Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Well, IIRC Siberia is where the USSR did quite a bit of their nuclear testing during the Cold War. Just like we did in the deserts of the West/Southwest.
What I read said it was because that's where the Russians stored all/most of their nuclear waste, with severely under-spec containment (there are no lids on the containers as an example). Several leaks and accidents over the years have irradiated the ground and water in the area, putting it as the 5th most radioactive location in the world.

That [graphic] tag on the link isn't for show, pictures of radiation-based mutations from animals and humans, you have been warned.

EDIT: And now I really wish you guys had sent Samantha with Danny, because then I could have another roll to work with and NOT kill Danny when the last meaningful thing he said to Taylor was an accusation of her really not being his daughter.
So...basically typical Worm Endbringer event.

Herokiller after all.
Friendly reminder to all that this situation is painfully common for Behemoth fights. 25% casualties is a good day against Leviathan. This is not a good day.

Given those rolls I think he managed to hit the nuclear plant and THAT would have a truly ruinous outcome on everyone anywhere near the scene.

All RL nuclear plants of Ukraine are situated pretty far from Kharkiv.

On the other hand, Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology was one of the main Soviet nuclear physics research facilities, and a storage for Ukraine's enriched uranium reserves.
And, of course, there could be some Tinker with nuclear specialization living there.

Considering Behemoth is known to be able to irradiate completely ordinary dirt to permanently deadly levels of radation...I'm not sure he even needs the help

Or if TSAB was present they might have screwed up for more DRAMA!

Hell if you want to go super dark conspiracy you could have one of them kill him for trying to out them to the world prematurely.

Now I think that's probably darker than we really want or you're likely to go, but it could happen. Or one could simply have shown that elemental magic vs energy manipulator was a bad choice?

Who wants to bet Behemoth grabbed those reserves and triggered a nuclear explosion with them? Even with his holding back all it would take is physically scooping up the reserves in one of his hands, crushing them tightly, and bombarding them with high intensity neutron radiation. That would trigger a nuclear explosion which he can either let happen normally or direct in some horrible way.

A long, long minute passes as you try not to admit your answer to yourself, but you know you need to make your decision. All prevaricating will do is waste time, time you don't have.

It isn't heroic, it isn't brave, but the fact remains that there is nothing special you can offer in this Endbringer fight. Search and rescue? They have other capes who can do that just as well as you can. Healing? You don't have a spell for that. Direct attack? A shiver runs down your spine. The last thing anyone needs is for Behemoth to gobble up Solar Wrath, or God forbid Ragnarök, and throw it back at the assembled capes.

If this were Leviathan attacking, or if you didn't have another pressing matter like the Dragonslayers, you wouldn't need to make such a selfish decision. But it isn't and you do. Besides, you tell yourself, this is the best chance to get Saint's grubby hands out of Dragon's code. Let her do what she needs to do without outside interference, and you staying back from this fight will wind up being a net positive. Right?

…Assuming Saint shows up at all, you intentionally do not think about.

Choice made, you open your connection to your Guardian Beast. «Sam? Don't wait up for me. I'm not going.»

«What?» You can almost see her confused face. «Why not?»

«This is the best time for the Dragonslayers to go after the radio. If I'm not here to spring the trap, they'll realize I played them, and they'll never fall for this again. This is our one shot to pin those bastards to the wall.»

«Okay. Give me a minute to let Danny and Miss Militia know, and I'll meet you there.»

You blink in surprise. What? «You don't need to come. You would do more good at the fight—»

«No more than you, and probably less. My specialty is hand-to-hand combat, remember? We may be fireproof, but if he gets lucky with a lightning bolt, I'm just as cooked as everybody else. You'd at least have a little more room to dodge.» You sigh; that is a fair point. «Not to mention, the last time we went up against the Dragonslayers didn't go too well for us. I want my pound of flesh from that mage, too.»

«Somebody has to go—»

«Taylor.» Your protest cuts off at the hard, flat tone of Samantha's voice. «You sent me away when we fought them last time. I didn't like it, but it made sense. Somebody needed to get Tim and the stuff we picked up to shore, otherwise all our work was for naught. But now you're talking about going after them alone, without backup. Without me.

«I'm a Guardian Beast. Literally the entire reason for my existence is to keep you safe. Are you really going to torture me by telling me to stay away while you leap into danger?»

No matter how much your mouth moves, no words can make it past the lump in your throat. «Is… Is that what I've been doing to you all this time when I ask you to give me some space?» you finally ask.

«Much as I would like to be behind you everywhere you go, no, it normally isn't that big a deal,» she replies. «When you go to school or something like that, I know you're not in danger, and I don't feel the need to follow you. But this? This is something else entirely.»

How can you say no to an argument like that? «Okay. I'll see you at the warehouse, then.» Samantha cuts off the call with a satisfied-sounding huff, and you take a second to get your mental equilibrium back. Only then do you command Perfect Storm to deploy your Barrier Jacket and teleport you to your destination.

This part of Philadelphia has mostly been abandoned over the years, which makes it the perfect place to set up a trap for a certain criminal group. This warehouse is no different from any of its neighbors, the tattered red flag fluttering from the roof its only distinguishing feature. You left a back window open the last time you were here, and now you slip inside and let your eyes and mask adjust to the gloom. You still aren't sure what this place was used for originally, but whoever owned it before left a ton of wooden pallets and oily drop cloths everywhere. Lots of useless clutter means lots of places for the Dragonslayers to poke around. It should take them a good ten minutes to realize there is no radio here.

Rattling on the steel siding alerts you to a raccoon making her way up the outside wall and then through the window. "Nice place," she says with a laugh once she is back in human form. "Needs a woman's touch, though. Think we could make it a family project?"

"Ha, ha. You're hilarious," you reply in a monotone.

"I try." She floats over and flicks her tail at you. "What's the plan? This place has just enough room to give us maneuverability while still being small enough to hinder them. I wouldn't recommend hanging around in one place, though, not if all of them have tasers like that mage does." Samantha shudders. "Better to use hit-and-run tactics if you want to go with that plan."

You had not considered that, and you look at the few weight-bearing pillars in the middle. Between those and the general disorder, you should have enough cover for you to use Flare Blade. Particularly if you don't care about casualties and let the mana blade slice through muscle and bone with all the ease you know it can have, a traitorous voice whispers in the back of your head.

Shoving the niggling thought away, you point at the upper walkway. "I was thinking I could stay up there, out of sight. The great thing about homing bullets is that I don't have to have line of sight. Fly the bullets low to get them in position, and the Dragonslayers won't know where I really am."

«Query,» chimes in Perfect Storm. «Why does Mistress not bombard enemies?»

"What?"

«No need to be inside target area. Enemies enter area, then Mistress uses artillery attacks with targets still unaware of presence. Enemies subdued before capable of counterattacking, and range advantage still in Mistress's favor should one remain mobile.»

You shake your head. "Do my powers even work like that?"

«Mistress has great talent,» Perfect Storm interjects, «but only glossed over full capabilities. Calamity Witch template given many abilities. All chosen to aid in corralling one's enemies and thereby overwhelm them with sustained fire. Primary offensive spells designed to be capable of long-range engagement when necessary.»

"So I totally could do that. Good to know." Glancing around the space again, you tap your fingertips against your thigh. How best to make sure the Dragonslayers cannot escape your judgement?

You have a few minutes to set everything up before the Dragonslayers show up, so that justifies a 24 HOUR moratorium.
  • Honor duel – Wait for the Dragonslayers in plain sight so they realize what they walked into.
  • Sneaky ninja – Stay in the shadows and pick off the Dragonslayers one by one.
  • Hammer of God – The Dragonslayers will know what happened, they just won't be able to do anything about it.
You CAN give me battle plans if you want, but if fewer than half of the votes for the winning strategy have plans, I DO have plans of my own. One of them is fantastic, one okay, and one meh. (Note: those descriptions aren't necessarily in order.)

And as a general reminder, all non-Ragnarök spells are nonlethal unless you vote otherwise…

Let's just play to our strengths here guys. They probably have thermal sensors in their suits, we aren't going to be able to sneak up on them.

We are a bombardment mage, this is literally what we do.

And to be honest, I am pretty tempted to just say 'Fire Lethal' and get this shit over with. Make sure this is over and done with.[/B]

Agreed. Hammer of God seems like the most likely to succeed with the fewest complications.

1. Well, dragging the mage into a separate dimension would make Hammer of God much less likley to be blocked by a shield.
2. A simultaneous hacking blitz by Storm is an option. They do have Dragon-code security, but Storm's made tinkertech security his bitch in the past. We could shut the Dragonslayers down without needing a fight. Even if they're not out of the fight, if it diminishes their capabilities, it's done its job.
3. We need to specify Samantha uses melee weapons for minimal chance of shockage.
4. Cartridges. Always more Cartridges.
EDIT: Just to double check. @Silently Watches, we cannot selectively include and exclude folks in a Recursion Field Spell, correct?

Hammer of God, immediatly followed by a time slow field to reduce possible counters, and then improvise with lots and LOTS of firepower. I don't think they have tp yet.

Recursve field only effects people with supernatural power, Only their mage would be taken. Saint and his other friendo would be left there,

We should switch to lethal mode for the fight, rather than limiting the effectiveness of our spells.

They are attacking during an endbringer attack, so there isn't likely to be any backup coming if they get the better of us. We need to deal with them quickly.

Not that I don't appreciate a prompt response, I should be the last person to complain about that, but I did ask the QM for a reason. Thank for being on the ball though.

Ahhh orbital bombardment I like the sound of it sooooo much.

I'm actually going to have to suggest we don't kill Saint... right away. We need him to find his base, find Ascalon, get access to his systems, all that jazz. Once we get all that though? We can do whatever we want to him.

I would say Hand of God with lethal rust shooter and maybe lethal flare shooter. Not sure if we should use Solar Wrath or Flare Blade at lethal. Non-lethal Flare Blade is enough to cut almost any non-organic stuff after all.
