Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

"Crossmatching with known Rare Skill mana structures… Two similar Rare Skills found. 81% match to Summoner Rare Skill belonging to Infinite Enhancement template. 57% match to Toad Summoner Rare Skill. All other Rare Skills less than 30% match. Deduction: Missy descendent of summoner line unknown to Galean Empire."
Summoner? The IE summoner is... was... squirrels? The template isn't on Lacey anymore, can't check what the genus name for the first summon was...
But still, summons. Best Missy. Bring on the giant monster for her to ride into battle.

You give Cassiel a gentle toss into the air, and she glides over to Laura and perches herself imperiously on the villain's shoulder. "And now that that's done, I'll give Shipwright the floor so he can explain things."
I should check the interlude, because I can't remember if Laura recognised Cassiel as the Simurgh or not.
Well, uh, now that I have... I get the feeling Laura is either terrified or just generally concerned about the ziz-fairy sitting on her shoulder. Not that having her basically in her soul before was better.

Kayleigh sucks on her bottom lip for a moment before shaking her head. "Thank you for the offer, but honestly? I don't need to be this incredibly powerful super-mage. The fact that I have magic at all is impressive in its own right, and being able to do a lot of smaller stuff doesn't exactly sound like a bad thing." She looks up at the stack of screens again and the staves and swords and armbands and other things they show. "Not to mention, none of these scream 'me'. It's kind of unfortunate that magic doesn't seem to work with guns very well. At least those are something I'm familiar with."

"Guns?" Firefly perks up at that, her eyes alight with interest. "Now you have my interest. Between me and my twin, I am the one with the greater interest in weapon-crafting. There were some ideas I have had for exotic ammunition based on Sir's historical records. They should work with modified firearms."
All according to plan. They'll have fun.

The grin on Missy's face is positively evil. "Don't worry about. Stick around with us, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean soon enough." She snaps her fingers, and a blood red spark flashes in her hand. "Hey, Taylor? Remember what I said a while back, about how this group needs a team name? Let me reiterate. We now have not six but ten mages and Beasts running around, plus Dragon and Cassiel.
'plus' the one fairy-Device manufactorium. Yes.
She's not in any way wrong though, recruitment exploded quite quickly.

Missy's character sheet updated (again).
And it will again soon. It is inevitable.

And NOW you see why I got so irritated at the people who wanted to template Missy without waiting to see the result of her scan. I asked you guys way back to pick your favorite Rare Skill, and the whole reason I did that was so I knew which one would be the best to give Missy. It was my gift to you. AND why I thought the idea of IE!Standstill was funny, because it would mean both capes you poached from the Protectorate could summon massive pseudo-Endbringers to fight for them.
I am very happy. Very, very happy.
Seriously though, the hell are her summons? Ah well, we'll find out eventually.

…*I* thought it was funny, anyway.
Agreement. Also be funny if IE has a sleep-spell that's a direct upgrade to her shard-power, but that's still unknown to us.

Now, on builds... Devices for Laura and Missy? And a gun for Kayleigh? Probably that Elemental Bullet Press, I think we'll need it.
We may also want to consider getting Kayleigh a GB of the Gear, despite her rank, just so they can assist with buildslots... if that's a possible thing? It'd probably end up dedicated to managing her bullet generation.

Oh—Laura got all the information, but didn't actually say if she was going to go with it? I assume that it'll be a 'yes' if we do give her a Device, an 'I'm still thinking about it' if we don't, and a 'no' if we outright refuse.
Considering the way our decisions have influenced character choices in the past.

Missy's said she doesn't want Blaster, Boost is associated with summoning... but that'd be the same issue, or at least I see it as such. She's going to want an Armed Device. Something suitable for a hit-and-run style, since that's what she already knows—albeit heavily based on her space warping.

Laura's a ranged blaster already, so an Intelligent would be much the same... pelt them with (nuclear)fire and ice from afar while the tiny brawler goes after the enemy with her summons? I'd be terrified. Sam, Cait Sith (I can't see us not getting Standstill), and Missy would make a solid melee group. Laura, Taylor, Standstill/Sarah, Kayleigh as backline, plus whatever comes of the almost inevitable guardian beasts for Missy and Laura?

We're running around with a pack of monsters. The Fallen are going to suffer.

We're doing gunslinger Kayleigh, right?
We are, yes. She has her Device, now she needs her gun(s) and bullets.

@Silently Watches

How many more times do we need to select popping bubbles before we free all of Grey Boys victims?
14 more times? *checks notes* Yep, 14.

Squirrels and something else as they got bigger.

Yes you will. Well, maybe. Depends on how you build her.

I was originally going to put it up to a vote, but I realized one of the choices matched something else in my notes, and I just couldn't not make that possible.

Unless you give Kayleigh general build skills, she won't have slots necessarily. Also, assuming you do the gunslinger route, her skill will let her make far more bullets than a Gear could in the same amount of time. It's a trade off for it being the only thing she can do.

Correct. I have an interlude planned for whenever you decide to give her a Device. Obviously for that same reason if you give her a Device this vote, it'll be the last one built though that really doesn't mean anything.
Missy's said she doesn't want Blaster, Boost is associated with summoning... but that'd be the same issue, or at least I see it as such. She's going to want an Armed Device. Something suitable for a hit-and-run style, since that's what she already knows—albeit heavily based on her space warping.
Just hold off on picking which kind of Device you want to give her. We'll do a dedicated vote for her and Laura if/when you give them Devices, and that will include the type. Partly because I DO have an idea for how you can have your cake and eat it too, but it's a high-risk high-reward build that I'll go into more detail when it's time.

Well, Advanced Devices for Missy and Laura seem necessary, given their skills. I'm personally partial to giving Missy a Boost Device so she can pull out that Endbringer-sized summon, and at her level she can cross-specialize do she doesn't need to be stuck providing support. As for Laura...I'd prefer to give her an Armed Device, since she's defecting from her dad's gang, technically speaking. The Knight Armor would help keep her alive and in one piece if the gang retaliates for some reason.

Building the bullet press for half a slot doesn't make sense, as we have nothing else to spend half a slot on.
Do we get to spend the points we get from a period of building beforehand or afterwards? If before, I would vote for buying Large Weaponry. If after, we should wait with spending points.
I still want to analyze the cannon, but we won't have time for it.

By the way, anybody ideas for team names? I'm currently pondering "Sisterhood of Wyrd" (yay for Shakespear), "The Witch's Kabal" (Taylor's becoming slightly megalomanical) and "Hekate's Walkers" (what better patron for users of alien dimensional travelling magics than a goddess of witchcraft and crossroads?)

Since we wouldn't have enough tech points left over to buy any skills, I'm currently thinking of doing:
  • Pop Grey Boy's bubbles (max 4 slots, 3 bubbles per slot, 0 tech points) for 1 slot
  • Build advanced Device for Missy (2 slots, 1 tech point)
  • Build advanced Device for Laura (2 slots, 1 tech point)
  • Build elemental bullet press and guns for Kayleigh (1 slot, 1 tech point OR 0.5 slot, 0 tech points)
with 3 tech points left over so that all the new mages are properly equipped and can start training. We should probably vote for the Large Weapons skill the next time we have a Tim vote so that we have more Breaker-level attacks to go with the possible new boss-summons.

We have plenty of tech points.

I'd say...

@Silently Watches how many slots for making Kayleigh her powered armor with integrated flight harness, grappling hooks and various utility options like magitech holsters for her gun(s)? Maybe a shield generator on one of the arms to serve somewhat like a SWAT Ballistic shield?

@Demojay 's plan seems like the best. Popping Grey Boy's bubbles is a net positive for both PR and hero purposes. All the better if we can free heroes that got trapped by the bastard.

[] Plan Build up and Guns
-[] Pop Grey Boy's bubbles (max 4 slots, 3 bubbles per slot, 0 tech points) for 1 slot
-[] Build advanced Device for Missy (2 slots, 1 tech point)
-[] Build advanced Device for Laura (2 slots, 1 tech point)
-[] Build elemental bullet press and guns for Kayleigh (1 slot, 1 tech point)
-[] Unlock Large Weapons for Tim (7 Tech points spent)

@Silently Watches is the above a valid plan?

Edit: Also, for team name... how about the Dawnbringers?

We bring the dawn of hope for the future as well as the age of magic for Earth Bet.

Buy Barret Boost (6 points) – Serums can be produced that improves a parahuman's or mage's ranged or area of effect abilities, be it through increasing strength or removing restrictions. In individuals without such powers, they will gain one of a few possible ranged powers. Effect lasts 5 minutes. With Mutagenics skill, a serum to provide this enhancement or power permanently can be produced that would create mild mutations.
-[] Unlock Large Weapons for Tim (7 Tech points spent)
Character list says we have 6 points. Depends on if Silenly allows us to use points gained from vote.

If we can't spend the tech points gained from this build in the same turn we should save the points so we can get Large Weapons next turn. Its about time to unlock Tim's Breaker equivalent.

Building the bullet press for half a slot doesn't make sense, as we have nothing else to spend half a slot on.
A half-slot is how I'm denoting a Gear building with their own skills, not needing Tim's assistance. As elemental bullets are technically energy weapons and therefore covered by Firefly's Merchant of Death skill, she doesn't NEED to give Tim the extra slot to build it since Gears can use two slots on their own. In this particular case, the half slot is to give myself some leeway based on the result of a later vote (specifically Missy's chargen). When it's time to vote, just copy-paste the whole thing and we'll move on from there.

So long as you already have the points, you can buy a skill (or multiple skills) any time in a build vote. We've even before bought a skill and then built something using that skill in the same vote (provided there were enough points to buy the skill without the point building the new thing provided).
All these are kind of villainous sounding though. PR is important.
I mean…
  • Dark and Edgy – Your Barrier Jacket doesn't inspire thoughts of action figures and kissing babies, and calling yourself Calamity Witch just compounds the problem. Might as well get used to the unfounded accusations of being a villain.
It wouldn't be out of character.
Can we pick it twice so she has a sniper rifle beside her gunslinger pistols?
No, picking it twice means you build two bullet presses. If you want a sniper rifle, say you want to build THAT. Or since there was talk about teaching Kayleigh a skill to build her own weapons, you could wait until she's had a few fights and buy that skill for her. Up to you.
@Silently Watches how many slots for making Kayleigh her powered armor with integrated flight harness, grappling hooks and various utility options like magitech holsters for her gun(s)? Maybe a shield generator on one of the arms to serve somewhat like a SWAT Ballistic shield?
Power armor is between 2 and 4 slots (2 for the armor itself, and 1 for every two active systems). Plus don't forget that she HAS a Barrier Jacket, so if it's basic defense you want, she's got that covered. If you just wanted to build a flight harness, either thruster or (probably better) anti-gravity, that's 1 slot.
@Silently Watches is the above a valid plan?
It is.

Let's leave the first two out; we have one male member already, and misspelling 'Cabal' likely would irritate Taylor and send the wrong message. Hekate's Walkers is a bit better, but Hekate was a villain, not a hero.

I'd go with some thing like 'Taman Guard' (referencing the Russian Night Witches regiment) or something invoking an order of knights or mages. One of the big things we should focus on is that we're all flying heroes, so a name which reflects on either our speed or maneuverability would be nice.

Edit: and yes, it's in-character, but not all of us have to be edgy, and I think Kayliegh would fail at being edgy if she tried.

As for our fiends? Definitely build advanced devices for our new recruits, and a gun press for Kayliegh.

...as an aside, are the S9 dead and gone in this continuity? The Teeth and the Fallen are/were still kicking around, as are the Elite, but I can't remember if those tossers and their plot-armor clad leader are still kicking around. Ditto for Ellisburg and Eagleton; we could earn some serious cred and resources if our debut involves removing one of America's remaining canker sores.

Could we maybe get a TSAB interlude where the subject comes up before we start branding? I kinda want Teana to suggest Riot Force 6... ;)

Heard and understood.

Yes you will. Well, maybe. Depends on how you build her.
If we somehow don't make use of Missy's rare skill I'll be appalled. Truely appalled.

[] Plan Build up and Guns
Seems like the best route, more mages Mk II! With guns!
Well, to be honest, I'd consider getting Kayleigh a anti-grav flight harness instead of the grey boy bubble pop. Since she can't fly, unlike literally everyone else.

Long dead. Riley's alive and working under supervision, but the rest are gone.
Well, Cherish is still out there. She wasn't part of S9 when they got beamed to death.

Plus don't forget that she HAS a Barrier Jacket, so if it's basic defense you want, she's got that covered.
I feel like everyone forgets that Barrier Jacket's alone provide a pretty hefty Brute rating. Sure, it's not Knight's Armor... but godsdamnit, we tanked an RPG to the face and were (mostly) fine!

TEAM NAMES

The Charmed Ones! :D
We could legitimatimately call them The Hex Girls! :p
Team Prestidigitation!
The Spell Slingers!
Crucible! It's like Cauldren, but way better!
The Arcanum! Or The Arcana!

Considering ALL the Greek gods were assholes, I don't know that Hecate would really qualify as that much worse than any of the others. I don't even remember any specific myths about her.
we have one male member already
Not rea— It depends on how we're defining the team. If it's everyone who can and does teleport to and from Dragon's place, then yes, there are two males running around. If it's the face-punchers who are going to be the entirety of the team in the public's mind, it's an all-girl squad.

The S9 (except Bonesaw) were all crispified by Breakdown. Ellisburg and Eagleton are still around.

Based on the PRT stuff from Weaver Dice, any mage with a basic Barrier Jacket (i.e., anyone with a Device other than Armed) would be a Brute 5. Knight Armor is probably 7 or 8.

 I love how no one's mentioned anything related to a coven. Low hanging fruit.

How about the Dawnbringers?

We've already changed the world for the better and 'killed' the Hopekiller. With our actions we bring the dawn of hope for the future and also, by our very existence we have brought the age of magic for Earth Bet.

Power armor is between 2 and 4 slots (2 for the armor itself, and 1 for every two active systems). Plus don't forget that she HAS a Barrier Jacket, so if it's basic defense you want, she's got that covered. It is.

Great. Hm...

Eh, a barrier jacket is all well and good but I'd like to give Kayleigh another line of protection since she won't have as powerful a barrier jacket as Taylor and others (at least IIRC barrier jackets scale with the linker core of the users). Basically I want to give her Iron Man armor with various gadgets.

Powered armor with anti-gravity (to let Kayleigh move around obstacles without giving her position away since she's going to be acting as snipers and precision ranged support for us), thrusters for general flight. Shield generator (directional) to allow her to tank hits better, and a active camouflage/stealth system. So 4 slots should do. If she's going to be our resident sniper we need her to be highly mobile and sneaky.

No one counts the Tinkers in their workshops. :p

Sorry about that. It's 1 in morning in my part of the world, and I forgot you English-speaking people have this annoying tendency to write C where I would use K. ;)

What? No. Unless you mean that there's already a cape named Hekate in Worm's universe (and I don't remember her if she exists), then I have to categorically deny Hekate being anymore villainous than any other chthonian deity.

Edit: Double Imped by OP. I should really go to sleep...
