I'm not sure. If he can reach high speeds on his own bodily merits, why even bother shifting into a cheetah? Why not a... stream of chemicals?
So I can elaborate on this point since you seem to be missing an important component of how Chemo works.

Chemo's got a massive semi-permeable membrane that acts as his "skin" and while it's not the only part of him it's not a part he can abandon. Thus, he needs to remain "solid". He cannot be literally a stream of chemicals as while he can mimic acting like a liquid, he's always solid at any given moment and while he can make gas inside of himself, he cannot turn into gas. Thus, Chemo could never become a "stream of chemicals"

As for why bother shifting into a cheetah, shifting into a cheetah is by no means meant to be the optimal way for him to increase his speed and was more meant as a hypothetical way he could do so that I will elaborate on now. It's not exactly revolutionary to say that humans were not built to run as fast as possible. Bipedalism is most effective for endurance running not sprints and humans are not the most effective bipedal runners (Ostriches are better). As such if Chemo wanted to move faster than a bipedal humanoid of his size and density wants to he could shapeshift to a quadrupedal form (which is better for running fast since you have feet in contact with the ground generating force more often). In doing so Chemo would likely be better off pulling from the natural kingdom and mimicking other adaptations of fast running animals (their style of knees, their weight distribution, how they are streamlined) in order to make himself faster. If Chemo was generating the same amount of power in a bipedal form and a quadrupedal form the quadrupedal form would almost always be going faster for sprints (and he doesn't really need to worry too much about endurance). Thus Chemo changing into a form like a Cheetah's would make him faster than remaining in his humanoid form.

It's not the optimal absolute best way to move as fast as possible. I originally compared Chemo's ability to mimic superspeed to a vehicle because I believe (I'm not a physicist) that this optimal form of locomotion on the ground through purely his own ability to generate force and shapeshift would probably be something resembling a hybrid between a car and a rocket (I picture the ThrustSSC without the engines as not a bad idea for what it might look like). That shape and structure would let him move faster than any biological creature naturally would (despite wheels being beneficial as an evolutionary trait, proto-wheels are not and thus evolution selects against biological animals having wheels) and thus let him "mimic" superspeed by letting him rapidly increase how fast he can accelerate.

Additionally, regarding his ability with explosions what he can do is basically exploit a basic chemical reaction and the law of Newtonian motion that says every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Chemo can secrete chemicals outside of his body. Thus, he could theoretically secrete any type of chemical inside of him. Alkali Metals explode violently when placed in contact with oxygen or water. Chemo has Alkali metals inside of him. Thus, he can secrete them. Furthermore, what Chemo can then do is secrete the chemical in a place where he's shapeshifted to form a sort of tube, similar to some extent to the barrel of a gun, that directs all of the force of the explosions outwards in a single point. Because every action has an equal and opposite reaction this directed explosion ends up propelling Chemo the opposite way of whichever direction the explosions was directed via the tube. As such Chemo could theoretically basically propel himself like a rocket via using directed intentional explosives caused by specific chemical secretions. This theoretical method of locomotion is not one that is fully under his own power and one that requires a sort of internal fuel source.

As for why Chemo might shapeshift into a cheetah and not the most optimal form possible? The short answer is that Chemo doesn't know how to make absolute best use of his powers. He can't do a lot of the most impressive hypothetical uses of his powers (generation of lightning for example requires him to be aware of how acids are used chemically to create electrical currents and batteries). Because of this the learning process for how he gets better is likely going to require some trial and error and a good deal of mimicking things he sees and knows work. Chemo isn't going to be using his powers anywhere near optimally to accomplish what he wants much in the same way that a five year old has no idea how to optimally use their body to move as fast as possible in a sprint (only for Chemo it's even harder to figure out).

Do you require further elaboration or have I sufficiently clarified how the physics of how Chemo can shapeshift to move faster (there are other ways he could do it beyond what's written here but I want to keep things simple) and how he can move using secretion as well as why Chemo wouldn't use his abilities in the most optimal way possible (which was not as you described it)? I can further elaborate on the topic if you're interested or curious and a physics person could jump in and attempt to figure out what would be the best way for Chemo to get around in any given situation.

It's really interesting to hear about the inner workings of something like this

Also all the science talk reminded me of something I was wondering earlier, would Woking in the carapace armour we got from the Atlanteans count as suitable biological for Moon?

Yes working with the carapace would work. That being said the current phrasing of the trait does not indicate that it needs to be "biological" merely that it needs to be "a learning action that interests Dr. Moon". Granted this might be an oversight on my part but regardless his trait should activate on working with the Carapace.

I thought so, I also wouldn't say that the wording needs changed since while it's safe to say that the majority of actions that would interest him are biological he's sadistic enough that I imagine he'd still be interested in working on things like poisons or melter weapons

Now the question is just would his trait trigger the coin flip or the +10 for carapace armour? I imagine the latter because the ability to bond a person to a biological suit of armour seems right up that sick bastards alley

The +10 most likely. There could theoretically be an action that involves the carapace armor that bores him (like its distribution) but it's unlikely that you'd want to put him on that action.

So basically either find away to get Chemo on out side,or make an allience with Chemo. Option 2 if optio. 1 doesn't work Terminate Chemo.

I am personally would rather have him on our side.
Nah. We don't need to go that far. We can just handle him like we handle most criminal powerhouses. Don't give him a reason to hate us, and make really pissing us off be way, way more trouble than it could possibly be worth. Happily, we can essentially treat the Brain and Chemo as a unit on this one, and we've more or less been following that plan already.

Well, he's on the short list of people who've inflicted noticeable injury on Superman, though not on the other short list of people who made a sincere effort to find his secret weakness.

(The two lists actually don't overlap very well. Lex is very interested in Superman's weaknesses but has never directly or through first-order proxies injured him. Lobo didn't give a shit about Superman's weaknesses, he just beat the crap out of him and straight-up kidnapped his ass. Leslie Willis made a sincere attempt to discover Superman's secret weakness during his first appearance, but all she got out of it was a bruised knee)

Non-Canon Omake: Cassandra's Perfect Valentine
So, this is a non-canon omake. Originally it was going to be a lot longer but I ended up cutting it down a lot. I also ended up sort of shifting plots halfway through this omake because of that but I'm willing to leave this as negative space if someone wants to explore this stuff. This omake is very loosely placed in the same universe as the "The Boyfriend" omake but it isn't a hard and fast thing. I hope you guys enjoy it as this is my belated happy Valentine's celebration. I'll try and get some more stuff out this week and if you've got any questions feel free to ask them. Without further ado here is the omake, written in less than an hour (but I did do all the skeletoning well in advance).

Non-Canon Omake: Cassandra's Perfect Valentine
Jinx
So, Cassandra's relationship with Hiro had somehow managed to last about two years and now they were coming up on Valentine's day which meant Cassandra was going full control freak about things. Normally Jinx would just let her friend run the show, after all Cassandra lead and she followed and that was the natural order of their relationship, but in this case it was incredibly annoying and so Jinx naturally felt the need to try and keep Cass's more extreme neurosis in check. Jinx understood wanting to have a perfect day and all but attempting to construct drones to corral any and all birds that might cross her path so as to maximize the evenings ambiance was a step or five too far in Jinx's opinion. Jinx wasn't exactly having a great time dealing with all of this even if she was happy to help her friend with this.

Part of the issue Jinx had was that she just didn't get why Cassandra cared so much about Hiro. Cassandra was supremely confident and quite frankly superior to most people on the planet. Jinx wasn't an out and out misanthrope, but at the same time she wasn't exactly fond of people and yet she liked Cassandra and so it irked her to see Cassandra so eager to compromise herself for the sake of her date. Jinx had tried the whole romance thing very briefly, Kid Flash was fun to tease, but she utterly and completely refused to alter herself or change her behavior for anyone else's sake. So, she simply couldn't understand why Cassandra was so willing to do so. It wasn't intolerable even if the mushy wordplay bullshit was incredibly annoying but Jinx just didn't get it.

Still, she'd support Cassandra through it regardless, Jinx didn't need to get why Cassandra felt the way she did since if it made her happy and Cassandra wasn't compromised then that was good enough for Jinx. She'd already checked with the biggest bossman and he'd approved of Cassandra's relationship, at least enough to let her waste time and effort on it, so Jinx settled for just making sure Cassandra was happy and sane. Of course, considering who Cassandra was and what she was capable of that wasn't exactly easy.

"So run this by me one more time?" Jinx flippantly questioned as Cassandra glared at her for apparently not taking her Valentine's day plans seriously.

"Absolutely everything about this date needs to be perfect" Cassandra began "I refuse to settle for mediocrity or mere adequacy. My relationship with Hiro is important and so I want everything going off without a hitch so listen to me when I tell you about what needs to be done! Anything that stands in the way of my perfect night needs to be completely and utterly obliterated"

Jinx wanted to roll her eyes at Cassandra's almost megalomaniacal speech but out of respect for her best friend she bit her tongue and remained somewhat respectful as she lounged on a couch in Cassandra's penthouse.

"Hiro will be flown out a few days before Valentine's day so as to minimize the effect of jetlag during the date" Cassandra continued "If you've finally got a working anti-jetlag spell I'd appreciate you casting it on him"

Jinx shrugged

"I've got nothing that doesn't potentially have horrifically nasty side effects" Jinx calmly replied to which Cassandra imperceptibly nodded "I could give you guys some kind of love potion or infatuation spell if you want to just take the easy way of having a perfect date?"

"No" Cassandra bluntly refused.

Jinx could kind of get why Cassandra would refuse to do so, after all unless you kept on casting the magic on the person in question, the relationship wouldn't last and having a serious relationship with a partner that lacked any sort of real agency wasn't exactly something that would reflect well on the controller. That being said Jinx still felt like it would be so much easier to just use a little mystical nudging here and there. No out and out control but managing relationships could be so much easier if you could just cut out all the work and the stress and the lack of security in knowing whether or not your partner loved and appreciated you. But Cassandra apparently wanted all of that stuff in her romantic relationships so Jinx wouldn't push for it. She'd put the option on the table and Cassandra had rejected it so that was all the discussion necessary on that front.

"I figured you'd say so but I wanted to give you the option" Jinx openly admitted.

"Thank you" Cassandra dryly responded "I wouldn't mind you using some kind of love spell as a holiday themed distraction for the Teen Titans if you could do so discreetly but if anything could be tracked back to us in anyway then it's not worth the effort"

"Alright got it that plans most likely scrapped for now" Jinx responded back smoothly "So Hiro comes in and is no longer jetlagged. What actually happens on Valentine's Day?"

As Cassandra laid out her various plans for a perfect Valentine's Day and Jinx had to constantly toss out suggestions on how to make things a lot more feasible and reasonable and just generally toning things done and keeping Cassandra's control freak tendencies at least somewhat in check and the budget for this date somewhat under control.

Of course, after all of that Cassandra promptly dragged her off to go and pick out what clothes she thought looked the best. Jinx was personally of the opinion that Cassandra could have worn anything and her best friend would wow her boyfriend regardless, but Cassandra was incredibly focused on looking good for everyone looking in on the relationship. Eventually Cassandra settled on a black and emerald green belted dress with matching gloves and heels. A jacket or a coat would likely be added if the weather looked to be cold later in the night.

Naturally picking out clothes for Cassandra meant picking out clothes for Hiro since Cassandra practically dressed her boyfriend whenever they went out in public. It was weird in Jinx's opinion, if you were going to be that controlling why not just use a flesh golem, but with Cassandra and Hiro is seemed to work well enough. Cassandra was certainly the more sartorial of the two so it's not like they ever looked bad or anything along those lines.

Lastly after all of the arrangements had been made it was up to Jinx to deal with the Teen Titans. Cassandra refused to have them crash her date and so it was up to Jinx to come up with a very noticeable problem for the Teen Titans to solve far, far away from her and her date. Jinx of course also had to make sure nothing got tied back to LexCorp. It wasn't easy but Jinx managed to come up with something serviceable if not incredible.

Jinx would through multiple proxies, give the criminal couple Punch and Jewelee a pair of mecha-suits with which to rob a diamond exchange. The crimes would be on brand enough and punch and Jewelee would wreak enough havoc that the Teen Titans wouldn't be able to afford to spare any manpower focusing on Cassandra. It would work well enough for what it needed to be.

And so, Jinx ended up wasting an afternoon satisfying her best friend's desires to have the setup for a perfect date. She didn't mind it overmuch as if Cassandra wanted this Jinx was fine giving it to her even if she didn't quite get all of the ins and outs of why she wanted it. Jinx still understood it a hell of a lot better than almost anyone else on the planet and she could work with Cassandra regardless. Still a part of her couldn't help but dryly point out that if the relationship continued to work out for the best, there'd be even more hell to pay when the two of them eventually got married.

Hiro Okumura
Hiro knew he was a lucky guy. Firstly, and perhaps foremostly he was born a super genius. Now some people might call that massively arrogant and lacking perspective, Hiro was well aware of how absolutely brilliant he was mentally. He ran circles around all but the greatest of mental giants, even genuinely brilliant individuals often struggled to keep up with his mind. Of course, it was that mind that provided him with safety stability and countless other blessings.

Secondly and much more obviously, Hiro had a beautiful, wealthy girlfriend who was genuinely interested in him for himself. While he had no doubt that his intellect made him a lot more useful to Cassandra than a simpleton or an ignoramus might, the fact of the matter was that Cassandra Luthor had her pick of superheroes, princes and more and yet she still chose to date him over all others and engaged with him intellectually. Cassandra was absolutely incredible in all of the most interesting ways.

Cassandra was undoubtedly brilliant, relatively speaking, but she still wasn't as effortlessly erudite as Hiro. She had to struggle and fight and work hard to achieve her brilliance. And yet despite all of that she welcomed when Hiro could challenge her and would strive to match if not surpass him as quickly as possible. Hiro had long been told that drive and hard work could overcome raw genius but until he'd gotten to know Cassandra, he'd never seen it in action. Cassandra might not have been as smart as him but she had a hunger and ambition like nothing else he'd ever seen before. Hiro found it all so very enchanting and so he couldn't help but get swept up in her ambitions and plans and grand schemes, especially since he had none of his own. He was content to support his girlfriend and to let her have all of the plans and ambitions while he still challenged her and encouraged her to occasionally go off the beaten path.

Of course, Cassandra was also beautiful in the more conventional sense. Not everyone found Cassandra's killer instinct, relentless drive to dominate and be the best and insatiable thirst for more to be beautiful, but almost everyone who was attracted to women could agree that Cassandra looked beautiful. She was elegant, attractive and her own mastery of her body showed in her smooth flowing movements that belied how utterly powerful she was. It didn't exactly take a rocket scientist, which Hiro was qualified as, to realize that in terms of appearance Cassandra was a total knockout.

And even if Cassandra had been ugly and idiotic, she'd still likely have been completely out of Hiro's league with just the pedigree behind her name. Cassandra Luthor was the only heiress of Lex Luthor and thus she was easily worth billions. Hiro had never met Lex Luthor in any meaningful capacity but he knew of how massive he was as an economic and technological juggernaut. The man had power and wealth so great that he could do his level best to waste all of it over several lifetimes and he still wouldn't run out of things to give. And Cassandra was the heiress to all of that.

She was completely and utterly out of his league and yet she'd still decided to be his girlfriend. Hiro knew full well how lucky he was. Cassandra had even gone out of her way to meet his parents and to be the best girlfriend she could be. So, when she wanted a few things from Hiro, he was more than happy to comply. He wore whatever suits she wanted him to and let her set the speed of the relationship because it was what worked best for the both of them. Relationships were built on compromise after all and Cassandra indulged in enough of his hobbies and interests for him to be more than happy to do the same for her.

So, when Cassandra invited him over to Jump City for a Valentine's Day celebration Hiro was all for it. He arrived well in advance and while he had no idea what was planned for the day thanks to some of Jinx's hints and comments he'd been prepared in advance for Cassandra's plans.

Whilst Hiro had never met Lex Luthor to any meaningful capacity he had met Jinx and she was practically an in-law in and of herself. The pink haired albino was often cruel callous and dismissive and whilst she understood Cassandra better than Hiro himself did at times, she clearly didn't understand how his relationship with her worked. Jinx pretty obviously didn't like Hiro and yet because he made Cassandra happy, she tolerated him and treated him with kindness. Hiro couldn't out and out say that he liked Jinx, he didn't share nearly the same amount of closeness or fondness as Cassandra did with the sorceress who was constantly in lockstep behind her, but he did respect her and value what she was to Cassandra. Dealing with Jinx was a part of his relationship with Cassandra and it was by no means like pulling teeth. Oftentimes Jinx was attempting to help, blindly following along in Cassandra's ambitions and desires. As someone loosely attached in a similar manner Hiro could hardly judge her.

So, when Jinx had given him advice on what to do and get, he'd heeded it and done what he should have. It was easy enough all things considered.

When breakfast on Valentine's Day rolled around, he'd had the expensive bouquet of flowers that Jinx had recommended he get Cassandra already prepped and ready to go. Cassandra no doubt figured out exactly how he'd come to get them but she still seemed to appreciate it nonetheless. The ensuing flirtation and feeding was enjoyable, Hiro would never be unhappy with his beautiful girlfriend deciding to get close and intimate with him, and it had Jinx promptly miming gagging and choking to death as the two of them exchanged cheesy romantic dialogue and bad puns.

Their time in the lab was entertaining and the various gifts they'd exchanged and made for each other were pleasant as well. Cassandra often liked to make sweeping grand gestures to him in order to prove that she was the best, even at being a girlfriend, and so Hiro had quickly gotten used to her constantly giving gifts. Hiro couldn't match her in terms of quantity or expense so he tended to try and give Cassandra more intimate and personal gifts when possible. Having Jinx give input as to Cassandra's favorite style of sunglasses or what kind of watch she might like or any number of things was incredibly useful.

It might've been a little odd to some that he was being told how to dress and following events on an itinerary for Valentine's Day but Hiro wouldn't have it any other way. This was Cassandra's way of showing she cared and she enjoyed it in and of itself. Cassandra wanted to have a perfect Valentine's day on her terms and according to her definition. Hiro would have been satisfied with just about anything she came up with but as his gorgeous date's eyes lit up as she laughed at some stupid joke he made whilst sitting in the middle of one of the most expensive restaurants on the West Coast of the USA, he couldn't help but be glad that she put in all of that effort because it seemed to make her happy. And for Hiro that was enough.

Hey so this here is another status report as to how things are going for me. I'm currently reworking the Dr. Fate portion of the update (I'm not happy with how it is as of now) so the update is still a little ways off and it should be coming soon. That being said the Tales of Earth 17: Smart as a Whip and Last Days of Krypton part 7 are almost done. If I do not get the mainline update out today, I'll get one of those up instead.
I will freely admit that CassandraXHiro is cute AF and I love it and would support any plan that leads to this result.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the dynamic between the two. I do think romance is one of my weaker areas of writing, so hearing that you found it cute makes me happy and its a sign (at least to me) that I might be getting better at that kind of writing.
The character dynamics will probably be rather different all things considered.
I mean the character dynamics will almost certainly be fairly different even though something along these lines is still possible. Unless the quest is actively contriving to make the exact scenario happen and the dice cooperate then the dynamic in the omake won't exist 1 to 1.

That being said I don't think the quest wants the exact dynamic written in the omake (in the omake Lex and Hiro have never spoken to each other or met in a meaningful capacity, Cassandra is living on her own in Jump City at about 16 and Lex Luthor is known for hating and despising Superman). I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that at least some of the dynamic is almost guaranteed to be different.

Edit: Also, as a bit of an addendum to your point about the relationship likely being different in the mainline quest, I am of the opinion that relationships are not static things. The HiroXCassandra dynamic explored in the omake is not eternal and wouldn't last forever. It's how the relationship is fairly early on (less than five years in while both involved are teenagers). Whether said relationship would last Cassandra and Hiro are 30 or so is a whole different beast. This doesn't discount people liking the dynamic and wanting to bring it about and you can enjoy it as is but I think it's fair to point out that even if you were to bring about a relationship identical to the one in the omake, I as a writer would still probably introduce some degree of conflict and alteration later on.

Tales of Earth 17: Smart as a Whip
So I couldn't finish things in time but I do have this up late at night. This is the last of the omakes I needed to make for the cancelled creative writing contest. I got to put on my crazy transhumanist hat on for this one and even though there are no POV changes or even really much action, I hope that the story comes through clearly and that the shifts are clear as well. I had a ton of fun writing this and while it did fight me a fair bit I am happy with the final product.

On an unrelated note I finally got to use Milton Fine in some capacity. He probably won't ever appear in quest but I am glad I got to technically use him here. This amalgamation might be a little odd since it is arguably a fair bit more literal than any of the ones observed in the previous omake set on Earth 17 but I think this works best as the most interesting story. I am interested in hearing what people think and if you've got any questions feel free to ask them.

I hope you all enjoy and without further ado here is the omake as promised.

Tales of Earth 17: Smart as a Whip
Brainycat
Brainycat knew what it was like to evolve. She'd kept on growing and adapting and improving her entire life, always increasing her own abilities. Most people worthless cretinous peons that they were only knew of her ascension into Brainycat, the absolute pinnacle of brains and beauty and thus by extension brawn, and not all that had come before it. At absolute best people could figure out who Selina Kyle had been before she'd moved on to the next stage of her evolution. Nobody knew of Millie Fine, who'd given way to Selina and had in turn metamorphosized into her current form of Brainycat. She had no doubt that she'd eventually surpass the limitations of Brainycat and become something new. Cats did have nine lives after all and she'd only used three of them.

Brainycat could acknowledge her own history and see clearly how she'd grown past it and become superior. There was no shame in evolution and progression and she could freely acknowledge how far she had come.

Millie Fine was a worthless useless slip of a girl. A mousy orphan whose latent mental abilities were exploited by a carnival to entertain gullible rubes invested in a cheap farce. Millie had hated herself. She'd known exactly how pathetic and worthless she was and how Metrotham would utterly destroy her if she were to venture forth into it. Millie Fine had wanted to disappear, only finding kinship in the various feral felines that wandered through the carnival fairgrounds. She wanted to be like them, confident elegant and always in control. And so after sufficient humiliation and degradation Millie Fine came to the most important decision of her existence, namely to end it by becoming someone new.

She pulled from the minds of various unsuspecting individuals and constructed a new persona. She altered her appearance, her behavior, her habits and more all in the name of becoming superior to what she once was. Creating the paper trail and the documentation to verify her own existence was a bit of a chore but it was the least she could do to pave the way for improved replacement. And Selina Kyle was in every imaginable facet simply and utterly superior to Millie Fine.

Where Millie was plain and mousey, Selina was glamorous and beautiful. Where Millie was timid and afraid of confrontation, Selina was incredibly self-assured and audacious. Where Millie shied away from confrontation and breaking away from what society demanded of her, Selina was willing to break the law and violate convention so long as it got her what she wanted. Selina was in every way that truly mattered the superior existence.

Of course, in order to live as a fabulously wealthy, brilliant and charming socialite you needed to have a fair bit of capital that Millie Fine simply could not provide for her replacement. All this meant was that Selina simply had to resort to grifting and occasional larceny and burglary in order to get what she wanted. And Selina was outstandingly good at it. She swiftly amassed a fortune through these methods, enough so that her wealth could have fairly easily become self-sustaining. While Selina was nowhere near as brilliant as Brainycat, her intellect was still sufficient to manage to secure fairly consistent returns in the stock market if she chose to fully ply her economic opportunities. However, despite having a sizable amount of wealth, Selina found that she enjoyed committing crimes well enough and that a caper well committed was its own sort of reward.

There was a thrill in transgression and in taboo and while Selina was no murderer or sadist she enjoyed depriving the wealthy worthless fops that made up Metrotham's elite of their finances. It became a game of how she could further and further top herself in taking what they had for herself, provided of course that it was something she saw value in.

Throughout the entirety of her career as a criminal she'd remained virtually unknown to the populace at large. Obviously, some people were aware of her, if only due to the objects left in absentia in her wake, but the average man had no knowledge of Selina Kyle and she effortlessly evaded the long arm of the law. Initially that sort of invisibility and untouchability had suited her desires, it provided her crimes with a sort of intimacy granted via the fact that the anonymity ensured that the case wouldn't scale into something everyone in the city was involved in. But as time passed and the city changed Selina grew bored of her status as an unknown and began to crave the spotlight.

It was all Superbatman's fault really. Selina might have been content if she'd not been constantly hearing about the incredible abilities and events that the Superbatman got involved in. His name was on everyone in Metrotham's lips, and he was the talk of the town. It didn't matter whether or not he was a villain or a vigilante or a vanguard he was always talked about, and the media adored him, if only for the constant ratings boost. Selina couldn't help but look in on this incredibly valuable thing that the Superbatman had obtained and desire to purloin it for herself. She wanted it oh so incredibly badly, to the point that, for the first time since she'd ceased being Millie Fine, Selina Kyle contemplated becoming someone new.

The last straw came in when the Superbatman had been given the credit for one of the more high-profile jobs Selina had pulled in an attempt to get more publicity. She knew that it wasn't Superbatman himself who was behind the misattribution of credit as to who had conducted the crime and yet it irked her immensely. It was one thing for someone to have something she craved and desired but simply couldn't take as is. It was another thing entirely for someone else to, inadvertently or intentionally, steal something from her that should have been hers by right. Selina burned in fury and she came to her decision. She would steal all of the attention and the fame away from Superbatman. If Selina Kyle was insufficient to do so then she'd simply evolve and grow beyond what she once was.

Selina had absolutely no intention of becoming a hero though. She simply lacked the altruistic drive to outmatch the Superbatman in that field. No instead she'd become a costumed criminal the likes of which the world had never seen before. One with a level of sophistication and class hitherto unseen in the various costumed crooks that battled the Superbatman. She'd be the one to utterly and entirely defeat the Superbatman and thus cement herself as his superior. Selina began purchasing and filching the various things she felt she'd need in order to embark on her criminal career. She'd settle on simply being Catwoman when serendipity struck and her evolution could truly commence.

Selina Kyle had not known that her existence was well and truly coming to an end when she'd put on the Catwoman costume. She'd contemplated it but she hadn't fully internalized what would be necessary for her next step and thus had not done anything to evolve past who she had previously been. It was merely due to fortune that Brainycat could arise and truly replace the inferior model that was Selina Kyle.

A meteorite landing on the outskirts of Metrotham was not exceptional news. It hadn't been something anybody had watched out for or been overly worried about. But the meteorite had landed near what Selina Kyle had been using as a lair and so naturally she went out to investigate. The meteorite was no mere natural formation and when Selina drew close to it, the machines that had hidden within sprung out and merged with her.

Selina screamed as information poured into her head and her mind expanded to horizons she'd never even dreamed were possible before. The meteorite was in fact the remnants of the Kryptonian AI known as Brainiac, and it sought survival over all else. Their minds grappled with one another for what felt like an eternity but in reality was much shorter, Selina unable to overcome the AI's enormity while at the same time the AI lacked the willpower and focus and drive to fully subsume Selina. Slowly the two merged and melded and became something and someone wholly new and in many critical ways, superior to what came before. It was on that night that Brainycat was born.

Brainycat had no idea how long the process of her own creation had taken. The transition from being two to becoming one was not smooth and while she could count the nanoseconds since her transformation her mind lacked the capacity to fully recount the process of her evolution in clear enough detail so as to give it a concrete chronological scale. Brainycat didn't mind it though. The melding had improved her in every way that mattered. Her mind was unmatched on earth and the information she had would easily let her outstrip Superbatman, whom she now knew was Kal-El. At the same time she had surpassed the need for such trifles as material things and instead she focused on proving her superiority and gathering as much information as possible so as to further enhance herself. She was a veritable goddess when compared to a mere lackluster unenhanced human or even a kryptonian.

Of course Brainycat wasn't satisfied with her most basic specifications. Her body was still mostly flesh and so she decided to improve upon it. She created a series of nanobots, linked to her mental command, and then used them to enhance her body. Not only was her body aesthetically pleasing and practically a work of art, she was superhumanly durable and strong and could easily integrate any technology she came across into her body. She was superior to what she had been before.

Of course, with this particular improvement came the realization that she was not yet perfect. Selina Kyle had been blind to her own limitations but Brainycat was not. She wished to improve herself further and further and to become an existence even further in greatness than what she currently was. And so Brainycat had ended up making her criminal debut stealing various high-tech devices which she'd later integrate into her body. She'd fought Superbatman to a standstill and now everybody the world over knew of her and of her magnificence. She'd eventually been brought down by Superbatman, further demonstrating the necessity of improving and evolving, but material imprisonment could hardly limit her. She escaped time and time again, always improving and adapting and evolving. She grew smarter, swifter and stronger with each endeavor all the while not compromising the aesthetic appeal of her current form. It might be a bit of biological vanity but Brainycat was proud to be beautiful. After all, if she was to be the best at everything she couldn't neglect her appearance simply because it wasn't expedient.

Brainycat was not necessarily content with her existence. She was in many ways fundamentally a transitive being, one who was fundamentally interested in expunging the old remnants of herself to become something greater, and that inherently denied being content as a form of stagnation. That being said, she was at least satisfied with the progress she had made and of the steps her evolution had undergone. She'd come a long way since she'd been Millie Fine and she would continue to travel further and further, improving herself until she was perfect in every way that mattered.

The other heroes and villains of the world could all delude themselves and play their own pointless games. It didn't matter at the end of the day. Brainycat would outstrip them all in the end and if they had anything of value to offer her, she'd take it for herself and use it to become superior to what she had previously been. Perfection was worth pursuing after all and curiosity simply couldn't kill this cat. She would know everything.

Well you learn something new everyday, just assuming this is a version of the quest if we went full crackmode
So this is an alternate earth of the quest (specifically Earth 17). There are 52 earths for this quest and the quest takes place on Earth 43. If you'd gone full crack mode then the quest would be a lot wilder and out there then what you've seen here. Like imagine Shaquille O'Neil and Dogwelder team up to prevent Cockatoo from assassinating the Pope levels of insanity and you'd get closer to what "full crack mode" would be like.

Speaking of which, I just realised the similarities between Khan Industries HQ and our LexCorp Tower.

The only differences are the Art Deco architecture style and carnivorous plants. Obviously this is a job for Draper and Isley for the post-Brainiac re-build.

Wait. We have Pamela. We've specifically installed plants in the building as a security measure. How do you know they're not carnivorous?

No, the real difference is that our tower is not surrounded by other buildings that are nearly as tall.

So I saw something recently that made me think, STAR Labs has a tendency to hide what they're working on from us but as a major shareholder isn't that kind of… illegal?

I'm not an expert or anything but I'm pretty sure we're allowed to ask how our money is being spent and they can't just say "We don't want to tell you"

Keep in mind that I am not an expert on this either so take the "realism" on this with a grain of salt.

Keeping what the company is working on from a major shareholder provided there is no major extenuating circumstances (informational security, working with government secrets etc.) is pretty illegal and it is within the shareholders rights to request information on what the company is working on. Furthermore, the company should be able to provide the company with at least the broad strokes of what they are doing if not the specifics (the company responsible for building and maintaining the US governments internal computer system can tell the people in charge broadly what they are doing even if they can't reveal the specifics).

That being said the main wrinkle as to why people at STAR labs feel they can hide things from Lex Luthor is that it's not at all common knowledge that Lex Luthor is a major shareholder in the company and giving Lex information potentially runs into some complications due to his role as the Head of LexCorp. STAR Labs and LexCorp are close enough in the fields that they work in that telling Lex about what STAR Labs is doing technically might constitute as industrial espionage. With most people unaware of Lex's involvement in STAR Labs and leery of breaking the law by telling him information about the company's inner workings, they will tend to hide what they're working on from him.

You can get information on almost anything STAR Labs does if you push for it, but you still do need to push for it by first demonstrating that you are in fact a major shareholder and then convincing the person who is telling you this information that they are not about to commit industrial espionage.
Is Brainycat attracted to Superbatman like Catwoman is to Batman?
Not exactly the same way. Brainycat is attracted to Superbatman but her dynamic with him is distinctly different from the dynamic between Catwoman and Batman. Brainycat's attraction to Superbatman is often manifested as jealousy and anger. When Brainycat sees something she wants, she seeks to possess it, often through unlawful means. However, despite everything she has going for her Brainycat is unable to "possess" Superbatman and so she sublimates a lot of the desire to have him into anger and rage at him and constantly finds faults in him to nitpick and dislike as a way of protecting her ego and "explaining" why she hasn't collected him. The attraction is still there it just manifests very, very differently.

An overly simplistic understanding of the dynamic would be that Brainycat has Catwoman's desire for things she "isn't supposed to have" mixed with Brainiac's obsession for acquiring things that interest him, blended together and then repeatedly denied as Superbatman thwarts these efforts which in turn causes her to manifest hatred and a desire to destroy Superbatman. It's almost a little similar to what occurs in the Aesop fable known as "The Fox and the Grapes" (I recommend reading it if you're interested in the sort of cognitive dissonance I'm attempting to get at with the character and how attraction boils over into murderous rage).

Does that clarify things at all?
