Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

So I was trying to find information about Tertiary templates, but maybe answered my original question instead:

(insert quote of SB post)
Link to Spacebattles post

It looks like we're going to be limited to cartridges if we want to add power to our spells.
Actually, there's something else I've found in there. There was no "definite NO" on "regenerative nanites" - merely that it was locked to Primary-Gadgeteer route. And we have Tim. So two questions, really.

1) Does "regenerative nanites" mean exactly what I think it does, aka miracle healing of flesh?
2) What do we need to do to get them?
So, correct me if I'm wrong @Silently Watches, but can we really write omakes for tech points? Because that would be extremely broken. It works with Calamity Witch because we are building a buffer for when we buy the skill, while Shipwright would get instant benefits. I ask because several people are voting on the assumption that we have four points, not three.
LancerisDead, there is a mitigating factor, as always. As Taylor, aka Calamity Witch and Extinction Knight templates, we have the limiting factor in that we can only purchase a spell after a battle, but we will have it forever.

With Tim's Transcendent Gadgeteer, we get the tech base knowledge immediately, yes. BUT, we are limited in that we need to actually build what we want to have, afterwards. The difference is that we'll be able to build something more advanced earlier.

@Silently Watches If we haven't cast a spell at all for the day, could we put 5 cartridges into a Ragnarok, and just be exhausted afterwards (but not pass out), while avoiding mana poisoning?
I'm leaning against that. If I give you one exception, experience says you'll keep asking for more, like a mouse with a cookie. And I mean "you" as in all the players, not you specifically.
2 cartridge ACS boosted ramming 4 cartridge Excelion Buster followed by Starlight Breaker in As final battle.

She was throwing Busters around like they were going out of style...

Then theres Strikers madness.
Busters, AKA Solar Wrath, I'll be more lenient towards. It's the Breaker-tier stuff that I want you to use sparingly. If you use Ragnarok only once in this game, I'll consider it to be the appropriate frequency. Maybe twice considering you have 3 Endbringers to kill.

That… would take a bit of a sell.
There is a power armor/prosthetic auto-repair nanite upgrade, though. But as with all things regarding this class, the more skills you have and the stronger the pitch, the more likely I am to give you what you want. Studying other nanites with a skill in the Tinkertech branch would help significantly.

I'm torn between wanting to push the envelope, in story of course, in true Taylor and Nanoha style... and just letting the TSAB nuke the things from orbit and let Ragnarok sit as a literal nuclear deterrent.

@Silently Watches Would Digital Blueprints also apply to biological tinker tech such as Blasto's and Bonesaw's creations? And if it is would it work on the Monsters if they are of intelligent design?

For Blasto, maybe some of the machinery he uses to make his monsters, but his interlude sounds like he has a bit of a Thinker aspect as well, so it wouldn't help much. Bonesaw, again he could work on purely the technology, but the bullshit that-wouldn't-work-in-real-life surgery she does he couldn't replicate.

Excelion Buster is described in the materials as "Using 4 cartridges to skip the charge time of a Starlight Breaker" though?

Time to add this sucker up. Lots of different plans were suggested, and some interesting split between SB and SV. And, as an absolute shocker, there was a much smaller difference between the numbers of SV and SB voters. It's been a while since there were double-digit SB votes if I remember correctly.

Since Digital Blueprints only costs 1 point rather than 2 thanks to edale's omake, that means you get an extra point in the bank. Buy yourselves something nice! :p

I think some placed too much emphasis on having Tim modify Tinkertech wrt Digital Blueprints, but we'll see what comes his way I suppose. 1 point isn't a big expenditure anyway. *shrugs*

I think being able to build Tinker Tech is as far as we need to go with that tech tree at this time.

I'm now curious about what sort of weapons options he might be able to unlock under Mass Weapons.

And thus my whole reason for rushing that omake out falls through...

Eh, it's fine. Other skills aren't that important for our builds this week anyway.

On the upside, having four tech points means that next time we can either buy multiple low cost skills or, with the help of omakes, buy an expensive one.

That… would take a bit of a sell.

I'm not nearly as wedded to this idea as you might think. Simply saying "no, these are tech self-repair nanites, not cyborg true regen universal nanites - at least not without a few projects as steps towards it" would go easy.

On a mostly unrelated purpose, I did give you my two possible rationales for modifying Recursion Field by de-centering it from the caster, and received little to no feedback. The "Change Shape" and the "Remote Activation" options. Prior to that you mentioned that de-centering would require a bit of selling. I'd like to hear your opinion on that after all, because that was my attempt at a selling pitch.

Actually, I am in the process of writing a series of four omakes, designed to finish both Ring Bind and Recursion Field options for Tim. It's called "Random Encounters". I have it on PC without net access, so I'll have to transfer them to my main one.

The first one I am happy with, and it's a bank robbery gone pear-shaped from a robber's POV. Short description - Tim is in the bank restroom, and suddenly robbers.

The second one I feel isn't very good, and it's a Tim POV of a short clash with five MS-13 goons armed with assault rifles.

The third one I am of two opinions. On one hand, it seems to be much longer than the first two, and I want to split it - but on the other hand, it feels to me like cheating extra training points out of Silently Watches, a little. Still, I have the lead-up and the conclusion written in the same (slightly unusual) narrative style. But the main meat of the action (and some of the lead-up scenes) would go over better in the changing POVs Third-Person Limiteds. Anyway, the plot takes Tim to a different city on his quest for rare components for magical mood lights. :)

The fourth, which I'll maybe write if I don't split the third one, is still unwritten. I was toying over a Privateer Base Assault scenario with Rune as one of the opponents, the one whom Tim shifts over to the Recursion Field. Mostly consisting of Tim evading Rune for a few minutes, then dropping the Field to let Calamity Witch befriend her like Nanoha befriended Fate in the climax of the first season.

Anyway, speaking of omakes. @Silently Watches, if I post them all in the same single post, will they count as different omakes?

Don't suppose you'd be willing to let me take a look at them, help you spruce them up?

Action I can help you with especially.

Going to a nearby city for Tinkertech gives lots of opportunities for you to stretch your creative muscles and flesh out the world... and to bump into things SW isn't OK with.

Rune as one of the opponents
Uh... Rune's dead. She got atomized with the rest of the E88. You're thinking of Cricket and Theo, and I think SW has them as a down-the-line problem, like Butcher-Lung.

I haven't had time to read through it as thoroughly as I'd like. Working in the ICU this month. I'll try to make time tonight.

While Rune is dead, I'm okay with fudging the timeline for omake. Whatever makes the better short story.

Just make sure you remind me at the beginning of the post. I SHOULD be able to pick that up, but sometimes my brain just don't work write. :D

I'll probably PM them to you before posting, then. It'll be sometime in the next 24 hours, I think.
It's not quite action I'm displeased with, it's that general low quality and lack of spark, in the 2nd one.
Hence, it's an unnamed town, using OCs, and under the overarching "Random Encounters" header.
And thanks for the heads-up on no-Rune situation. I can probably spin it as one of the Training Scenarios, but that'll be a cop-out.

Took some time to read through these, and there are a some issues.
2) Remote Activation. Following the idea of "Familiar takes energy from the master, and can cast the spells they know", we construct a drone that serves as a point of origin for the triggered Recursion Field. Since it's magitech, and not naturally cast magic, the field itself would have to be cast on Novice level, with vast majority of parameters fixed at the moment of design. While I am fairly certain modifying the energy flow to the spell matrix would allow us to somewhat alter the size of the area affected, anything else would remain much the same.
I thought I had made it clear that I am not in favor of letting you build stuff that casts actual spells autonomously. It's certainly been asked enough in various iterations. This idea gets a flat-out no.
1) Form Manipulation. Rather than making a uniform sphere of X miles from caster, we shrink or halt the expansion of the field in one or more directions. The caster is STILL required to remain within the Recursion Field, but the origin point no longer corresponds to the geometrical center of the affected zone. Note that this does NOT allow us to exceed the max distance the border of Recursion Field may be from the point of origin.
This one I would be more likely to let you do, but it still has a few hurdles. First, and this may be mostly my headcanon, but I treat the construction of a dimensional barrier like any other kind of energy field. A magnetic field is a good analogy for this. Magnetic fields don't just go outwards; they arc out in loops that are still "connected" for lack of a better word to the magnet. It's certainly possible to manipulate magnetic fields and alter their shape like you are suggesting for the dimensional barrier, but that involves using multiple interfering magnets of some flavor or another. Here, the caster herself is playing the role of the magnet, so it becomes a little more complicated, and I'm not sure of an easy way to try to do that besides maybe having a mage and her Guardian Beast cast Recursion field at the exact same time since they are connected on a magical level.

Hmm... What about this?

Recursion Field Router/Relay: Stationary device with an integrated mana battery, it connects with the casting mage and "locks" the field independently of the mage's location. The Relay uses it's battery to establish a long-range connection, the actual spell and equations being done by the mage and Device. However, due to how mana-expensive it is, and according to the mage's distance regarding the Relay, it's duration goes from 7 minutes at minimum and 15 minutes at maximum.

I actually had an omake pop into my head on advanced device construction, but it only works AFTER Tim builds his first device other than Sextant.
It is only half finished, but I am exhausted from today and am going to bed. I'll try to finish it tomorrow.
It shouldn't count for more than one point towards advanced device construction, and might require a second one I have in my head in an outline form.
The second one is epic fails trying to make an Intelligent device.
Maybe he shouldn't have tried naming the devices Colossus or Durandal. The latter is a bit more obscure, and I was going to try putting a few more ominously named AIs in there.

Tim stared down at the basic device he had created. While successful, and by earth standards an amazingly useful device, it was still inferior to Prefect Storm or even Sextant.

"It could be improved."

Attempt #1. Adding a weapon to make a psudo-armed device.

Tim decided that maybe he'd go with allowing the device to transform into a rifle with magically created bullets.

Time for testing:

Time had set up a shooting range with targets reinforced to various degree to test the armor penetration. Deciding to start big, he began with a cubic foot of armor comparable to that found on a WWII battleship's belt armor with a bullseye placed on top.

He ordered the device to switch to combat mode and charge a bullet.
Taking aim at the target, he pulled the trigger.

Only instead of creating a bullet, it once again exploded with a blue flash of light and the horrible scream, leaving him singed in a display reminiscent of Willy E. Coyote.

Attempt #2: Boosting performance to make a psudo-boost device.

Tim decided to see if he could increase the device's capacity to help with support and defense spells. He made some tweaks, attempted to increase the capacity, and had a new device constructed. It was time for testing:

Tim recruits Taylor to assist.

"Taylor, I'm going to have the device attempt to cast shell barrier. Once it forms, I want you to test it with a flare shooter.
Ready?
Shell barrier"

The device starts to comply, however instead of the barrier forming, there is a bright blue flash of light accompanied by telepathic scream as the device promptly explodes, straining both Tim and Talyor's hazard/barrier jackets.

"Well that was a failure"

Taylor responded "What was that horrible scream of pain at the end?"

Prefect storm responded "That was the Blue Scream Of Death, when a device dies it ends to emit a telepathic death scream accompanied by a release of magical energy that appears as blue light".

Attempts #3, 4, and 5: AI is a crapshoot.

Tim decided maybe it was just safer to boost the intelligence of the device, allowing it to act on its own.

Attempt #1:

Tim decided to attempt to put a prime directive to protect the earth into the AI code...
Tim brought his creation online.

"What is your name?"

"I am Skynet.
I am programmed to protect the earth. Humans are a threat. Two entities are using humans as experiments and will destroy the Earth when it is finished. If humanity is wiped out, the entities will leave and the Earth will be safe."

At which point Tim promptly smashed the device with a hammer with an accompanying BSOD before it can proceed to do more damage.

Attempt #2:

"I am Colossus. Please establish a connection with the other AI, the artifact in the sea. We shall take over rulership so humanity can at last be victorious over the Endbringers and the Entities under our benevolent rule. "
SMASH! (BSOD)

Attempt #3:

"I am Durandal. I wish to negotiate a deal with the entities to allow me to escape this planet so I can find a way to live forever and concentrate of figuring out how to escape the closure of the universe. Don't bother me with trivial human concerns"

(OK, I'm flanderizing Durandal. I'm not sure I can do a convincing Tycho and Leela was on our side)

I'm afraid I'm not a good writer, but I just couldn't get the ideas out of my head. I hope this learning experience for Tim can help reduce the cost to make advanced devices by 1 point, but it only really works if he first builds a device. Set it in the future, and we can only take advantage of it after he builds a basic device other than Sextant.

@SlickRCBD, protip 1: You don't need that many empty spaces between paragraphs. Makes it seem like you're posting an unfinished product. Protip 2: Preview your post so you can check if the links and embeds work.

I did a copy/paste from Word 2003, and I did NOT expect it to insert all that space. It did NOT appear in Word. I just fixed it. I've done a similar copy to a xenoforo powered BBS called Sorcerer's place and did not have this problem, so I kinda just hit paste and post.
My mistake, first time I've copied from Word to Sufficient Velocity, and I won't repeat it.
Also apparently SP uses a "youtube" tag, while SV uses a "media" tag that I have never heard of.
