Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

A descent assessment, and I think a fair alternative to my own vote. I didn't really go into assessing "Who's on First" for the enemy team, because our only real intel tells us where one person Might be, and even that's uncertain.

Mechanically I think the only thing really switched around are your allocations for Laura & Sam, and Sarah & Cat Sith. The teams are otherwise identical, even in their general capabilities. I guess sending Sam to a different battle would make sense for the rapid redeployment option, but I'm not sure calling Thirteenth Hour the "Least Experienced" is entirely fair to her. Yes, she has new abilities now, but she's also technically the most experienced person on the team next to Missy when it comes to fighting other Capes, and that experience could be a boon at the construction outlet. I'll also admit that some of my choices were weighted by the desire to socialize her more with other members of Arcana besides Taylor, and despite Laura warming up to her a bit due to shared villain pasts in this chapter, Kayleigh is still the most amiable to her overall. I think the question would be, do you want to better socialize Sarah with the other members of the team and trust Silently Watching not to totally screw us over on who is where, or do you rather not sacrifice rapid-redeployment capability for team bonding.

I had already decided which violations were where before I posted the chapter. You don't have to fret about me intentionally screwing you over. Just unintentionally screwing you over. :D
Doesn't mean that we don't know where they are and can't totally botch our own deployment options to put someone against someone they can't handle as easily as someone else could have in their place. :V

We can guess "Who's On First" all we want, but the only person we even have a vague idea of where they are is Flimmern, and not even that's certain. My plan and @kamkong's are functionally similar enough in the offensive capabilities for me to not think one or the other would matter too much, and I'm confident each team for either deployment can handle whoever they do go up against, which I think is nice, because then that makes the choice between character building opportunities or possibility of mechanical faster redeployment support.

"What company are we talking about? That will likely affect our opinion," you tell her.

The fairy Tinker rolls one shoulder in a negligent shrug. "Oh, just a little Canadian company called Dragontech."
...
Dragon shakes her head with a fond expression. "I doubt I would ask to you do much, honestly. I will say that I suspect if it becomes public knowledge that you are my personal team, as it would should you join Tim and me at the press conference, we might receive requests of a more paramilitary nature, or other corporations might ask for assistance or backup for their own teams. Those we would need to talk about, but I promise you that I would not force you to accept any of those offers." She gives you all a soft smile. "This really is far less that I need a corporate team and more that I'd like to offer help where I can."
Becoming a Corpo team, eh? It's a generous and thoughtful offer she's proposing. That said, I reserve the right to call for strategic Ragnarok use if names like Arasaka or Militech start popping up. :V

As for dealing with our current roster of targets, hm. Both kamkong's and Almech's analyses lay out good points. I'm wondering if team bonding w/ Sarah can be delayed juuust a little bit longer for an op that doesn't involve dealing with superpowered Nazis though...

For now, leaning towards kamkong's deployment setup:

I did say, "Least experienced mage" which is true. She's used Guardian Beast, a one-shot spell that only affects another being, and her telepathy variant where she makes a loud mental noise to throw off a master effect. Quite different from "I have an electric sword that I can stab through someone's chest and they won't die." Considering her old role in the protectorate was "Locate Big Bad, then fall gently to sleep in a teammate's arms", there could be some growing pains.
Pairing her with Taylor just kind of worked best for me in my head. Sarah's spells are all ones Taylor possesses (weapon magic, strong shield, ring bind) but the Electrical immunity just works in the most likely area to encounter Flimmern. Taylor's other abilities are useful and powerful to stand apart from Sarah and fill several other roles, potentially simultaneously. And this way we don't double up on the Swords on one team in case they have a counter. I just realized that not only does every team have Wide Area Search with my setup, they also have access to a weakening spell. Nice symmetry.
As for socializing, her first mission which is to complete the dismantling a Nazi gang is probably not the best place, and while Taylor does know Sarah the best, it's still not a lot when compared to the others, so learning a bit more about our newest adult, who's an active combatant and not from Taylor's personal history, cannot hurt. (have an idea for a team-bonding social vote but we'd need to unlock Tim's Barret Boost first).

To be fair, the "Where is the Villain?" thing is just more of a personal thing for me. I read the chapter this morning, then had all day at work to chew over it and think and not post my ideas, so attempting to figure out match ups and locations was a good way to mentally spend the day. Ideas like "What would the floorplan look like?" "Which location would be most flammable?" etc. came to mind (sports store has clothing out in the open, construction store has chemicals i.e toxic fumes).

Little things that I could know (and likely won't until the chapter) that would affect my placements are things like....
Can Krähenmord's minions "see" in a way that counts to Night? They're created from him unlike canonical Skitter's bugs, and if he can see through their eyes, it might prevent Night from being as active as possible (Similar question about Missy's Puppies/Anubis). If he doesn't affect her, having him placed with Night & Fog would add another level of intensity to their fight.

As I said, can Gespenst possess Missy's arm? I considered if he could control a Device, but figured that the anti-master rules counted in this situation. If he got to her early on, and fired the particle cannon at the backs of the others, that'd be a crippling blow from the start.

What does Schütze shoot? Blaster is a very broad term, so anything could be firing in the teams direction when they burst in. Have the speedster juke out of the way works in case it's a barrier-piercing effect.

Not looking for answers to these as that would be blatant metagaming, so we'll see how the vote and the next chapter turns out.

When we vote to include a new character, it doesn't mean that they come with no complications. She makes the third adult we 'hired' to the team, after Tim and Lacey, both of whom had to get jobs to fund their lives. We don't have that issue with the other school-age cast members because that's the way things work, and every bit as much time is spent at school as the adults are expected to spend at work. We just don't have to make special arrangements for the in-school cast.

Problem is, Tim and Lacey got jobs on their own without forcing Taylor and the rest of Arcana to do the same.

Why can't we you know.... just have Thirteen Hour work for Dragon without Arcana doing the same? The rest of Arcana are teens still going to school and they haven't even graduated early.

Also, we need a vote to give Taylor a spare device that's good enough in case she gets attacked during the building of a template.

This is beneficial to all of them. Arcana gets the backing of a well-respected Parahuman who has contacts spanning the globe thanks to her inventions and also the fact that she is one of the nicest people in existence

The whole offer is really more of a legal way to shower Taylor and friends with money (always let a dragon be your Sugar Mommy) and as Dragon stated, they are free to decline mercenary offers they don't agree with. You can't tell me that if you were offered a well-paying job in high school where you can set your own hours and responsibilities that you'd turn it down.
As for the spare device....probably not? An extra device doesn't add anything extra to Taylor's repertoire, and one reason that Samantha was created was for moments like this, where Taylor is weakened and needs protection. Add the rest of Arcana and Dragontech, and that's a pretty good line of defence for a single day out of commission. It'll be awhile before we even think about doing another Template, no obvious contenders at the moment, so maybe bring it up again when we find someone.

Samanta has limits that Taylor does not. Having a spare device means Taylor would feel safer at the very least and it would be useful in case you know who goes crazy again.

I'm going to "answer" these two questions because this is information OpPent could have gotten from Interpol.

Krähenmord does seem to be able to respond to things entering his minion's area, even when he does not have line of sight. Whether that is him being able to see or somehow else sense what is among his minions or them reacting on their own is unknown.

Schütze shoots balls of light. They can arc to some degree, but it isn't like Flare Shooter where the bullets active seek out their target. Concentrated fire has broken more than one cape's forcefield, but it wasn't with just one hit.

I meant to slip this into the chapter and decided it was long enough already, but Sam was stationed on the roof of Winterrose Academy that whole day. If Taylor were ever in enough danger that she would deploy her Barrier Jacket if she had PS on her, despite knowing that would reveal her identity, she would have called Sam who then would teleport in and protect her.

Did you mean villains here? I don't recall seeing the Three Blasphemies' redneck cousins recently, but on the other hand, nobody else seems to have noted that wording, though I confess to have merely skimmed the comments after this one.

My decisions on where to put people were based on character styles and not wanting to separate Taylor and Samantha unnecessarily, as doing so is rather stressful on the Elder Beast.*

*Hopefully, she isn't human/American enough to be offended enough to reach through to the reality I'm stuck in just to bitch-slap me :p

Ah, @Silently Watches, I think you goofed a bit when you updated Taylor and Sarah's spell list.
Taylor's Bind Mine which got the recent training point has the Master-level text
Bind Mine (3/4 Adept) – Lay a trap that, when disturbed, encases the target in a magic block that prevents escape. 4 traps may be set out at a time.
And Sarah's unpurchased Bind Mine has the Adept text.
Bind Mine (4 XP) – Lay up to 3 traps that, when disturbed, encases target in a magic block that prevents escape.

Do we know what color 13th Hour's magic manifests as?
I'm pretty sure it's light blue now, but it was pink. Here's the scene from the chapter where the template is installed.
This is not the first time you have seen somebody receive a template. You were there for both Tim and Lacey, even if in the end the latter template had not exactly stuck. Both times, the person receiving it was shrouded in bright light for a couple of seconds before reappearing. This time… is not like the others. The light Standstill became flickers, for lack of a better word, switching back and forth between the Device's light blue and her natural pink. Cat Sith falls to the ground and spasms, mewling loudly as the aura around her changes color in time with Sarah's own.

Ah so it's whatever Belkan mage was used as the template ok got it.
Yeah, only difference here is that Sarah changed the way the Barrier Jacket appeared to suit her own tastes
You have to blink several times, first to get the spots out of your vision and then to make sure you what you are seeing is real. «Is that what the Extinction Knight template normally looks like?» you ask Perfect Storm.

«Negative. Much different than baseline
I wasn't actually sure if a mage could change the default Jacket appearance for templates. It would have been funny if we'd converted a male mage into a Calamity Witch and have them rock the combat miniskirt.

I updated one paragraph just now to better reflect what was originally in my head. I wanted to let her magic stay pink, which is why there was the mention that Taylor hasn't seen that kind of flickering before. She didn't REJECT the template as seen by the fact she can conjure lightning, but she made it her own when she immediately started personalizing the armor.
