Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[] Daddy's Little Girl – It's been a while since you last checked on your dad. It hurts to see him and know that he doesn't and probably never will recognize you, but you should probably stomach the hurt and go to his nursing home.
-[] Bring Cassiel and Laura. If the Simurgh can't rewire his brain, then it might be time to give it up, but that time is not yet.
[] Law and Order – The PRT has announced a press conference to show off their newest strategy to stop crime in your city. Are they planning to reveal magic to the world? Pop over and see what's up.

If the PRT is coming out with magic, then we want to be involved. Either way, maybe we can use this to start talks with the PRT and Protectorate about a joint anti-Fallen operation; going in alone sounds like a bad idea, and with anti-Master abilities/gear on the table, a joint op is more palatable. Plus, the Fallen getting their hands on magic sounds like the sort of thing that the Protectorate should pre-empt ASAP...

As for the other options, Final Frontier sounds fun, but we've got priorities. Bone of the Father would also be interesting if it really is Marquis, but Marquis knew how to run a gang in a civilized fashion. Again, not a priority.

As for Social options, I can't decide. My only vote is for Missy to stick to no cat features, at least for another year if not more. I can't help but feel that narratively, cat ears would be very much against Missy's objective to be taken seriously, and that unless someone can come up with a good, strategic reason for cat features that would outweigh Missy's objective, we shouldn't be voting based on how cute she'd look with them.

EDIT:
There is no difference in the activity between main and social type. I'm letting you do it either way to allow more flexibility.
Okay, in that case, I'm changing my vote. Put down Law and Order as a Social activity, and my new Second Main would be:
[ ] Burn the Sinners – The Fallen made a BIG mistake ruining your vacation. The Protectorate should have the most information on them out of anyone, and you need that info to make the Fallen wish they had never been born.

Extra points if we can get the Protectorate to team up on the basis of Contain Access To Magic.

While I think Final Frontier is important... I don't want Taylor to continue avoiding her problems forever. She needs a resolution with Danny. Sooner or later. Sooner the better.

As landcollector said, what resolution? Unless you have a new spell that is certified to help brain injuries (and are these the sort where the data is lost, not just inaccessible?) or some timey-wimey alternative, there IS no resolution because he won't change.

Its not avoiding her problem, the problem is done. The Danny that was her father is dead, past-Danny has his own life now and its one that needs a Nurse not a daughter involved in it.

What sort of resolution do you intend? I mean, ties were pretty much cut after our last less-than-stellar conversation with him.

I'm hoping that the questline will end with Danny being able to make new memories instead of the memory constantly resetting. I don't think @Silently Watches would offer the questline if it will do nothing but more angst or hurt for Taylor.

If Danny can make new memories then Taylor can either move on fully from Danny to allow him to make his own way or try to reconnect.

Why is it a good idea? Last time we tried talking to him, he refused to believe that we were his daughter. I imagine that hasn't changed, so it would just be pointless angst.
Silently wouldn't make it a questline if it was just a pointless angst. So, it will be a pointy angst.

Maybe somebody will actually try to kidnap Danny.
Maybe he'll suffer second trigger and run away by himself.
Maybe Taylor'll just go and ask her many magical contacts is it possible to help him somehow.

I agree though, it doesn't look like an appealing option.
Being Danny is truly suffering. :(

My plan:

[ ] Bone of the Father – You have heard whispers of several new gangs taking up residence in Philadelphia despite the PRT's and the established gang's best efforts. One may be interesting than the rest. Be available if you need to help out.
[ ] Burn the Sinners – The Fallen made a BIG mistake ruining your vacation. The Protectorate should have the most information on them out of anyone, and you need that info to make the Fallen wish they had never been born.

[ ] Participate in Law and Order as a social event instead of as a subquest event.
[ ] Hang out with the Adepts. Talk about stockpiling Maclibuin's charms for the Endbringer battles and/or selling them to the Protectorate.

If we don't do anything then obviously nothing is ever going to change. Is it possible for Danny to come back? Sort of, yes. Silently gave a 'that could work' response to him becoming able to make new memories a while back. Since, right now, every time he wakes up he thinks it's a day from years ago, and time doesn't progress for him. He can't process new information.

Writing him off just because we don't have an ironclad guarantee that something is possible is basically saying 'I don't want to try anything unless I already know it will work!' which is ridiculous. Daddy's Little Girl is the way to get Danny back, if there will ever be one. If we don't explore that path we'll never know.
It won't be a happy story arc, but it'll probably be one of the better ones anyway.

Oh right, we can talk to the Adepts and see if we can bring them into the fold.
True, we might be able to bring Maclibuin into the fold for Burn the Sinners... maybe Epoch too? He doesn't have the defence against Masters though, although Standstill, with her Anti-Master effect does provide a safety net there. Every mage helps.

It's a Harry Potter reference, not a reference to Marquis.

Oh great, now I'm even MORE paranoid about that option. Hopefully it's just someone who needs a hand!

I'm aboard for getting the adepts involved train. I've like what I've seen of them in this story. There's also a good success case for us in regards to our potential publicity re: flipping villains. If people know turning is an available workable option when the power dynamic starts to swing, they will be more willing to go along with it.

Keep in mind that you can pick TWO main quests…
  • Final Frontier – The Triumvirate Dynamic Duo is interested in what resources Earth Bet would have access to with convenient interdimensional transport. "Adventure of the week" format.
  • Bone of the Father – You have heard whispers of several new gangs taking up residence in Philadelphia despite the PRT's and the established gang's best efforts. One may be interesting than the rest. Be available if you need to help out.
  • Daddy's Little Girl – It's been a while since you last checked on your dad. It hurts to see him and know that he doesn't and probably never will recognize you, but you should probably stomach the hurt and go to his nursing home.
  • Burn the Sinners – The Fallen made a BIG mistake ruining your vacation. The Protectorate should have the most information on them out of anyone, and you need that info to make the Fallen wish they had never been born.
  • Law and Order – The PRT has announced a press conference to show off their newest strategy to stop crime in your city. Are they planning to reveal magic to the world? Pop over and see what's up.
…and TWO social activities.
  • Participate in Law and Order as a social event instead of as a subquest event.
  • Hang out with another character(s). This is by definition a non-combat activity.
  • Go on patrol. You can vote for one non-Samantha character to join you if you want.
  • Explore somewhere on Earth Bet. A location must be included. You may bring 1-3 other characters with you.
  • Explore another world. If you do not select a world where Taylor has been or already knows about, one will be selected randomly.
  • Train, either in the real world or in Perfect Storm's simulator. SPECIFY which spell or skill to work on.
  • Write-in (subject to my approval)
Let's have 24 HOURS to discuss.

My thoughts:

Daddy's Little Girl – It's been a while since you last checked on your dad. It hurts to see him and know that he doesn't and probably never will recognize you, but you should probably stomach the hurt and go to his nursing home.
---Bring a TSAB mage to check him over, see if they can heal Danny. This shouldn't be a violation of the TSAB rules of engagement, as it is an entirely humanitarian deed. Even if the TSAB can't help him, I would like to at least try. I don't care about bringing back Captain or whatever he went by, I just care about how this hurts Taylor and could really use some good news.

Burn the Sinners – The Fallen made a BIG mistake ruining your vacation. The Protectorate should have the most information on them out of anyone, and you need that info to make the Fallen wish they had never been born.
--There's no way this isn't going to make it to the top of the votes. As SW said, we have four weeks to the arc, and there're three "families" of Fallen, meaning if we want to take them out within this arc, we'll need to do it every week.

Participate in Law and Order as a social event instead of as a subquest event.
--With two regular actions set up already, as I at least want to do Daddy's Little Girl, I'm saying do this as a social event

Explore another world. If you do not select a world where Taylor has been or already knows about, one will be selected randomly.
--Bring Laura and Kayleigh to the world we visited with Missy. Show them a little bit more of the shinies we can give them if Laura comes over to the Dork side. See if they've erected any statues of us.

As for the others, Bone of the Father could mean getting us into more local action, so as long as we aren't actively going after Winter Hill, we could bring Laura with us to try to do the hero stuff she really wants to do. That makes this another option for those all important shinies. Tempt the ice-Fate!
Final Frontier: Eh, this one doesn't really appeal to me.

Buuuut, I don't think Marquis had any habit of targeting minorities, or reasons to focus on Knives. Whereas... we need to not forget that Theo triggered and escaped with Cricket while Victor held off the brutes, because those weren't pulled into the Recursion Field. The question being how Kaiser and Hookwolf's /shards/ were impacted by the dimensional shenanigans of Recursion, and whether they might've budded onto someone outside of it...

Theo is a Ward, the guy with the kind of white body lined with holes, who does something with sound. We never really investigated that cape, and don't know this in character, but I believe SW has confirmed that that is who that was.

I'm down for DLG and Law and Order with Burn the Sinners, but I still think we should do the Japan trip since SW mentioned that we can take care of the translation thing without everyone needing devices.

You're talking about the cape named Shard. I never confirmed if he was or wasn't Theo, but Shard IS NOT a Ward.

Will we be seeing a Chevalier and/or Miss Militia interlude reacting to Missy's resignation?

I... honestly don't care enough about Danny, to be honest. There is a lot of other stuff going on which I rate more urgent.

Bone of the father is probably a good idea to pursue before it escalates too far. If it's nothing, we don't have to pursue it further in the future. If it's something and we don't do this, the clean-up could be messy and take even more actions.
Burn the Sinners needs to happen, after the last arc. I'd thought people would be more enthusiastic about it, too... Burn them all the way! With the biggest spells that won't screw up the job due to goddamn thinkers!

Which means I'll want Law and Order as a social action. This event could be a game-changer in either direction so I'd rather be present for it.
For the second social... something Laura/Kayleigh/Missy. I'll see what pops up.

I prefer having the rest of our team at least trained a little bit before we Leroy Jenkins towards the fallen.
Law and Order as our main quest and Bone of the Father has my preference.

@Frozenpredator Yeah... about that...
Keep in mind there are three families of the Fallen, and there are normally only four weeks per sub quest arc. Add in a week of getting information...
We'll have a little time before the fighting itself, but if we want to actually finish this we have to start on it ASAP.

Are you sure you want both ears and tail? I can predict already that there will be three camps: people who don't want any cat features, people who will go for ears and tail, and people who would be okay with one but not both. I don't know the proportions for each, but that there will be these camps is more likely than not.
You may have noticed i tend to favour 'go big or go home' options. :p

That said, in this case my reasoning is thusly: I'm not actually a proponent of augmenting missy biologically. In my ideal world she'll eventually end up as a brain and linker core with abit of spine to connect them, mounted in a fully robotic shell. If it was up to me id find another character to go the route of biological augmentation, have them getting mutation after mutation in the pursuit of more and more power while missy continues to shed her flesh for the purity of metal for more power. Those two characters could make wonderful foils for each other and serve to display the merits of different paths to transhumanism. Putting all your eggs (or in this case your augs) in one basket is counter productive because youll eventually have to decide between keeping your improved biological bits or cutting off things that have already been improved in the pursuit of machine improvements, which is waste of both IC time and resources and OOC votes and narrative effort.

The linker core is perhaps the only exception, since there is no pure technological path for Missy to follow to attain magic of her own. And getting magic means risking mutation. Thats a path that was hard to avoid under the circumstances. So im sorta taking the best of a suboptimal situation to make her a catgirl so as to help divorce her further from baseline humanity. Sorta a consolation prize. The only reason im suggesting catgirl is because of the references to her having Calico patterning and the general fandom for catgirls improving the odds. If she had been, i dunno, covered in rottweiler spots, i would have suggested a dog girl, a snake for slitted eyes, etc. Whatever works. :3

If the vote doesnt go through i can simply revert to my original agenda of pushing full technomissy, though it might make for alot of funny scenes if it passes.

If we're preferring to build up the strength of others before going after the Fallen next arc, I'd suggest...

Main
Daddy's Little Girl
Bone of the Father
Social
Law and Order
Missy, Kayleigh, Laura trip-unknown world or Japan

Danny could offer an interesting solution, and possibly a new fighter if we mutate him later. See how it goes.

Bone could easily get mixed with the Winter Hill problem, and another Daddy issue. Plus we all live here. Solve the problems at home first this arc!
This could be the family and feels arc!

The PRT mages should really stand on their own power, but we are technically responsible for them, so social!

And this one is just duh.
Japan would be a neat little vacation, and an unknown world a fun adventure.
(Though it could also be an adepts, and Standstill thing instead actually, and get them more involved...)

Nope. We solve the Fallen question now before the Fallen build up the nerve to try another big attack. We also need to hunt down the Fallen's mage.

Also. First part of the Burn the Fallen questchain is basically talking to the Protectorate to get every bit of info they have on the Fallen as well as planning out our attacks. We should get that out of the way now.

We can train up Kayleigh and others while we are doing so. We should be getting Laura her device and hopefully get Standstill into our group as a Protectorate 'liason'.

I'm thinking 'daddy's little girl' and 'burn the sinners'. Visiting Dad, seeing the state he's in, knowing the fallen have done the same to other families and they WORSHIP the things that did this to Dad... that may be what we need to give us the resolve to really put them down.

Y'know, it occurred to me that thanks to the nature of Balam's power, the moment we start asking the Protectorate about the Fallen the chances they know about our plans and start getting ready to bushwack us skyrocket. This really isn't a vote against gearing up to stomp the Fallen, it's more of a generalized bitch about how Wildbow thinks omniscience is the perfect power to give antagonists.

Actually you have to look at Balam for her to be able to listen in whenever you speak her name. None of the Triumvirate have become her slaves.

And what we are asking for is every record they have on the Fallen including real names and faces of all of them the PRT and Protectorate has on record. After which we hit them in their homes and when they are asleep.

Preferably we eliminate the Mathers branch first.
