Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Can we have Missy use her puppies to scout out the sporting goods and construction stores before we go in? They're a lot less conspicuous than Wide Area Search.

I think we're all forgetting that Taylor uses a pole arm as her primary weapon.

"What do you mean, 'have to do commercials'?" demands Kayleigh. "It's more like, 'can we be in the commercials please'."

Such a shocking attitude! She's so out of character! =P

Regardless of who goes where, I hope our new lightning-proof member gets to face the lightning cape.

Thanks for the chapter! I'd thought about us getting hired by Dragon with little real control (other than don't be a villain lol) for salary reasons before; I think it's a good idea.

That meant you had a day where for the first time in nearly eight months, you had to go to school without your Device around your neck.

Doesn't Taylor have the auxiliary storage device linked to her staff? I forget the name. I suppose it's not Perfect Storm though.

"I didn't say that. You just shouldn't come as independents." The fairy woman takes a fortifying breath. "What do you know about corporate cape teams?"
Waitaminute...

Interestingly, Dragon does not immediately argue against Laura's points. Instead she just smiles innocently. "You're probably right about that. It's a good thing that was not the kind of company I had in mind. I was thinking more along the lines of one whose primary business is weapons development for the military and the PRT alongside other military-industrial pursuits. A company for whom hiring scary capes would be seen as a boon rather than a concern. And one that would be able and willing to provide legal protections in a worst case scenario. If you really plan on fulfilling your threat to hunt monsters, collateral damage is a distinct possibility, and having legal aid available and paid for by the company hiring you would be a nice safety net."
Is she...?

The fairy Tinker rolls one shoulder in a negligent shrug. "Oh, just a little Canadian company called Dragontech."
Yup. Honestly' I was wondering when she'd ask something like this. It's somewhat of a natural extension of her hiring Tim, but for different purposes. I'm not seeing a whole lot of downsides, other than maybe a loss of some of the team's agency, but it also opens up possibilities for action that wouldn't be available to us. Probably the biggest issue would be that we would still have to be a Lot more careful about things than we have been, and especially no shooting off Breaker level spells, even during Endbringer Fights, unless the situation has already crossed the Godzilla Threshold, since our actions would reflect back more directly on Dragon than our informal association has caused to this point.

It's probably a bigger step than a lot of people are thinking it is, since in not only more officially formalizes our team, but "legitimizes" us in a way that being somewhat maverick independents hasn't, even if we literally brought the Simurgh Fallen's heads to the PRT's doorstep. On the other hand, that "Legitimization" also brings us one step closer into the net of Cape Politics, since any "Accidents" in the line of Glory Girl's "Use of Force" issue we may or may not have can be brought directly to Dragon for Liability Claims, instead of us simply vacating the scene and lying low for a week or two to let the heat die down.

I'm undecided on this, so anyone else with more articulate arguments for or against, let's hear them.

"What do you mean, 'have to do commercials'?" demands Kayleigh. "It's more like, 'can we be in the commercials please'."

And of course this is the response she would have. :V

Though honestly, I'm more on Laura's side here. If we more formally join Dragontech, and Kayleigh still wants to be the public face of the team and star in commercials, I don't think we should stop her, but if others don't want to they should have the option to sit out unless absolutely necessary.

Chapter stuff & Vote:
"The next two are also Brockton Bay specials even if they're technically Gesellschaft operatives." Two screens take the place of the previous one. The screen on the left shows a male figure in an all-concealing white outfit while the right screen shows a woman in a black version of the same costume. "Fog and Night. Both Breakers, Fog turns himself into a cloud of toxic smoke while Night becomes a highly lethal blender of a monster whenever she is out of eyesight. They work well together for that reason, Fog hiding Night within himself so she can kill without anyone ever seeing her."
I could have sworn these two were taken in when we convinced Purity to turn herself in. She recommended they be sent into Psychiatric Care instead of normal Prison, which for Parahumans probably means the Parahuman Asylum, which isn't much different from a prison from everything I've heard, just with head-doctors in addition to the guards. I don't think we ever found out if they went there or not, but either way, it seems like Gesellshaft probably sprung them for their Philly operation. /le-sigh...

I'm thinking we should use our teams to round out the Pentagram squads. The only cape we know where they "Might" be we already know is really frustrating to go up against, and Gestalt was no pushover either despite everything. There's just too many unknowns in this fight, so sending in more balanced teams is probably the lesser of evils over more heavily weighting a team on the chance of them stomping a group they have type-advantage over.

The PRT Teams already look pretty balanced, but could still use some boosts. We know that the Wolfhead capes tend to have a significant leaning towards the more brute-y side of the powers lottery, so I think the Strikers and Defenders are going to be the keys to success in locking the enemy capes down here, with the ranged, support and stealth strikers being the ones creating the needed openings to bring everyone down.

The office team doesn't look like they have a real "Speedster", and they're the lightest PRT team to boot, going into where they think the enemy's leader will be, and therefore the most likely to be the best guarded. Swords can accelerate with their abilities, but it's a ramp-up, not a burst, and they're better as heavy hitting Strikers. Taylor is probably a good choice to send in here since she's ironically one of the most well rounded of our roster in terms of her capabilities, in addition to being one of our heaviest hitters. I'd also say keep her and Sam together on this one, as another striker, and one with more experience than their own GBot-Sword. Laura would be another good addition as a counterpoint to Taylor's abilities and as another Striker in anticipation of the heavier resistance.

The sporting goods store team doesn't look like they have any real speed strikers either, but they're better off than the others in their overall composition, I think. The one thing they're really missing that the other teams have is someone who can be spedi-sneky, so I say send Missy in on this one as a dart-striker, and she can summon in Anubis as another heavy striker to round out their weaker striker composition overall.

The construction store team looks like the weakest link overall, with only one combat-striker. They have a lot of support and stealth capability, but their range specialist is also Over-specialized to the sniping role. Send in Kayleigh, Sarah and Cat Sith on this one

I've suggested having the team work for Dragon before, but never pushed it because I thought it might be stretching matters to have us taking so much from Dragon. Too much abusing the friendly NPCs tends to lead to GMs making them not so friendly, after all, but what I like most about this is that it makes working with the Guild for S-rank takedowns becomes far simpler. Sure, we can curbstomp many of them; Heartbreaker can't affect us at all, after all, but I'm sure there are plenty of exotic effects that could come back to bite us, or consequences that need a lot more help to take care of, such as stopping whatever failsafe orders Heartbreaker has given.

personally i think the corporate team idea is a bit of a winner, it covers a lot of problems that could crop up in the future

Being a corporate team for Dragon sounds pretty great tbh. Kayleigh can do the PR side that she seems pretty hyped for, mercenary work isn't the worst especially if Dragon vets the jobs before they do them, and nothing is stopping them from taking on bounties or patrolling. They can probably do very little, just respond to big threats and maybe the occasional event security work for the company, and still be a worthwhile investment for Dragon too if they keep knocking over major threats. Also doubt Dragon is going to tie them down in a long term binding contract.

She, uh, still needs money to keep a roof over her head, food, etc. She's perfectly within reason to desire money to live off of.

While that's reasonable every time we give her something she ends wanting more.

Get her back in the Protectorate? She wants magic.

We get her a Guardian Beast? Oh no they hate me!

We waste money and resources to give her a template? Rebranding is not enough, they will hate me even more!

She has been a lot of hard work and effort and so far nothing has really benefited Arcana, is all take with her.

Worse, in this mission we have Intel and a lot of support so it won't really show if she was worth it or not.

Told her the truth about magic. Did not give her what she said she would need to leave the Protectorate.

We get her a Guardian Beast? Oh no they hate me!

I don't see this one. We've had a couple of updates about the troubles she had fitting back in, and dealing with the differences between a Guardian Beast and a case 53, but I found that interesting world building and the QM telling us she was still open to being recruited.

We waste money and resources to give her a template? Rebranding is not enough, they will hate me even more!

We knew ahead of time that finances were an issue with her joining us long term. She expected to be forced to go back to the PRT because we wouldn't be able to pay her, and expected to run into trouble when the whole PPRT Mage Vx. Protectorate Cape explosion happens. That she's worried about this suggests that she hasn't been informed that Alexandria/Costa-Brown wants to roll the Protectorate into the PRT entirely, now that there will be the numbers to make that viable. We don't know that in character, though, as it was in an interlude(iirc), so we can't reassure her on that matter.

When we vote to include a new character, it doesn't mean that they come with no complications. She makes the third adult we 'hired' to the team, after Tim and Lacey, both of whom had to get jobs to fund their lives. We don't have that issue with the other school-age cast members because that's the way things work, and every bit as much time is spent at school as the adults are expected to spend at work. We just don't have to make special arrangements for the in-school cast.

Ahh!!! Thank you! I was having trouble picturing her look, this makes it work for me.

Long day at work where I was unable to post my musings on how I'm going to vote. Also going to predict where I think the villain capes will be and tally up my score after the chapter.

Office building - Likely a fairly important position. Flimmern spending so much time there means there is likely some important connection to Gesellschaft, probably a computer or paperwork providing a direct connection. I'm predicting that it will have Flimmern and Gestalt, and then possibly Night & Fog, as I see Flimmern wanting to keep them close by. Gestalt because he's never actually attacked the mages yet and need to be "motivated" to do so and also because he's a good escape button. Night & Fog are a powerful combination that require either very specific countermeasures or an extreme amount of overkill to deal with. Just who'd you want guarding an important area.

The team here is Alpha, Charlie, and Sword. Alpha's a mid-range telekinetic master with a power blast and a minion on demand. Charlie's an invisible assassin with insane reflexes and exploding knives. Sword is a speedy weakener who can teleport and has berserker tendencies.

From Arcana, I'm going to say I want Sarah and Cat Sith here as it's the most likely to fight Flimmern and together they are perfect for countering that. Electric attacks meets electric immunity. Sticky shield meet superior strength. Teleportation meet anti-teleport binds. Also, if she's as "haughty" as Cricket says, having an opponent with an electric sword might goad her into focusing on Sarah, where she'll have all the advantage. Cat Sith is also good as she can reinforce the two Pentagram mages with Knight Armor and Electric immunity (or just the immunity for Sword).
I also want to send Taylor to the office building. She's good at almost any range, also has anti-teleport binds as well as some nifty time-based magics, and has Wide Area Search to reduce the possibility of ambushes in the building and let her shoot through the walls. This pairs the most experienced with the least experienced Arcana mage, as well as keeping the two team leaders together so if things get complicated, they can come up with a plan together and send it out to their people. As well, since I suspect there is important documentation (likely digital) in the office building and Perfect Storm is the most Willful of all the current Devices, he can be relied upon to prompt downloading all the data available (Or just do it and mention it after the fact).

Construction Store - Likely where Gespenst is based, as there would be construction equipment he could possess and use against opponents. I'm also going with Krähenmord and Wahrheit being present.

Team is Echo, Foxtrot, Mask, and Tome. Echo boosts his sword's attacks and can chain down enemies, as well as punishing those who attack him. Foxtrot has a homing Sniper, and can charge it for more damage. Mask goes invisible and is a potential trump card with the copying of Parahuman abilities. Tome can boost attacks, heal, and bind enemies (I believe can revert Breaker states).

From Arcana, I think that Kayleigh should be present to provide some more close-quarter gunplay, and her new rust bullets would help against the machines. I also think that Laura should be there to provide a wide-scale ice attack to shut down the bird-minions and Samantha should be there to provide addition close quarters attacks and weakening, allowing Foxtrot plenty of time to snipe. Since both Laura and Samantha can teleport, this opens the possibility of this group finishing up quickly and sending them to reinforce another.

Sporting Goods Store - Barbar and Schütze are here, by process of elimination.

Team is Bravo, Delta, Shield, and Rifle. Bravo weakens opponents and entraps them with bind, with a surprise bind if you attack him. Delta's a shooter who can bounce his shots and confuse as to where he's aiming. Rifle's a shooter with homing shot and can teleport. Shield can charge quickly and hit hard, and protect the others.

From Arcana, I'm sending Missy. I don't want her near Gespenst in case he is capable of "possessing" her arm and setting off the particle cannon. Yikes. Since I guessed he's in the construction store, Missy's going here. Her speed and laser sword will let her close in and take out/harass opponents, and her particle cannon can turn the tide on both a large number of opponents or a Brute with brutal efficiency. Anubis is another close-in opponent who is painful to fight in close quarters and can make a weapon from anything around him with Quicksand.

Final Vote

This also means every group gets a Wide Area Search, to root out ambushes and escape routes, as well as a weakening spell of some type to make opponents easier to take down.
