Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Hmm, since the vote is super close but seems to be falling onto Medium, could we get a compromise result? Missy at first going for Heavy but getting talked down to Medium because of the massive nature of the changes and other consequences brought by Heavy? The adults (Tim & Dragon) should really be trying to prevent the thirteen year old from turning herself into a combat cyborg.

Bit of an issue. Some are voting because of the transhumanist angle. Some are voting for more/average armor and super-strength. A compromise of having one and not the other would just upset both sides.

Hold up, we had three votes come in for Heavy Combat arm, but only two added to @Silently Watches tally.

For some reason @RavensDagger vote wasn't counted.

Yup, it got missed, the tally was favouring Heavy by one at the time of the tally.

The vote is as much about Missy's attitude as anything else. My suggestion would leave her more open to further upgrades in the future (though likely outside the scope of this quest) while also solving the moral/PR problems of turning a thirteen year old into a heavy weapons platform. Everyone involved in this is from a culture where the use of child soldiers is heavily frowned upon, as are most of the people we'll be interacting with.

Transhumanism is awesome and all, but kids shouldn't be encouraged to turn themselves into weapons.

Not actually, no. It's a hot;y debated issue, but not something set in stone.

We are dealing with a United States that decided to throw the Constitution out the window because of the Simurgh, after all.

I'm not going to go manually rechecking votes. I do recommend @RavensDagger revote to make sure the tally program counts it this time, but I will continue the extended voting time as I've already announced.

Well, I don't mind the Heavy Arm, but for the psychological reasons I'm sticking to Medium - though amusingly, after the description, I think the Heavy Arm would actually look better.

Any chance I can convince people to maintain the tie so the author picks? :3 SilentlyWatches has been pretty good to us with being willing to negotiate rule adjustments and such things, and a tied vote like this can often mean the player base isn't super opinionated (consider that its Medium vs Heavy , even if I know there were some tactical light voters, or that a lot of the Heavy voters want relatively medium/light mods with a heavy mindset so theres room for later ideas) , or that an author tiebreaker might be less contentious than a lucky-miniscule-plurality or whatnot.

Edit;

Oh, that came out all wrong. I'm gonna take a couple steps back for a while.

Sorry all.

It's the Heavy that won on numbers, but looks like it will lose on technical problems in the tally.

But I can't see @Silently Watches walking back the vote extension now, they've been shown the error/mistake. If no one had switched it might not have mattered, some people did and now the issue is properly muddy.

Does the corrected former count stand, do the vote switches count?

All kinds of messy and no easy solution.
Muddy? Really? That's what you're going with?

I extended the voting period. That's it. Nothing's been decided. No one's vote has been dismissed. The only person who is even inconvenienced by all this is ME because I can't finish the chapter yet.

I was highly tempted to be bitchy to you, but on second thought I won't. Just know that I see your "complaints" and don't give them much weight.

alright
[X] Medium combat arm– Armor plating is limited to the hand and forearm as well as over the shoulder. Enhanced strength and mechashift weapons are available in the hand only. Energy weapons can be wherever. Build time will include ONE TIME SLOT for surgery.

Could you explain why you want to drastically alter Vista's characterization, since she's not shown indications of sharing your zeal for transhumanism prior to this vote?

Could you explain why you're implying the vote is meaningless because the answer is clearly pre-decided and we're interfering?

Relatedly, not knowing very much about tinkertech myself..... when might we have possibly seen any opinion she had on the matter? Are there tinkers offering cosmetic bodymod shops out there? Have we hung out with her casually in the sort of way that we'd see her watching stuff like Ghost in the Shell or playing Deus Ex or otherwise had the topic come up at all?

Further, weren't there already talks and hints of an interest when she first learned about getting a replacement arm?

She's not shown any indications of not sharing our zeal for transhumanism prior to this vote. That's the whole point of this friggin' vote, to determine the extent of her zeal for transhumanism,

Sure!

Its not altering her characterization as i see it.

Vista is basically a child soldier. Shes been fighting for years, i think by this point longer than some tours of service. But the organization she works for, while putting her in that situation, also insists on treating her like a normal child. The disconnect causes her issues in canon, and here. She yearns for respect, to be recognized for her accomplishments, skill and experience. Thats canon, and its true here.

The fact of the matter is that Vista sees her age as the problem. If she could flip a switch and be 18 shed do it in a heartbeat, without a second thought, even though doing so would objectively cost her like five years of her life. Thats a not insignificant loss of time. But its a price Vista would pay gladly for the respect she feels her due. But alas, no such switch exists, Vista has no way to climb that ladder except by waiting to actually turn 18.

But now she has a new option. Now she can make herself better. She can do it now.

Because ultimately? Age is a function of her body, of her flesh. And now she has a option to replace it with something better. Stronger. Others may disagree, but she will draw strength from that rejection for it no different than how t they treat her already. She can embrace potential, become more than she is, more than her body allows her to be.

So what it boils down to is the fact that Vista never showed any interest before because she as never cognizant of it being a option before, and now that shes twigged into the possibility, it provides a ready solution to all her issues (or atleased, what she sees as her issues), while making her a better hero.

(As a aside, this path also brings her closer to Taylor and through her the TSAB. Who will literally give her everything shes ever wanted. Respect, recognition. They wont treat her like a little girl, but the veteran she is. I wouldnt be surprised if she tries to jump ship the first time she runs into a girl her age as a squad leader or something.)

There's a marked difference, imo, between a passing interest and ChaoticSky's desired "screw Humanity, make me a machine.".

Edit:

Pretty much, I do not agree with Sky's above explanation and reject it.
