Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

I honestly think that Danny and Samantha should go, and in the mean-time, we scan some members of the Privateers for Linker Cores. I want to scan Alexander and Kurt. Whether we decide to convert them later is another issue, but we should at least take a look.

I think it would be more useful to scan the entire Privateers, if @Silently Watches will let us. That way, we can start thinking about Device and mage development beyond the initial gadgeteer, and potential synchronization.

I'll allow it. There are about 15 Privateers who came with you to Philly, IIRC, so with a 5% chance to have a Linker Core…

Oh. Well, you've got a decent chance of having one, I guess? It'll depend on how much the dice like you.

But that is 15 using conventional weaponry. Once we have the gadgeteer, they will be armed with lasers.

How much maintenance does the magic gadgeteer weapons require? Since it doesn't really fall under tinker-tech.

Only fifteen?! No wonder they've been getting their assed kicked, that's just a small platoon.
Well, it was twenty-five to thirty in Brockton Bay, and as of 4.2, about half followed you and Danny to Philadelphia. That would be fifteen at most. They're trying to recruit, but Philly is in nowhere near the dire straights BB was. Not to mention, Tim, Margaret, and Danny stay at headquarters, so they only field a max of twelve.

That doesn't mean they're all that small. Twelve is a decently sized squad by WW2 standards, and that's twelve men who can all see and hear what everyone else in the group sees and hears and have the kind of coordination you'd expect from one man being in twelve bodies. But yes, they aren't large enough to rival the full forces of any of the city's gangs except maybe Fairyland, hence that group being their current target.

I'll talk a little OOC for a minute. Since most of the members are basically just there as numbers in the roster, the first Linker Core that pops up is going to go to Tim. If you get two, it'll go to Lacey, who is more an ancillary member and isn't in that fifteen I mentioned. No point in generating a bunch of names for the men when all I'm going to do is role 15 dice. Should you somehow wind up with three or more, I'll figure out who I'm going to give them to later, but I don't think it'll happen.

... geez, things are smaller scale than I thought.
Daily reminder that Taylor researched the ABB in early canon and found that they consisted of about 50 non-powered thugs.

Not capes, not high ranked individuals. The entire ABB, minus Lung and Oni Lee and later Bakuda. And this was believable.

Scale is whack.

What are you going to do?
  • Join the fight – Miss Militia was very clear that the Protectorate needs help. You didn't agree with how the PRT handled the screening process, but there's a time and place to make an issue of that. This is neither.
  • Stay behind – The Beasts are still out there. If Miss Militia and the rest of the Philadelphia Protectorate are in Brockton Bay, that means nobody is sticking around to protect the city's citizens. You'll do more good filling in for them while they're gone.
I don't think Taylor actually AGREES with keeping the villains in and letting the heroes out. Sure they're Simurghbombs, but keeping them in there is also accounted for in her plan. Pass on outright subduing them, but Taylor can be of use if she's there to contain the damage, she does have the Recursion Field to just yank a chunk of dudes out.
And Samantha?
  • Lend her skills – Samantha is a Guardian Beast, someone literally designed for combat. If the heroes are in such dire straights that they are letting villains go after mistreated villains, they need her there.
  • Protect the homestead – Defending others is right there in her title. Convince her to stay here and flex her magical muscle so the Protectorate doesn't come back to find their home yet another disaster zone.
Samantha meanwhile should stay at home to make sure nobody hits the Privateers while they're wounded.
Don't forget about Danny and the Privateers.
  • Bulk up the forces – Didn't you just say the Privateers are probably as good as the PRT? They need to go and lend their aid. If nothing else, their teamwork will put to shame any other group volunteering.
  • The boss's problem – All the Privateers are injured except for Danny, but his powers don't truly require having his crew around. He can still go by himself and coordinate some of the heroes just like he did during the Simurgh fight.
  • On medical leave – With his team down for the count, Danny won't be able to protect himself should everything go to hell. He needs to stay here. Keeping an eye on the city is the most the Privateers should be doing until they've recovered.
Good way to build rep for Danny maybe? He can't coordinate us however, so holding the fort may be more valuable.

Kind of thinking the same here.

Route Make A Decent Showing:
-Taylor goes
--Taylor sets out to minimize damage and separate out a big chunk of the escapees into her own dimension.
-Samantha stays
-Danny goes
--He links up with the PRT teams for damage control

Route I Don't Agree with the PRT:
-Everyone stays
-Taylor runs scans for all the Privateers

Fun thing: this chapter made me think and this thinking improved my opinion about PRT and Protectorate.

It's simple to accuse them in inefficiency and neglecting their duty, when all you can see is Brockton Bay on the verge of gang war.
Half of city is almost officially ruled by gangs, because PRT let them.
In the end, Alexandria could easily wipe them all out in one week, right? But she did not, obviously because she is [CENSORED] [CENSORED].

Now, look at last ark.
Monsters running around, normal gangsters doing their thing, Fallen besieging Brockton Bay, Privateers settling in their new home, alien ship lying somewhere in the ocean floor.
So many pretty important things to do, so little time.
Taylor was forced to prioritize and do what she think the most important/urgent. She could only hope that all other things will not become much worse because she ignored them.
As a result she made a contact with aliens, convinced Dragon that she's not completely delusional, saved bunch of teenagers and found some information about Monsters...
...meanwhile Vista lost her arm, Privateers were defeated and wounded, Brockton situation exploded.

And that's only two cities from hundreds!
Imagine how many questlines Alexandria has!
I imagine, that players of Alexandria Quest pretty tired of situations when everything on fire and constantly getting worse.

About current situation:
I think Taylor should go. Her teleportation, scrying, temporal and Recursion fields are just too useful in this situation.
Not sure about others.
Sam would be useful, but someone probably should stay in case of Monsters.
Privateers are wounded, but they are all Brocktonites, they know the area and local villains.

And they know that the primary life-thread of human civilization, Cauldron, is gone. It's only downhill from here.

Vote 5.1

Taylor and the Privateers hold down the fort in Philly, Samantha and Danny go put down Purity like a mad dog help with containment and are able to teleport back here if we need them.

We have things to focus on in Philly. And Sam will make sure that Danny's safe since she wants his Dbecause he's just as important to her as he is to Taylor, so hopefully we shouldn't have many problems on that end.

And it'll be a good thing if we can be finished with the Monster Mash situation before they get back.

I do want to put through the idea, in case it hasn't, that if we go back to Brockton, we might be able to recruit Purity. Might.

She's a potential Ziz-bomb, in the eyes of everyone from the villains to the US government. That'd like sticking your hand in a live blender. You can do that, but you know what's going to happen if you do.

I think this strikes the best balance in regards to effectiveness and personal safety. Brockton Bay spells massive trouble, the homefront is just potential trouble. Best leave the injured people to monitor the latter.

Also, unwatched on SB, watched on SV. Because all the cool people do it.
