Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Shorter learning curve.

I.E. She'll level up faster.

It's like in any game, take the double XP as often as you can.
This is not increased XP. The mindset of a bombardment mage is similar to a pure Blaster, which is what Cailleach is. It's purely a matter of "I know how to fight like this" vs "I have to learn how to fight hand to hand with a weapon".

[X] Armed Device

We do need a Knight, and as I recall we're planning on giving Standstill Infinite Enhancement, so I guess Laura's getting a clean break.

If we did give Laura an Intelligent Device, what device should we then give to Standstill to make her best fit with the resulting team?

Given that Standstill only has a Linker Core rank C doesn't that mean she will get a storage device automatically, since she isn't strong enough for an advanced device? If so she seems like a much better candidate for a template, and the 2 of those we currently don't have occupied are Infinite Enhancement and Extinction Knight.

And as long as I'm actually posting (mostly a lurker rather than actively participating) If anyone does vote to go with a breaker level Telekenisis build maybe throw in a 4th spell slot to get Kinetic Mastery as a modification tier spell? Seems like the sort of thing that would reduce the cost of Heavenfall, and if not it still makes it more effective. And if you really want to go all in on Telekinesis might be worth trying convince the QM to allow an advanced level modification spell as well, Kinetic Prodigy or Kinetic Legend would both work for names. That said I'd imagine it would cost 6 XP, the same as outright Advanced Tier spells since it is pushing mastery of a spell beyond the limits we have seen before. Still, what's an increased XP cost compared to boosting a WTF tier spell to WTF+ tier?

It seems Taylor jealously guards her position of the only Bombardment mage on Earth-Bet.

Every mage she found was shoved into melee or support category.

The only mages she let fight at range are Kayleigh, too weak to ever dabble into Bombardment magic, Epoch, hampered by his lack of Device, and Pentagram officers, wielding wrong kind of Devices.

[x] Intelligent Device

I assume that means it meets with your approval?
Yes. I'm trying to be funny.
That's assuming they cooperate, of course. Somehow I doubt that will be the case.
They won't, naturally.
Does anyone know the weight of an Endbringer, actually? Because so long as they (plus whatever platform they're on) weigh less than 24,000 kg, Missy should be able to get them "falling" upwards.
24K kg in this phase of reality.

Dunno, it's never been stated. A large number of brutes have been able to punch Leviathan and have it knocked back though. Similar but fewer for behemoth, though trying is usually suicide unless you're mega brute because of his many kill aura. On one hand that could be advanced skill: sandbagging. On the other, it could be the endbringers are pretty "light", about what you'd expect from something of their apparent mass.

She doesn't have to get a Storage Device; see Maclibuin, who's also a C-rank and has a Boost Device. D- and C-ranks just don't get the benefit of an advanced Device even though they have to deal with the downsides, namely that there are basic tier spells the advanced Devices can't cast unless you're an A+ mage. Maclibuin doesn't have a problem with that since he likes being a pure white mage, but other people might.

We don't have to go full hog telekinesis from the word go, thankfully. In that respect the new Device system is a godsend. As a AAA mage, Laura will eventually have 16 spells in her arsenal. We have plenty of time to build up from Telekinesis to Greater TK to Heavenfall. That's assuming we even WANT her to go the TK route considering no matter if she gets an Intelligent or Armed Device, she can have an ice element Breaker but using either will put her into mana poisoning.

I don't know that we'd really need this? Kinetic Mastery doubles the force of all levels of telekinesis. If we REALLY want to, I suppose we could, but I'm not sure it's entirely necessary.

Which really is a pity. I mean, if we're not giving them extinction Knight,.. what's the point?

I think people are hoping for more 'heart pumping' blow by blow melee action sequences or something. They're popular for a reason I suppose, but not so much when you've got magic.

meh.

Maybe if we want someone to do a telekinesis build, we could go back and try to talk Epoch into doing it? Maclibuin and Lacey are quite personally committed to their non-combatant paths, but maybe we could bring Epoch more fully on-team.

edit: or we could have Taylor go further down the Telekinesis tree and see where that leads instead

We ARE giving out Extinction knight eventually. We just need to find someone who it suits. For which we need to get to know more people.

Neither Epoch nor Taylor could go full Breaker-level telekinesis. In fact, of all the mages we have, only two can.

Taylor is locked into the spells on her template. She can't grow outside them.

Tim is locked into the spells on his template.

Epoch is A-rank and therefore isn't strong enough, even with a Device, to cast Heavenfall, and without a Device he can't cast Greater Telekinesis.

Maclibuin is only a C-rank and so can't even use Greater TK.

Standstill is a C-rank, so she can't use Greater TK either, and if we give her a template she'll be locked into those spells.

Kayleigh is a D-rank. 'Nough said.

So the only options for full TK build are Laura and Missy. Laura also has access to an ice element Breaker, and using either her ice Breaker or Heavenfall would push her into mana poisoning.

Missy has her Giant summon, though summoning it wouldn't impact her mana poisoning so she could conceivably use Heavenfall without it preventing her from using another big badass spell.

Wait, hold on. I lied. There are actually THREE mages we know about who are strong enough to cast Heavenfall. The third one is Tanya Abigail, a member of Operation Pentagram. She's an AA-rank mage, so she can use WTF tier spells, but she would need an advanced Device to do that, which the PRT's Gears simply can't build.

Dragon
Name: Emulation Model version 2.1
Unison Role: Production
Affiliation: Guild, DragonTech (owner)

SYNCHRONIZATION
Kayleigh: 86%
.....Was going back through the character sheets and wtf? Aimbot Kayleigh get?
Name: Ziz, the Simurgh
Unison Role: Intelligence
Affiliation: Herself, Taylor (loosely), formerly Endbringers

The youngest Endbringer, also known as the "Hopekiller", the Simurgh foresaw that humanity would soon be wiped out due to her and her brothers' actions. She contacted Taylor telepathically and portrayed herself as a young girl when she realized Taylor's invisibility to precognition meant magic might offer an alternative to the eternity of boredom that would follow humanity's extinction. That deception let her manipulate Taylor and Tim into building her a Unison Device shell.

SPELLS
  • Ghostly Grip – Moves objects with telekinesis. The maximum amount of force is enough to levitate inanimate objects with a mass of 50kg and animate objects with a mass of 25kg.
    • UNISON: TELEKINETIC BOOST – If her Unison partner has telekinetic abilities, the mass limit of her partner's spell is doubled.
  • Mournful Echoes – With physical contact, she can see the past of an object or a person. For every day she looks backward, she must rest this power for half an hour. Maximum range is seven days.
  • Loom of Lachesis – She can see the web of possible futures and determine the best course to achieve a set objective. She can now take the decisions of existing mages into account, but she cannot predict new triggers or new mages. For every day she looks forward, she will be unresponsive for one hour and be unable to use this spell for one day. Maximum range is three days.
    • UNISON: BULLET TIME – If her synchronization with her Unison partner exceeds 80%, she can adapt her precognition into a combat-applicable foresight.
  • Fairy Float – A flight spell restricted to Unison Devices. She has limited speed and maneuverability, but the mana cost is so low that her generators replenish her reserves faster than this spell can drain them.
SYNCHRONIZATION
Laura: 96%
Epoch: 88%
Taylor: 83%
Samantha: 82%
To the original reason for the search though, 88%'s not bad I guess, and he really seemed to be getting into fucking with people using Utility lvl telekinesis. I'd still rather Missy or Laura, but if the teams being expanded anyway, may as well add another guy. Tim's not lonely b/c his GB pair and dragon, but he'd probably appreciate it.

Would Epoch be able with Cassi's help?

On that note we should probably at some point send an offer to get her an upgraded device when Tim has build slots, if the PRT doesn't figure out how to do so on their own beforehand.

If I remember right, Epoch declined a device because he didn't want to lose his power. I doubt his feelings on that have changed.

Would Epoch be able with Cassi's help?
Sadly no. She would double his mass limit/total force, but not get him to a higher tier of TK.

Theoretically they could, but I doubt it would be in the near future. The only reason Tim could is that Sextant and IAE have designs already loaded into them that he can use copy if he wants or learn from if he wants to know what he's doing.

Wasn't trying to imply that would be a good idea for a starter build, I was giving out the idea for a long term build. Frankly any starter build that has a WTF tier spell in it already seems kind of broken, and I can't imagine it would actually be allowed for balance reasons. I mean Advanced tier spells that are thematically appropriate like Missy had, sure, but WTF tier shouldn't be available.

Also this wasn't even a suggestion for Laura specifically, but more of a general suggestion for any future mage people might vote to go for a TK breaker build for. Because I'd seen a bunch of talk about a TK focused build to make Missy a Jedi, and none of it took into account Kinetic Mastery even while trying to use Cassiel to bypass the power requirements for a Breaker spell.

I don't know that we'd really need this? Kinetic Mastery doubles the force of all levels of telekinesis. If we REALLY want to, I suppose we could, but I'm not sure it's entirely necessary.

Probably isn't, but given that if it follows the same curve it would triple the force of the base (Adept) level telekinesis spells? Seemed worth suggesting for in case we get a mage who we really want to dedicate to it. And to be fair since that combo would only work for an AA rank or higher mage that would mean they would have at least 15 spell slots total, at that point 1 more slot to buff the power to ridiculous levels would probably fit in with the threads tendency to go for the direct approach better than a lot of other spells would. Though if that is a positive or a negative could turn into a multi page debate on its own.

I personally don't care if Taylor ends up being the only true ranged attacker in our team. I just think it would be best for Laura if she can make a cleaner break with her past identity as Caileach. All the better to tell Winter Hill to fuck off. And if it comes to blows it would be great to see Laura crush Jotunn in a melee fight.

Let her be the knight in shining armor that fight to help people and shield them from harm.

Sure she'll need more training to get used to fighting in melee but so what. We can train up. And most capes aren't a threat to her anyways. When we go after the Fallen we can figure out who's the most danger and terminate with extreme prejudice from long range with Taylor while Laura can go to down and knock out others.

So quick confession time. As I was getting ready for bed I realized all the math I spent an hour (or more?) doing for the higher TK tiers was wrong. I for some reason thought the mass term for force and kinetic energy was GRAM rather than KILOGRAM. As you can guess, this made the numbers get a wee bit bigger than they should have. Some quick recalculations showed that the increase in power of TK between tiers would have to be insane to get where I wanted it to go.

What was my final decision about this, you may be asking?

Fuck it.

Telekinesis produces enough force to lift people. Greater Telekinesis produces enough force to lift cars. Heavenfall produces enough force to lift small buildings and throw metal rods with enough kinetic energy to rival a megaton bomb or a Breaker.

Done, no more, don't care. This is why I'm a physician not a physicist.
