Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Lion Pelt can't handle going melee with Endbringer.
It's not about going melee. That's not where Taylor specializes. Lion's Pelt, combined with Taylor's Shield spells, should allow her to at least be conscious from any attack, which offers her the chance to teleport out and recover, then come back and try again. Also, considering Taylor's range, her defence are more for standing up to projectiles or longer-ranged attacks from the Endbringers then their physical bodies.

Yes, of course. Because anything that doesn't allow soloing Endbringers is clearly useless.

Well in this case... actually yeah, probably. Knight's armor is already strong enough to handle non-endbringer level opponents, so whats the point of better defense if it isnt sufficient for the endbringers too?

Because there may be non-endbringer level opponents that could do enough damage? Butcher-Lung is still around, for example. Who knows when, if even, that one will become a problem for us.
Alternatively, just because it won't stop direct hits by Endbringers, it could be the difference between life and death when taking a glancing hit by an Endbringer.
Know that I'm not voting for Lion's Pelt myself; I just don't think that your argument holds water.

Well the defence of the Barrier Jackets and Lion's Pelt isn't all or nothing. They're composed of layers, and more layers means that damage is reduced. Reduced damage means Taylor can keep fighting for longer, land more hits, especially when an Endbringer starts targeting her for having an effective weapon against them.

Since there is an ongoing debate on Lion's Pelt, amd I don't care about it, I am going to make jokes.

Taylor: Soooo, Lion's Pelt increases my defense. Can it stop bullets?
Perfect Storm: Any object at Sufficient Velocity can piece your armor, mistress.

Actually, this discussion has prompted me to ask a defence related question. @Silently Watches, you previously answered my question that casting Lion's Pelt, then Strong Shield or Shell Barrier would stack the defence boosts (three times Knight Armor, then five times that for the shield), what about Cat Sith's Titan Aura? If she used that on Taylor, would her shield spells be a boosted level of invulnerability? Would Lion's Pelt also increase the the invulnerability granted by Titan's Aura? Would the three skills stack? (Titan's Aura + Lion's Pelt + Strong Shield?)

Lion Pelt can't handle going melee with Endbringer.

Taylor would 'die', if she tries.

While we never want to melee with an Endbringer*, Lion's Pelt would likely be enough to take a hit from Behemoth. Once. While we generally would be better served trying to avoid getting hit, if there is an attack we cannot dodge coming, or something similar(struck by lightning, volcano hits us with a boulder, etc.), then it might be useful. It isn't as strong as our shield spell, but that one is unidirectional, so this has a chance of being useful. How long 'briefly' means is also an important consideration, and if we're stuck tanking a shot, will we have time to cast more than one defense? The situation that comes to mind that it might best be used is combining it with Shell Barrier to protect a large group from an area attack or widespread incoming danger.

I personally consider Singularity as more likely to be useful in the coming weeks, but that does not mean I'm dismissing this spell as not being worthwhile. It is merely lower on my list of priorities.

Even Extinction Knight isn't really meant for melee, merely closer ranged combat with occasional darts in for a strike and immediately darting back out, according to what SW has said. Yes, we don't know much about the EK's skill tree, but SW has made comments on the matter.

I have far too much time on my hands. Have another omake! This omake was co-written with HP Lovecraft, and it is the wackiest one yet.
Kayleigh's Awkward Armory P4

T: Oh god Kayleigh will you please just stop showing me your latest bullets?

K: Just this once? Plz? 🥺

T: Ugh, fine.

*Bang Bang*

A giant 🦨 emerged from the spot Kayleigh shot, its unnatural contours shifting and reflecting the merciless...

T: Solar Wrath!

The 🦨 shrieked its death cry, burning hideously and...

T: Shut up Lovecraft!

Ok. Its not like I like you or anything. Baka!

Neither Titan Aura nor Rampart have any impact on a shield spell. Those spells override a Barrier Jacket's defenses; they aren't an enhancement to a Barrier Jacket.

I guess I'll close this up.

Question about future "plot" votes. This has been an option from the start
Train, either in the real world or in Perfect Storm's simulator. SPECIFY which spell or skill to work on.
Now that we have more mages that desire combat and training (Tim has never felt like that), if we have Taylor train in the real world with another mage (example: Taylor trains Reforge Armor in the real world by having Kayleigh shoot at her), will that result in a point in the chosen spell for Taylor and an XP point for the other mage in question? Could we train the entire group in this way? (Everyone attacks, Taylor uses Crescendo to intercept them)

I guess I'll close this up.

Wish there'd been a last-hours warning or the like to tactically change my vote.... Vampiric Ray was already tied last night when I checked.

Was holding out hope for Lion's Pelt if for no other reason than not really being thrilled when we keep getting spells (I think even Knights Armor, or at least Reforge, got it) where people immediately come out with "We can tank anything but an endbringer who we'll instantly die to, nevermind past fights or what Samantha and Alexandria do every fight!". Bad enough to have legacy spells like Petty Cure where they might have a point, its worse if they're wrong and the choice of voting is actually worth having.

At least Singularity might let us have another try at what was a combo-attack with Vista against Cadejo... presumably for fights where we don't want the group of targets scattering or hiding out in the rubble. It was such a cool idea to fail horribly on type-advantage xD

Training and practicing with our more powerful spells in the real world will have an impact on our PR once people see the craters.
Yes. Maybe we could specifically publicize our training sessions?
Or invite other heroes to them so they can get more experience. This would also give us more varied opponents, and our teammates would benefit further from variety.
Also, inviting other heroes would build our relationship with them. Arcana gets more allies, SW gets to show his worldbuilding.

Suggested candidates for sparring:
Members of Project Pentagram
Protectorate heroes
Members of PRT
Sparring with the above people would improve our relationship with the PRT/Protectorate. We will not bow and scrape to them, but after our last act, we really don't want to antagonize them. If we spar with the PRT, then we should probably hold back a lot. Or organize it into war games.
Phantasm?
We meet them at Endbringer fights, so we might as well get to know them better.
Local independent heroes?
We really don't know these people. Time to learn!

Not if we do it inside a private warehouse. Or Teleport to an isolated location. Or train via an aerial dogfight. Or straight up go to another Earth. We have a ton of options. Also, if they are training in the real world, they'd hold back on training the really edgy stuff (there's a reason the two examples I gave were self-directed on Taylor)

After that short omake earlier I posted earlier in the week, I finally got this done! Hope people enjoy this. Cameos from another universe making an appearance to cover for my lack of skill in original character creation.
Kayleigh's Awkward Armoury
Clip 3

In a flash of orange light, the five girls of Arcana materialized onto the street. Walking swiftly over to a large tent, Calamity Witch nodded at the PRT guards outside as they spread the canvas to let her inside. "Sergeant, Director Paulson said you requested me? What's the situation and how can I assist?"

"Calamity Witch, thank you for coming. We have a massive hostage situation, approximately 50 people being held in the bank over there by a group of villains, and the Protectorate has another crisis across the city. The director said you have a power that can separate capes into another, uh, he said dimension?"

"Correct, but it only works on certain types and doesn't affect non-powered. You tell me about the group involved and their powers and I'll tell you if it will work."

"The leader is some psycho who switches between screaming about how he either wants the Triumvirate to kill themselves or for a teleporter for them to escape with. He's a Striker who disintegrates things. There's a pyrokinetic Blaster, a Striker who shrinks objects and another who can create a limited amount of clones, a Changer/Brute who turns into a large lizard creature and another Changer who can turn into other capes and mimic their powers. Finally there's a Breaker; looks like he's made out of smoke, who can make openings in the walls big enough to crawl through. We've got the cameras; so we can see that they've currently got the hostages surrounded by a ring of Blaster clones, don't know if the real one is with them. The shrinker and the two Changers were seen entering the vault, and the rest have the manager hostage in his office. On top of that, they've got some kind of Tinkertech robot sentry." He point to a camera feed of a hulking black machine with four legs digging into the bank stairs and a conical shape atop it. "Hasn't moved from its spot, but if we step too close or shoot it, it fires on us with a laser blast from the top."

"Alright, so they should all be swept into my field except for the sentry, but it only reacts when you guys get aggressive?" Taylor inquired, to an affirmative response from the Sergeant. "Okay, my team and I will sweep up the capes and drop them out here with you guys, while one of us will come out inside the bank and deal with the sentry. Just hold position around the spot where we disappear. Sound good?"

"Works for me. We'll hold the line out here until you reappear and the sentry is down. Good luck in there, Calamity Witch." He offered a quick salute and pulled aside another officer to issue commands. Taylor departed the tent and headed over to her team.

"We'll be setting up Recursion Field in a minute, so it'll be just us and the villains." Taylor called out as she approached her team. "You should have been listening to the briefing, so prep whatever you need as we'll attempt to take them out while they've still confused." The group moved behind a nearby van to remain out of sight from the villains. "Once inside, we'll deal with the Strikers at range and…"

"Fighting evil by Moonlight!
Winning love by Daylight!
Never running from a real fight!
She is the one named
CLANG…Saiiilooooor…"

Taylor could only stare at the scene. A blushing Laura had cleaved apart a glowing yellow shape, with the music it had been producing slowly fading. Kayleigh herself was scribbling in a notepad and muttering "Good, that would work for my part, keep the love and hopefulness…" A quick look around showed the PRT troopers around them politely keeping their backs turned to the group, so Taylor pulled the girls into a huddle before hissing "What the hell was that!?" at Kayleigh.

"Oh that was some theme music from my soundtrack bullet, though I'd test it out here before we start the fight." Kayleigh chirped. "I know, I know "copyright infringement," but it's more of an homage and it's only going to be a placeholder until I can make our actual theme song. Do you think people will get it? There's great messages about the power of love and fighting against the darkness in the world, but a lot of the details are lost or changed in the dub and most of the subs are hard to track down nowadays and…"

"Sailor!" Taylor gritted out, "We can't use theme music!"

"You're absolutely right, a team of magical superheroes should be better than to resort to cribbing off another group for theme music, we need to be fresh and shiny and original! Alright, I'll double down on our original song, get some personal interviews with everyone to hammer down what vibe they want to represent them, costumes for the music video are easy thanks to our Devices…"

"No." Taylor firmly stated. "We're not doing music for our team at all."

"Calamity!" Kayleigh cried out, breaking the group out of their huddle and drawing the eyes of the PRT teams. "How can you say that?! First you shoot down my idea to announce ourselves with fireworks and an aerial show….

"The Protectorate heroes already dislike me, I'm not giving them more reasons to try and charge me with something."

"Second you tell me that the acronym for our team name I worked so hard on is awkward and unnecessary…"

Missy choked back a laugh "Wait, what?"

"And now you say you don't want theme music?! Calamity, you need to stop being a No-Fun Nelly." Kayleigh finished her rant with a finger pointed directly at Taylor's face and a disapproving look on her face.

"I…" Taylor was at a loss for words. "You can't… I'm not…I'm not a No-Fun Nelly." She weakly said, her face darkening with an embarrassed blush. Taylor looked around her for support. Laura was steadfastly looking off to the side, completely ignoring everyone else. Samantha had a smug smirk on her face and was nudging Missy, whose grin could be seen through her mask. The PRT troopers were thankfully still looking away. No, wait! Damn it, their shoulders were shaking with suppressed laughter.

"So, what was this acronym that had Nelly there so negative?" Missy asked Kayleigh, the grin evident in her voice.

Kayleigh struck a dramatic pose; legs wide, one fist cocked back into her armpit, the other hand straight skyward with all fingers spread. "We are…" she began in a loud voice, bringing all attention around the group towards her and the girls, "Action Response Chicks…" Taylor had heard and seen enough. Face burning, Kayleigh shifting poses with every word, the spell code for Recursion Field's spun through her mind faster than she had ever done before and the dimension formed around them, thankfully removing all witnesses to the rest of Kayleigh's antics and her embarrassment. "...Against Negative Assemblies!!! Hey, where'd all the nice troopers go?"

"I activated Recursion Field. Now only us and the villains are present, any property damage won't exist when I drop it, and, most importantly, there's no strangers witnessing my mortification." Taylor said, her face slowly fading back to normal. "Anyway, the villains now have no hostages and can't escape, so lets get in there and deal with them."

"Got it Calamity!" Kayleigh chirped, before checking her pistol. "I have one theme music bullet left. Can I please use it for this battle? I think you'll find it acceptable."

"Fine." Taylor said resignedly. Kayleigh's face lit up, and she pointed her gun at the bank and fired, detonating it near the entrance. A musical score began playing that Taylor could admit, was fairly appropriate for their upcoming fight. "Sounds great." She said weakly. "Okay Arcana, let's take them down!" Rising into the air with Laura and Samantha, Taylor shot towards the bank, with Missy and Kayleigh keeping pace on the ground.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fight had gone well. The other girls had moved so they would come out where they had originally entered the dimension, dropping the unconscious and restrained villains with the PRT, while Taylor remained inside the bank when she dropped the spell. Several Rust Shooter blasts later, and the robotic sentry was nothing but scrap and Taylor was letting all the hostages out the door.

"Calamity!" Kayleigh shouted as she rushed up the steps, the other girls following behind her. "We did it!" Kayleigh then made a spiking motion, and to Taylor's horror, a yellow magical aura formed from the point of her "spike" and a recognizable song began to play

"We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world."

Gritting her teeth and ignoring the chucking of the PRT troopers, Taylor asked over the music. "I thought you said you were out of music bullets."

Kayleigh smiled like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. "No, I said that was my last theme song bullet. You know, from anime? I still have plenty of other musical bullets I can use whenever and however I please." Kayleigh continued to smile as Missy and Samantha linked arms with her in a human chain and the three began to loudly sing along with the song. Taylor buried her face into her palms while Laura put a commiserating hand on her shoulder.

I have to say, this is better than the Awkward Armories I make.

Thank you. The points system Silently has in place provides a way for me to have a tangible impact on the story provided I give quality content. I crave that validation.
Glad I can give you that… valid…

siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

I hope you realize I'm feeling more and more like Laura with each of these. :p Where do you want the training point/XP?
