[X] Ask him more questions
-[X] Can you fill us in on what happened before we got here?
Squirming a bit under the sudden unwanted attention, you do your best to redirect the conversation.
"Erm. I wanted to ask... what happened here? Why where those men..." you do your best to not look at the corpse nearby. Even thinking about it makes you sick. "... after you?"
"Those... those ruffians were after my precious collection! Stole most of it, even! And when I decided to leave for Ylisstol, start over, all that, they followed me! Just for the last remaining piece! Shameful, shameful I tell you!"
Somehow, you have trouble imagining this old man having something not only worth stealing, but also worth following around. And he seemed quite prone to exaggeration, surely this was another display? Yet, you think, he was attacked by bandits. And there's still the matter of what drew you there in the first place... Beside you, Gaius doesn't seem to share your uncertainty, looking at him with open scepticism.
"Huh huh. Let me guess, they stole your common sense."
"How dare you!" the other man shrieks. "Ah, I see! You want to steal my treasure, like the others! This is a ploy to lower my guard, isn't it?"
"Unless it is edible, I have no interest in whatever junk you own, trust me."
"Well you should! My artefacts hold a magic like the world has never seen! But I suppose those wonders means nothing for one such as you."
He... has trouble making up his own mind, doesn't he? The thought barely has time to register that the man whirls toward you, almost coming face to face with you. On the side, you can see Gaius tensing at the sudden move, a hand on the handle of his weapon, but the other man seems entirely oblivious to the threat.
"Unlike this girl, I think. I can see it now! You have... the Gift!"
You only manage to let out a nervous "Huh?", utterly uncomfortable with the sudden invasion of your personal space.
"Well, I mean, the Inner Eye! Or was it just Fate? I don't know, doesn't matter. You know?"
In fact, you don't, staring at him with a confused expression mimicked by Gaius. He is the first t gather his bearings, clearly fed up with the whole thing.
"Okaaaaay. Well, it was great fun, and all, but we really need to get going, so..."
"Wait wait wait! This meeting was Destiny! Fate! This is why I can't let you leave without this!"
His hand briefly disappears in his robes, only to come back holding a...
"A card?"
"Ah, but not just any card! It is an invaluable artefact, holding a magic lost to the world! earning to use it shall be challenging, but I am certain you might unlock the secrets of the Einherjar, in time!"
He holds the item to you, and you grab it almost instinctively, still utterly confused by his speech. Gaius, for his part, sounds pretty sceptical.
"Riiight. And you're handing it to a random kid because...?"
"Look, I almost got killed just because I had it. And I might be old, but I still intend to live a long, long time still, so really, this is of no value to me! Now, if it was a female one, that would have been different, of course. But anyway! You girl! This is what you felt, isn't it?"
Blinking, you give another look to the card, and realize he is right. There is a strange power coming through this simple item, you can feel it. Examining it, you see a picture representing a warrior clad in blue, wielding... wait, is that Falchion? The crossguard is all wrong, but the blade... You've seen it enough to recognize your father's sword. At the bottom of the picture, you find a legend : Marth the Hero King. So this is what the legendary hero looked like? You look up to ask some questions... only to find the man gone. Gaius is utterly confused.
"How did he... he was just there!"
The next ten minutes are spent looking for your vanishing host, without success. Finally giving up, Gaius decides that is enough emotions for one evening, and escorts you back to the palace.
"So, the way I see it, there's no need to tell your dad that you got a dagger pointed at your belly, right, Little Blue?"
You nod. Something tells you that you'd find your freedom of movement quite restricted if your parents were made aware of everything that happened tonight. You weren't really hurt anyway - that's the moment your bruised ribs chose to remind you of their presence - so it should be all good, right?
"Strange fellow, though. Completely crazy, of course. Well, at least you'll have a souvenir, right?"
Right. You examine the card one more time. Somehow, you're almost sure he had been right saying this wasn't just a piece of paper...

Last year had been... busy, to say the least. And you have no reason to expect this one not to be either. And between your sword lessons, your new wyverns and the various personal projects you undertook, you feel like there's barely enough hours in the day to do everything you'd like. Your constant running from one place to another leaves people impressed with your energy, if slightly worried you might be overdoing it.

Pick seven actions :
[] Ask for new teachers : you don't have anything against lady Armelle and sir Ogham, really, you don't. But those tutors, appointed in your parents absence, have trouble keeping your attention. Maybe you could ask if someone else would be available to teach you?
[] The Way of the Sword : with Lon'qu finally used to your presence, you feel like you might begin to make real progress in your training with him. The only difficulty, at this point, would be to find enough time for it.
[] To the limits : so far, your training with Frederick has paid off. You can feel yourself growing stronger, bit by bit. At this point, that feeling of progression is enough to keep you going, despite the fatigue. Lisa warned you not to overdo it, though.
[] Strategy 101 : lessons with Uncle Robin has been an eye-opener. Your father might be one of the best swordsman in the world, but that would not have been enough to win wars if it was all. Learning about the art of warfare definitely sounds like a worthwhile endeavour...
[] Tomes of magic : magic certainly seems to play a larger role in your life as of late. You already know a bit about healing, but what about the other forms? Maybe you should look into it.
[] Meditate on the presence at the shrine : you might have imagined it. But you're almost certain there was... something, at the shrine. Spending more time here might help find the truth on this matter... And assisting Libra is always a pleasure anyway.
[] Spend time in the library : your first foray in Ylisstol's library had been a fascinating experience, and you suspect there is still a lot more you can learn from its tomes. Who knows how much knowledge you can still dig up from it?
[] Any specific topic in mind? (no extra action)
[] Spend time in the stables : between your mother and Cherche's lessons, you have become more eager to learn about the best ways to care about animals these last weeks. And what better way to learn than to spend time with them? Well, it would be pretty strenuous, probably.
[] Train with the pegasus knights novices : the pegasus knights are without a doubt the finest flying unit in the world. And you finally reached a level where both your mother and Cordelia think you might hang out sometimes with their greenest recruits. You'd still be at least four years younger than any trainee, but it might be a precious experience.
[] Spear lessons with Cordelia : your flying lessons went pretty well, but you admit, you'd be interested to learn more about the martial aspect of aerial combat, something Cynthia showed little taste for until now. But you get the feeling aunt Cordelia would be more than happy to help in this matter.
[] Let Cu get used to your presence : your new wyvern barely knows you at this point. If you are to create a bond with her similar to the one existing between Cherche and Minerva, a lot of time will be needed to be around her. Perhaps you should ask for fireproof clothes...
[] Study the mysterious card : this clearly isn't an ordinary item, you're sure of it. Still, you have no idea what it might actually do... More research might be needed in this case.
[] Investigate Noire's condition : that's twice now that you found your friend coming back to the shrine in a frightening state. And Libra claimed black magic was the cause. You need to get to the bottom of this, somehow.
[] Double down on your lessons : studying is one thing, but things worth doing are worth doing well.
[] Sword training (Ylissean royal style)
[] History and customs of Ylisse
[] Etiquette lessons
[] Spend time with the other children : you try to keep in touch with everyone still in Ylisstol, but your busy schedule often leaves you with less time than you'd like. Still, your friends are worth the effort, you think.
[] Owain
[] Severa
[] Kjelle
[] Brady
[] Yarne
[] Noire
[] Laurent
[] Cynthia
[] Write-in : thinking hard about it, maybe there's something else you could do?
[] Special - slack off : some of these lessons are... hard to bear. Surely no-one would mind if you were to take it easy on some of them? Or even miss them? (doesn't take a choice, but instead gives one extra choice or each lesson you pick with this option.)
[] Check on Severa's progress : you're pretty curious to know how Severa is doing with Gregor. Unfortunately, her lessons are scheduled at the same time of some of your own studies, meaning that to satiate your curiosity, you'd have to miss a class...

As another year of dreadfully monotone lessons is about to begin, you decide that something has to change. You come to your parents, praising the good work your current tutors have done with you, before suggesting that maybe it is time for a change of pace. It is your belief, you explain, that you should be exposed to new styles of education - and that has nothing to do with the fact that you might find your current teachers incredibly boring. Because you're not thinking that, of course, ah ah ah, what are you even talking about. Father and Mother roll their eyes, but say they'll consider it.
After a week, as you ready yourself for another history session with sir Ogham, you have the surprise to see lady Maribelle entering the room in his stead. She sends an inquisitive look your way, as if trying to gauge you, before wasting no time announcing she will carry over his previous duties, as well as those of Lady Armelle. When you express surprise at the fact she might substitute herself to two people at once, she points out that ensuring that the next Exalt would receive a proper education is a task deserving of some time, and that her current duties in the Ylissean magistrature are manageable enough for her to take that extra charge. She's confident in her efficiency, at the very least.
It very quickly appears that her lessons will go at a very different pace than what you were used to. While your previous tutors were content with you meeting average expectations, Maribelle asks nothing less than your very best. "I understand that you feel those lessons less stimulating than your more physical activities", she says, "but a great ruler must know more than simply waving a sword around." Then what about your father, you ask? Her reply is carefully chosen.
"Your father did indeed prove his quality as a ruler, and I am proud to call him my Exalt. But, as you might remember, he was not expected to ascend to the throne, and had the position thrust upon him due to tragic circumstances. As such, his education might be... lacking in some areas. He manages fine, of course, but that is no reason for you to neglect the finer points of leadership. A lot is expected from you, and I have no doubt you will be up to the task ; and it is my belief children should do their best to surpass their parents."
Very quickly, you realize that not only Maribelle has far higher standards than your previous tutors, but she's intent on teaching you a lot more too. Your history lessons are coupled with the study of Ylissean laws and politics, while the etiquette classes serve as an introduction to the finer points of diplomacy. This is a challenging pace, but as Maribelle anticipated, you respond well to what you perceive as a challenge. You struggle to meet her expectations, but you put in more efforts than you ever did with your previous teachers. And while those lessons lack the sheer satisfaction of sword training, you find yourself enjoying Maribelle sharp wits and even sharper tongue. One thing is certain, you don't have time to be bored anymore.

[X] The Way of the Sword
Still, you don't neglect your training with a blade, far from it. After the close call during your excursion in Ylisstol with Gaius, you are more determined than ever to learn how to defend yourself, and throw yourself at the training mannequins with a renewed fervour. In fact, maybe with a bit too much of it, if your first broken training sword is anything to go by. Chrom only laughs at the incident, though, saying this reminds him of his younger years. Your father finally deems you ready for some light sparring together, and while he is clearly holding back, and seems somewhat inconvenienced by his limp - a souvenir from an assassination attempt, he says, the same one that claimed your aunt's life - you quickly realize why he's considered one of the finest blades of the Realms. It is clear that you still have a long way to go... but you'll get there, you know it.
At the same time, your training with Lon'qu has also become a lot more productive. The Feroxi champion is now more involved in your education, even if he still maintains a certain amount of distance between you two most of the time. You also get more chances to observe his form, comparing it with what you remember of Say'ri's. The Chon'sin princess looked more fluid in her moves, while the swordmaster from Ferox looks more direct in his style. But both share a total commitment to the way of the sword, displaying a focus you wish to emulate. The Chon'sin style is less physically demanding than your father's style, but ask for a constant concentration, every lapse in your mental discipline resulting in an immediate mistake.
Learning two styles at once is also a difficult endeavour, but switching from one to another comes more and more naturally. And you can't help but wonder if there would be a way to combine the best of those two schools. Achieving that, however, might be difficult ; neither your father nor Lon'qu have more than a passing understanding of the other's style, so you'd probably be on your own to integrate moves from one school to another, and you still lack experience in both to begin with. Still, this is something that might be worth looking into.

[X] Strategy 101
After your first introduction to the world of tactics, Robin is now drilling you in the basics. You're also not alone in these lessons, Laurent being too in attendance. The tactician claims it is more efficient to teach both at once - especially given his limited amount of free time - and none of you have any objection to that. You're soon learning everything there is to know about what is needed to keep an army running, what are the usual strategies given the usual scenarios a fighting force might face, how to take advantage of any given terrain... It is no use, Robin. They will all die like the rest. Why do you insist on giving them false hopes?
The presence of Laurent also means you now have another partner to play strategy games with. Which is good, because while you still haven't given up of defeating Robin... eventually, having an opponent closer to your level is, at this point, a breath of fresh air. You still lose more than you win, but at least you're facing someone who has to actually put in an effort to win. It is also a good way to connect with Miriel's son, who's probably the closest to you in terms of temperament. Though you really don't mind your other friends... quirks, there is something reassuring speaking to someone close to your age with the same serious attitude.

[X] Investigate Noire's condition
The sight of your friend barely left standing really made an impression on you. If there's any way you can help, then that is what you need to do. However, you're not quite sure where to start ; Libra clearly does not want to involve you, so you probably will have to find your answers elsewhere. But for that, you need to examine your options...
[] Ask Noire directly : she seems reluctant to talk, but surely you can persuade her, eventually. You're trying to help her, right? [] Look up the symptoms in the library : Libra admitted Noire's sickness was due to dark magic. Surely something in the palace library might help you find what was done exactly, and eventually find the culprit on your own. - [] Do it by yourself
- [] Ask for someone's help (who?)
[] Write-in
Random event : unexpected free time
Lady Maribelle was recalled to her family estates with a last minute notice, forcing her to cancel your lessons for the day. That leaves you with an opportunity to check up on one of your friends. You don't know what most of them have been up to lately...

You decide to use your newfound freedom to find your cousin. You're uncertain where to look at first, but fortunately, he never is very hard to find : you just have to follow his voice. Sure as day, you find him in the gardens, in the middle of an argument with Cynthia, in what you can only assume was yet another of their games carried a bit too far.
"... believe you'd say that about my sword hand!"
"It's just you waving your arm around!"
"Blasphemy! Guided by its unrelenting spirit, I, the Dark Avenger of Justice, shall defeat the mightiest heroes of this land!"
"Yeah? Well, I'm pretty sure Lucy could beat you up."
"Nonsense! As I walk through the fires of Hell, I shall remain unvanquished until my final destiny is finally fullfilled!"
"Nuh uh!"
"Yuh uh!"
"Nuh uh plus infinity!"
Well, it seems any attempt at eloquence has been quickly discarded. Tilting your head, you finally make your presence known.
"Um, what are you doing?"
The two of them look at you, before doing their best to raise their voices above each other while pointing fingers.
"He just mocked Beano and his kind of heroes are dumb and he's the worst!"
"She has no appreciation for dramatic flair and is dragging the Justice Cabal's name in the mud!"
"I so do not!"
You decide to quickly intervene before the argument fully resume. The two of them usually get along pretty well, but apparently, today is one of those days.
"Actually, I was looking for you, Owain. I'm sorry I got so busy those last months, but I seem to remember that I owe you a spar?"
Owain's face morph into an enthusiastic smile, and even Cynthia seems to perk up at your words, their previous frustration put aside.
"Really? Great! Let me get my training sword!"
And off he goes. Sometimes, you really envy his energy. You start to walk toward the training grounds, followed by your sister. While she still display little interest in learning how to fight herself, she seems to always enjoy watching. No doubt those moments remind her of those fight scenes she enjoys so much in her books. And today, you suspect she might really look forward seeing you knock your cousin on his rear. Well... you suppose that as an older sister, you have a duty to please. Finally, you two reach the dueling area, and you don't have to wait long until Owain arrives.
"All right! This is going to be awesome!"
You smile at his enthusiasm, before picking up your wooden sword, swinging it once for a sense of balance before assuming your stance. As you ready yourself, Owain slowly draws his own blade in a slow, calculated motion.
"I always knew it would come to this, cousin! I, Owain Dark, shall show you that his destiny won't be so easily stopped!"
You blink, trying to figure out what destiny has to do with anything here. Behind you, you can hear Cynthia screeching "Your name is not Owain Dark!", which you think is also a good point.
"Behold, the peerless avenger! The scion of heroes will face the incarnation of evil without fear, for it is his duty to ward the world against such peril!"
Is... Is he calling you evil? That's a little rude, you think. Your sister seems to share that opinion, if her indignant "You take that back!" is any indication. From her tone, she seems almost ready to jump in the field herself. As for you, you only throw a cool gaze his way.
"I already said I'd take your challenge head on. Don't make me wait."
Charisma C- vs Charisma D. The Scion of Heroes stares at a dreadful foe!
For an instant, Owain's composure seems to waver, before his usual grin returns once more.
"I see. You truly are a fearsome adversary, cousin! Very well then, no more words. Have at thee!"
And with that, he springs forward with surprising speed. You nonetheless manage to bring your sword against his in time, the two wooden blades echoing through the courtyard. Very quickly, the two of you exchange a series of blows, testing each other's defenses.
Swords C vs Swords D+
Chon'sin style D- vs Chon'sin style D+. With burning resolve, the Dark Avenger keeps on fighting!
As expected from Lon'qu's son, his swordmanship is rather impressive. He is also more familiar with his fighting style, presumably having trained in it since the beginning. Still, as the two of you find your rhythm, you feel rather confident. He's not the only one to have trained extensively with the blade, and you're beginning to realize you have another advantage on him.
Dexterity C+ vs Dexterity C-. Shall the Flame of Justice be extinguished today? Nay!
You make another parry, shoving his blade away, and he almost tumble before steadying himself. As you press forward, Owain steps back, trying to avoid being overwhelmed by the pressure you're beginning to put in your strikes. You follow, not giving him time to recover. He is fast, faster than Kjelle, without any doubt. But you're still more than a match for him in that domain.
"Ah! I must commend your skills, cousin! Have it your way, then! I shall now use my full power!"
Intelligence D vs Bluff C-. The Hero finds his second wind! The real battle starts now!
His exclamation makes you hesitate for an instant. He was holding back? You avoid a wide swing, trying to prepare for what's to come. And just like that, the rhythm of the fight changes entirely. Owain's strikes are becoming more and more unpredictable, making your guesses on his next moves that much harder. You don't recognize the style, but this looks like nothing Lon'qu would have taught him! This time, it is your turn to yield ground, trying to make sense of those new moves, full of jumps, twirls and... and did he just switch his sword of hand mid-fight?! That's beyond reckless!
"Behold! Secret sword art technique! Radiant Blade!"
You parry a blow that for all intents and purpose is just a normal strike, just made while shouting a fancy name. And where does he find the breath to shout mid-battle, anyway? You jump over an attempt to sweep your leg, Up, low, left, right, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to his attacks, who keep coming one after another. You need a new plan. At this rate...
Strength C- vs Strength D
Endurance D+ vs Endurance D. The Dark Lord still has some fight in her! However, the Chosen One won't yield!
Foregoing any attempt at elegance, you literally rams into Owain, shoving him back. The move is rather unconventional, but it does manage to break the tempo of his incessant attacks. And while his technique is hard to deal with when he's on the offensive, it struggles to hold up when put on the defensive. You turn every clash of blades into a contest of strength, putting your trust in Frederick's training to gain the upper hand. And you suppose being a year older helps too.
"You're... hah... pretty good! But this isn't over! Hidden blade form..."
Style switch : Ylissean Royal Style D+. … Urk!
This time, you don't let him finish, driving your sword directly into his gut, knocking the air out of him, before striking his arm, sending his sword flying. The next instant, he finds himself on his back, with you standing over him. Bth of you are sweating and breathing hard, but still. Not as bad as Frederick Fitness Day, you think.
"I... I don't want to sound too presumptuous, but maybe you shouldn't talk this much during a fight?"
Despite his position, he flashes you a grin.
"Absurd! It only means I need more training with talking and fighting at the same time!"
"Well, I'd be curious to see if you can make it work. Well fought!"
Truth be told, you hadn't expected him to give you this much trouble. It is a helpful reminder that your friends aren't standing idle either. You wonder how Kjelle and Severa are doing... As you turn away to put your sword back on its rack, you suddenly hear a loud exclamation.
"Ahah! An opening!"
Before you can react, you find yourself tackled to the ground by your cousin, any pretence at sword fighting clearly forgotten.
"What the... Owain! Get off me!"
"Never turn your back on an enemy while on a battlefield! Every hero should know that!"
"It's not a battlefield, and you're not an enemy! Cut it... Wait, don't you dare!"
While still struggling to get up – damn him, but he's heavy! - he begins to poke you in the ribs. No doubt Cynthia – the traitor! - told him that you were rather ticklish here, a secret you did your best to keep from public knowledge. As you feel a laugh rising from your mouth despite your best efforts to hold it back, you can't help but think that this is bad.
Your salvation comes in the form of a blue blur. Cynthia valiantly throws herself to your rescue, earning back your favours despite leaking critical informations to potential hostile forces. She is quite lighter than Owain, but has momentum on her side, pushing your cousin out of the way.
"Leave my sister alone, you big meanie!"
Not one to let such a golden opportunity pass, you join her in tackling Owain to the ground, paying no heed to his -hypocritical, really – protests.
"Hey, two against one is unfair!"
"Tell that to enemies on a battlefield!"
A few minutes of playful wrestling later, the three of you are laughing hard on the ground. Your clothes are covered in dust, your hair are a mess, but right now, there's no other place in the world you'd rather be.
Relations with Owain improved
Experience gained when facing an opponent using the Wandering Hero's style
[X] Look up the symptoms in the library : Libra admitted Noire's sickness was due to dark magic. Surely something in the palace library might help you find what was done exactly, and eventually find the culprit on your own.
- [X] Ask for someone's help (Henry)
You decide not to confront Noire directly. You know she can be pretty skittish, and you don't want her to feel unconfortable. Plus, there's no guarantee she'd ever know who would want to curse her. Fortunately, you have another method. All you need is to look up the symptoms at the library, find out exactly what was cast on your friend, and then find out who could have done it! It's a pretty simple plan, but you're confident this will work.
You quickly run into an obstacle, though : namely, the fact that you don't know much about magic in general, and even less about dark magic. And as you quickly find out, the number of curses devised through the ages are... numerous. Seriously, you found at least twenty designed to give the target a running nose. You can't help but think maybe dark mages have too much free time.
… though maybe you can use that. You know at least one dark mage who doesn't seem to be up to much most of the time. You can't say you know Henry well, but he's a Shepherd, which means your father trusts him, and the few times you saw him, he seemed... nice? You guess? You distinctly remember him smiling, at least. Really, how bad can it be?
You almost need an entire day to find him. The plegian mage is surprisingly elusive, and you finally manage to locate him on a rather improbable place : sitting on the roof of the palace, apparently talking to... birds? Probably a spell, you think. Actually, that one sounds really useful. But first things first.
"Umm, sir Henry? Might I ask for your help?"
The white-haired man turns toward you, a smile on his face.
"Hey, you're Sumia's kid, right?"
You nod, quietly thinking how it is rather unusual for people to associate you with your mother first. People usually talk about your father a lot more.
"I knew it! You kind of look like her, you know. Just more blue."
First Gaius, now him? You're not blue! … you just like the colour, is all. Anyway! Focus, Lucina!
"So, what is it about? Don't worry, us dark mages love to help others! Nyah ah ah!"
Despite the reassuring words, you can't help but feel a shiver down your spine. And somehow, from up close, his smile seems a bit... off? You begin to think this wasn't such a good idea after all, but still, you carry on. This isn't about you, this is about Noire.
"Umm... you see, I have a friend..."
"Good for you!"
"... thanks? But... I think someone cast a curse on her."
"I'm almost sure it wasn't me! Haven't cursed someone in months! Actually, maybe I should do it more often, I might lose my touch..."
"... I didn't think it was you?"
As you said those words, you suddenly realize how disastrous this meeting would have been if it had been him. The thought never occurred to you, but he is a dark mages, and there's not many in Ylisse, from what you know. Still, he's a Shepherd, so surely he's trustworthy... right?
"Ah, you want to find who did, right? That's pretty caw-mendable!"
He said the word wrong, you're almost sure. Nonetheless, he seems ready to help, which is all you can ask for. Before long, the two of you are in the library, as you're doing your best to describe the symptoms you saw, comparing them with some notes Henry points out. While he's... rather eccentric, it quickly becomes clear that he knows what he is talking about when it comes to dark magic – even if his insistence to know if any of your friend's symptom had anything to do with blood was pretty worrying. Finally, after an hour of interrogation, the dark mage grins.
"Hey, that actually sounds like the Heiderich Hex! Man, it seems like Tharja is having fun!"
"... lady Tharja?"
It doesn't make sense. Surely he can't be talking about the Tharja you know, right? Sure, from what little you saw of her, she seems rather scary, but she's a Shepherd! She's... she's Noire's mother! Why would she ever do something like that?!
"Well, she loves that hex, that much I can tell you. And it's a pretty rare one, too, so I don't think there'd be another dark mage around here who would cast it. Though I suppose you never know, nyah ah ah!"
You think you're going to be sick. This...this is far worse than anything you could have imagined.
"But... why? Why would she do something like that? I mean, Noire's her daughter!"
Henry only shrugs, his smile still firmly in place. How can he still smile?
"Dunno. I don't have kids, so I don't know about it, but maybe this is normal?"
"It's not!"
"No? Then I'm sure Tharja had an hex-ellent reason. She's pretty smart, after all!"
He said the word wrong again, but you don't care about that. An excellent reason?! What kind of reason would justify putting Noire out of comission twice – maybe more?- in a few months? You... you don't know what to do.
[] Talk to your father about it : he'll know what to do. He always know what to do. Right? [] Confront Tharja directly : she's maybe the only one with answers. The prospect of facing her fills you with dread, but if it's for Noire... [] Ask Noire about the situation : maybe your friend can tell you more. You're not sure she'll talk at all, but maybe she can explain? [] Write-in
The turn results will be included once the current... situation is resolved. If Tharja doesn't kill you, of course!
Hope I did a good job with Owain; writing him is fun, at the very least!
You spend all night thinking about your options. It would be a lot simpler to let your father handle it... But it doesn't feel right, somehow. This is something you have to see through, and for that... there's no choice. You have to talk to Tharja directly. It is a rather terrifying prospect, to be honest. You remember the woman having a rather scary aura back then, and that was before you knew any of this. And if she'd go as far as cursing her own daughter, what might she do to you? You admonish yourself. You can't back down now! This is to help Noire! … still, maybe you should write a will. Just in case.
The next morning, you gather every ounce of courage you can find, and walk toward the dark mage's apartments. As you stand in front of the door, you swear you can feel a heavy atmosphere coming from inside. Judging from the low mutterings you can hear, Tharja is apparently home. A pity ; you had half hoped she wouldn't. Before your nerves fail you, you knock. You hear an exasperated groan, the door swings open, and you find yourself face to face with Noire's mother.
"What is it this ti... Hm? What are you doing here, brat?"
Her tone is filled with annoyance. She doesn't sound really angry... yet. Taking a deep breath, you speak.
"Lady Tharja, I'd like to talk to you about your daughter."
"If you want to play with her, she's busy. Now go away, I'm busy too."
The tone is dismissive, and she already begins to close the door, until you step forward, putting your foot down to prevent it. Tharja's eyes narrow at your sudden act of defiance, her expression becoming thunderous. You do your best to ignore the pit in your stomach and stand straight, voice as firm as you can manage.
"I'm afraid I can't do that. It is with you that I want to talk."
She still seems angry, but also a little bit curious. At the very least, she stops trying to forcibly close the door, giving you time to say your piece. You decide it is probably better to not dance around the subject.
"I know you used hexes on Noire. At least twice, probably more."
There. Tharja's face is hard to read, and for a moment, you hope that she'll deny it, that this was just a big misunderstanding. Then she sighs.
"Tsk. Libra talks too much, it seems."
Your stomach drop. Those words are akin to a confession, as far as you're concerned. Finding that you spouted false accusations against the mother of your friend would have been terrible, but you'd have endured the mortification if it meant that your fears about Noire's health were unfounded. Now though, it seems like everything was true.
"Sir Libra didn't tell me anything. I saw Noire for myself and looked up the symptoms."
A half-truth, at best. Libra was the one to point toward dark magic, and you'd never have suspected Tharja if not for Henry. Still, you do not wish for them to be targeted by her wrath. Tharja most likely realizes there's more to your story than what you just told, but in the end, how you found out doesn't really matter.
"Hm. So what of it?"
Your eyes widen at the casualness of her tone. Does she really not see why you'd object to that? Your previous fear begin to make way for another emotion : anger.
"What of... you hurt her! She's your daughter!"
Tharja only crosses her arms, clearly unimpressed by your growing outrage.
"Bah. How is it different than your own training with your father? I imagine you got your fair share of bruises."
You grit your teeth. How dares she?! There's nothing in common between the two situations!
"Father never hurt me! And even if he was to accidentally do so, training with him was my own will! You never gave Noire a choice, did you?"
"The way I raise my daughter is of no concern to you, little girl."
You can see her own anger rising, but right now, you're too furious to care. In fact, you don't remember ever being this angry at someone. Your shoulders are shaking at this point, and your expression is little more than a snarl.
"Noire is my friend! I won't stand by and let her be hurt!"
Tharja's scowl is now mirroring your own, and you can feel the air becoming heavier around her. Magic? Truth be told, you're past caring at this point.
"I won't be lectured by a naive, ignorant girl on matters she knows nothing about. If you think..."
A new voice interrupts her angry retort.
"Mother, what is happening? I heard shouts... Lucina?!"
Behind the two of you stands Noire, a stupefied expression on her face. She looks well enough, you note with some relief, but you can tell seeing the two of you in the middle of an argument has her extremely nervous. Truth be told, you had hoped to not involve her, you know she tends to shy away from conflicts. Still, there was nothing you could do about it now. Tharja seems nonplussed by her daughter's intervention, only sniffing in annoyance.
"Your annoying friend seems to object on how I train you. I expected you to seek a more reasonable company, Noire."
"Huh... wha... what? Really? Oh, Lucina, you shouldn't have..."
There are many emotions displayed by your friend, there. Surprise seems to be the dominant one, and you can also feel her anxiety, which seems mostly directed at you, as if fearing for yourself. But behind those, you can hear an undercurrent of happiness, and that's all you really need to keep going.
"I won't watch her hurt you and do nothing, Noire. That's the least I could do for you."
"Ah..."
She seems at a loss for words. Is it really so unbelievable that you'd stand up for her? You weren't that bad of a friend, were you? Behind you, Tharja only scoffs at your display of defiance.
"How cute. And have you ever wondered if your meddling might make things worse from her in the long run? How I choose to protect her really should be of no concern to you."
"Protect her from what? Nothing is threatening her, beside you!"
The dark mage emits a low chuckle, and that is enough to send shivers through your spine. There is no warmth in this laugh, no pleasantness to be found. Only coldness and malice.
"Is that really what you think? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Everyone here seem blinded by the current peace. But know this, brat : this won't last. Even now, I can feel the darkness growing. It won't be long now, until this world suffers a calamity you can only begin to imagine. And I intend to have my daughter prepared for it."
You want to deny her words. There is no substance to her claims, you know that for a fact. The peace of the world is but assured for at least the next decade, your recent studies told you as much. With the Valmese empire dismantled, the Plegian kingdom still nursing its wounds from the last war, and the other kingdoms in friendly relations with Ylisse, there is no foreign threat to worry about. Yet the absolute certainty of her tone makes you hesitate. More importantly, something just rang true in what she just said, even if you're unable to explain it.
"Hmph. If you're going to cause me troubles, maybe I should do something about it. Maybe a hex to erase your memories... that might do the trick..."
That is enough to jolt you out of your thoughts, suddenly very aware of Tharja's hand gestures, who seem ready to start an incantation at a moment' notice. She wouldn't... she would, you realize. This is a person who cursed her own daughter, why would she hesitate for someone else? The fear is coming back now, but you still stand defiantly. Even if you forget this day, this won't be the end of it, of that you're certain.
"N... no! Please, mother, don't do anything to her!"
To your surprise, Noire's plead is enough to make her mother hesitate. The glare she sends your way is still anything from pleasant, but you can tell most of her anger has abated. At this point, she seems mostly weary.
"Tsk. First Libra, now this. And I suppose this will only get worse, given the amount of weak-willed fools among the Shepherds. Very well, little girl. I'll do my best to not use as much magic on Noire. Now leave me be, you two. I have to devise a new way to train her resistance."
This is a dismissal, and you know you're unlikely to achieve a better result. Truth be told, you don't think you could have hoped for a more favourable outcome, and Noire's sigh, both incredulous and relieved, tell the same story. Tharja disappears in a back room, where you suspect her laboratory is, leaving you alone with your friend. All your righteous anger and worked-up courage finally vanish at once, and you almost collapse from the tension rushing back all at once. Noire manages to spare you an embarrassing tumble, catching you back at the last moment.
"Lu... Lucina... You... Why would you do that? I've never be so..."
She seems as mentally exhausted as you, and you manage to send her a weak smile that you hope is reassuring.
"Of course I'd want to help you. What kind of friend would I be otherwise?"
She seems to struggle for words, but the small smile that begins to show on her face is the only answer you really need. Finally managing to steady yourself, you put one hand on her shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze.
"If... if you have troubles, come and talk to me about it, okay? I'll do my best to help."
Noire nods, not trusting her voice to answer. The two of you stay side by side for a few minutes in a comfortable silence, until Noire finally breaks it.
"Umm, I think I'm beginning to be a bit hungry. Do you... want to have lunch with me?"
You smile. "It will be my pleasure."

[] Meditate on the presence at the shrine
After the recent events, coming back to Naga's shrine is a real relief to you. Working up the courage to confront Tharja by yourself really left you a nervous wreck, and you're more than happy to return to the place where you can meditate in peace. You're welcomed by Libra, and though he doesn't say anything, the grateful smile he sends your way and the extra attention he gives you when teaching you how to use a healing staff say it all, really.
After a few weeks, your mind is at peace again, enough to begin exploring that strange feeling you got during those last months of meditation. Maybe it was just your imagination ; maybe it is awfully presumptuous of you to think that Naga would pay specific attention to you, let alone talk to you. But Libra often told you that the divine dragon was not a distant deity, removed from her worshippers, but one who still cared about the world of men. So was it really so implausible...?
For several days, nothing changes. The place is still the sanctuary of tranquillity you remember it to be, but no otherworldly being reveal itself to you. Yet bit by bit, you can feel a growing presence around you. It is a warm, comforting sensation, and in those moments, you know this can't possibly be your imagination alone at work here. You try to focus on those feelings, and though your efforts are mostly unsuccessful, one day you manage to hear a faint, ethereal voice, almost if carried by the wind.
Your courage will serve you well, child. Remember it when darker days come.
Well. It seems like Naga is indeed whispering to you. You honestly don't know how to feel about that.

[] Let Cu get used to your presence
You now have a wyvern. It's an exhilarating feeling, but you know you're going to need a lot of time before a real bond of trust is established between you and Cu. Well, you decide, might as well start as soon as possible. In the coming months, you make daily visits to your new friend, letting her be used to you, as yourself learn to know her. Cu is a bit skittish, probably due to being fairly young herself, and quite far from her home. On a couple of occasions, she attempts to bite or claw at you ; fortunately, you have been expecting those instinctual reactions ; your work alongside your mother with pegasi taught you that even a peaceful creature can react strongly to an unknown presence, and a wyvern is considerably more aggressive than a pegasus.
You're vigilant and quick enough to avoid any notable injury, only getting a scratch one morning where you're a bit slower than usual. Still, that is a cheap price to pay in exchange for Cu's eventual trust. You are the only one taking care of her meals, cleaning her box, admonishing her if need be. Soon enough, she begins to respond positively to your presence, no longer shying away or snapping at your arrival. It is far too soon to try to take her on a ride, but when she begins to accept physical contact with you, you know you're on the right track.

[] Study the mysterious card
The gift left to you by the mysterious old man is most intriguing, you must admit. While the quality of the image is indeed impressive, you can feel that this isn't all there is to it. Fortunately, looking for information in old tomes is becoming something of a habit for you. For days, you go through most of Ylisstol resources when it comes to magical artefacts, trying to identify the one you might possess. Finally, one obscure volume offers you a possible clue, and a name : Einherjar.
It truly is a fascinating read. According to those pages, this was a way to create a reflection of some of the most famous heroes history ever knew, with a rough approximation of their skills, knowledge and personalities. Taking the form of cards, a trained user could summon them in the material world for a time, letting them walk among mortals once more. The created copy isn't truly the original hero, though, only an imperfect reflection, unable to create long term memories. And the ability of making new ones has been lost to the ages ; even their continued existence was in doubt. Yet what you had was proof, was it not?
Armed with this new knowledge, you decide to try it out. It is... harder than you thought. The first days hardly provide any result, no matter how you wave the card or shout improvised incantations. Still, your rudimentary grasp on magic tells you that is the key to summon the spirit inside the card. You'll probably need to learn more on how to properly apply your willpower to get a proper result... But you're close, you're sure of it.

Summer holidays
You are now old enough for your parents to consider the possibility of letting you go on a trip for a couple of months. This would be done under escort, of course, and only toward a destination perceived as safe, but still, the prospect of leaving Ylisstol for more than a couple of days is enticing. Do you want to leave for...
[] Chon'sin : the tales of lady Say'ri about her homeland have made a vivid impression on you, and you're eager to meet the princess once again. Plus, you heard the Voice of Naga was there! This sounds pretty exciting! [] Rosanne : meeting uncle Virion and lady Cherche would make you really glad, not to mention it's been a while since you've seen Inigo and Gerome. Plus, they have wyverns around there, don't they? [] Regna Ferox : you've heard a lot about the northern warrior kingdom and its ruler, Khan Flavia. Maybe it would be a good opportunity to discover the place? [] Nowhere : you have enough to do at home, really. There'll be time to travel when you're older.
If you wish so, you might also invite up to two of your friends to come with you. Do you want to travel with... (up to two choices)
An omake that I had been thinking about for a little while, but these lines... Well, I couldn't not after reading them. So, why is Lucina so driven? We vote on what she should do for the year, yes, but why does she do this IC, the answer is... something.
The silence wrapping around her almost hurt her ears with how loud it was.
Twice now. Twice she has felt something strike a chord so deep within her core, she had not even known it existed before.
First it was Lady Tharja, who tortured her own child to "Prepare" her for what she knows is coming.
And now The Goddess Naga whispering for her to hold on to her courage for the coming darkness.
Lucina stared blankly at her lap, her knuckles going white and her thighs hurting from the grip she was exerting on her own legs.
Her conversation with Tharja had shaken her far more than she let on. A trembling fear that hadn't left her. And now it was growing. No... not growing.
She had been running from it.
Ever since her father returned, something had whispered in her ear. Something that had made her afraid. That something was coming and she would not be ready for it.
And so she drove herself. She trained and fought and learned. ...And the fear instilled her with the certainty, the certainty that it would not be enough.
Courageous? Hardly. She was just so much more afraid for others than herself. So much more afraid that she would be too weak to do anything. Helpless to save anyone.
Her breath was ragged and quick, her hands wrapped around herself, her entire body trembling, sweat beading on her forehead, which was nearly touching the ground from how she had curled up on the ground.
Lucina stayed there for a few minutes, her breath slowly coming down back to normal, but her arms continued to hug her in a death grip. The fear was still wrapped about her neck, but it no longer choked her.
Lucina stayed there even longer, until her hands let go of her arms, but she remained frozen on the ground. The fear weighed heavy on her arms and shoulders, but it no longer paralyzed.
Lucina stayed until she could stand, her legs trembling but not falling out from under her, but her eyes remained unfocused. The fear drove at her back, pushing her farther, but it no longer made her bow in defeat.
Lucina walked to the door, her eyes gaining focus with each step. The fear receding into the back of her mind, reminding her why she drove herself, but no longer flooding her mind.
She could feel it now, starkly. The fears hanging over her like a mantle, turning upon themselves and each other. Wrapping about her and whispering to the fears within her heart, driving her farther and farther.
And the worst one of all. The fear of helplessness. That no matter how strong she was, how much she knew, that it wouldn't be enough. the one fear that was with her most often, trailing its fingers down the back of her neck as she trained and fought. Pushing her farther than she would have believed possible.
She would have to apologize to that Priestess later though. She wasn't sure what her face looked like right now, but that poor Priestess had gone white in the face before dropping to the ground in supplication as she was going by.
"... worried about her."
A sigh, "I am as well, but I don't know what to do."
Mother. "She doesn't play with any of the other children anymore. She had a spar with Owain some time ago, but..."
Father. "But that was the only thing she has done with any of them, even Cynthia, in months."
"..."
"..."
"What's wrong? Why would she be..."
"... She went back to train with Fredrick again. ...Yes, really dear. You don't do something like that without a reason. Its why I haven't encouraged her to go out with the others more forcefully."
"... Maybe a visit to one of the others?"
"Hmm... She is old enough... yeah, getting out of Ylisse might do her some good hopefully."
"I hope so."
Cynthia slowly crept back from the crack in the doorway. She had seen her sister coming back from the temple she went to a lot.
Her sister's face had scared her.
She thinks it scared a lot of people, if how they kept bowing and getting out of her sister's way was any indication.
And then there was dinner. Sister's face had relaxed by then, but something about the way she held herself brought back the memory of it. Cynthia's not sure whether mom and dad noticed or not, but the looks they exchanged at dinner said a lot without saying lot in that silly way adults did.
And now this.
And then she tripped over her own feet and she was falling and she was going to ge-
Suddenly there was a hand over her mouth, and she tried to scream, but it died in her throat as blue eyes peered into her own. One of those eyes bearing the Mark of Naga.
Her sister put her finger to her lips and then slowly pulled her to her feet. But it was strange. Her sister's heart was racing. The beats resounding in her ear against her sister's chest, but... but her hands were still and sure, her face focused, and her eyes sharp.
Cynthia looked at her sister. She looked and remembered all the times she had to tell the others that Lucina couldn't make it, that she barely had enough time for Cynthia herself. And sometimes not even that much.
Cynthia looked at her sister and realized something, "Sister?"
Lucina didn't even glance at her, keeping her eyes looking ahead, watching the shadows in the hall on the way to their rooms.
Cynthia licked her lips and pulled her courage together, looking her sister in the eyes even if they weren't being met by her sister's yet, "Why are you afraid?"
Lucina froze. But her sister's eyes, those eyes snapped to her.
Her sister's eyes burned. And she wanted to look away, to let it go, but she couldn't. She didn't know why she couldn't, but she knew she couldn't let it go.
Lucina's face relaxed and her eyes stopped burning before she looked away, "... I wish I knew Cynthia. I wish I knew, so that, maybe, I could stop it."
Cynthia's arms wrapped around her sister's stomach and hugged her tight. A moment later her sister reciprocated, her arms wrapping around her.
That night they slept in the same bed, just like they used to when they got lonely from mom and dad being gone. And the next morning, even as her sister set off again, she couldn't help but feel that everything was a little bit better. No Man is an island. Do not forget that compassion and warmth in the coming darkness, many will need it.
Cynthia blinked, "Weird, I thought I heard something." Shrugging she moved off to the stables, one of the Pegasi had had a baby recently and she was finally going to get to see it. She was so excited.
A huff and bemused chuckle followed her out the door, not that she heard those either.
And cut. Lucina is afraid. She doesn't know of what, she didn't even know she was afraid until now. But, but now she wears it. Maybe not the healthiest choice, but she knows how its driven her and that as long as she can control it then it can be useful. And good training for keeping a handle on other fears.
You know, if Noire was asking her mother for that training, I wonder if Lucina would be okay with it. Its not too different from what she's doing to herself, just physical training instead of magical.
Oh, and I was listening to this:
the entire time. Found it last night and I've been listening to it a lot since, but I can't tell if it fits or not. I don't think so, but... *Shrug*
After much hesitations, you eventually pick Chon'sin as your destination. The prospect of meeting lady Say'ri again plays a good part in your final decision, the foreign princess having made quite an impression on you. With you, you decide to bring Severa and Noire ; you don't like the idea of leaving Noire alone in Ylisstol so soon after your dramatic encounter with Tharja, and you hope a trip might be a good occasion to reconnect with Severa ; you haven't seen her a lot, lately. Then again, the same could be said for most of your friends ; the training you put yourself through left little occasions to socialize. Well, maybe this trip will prove helpful in that regard.
Under the protection of half a dozen of guards, led by sir Kellam, your small group takes the road for Senthil's Rest, the harbour closest from Ylisstol. The knights give you and your friends space – in fact, Kellam is so discreet you forget he's there half the time – giving you the possibility to chatter with your two companions in peace. Your first inquiry is about Severa's training. You don't know how that has been going, or even if she is still following it – while Severa is pretty stubborn once she decides something, her likes and dislikes can be pretty volatiles. When asked about it, she shrugs.
"It's going well, I guess. I mean, I'm not exactly a genius at it, unlike some, but I'm making progress, I suppose."
She seems hesitant to talk to you about it, though you're not certain why. Noire seems to know more about her training than you, though, since she can't help but interject.
"Wait, Brady told me his father was worried about you training too hard. And then you getting angry when he tells you to stop?"
"Sh-shut up! What's it to you anyway?"
You feel like you're the last one who should criticize someone for pushing herself too hard, but you admit you're a bit curious about it. Severa always had been pretty diligent in your opinion, but if Brady talked about it to Noire, this sounded like something else.
"I suppose you must have gotten quite good, then."
"Don't patronize me! I know you're much better at it than I am, I don't need your pity."
You blink. That hadn't been your intent. Besides...
"Wait, how would you know if I'm really better?"
"Ah... well, I caught a glimpse of you a few times while you were training with your dad and Lon'qu." She seems a bit embarrassed by her admission, though once again, you're not sure why. "And Owain told me you demolished him in a spar last month – my words, not his – and given that I train with him pretty often and that he keeps beating me, well..."
And now she seems dejected. Still, you suspect that if you were to ask Owain, he might have more positive things to say. You can't help but wonder, though. Why is she trying so hard to prove herself? And to whom?
"You know, Owain and I have been training with a sword for a long time, now. It's been barely a year for you. I'm sure you'll catch up in no time if you keep at it."
"I guess..."
She seems a bit mollified by your words, if not entirely convinced. Noire once again chimes in, an wistful expression on her face.
"I think both of you are pretty amazing. I mean, I'm completely hopeless with a weapon."
"You know, if you want to, there are plenty of people who can teach you" comments Severa offhandedly. Admittedly, the fact that she is the one to say it is a bit ironic, you think, but you agree with the general sentiment. The Shepherds are hailed as being among the greatest fighters in the world, surely finding a suitable mentor should be simple enough? Though you shudder at the thought Tharja might teach her magic ; you don't think you'd like her tutoring.
"Ah, I gave it a try, once, but I don't think I'm made for this... I mean, I could barely swing the thing last time... I don't think I'm made for this."
You can't say you're surprised. For the most part, Noire dislikes confrontation ; and while you're used to grow up in a very martial environment, there's nothing forcing her to take that path too. Still, is it her choice, or is it her anxiety talking? It's hard to say, really.
Do you want to add something to the exchange? (optional)

Your first time on a ship... doesn't quite go as planned. It's a week long trip, and you had made plans to pass the time. Talk to Noire in order to get her mind off her troubles with her mother. Exercise a little with Severa. Spend some time studying the einherjar card you brought with you - just in case. Maybe even participate to the ship manoeuvers, at the very least learn the basics. Instead, you spend most of that time sea-sick in your cabin. Sea travel is horrible. How can people stand this?! You spend a whole week being miserable, while your two friends seem perfectly fine. Noire does her best to make you feel better – and to your eternal shame, the only way you manage to repay her efforts is by almost barfing on her – while Severa is teasing you mercilessly – which would have annoyed you a lot more had you been healthy enough to care. When your ship finally reaches Valmese coast, you're among the first on solid ground, offering all your thanks to Naga, Milla or anyone who would listen, really.
Once you feel well enough again, you take the time to admire your surroundings. The Chon'sin port offers a sight entirely different than what you're accustomed to. Everything, from the buildings to the people, even the vegetation, is entirely different than what you can see in Ylisse. By your side, your two friends are just as awestruck as you are. Even Severa doesn't find a sarcastic remark to toss around for the occasion. This truly seems like a different world. You barely have enough time to take it all in until the Chon'sin delegation arrive to greet you, and the group is quickly led to queen Say'ri, who is all to happy to see you and your friends, offering a warm welcome to the newcomers. While she doesn't have as much time as she'd like for you three – this pesky thing called "ruling a country" tends to get in the way – she promise to come and see you all at her nearest convenience, inviting you in the meantime to make yourselves comfortable in your assigned quarters.
Very quickly, you three are wondering what to do first. Your two friends both have ideas ; Noire heard of some hot springs close to the city, apparently famous for their relaxing properties, and would like to check it out. Severa wishes to go on a shopping spree through the Chon'sin capital, in order to acquire as many souvenirs as possible.

Not really happy with this update, but... *shrugs*
After some hesitation, you finally let Severa drag you through the city. It is actually rare to see her so enthusiastic, and you admit her energy is somewhat communicative. The next hours are spent looking at the various shops you happen to find, each displaying exotic items and products. Your first attempt at buying something – a lovely orange dress with yellow dots that you believe would suit you very well – is met with a firm veto from your friend ; in fact, she seems aghast that you'd consider such a garment. This actually leads to an argument between you two, with each side uttering rather derogatory comments about the other's tastes. Finally, Severa manages to grudgingly convince you with the fact that it wouldn't suit you before long, since you're growing pretty fast.
"Gawds, I forgot you could actually be really weird sometimes."
You only answer that jab with a loud hmph. You don't want to hear that from her, of all people! This is only the first bickering in a long line during the afternoon, but you can't help but find it... comfortable. Severa seems to enjoy teasing you, and you have to admit her ways are... refreshing, compared to the usual formality you're used to. Finally, the day comes to an end, leaving you with your acquisitions. All in all, you're pretty satisfied, despite your companion's frantic protests each time you gave a vestment a second glance. After all, you did find...
(Pick Two)
[] Several trinkets to offer your friends back in Ylisstol [] A white cloak of Valmese silk that apparently meet your friend arbitrary standards [] A ceremonial curved sword, a bit too big for you right now, but that will change, right? (counts as two choices due to the price) [] A philosophy treaty from an ancient Chon'sin sage [] A jade bracelet said to have been blessed by Mila (Severa is rather skeptical, but admit it looks nice) [] A set of divination cards. You don't know how that works, but the art is rather impressive.
As night begins to fall, you two return to your quarters, exhausted, but rather pleased with your day. Just before you separate, Severa sends a nervous glance your way, before speaking up.
"By the way... thank you for coming with me. I had a lot of fun."
"I did too" you smile. "We really should do this more often."
"Sure thing."
As you watch the younger girl return to her room, you nod to yourself. Yes, definitely a good day.
The rest of your stay proves to be just as stimulating. Say'ri is a most gracious host, taking time when she can free herself from her duties to talk to you, using the opportunity to ask for news from Ylisse – messages can only tell so much. Quickly, you four taking tea together becomes a daily ritual. As for the rest of the time... There are many things to do in a new land, and once again, you can only lament the fact that there are only so many hours in a day.
(Pick Two ; you might ask Severa and/or Noire to accompany you)
[] Visit the Voice of Naga : the resting place of that mythical figure isn't that far, and Say'ri told you she was in good terms with her. It might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. [] Practice Chon'sin style : Lon'qu's training allowed you to master the basics, but there are no doubts that this might be the best place to train in that style. [] The Way of the Bow : archery seems to be used a lot more here than in Ylisse. You never gave it a try, maybe this is the occasion to learn something new? [] Explore the land : learning about the country and its people by observing with your own eyes might prove to be an enlightening experience [] Spend time at the library : you're quite curious to see what texts you might find here that wouldn't be available in Ylisstol
[] Do you look for something in particular?
[] Write-in
Shorter than I'd like, but it'll keep things moving.
[X] Several trinkets to offer your friends back in Ylisstol.
[X] A jade bracelet said to have been blessed by Mila (Severa is rather skeptical, but admit it looks nice)
You take great care to find something for each of your friends and family back at home. While taking them all with you had been impossible, requiring a far too large escort, you intend to bring them back something. At the very least, you're decided to show them you don't take their friendship for granted. Severa is actually a big help with that, helping you with the selection. In many cases, she seems more aware of each likes and dislikes from the others – teasing you with the fact that she doesn't spend all of her free time training, unlike some.
Between two gifts, your eye catch a shining green bracelet. You don't know if it is blessed or not, as its seller claims it to be, but it certainly a fetching accessory. After making sure that Severa won't raise any objection – killjoy – you buy the item for yourself. You don't feel any different, as was expected, but you're nonetheless quite happy with your find.
Relations with friends at home all raised to D (for those who were below that)
No relationship penalty for not taking them with you

[X] Visit the Voice of Naga
-[X] With Noire
-[X] With Severa
As soon as you manifest your interest, Say'ri begins to plan for a short travel to Mila Tree, the resting place of the Voice of the Divine Dragon. Given your recent experiences with Naga in Ylisstol, you are actually pretty curious to meet her. Severa and Noire chose to come along, probably quite intrigued too – it isn't every day you get to meet a being of legend, after all. The queen of Chon'sin accompany you herself, jumping on the occasion to visit the one she describes as her dear friend. That makes you curious on what sort of person the Voice might be.
"You might be... surprised. Verily, Lady Tiki is rather unique. It would not do to speak of her behind her back, though. I will let you form your own opinion."
That doesn't tell you much. Truth be told, you're not quite sure what you expect to begin with. Well, only one way to find out, you suppose. The first surprise comes when your group finally reach the Mila Tree. It is truly gigantic, and you can easily believe only a goddess could have make such thing grow. The climb is nonetheless a rather easy, if peculiar experience ; wooden carved stairs and treks through branches as large as bridges bring you to the top in less than an hour. The sight alone would be worth the trek, but you admit, you are more interested in the almost mythical being living here. The temple at the top of the tree is surprisingly small ; in fact, the shrine in Ylisstol would be quite larger. There's only a couple servants standing guard, and they quickly make way at the sight of the Chon'sin queen.
"Lady Tiki? Are thee awake?"
That seems like a strange question, you think. The priests you know – which, granted, means Libra, mostly – tend to be early risers, surely the Voice of Naga would be the same? Not to mention, it is long past noon. Anyone would be up at this...
"Nnnngh..."
The sleepy groan forces you to revise your assumptions. The room where Tiki resides is surprisingly small, with very little ornaments. There is a bed, but it seems to have been ignored by the green haired oracle, who elected to nap on the carpet, sleeping curled up upon herself. Almost like a cat, you think, before banishing quickly the irreverent thought. Come to think of it, didn't you see Nah and Morgan sleep like that, too? Maybe it's a dragon thing.
…
You wonder how those two are doing. In front of you, Say'ri let out a tired sigh.
"My lady, I really wish you'd listen to me. A being of your magnificence should be more self-conscious."
The words barely seems to register in the manakete's mind, who's more busy trying to cling to consciousness.
"Hmmmph... Ah? Say'ri?"
The Voice of Naga manages to rise to a sitting position, rubbing her eyes while producing an impressive yawn. You exchange a look with Severa and Noire, neither of you quite certain how to react. Say'ri didn't lie, you admit, this wasn't what you expected. The queen, however, seems unimpressed by the situation.
"Aye. Are thee well, lady Tiki?"
The manakete blinks a couple of time, before she starts smiling.
"Say'ri! I was beginning to think you had forgotten me! How long has it been?"
"I would never, my lady. And it had been barely two weeks."
"Always so formal..."
With another yawn, she stands up, before taking notice of the three girls who came along with her friend.
"Don't tell me... are they yours? My, children are growing up so fast these days..."
"Wha... of course not! I just told you, it has only been two weeks!"
… you don't think you've ever seen Say'ri so flustered. She nonetheless does an admirable job at composing herself, taking the time to clear her throat before continuing.
"Allow me to introduce you to lady Lucina, lady Noire and lady Severa, from Ylisse. They each are from the Shepherds' lineage. My ladies, here is lady Tiki, the Voice of the Divine Dragon... as unlikely as it may seem right now."
"You're so mean..."
Despite the apparent complain, she is still smiling, before taking a closer look at you three. You get the feeling her eyes linger just a little bit more on yours, maybe noticing the Brand in your left one, making you a little self conscious. For an instant, you no longer see the rather relaxed girl she appears to be, but get to glimpse at something ancient, a being who saw entire generations of men come and go. You know she was there when the Hero King rose – suddenly, the card in your pocket feels heavier – and you briefly wonders how, having known one of the greatest man the world had ever known, Tiki might consider the following generations. The sensation is quickly gone, though, and you suddenly find yourself almost nose to nose with the Voice.
"Aww, they're adorable!"
You can't help but blush at the sudden declaration, and from the looks of it, your two friends have pretty much the same reaction. Even Severa doesn't seem to be able to spit out a complaint – and you know she wants to. Once again, Say'ri is the one coming to the rescue, with a gently chiding tone.
"My lady, please don't embarrass your guests. No doubt they expected a more... dignified composure."
Well, she's not entirely wrong. Tiki doesn't seem particularly put off by the admonishment, though, simply shrugging off the complaint.
"I'm sure they get enough of that at home, already. Better to learn to know each other rather than creating fake barriers between us. It was hard enough getting you to loosen up a little..."
You feel someone elbowing you in the ribs.
"They look like an old married couple."
"Severa!"
Noire seems scandalized, and you try to put a disapproving frown on your face, but inwardly, you have to admit, the comparison does have merits. Right now, the three of you seem to have been momentarily forgotten, the two friends lost in an animated, but clearly good-natured exchange. You give them space, not wanting to intrude on their moment. While the Voice's casual attitude took you by surprise, now that you're thinking about it... living on the top of that tree, far away from the rest of the world... it must be lonely, you believe. Is it so surprising she would not want to put an additional social barrier between her and others, then? Finally, the conversation between Tiki and Say'ri ends, the later gesturing you to come closer.
"Very well. Lady Tiki will talk to you one at a time. And please, my Lady, try to not fall asleep in the middle of the conversation."
"It only happened once, though..."
Noire and Severa both looking hesitant, you decide to step forward, while Say'ri lead your two friends for a tour of the place, leaving you alone with Tiki. A small smile on her face, she invites you to sit on the ground, while doing so herself
"My lady, it is an..."
"Please, just Tiki. It's bad enough that Say'ri is doing it, but you shouldn't take her bad habits."
You hesitate a bit. It feels wrong! And yet...
"Ah... Ti... Tiki then? It's - it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Maybe I should be the one saying that. You're the girl Naga told me about, right?"
Your heart leaps in your chest. So it was true! You didn't imagine it! But then, how does she know? You quickly realize the absurdity of your own question ; she's the Voice of Naga. She probably talks to her all the time. But then...
"Naga... talks about me?"
"Hmm. Sometimes. Not only about you, of course. But I remember her telling me of a young blue haired girl far too serious for her own age, but with her heart in the right place. Lucina, is it?"
You nod, unsure of what to say? How does one react when learning she is a subject of gossip from a goddess? Unaware of your inner turmoil, Tiki continue with her musings.
"You look quite like your father, actually. Is he doing well?"
"Ah, yes! He's doing fine."
You hesitate a bit, before continuing.
"Tiki... might I ask a question?"
"Of course."
You take a deep breath, trying to compose yourself.
"I... I think I heard Naga talking to me... Back home. But I don't know what she wants." You gulp. "I don't know why she noticed me, and what she expects from me, and I'm afraid to fail her and..."
The words come rushing as you begin to voice your anxieties for the first time, ones that plagued you for a long time, but didn't know how to express. That fear, who had become a familiar companion, and that you hoped you had mastered, is now coming back to the surface, threatening to swallow you. It all ends when you feel two arms around you.
"Shhh. It's all right."
Tiki is now holding you, and you're too relieved to remember to be embarrassed. Right now, you feel... safe. It's not quite like the feeling you get when your parents are holding you, but it's a comforting experience nonetheless.
"I will need to have words with Naga, for scaring you like that. She sometimes forget how to properly talk to people."
You suddenly have the mental image of Tiki scolding the deity, and it takes all your willpower to stifle a laugh. The scene is... somehow easy to imagine. Feeling your spirits being lifted, the manakete releases her hold, offering you a kind smile.
"Do you want me to talk to her? I might be able to answer some of your questions."
She... she can do that?! Right here, right now? Shouldn't there be a ritual, or a ceremony, or... something?! Correctly interpreting your surprise, the oracle is quick to reassure you.
"Well, humans might need those, but it's easier for manakete. And I certainly hope she'd make time for me!"
You suddenly remember ; Tiki isn't simply Naga's voice... She's her daughter. How easy it was to forget this pleasant and approachable person had divine blood in her... You nod, and the woman closes her eyes for an instant, as if hearing something from far away. The moment only lasts for a few seconds, before she's looking back at you.
"She says you should laugh more. It's good for the heart."
"Wh-wha?"
"Oh, and don't skip sleep. A growing girl need to be well rested."
"That's... are you sure that's what she said?"
It feels wrong to question like that the one being supposed to reveal Naga's will to mortals, but there's no way this can be true, right? It sounds far too... too... normal! She sounds like your parents! Tiki seems more amused than offended, though.
"Yes, people are often surprised by that. But remember, the first thing Naga wants from you is your well-being. It's as simple as that."
"But last time... there was a warning, I think. But I don't know about what."
The manakete's face grow more somber.
"Unfortunately, neither does Naga. There are things that even she cannot foretell. But there is a growing darkness on the world... and I believe she thinks you might have a part to play in fighting it. For good or for bad, Naga's hunches often turn off to be true."
"But then..."
"Then your first duty is to take care of yourself. It's no use worrying about every shadow and simply waiting for a blow that may never come. Trust in yourself, trust in your friends, so that if the time come, you all have the strength to overcome these challenges. And remember that you are never alone."
Those words... make sense, you think. It's not quite enough to banish your anxiety – you don't think anything would be enough – but you feel a bit better. Still...
"Is there anything more you could do to help?"
"Actually..."
Her gaze slides toward the pocket of your tunic, the one where you stored the einherjar card.
"I felt it for a while, but you have an interesting with you, do you not? I might be able to help with that."
"Really?"
Carefully, you draw the card, presenting it to Tiki ; she examines it, and you notice her eyes widen a bit when she sees the image, her expression growing nostalgic.
"Mar-Mar..."
The words are whispered so low you're not sure you even heard that right. Still, she quickly seems to find back her focus, though, and begins to guide you through a series of meditation exercises, helping you feeling the magic of the card. With her aid, you believe you can now manage to establish a connection to it, and maybe at last use it as it was intended to be. Still, when you ask her if you should try right now, Tiki shakes her head.
"You could probably use a bit more training before trying it out. And..." she looks away, a pained expression on her face "... I would prefer if you did not do that... here."
You suddenly feel ashamed of yourself. Of course trying to summon a reflection of her old-departed friend would not go well with her! How could you forget such a thing? But before you can utter an apology, the manakete reassures you.
"It's all right. Just... use it well. This is a precious gift you have here."
You can only nod to that.
On your way back to Chon'sin, little words are exchanged between you and your friends. You feel yourself strangely reluctant to talk about your experience, and it seems Severa and Noire are just as well unwilling to talk, each lost in thoughts. Clearly, their own private conversations left some mark on them, though which one, you can only guess. The whole experience had been strange, yet oddly comforting. You definitely don't regret coming here ; you still have many questions concerning the future, but maybe for the first time, you dare hope it might end up okay.

Unknown effects on Severa
[X] Suggest to Noire that she try the bow lessons. If she doesn't like close combat, maybe she'll enjoy ranged weapons more? You want to try them too, but maybe Noire can show you some basics later.
Thinking back to your conversation with Noire, you wonder. It's true that you have trouble imagining her with a sword in hand, but from what you know of her, she seems pretty dexterous. And you know that Chon'sin gives archery a prominent place in its martial education. Maybe it would be a good opportunity for her to try?
She seems a bit hesitant when you make your proposal – and you can understand that for someone as timid as she usually is, going alone might seem scary. But she nonetheless tell you she'll try. And indeed, on the following dinners, she tells you and Severa of her experience. Being surrounded by strangers is a bit intimidating, but the people here are not unkind. From what she says, she has good accuracy, though she still has trouble drawing, and while you don't get the impression she particularly enjoys herself, she seems a bit more confident in her own skills.
Noire has now basic training in archery
She doesn't have a real drive for it yet, but might keep up an occasional training regimen back in Ylisse
[X] Practice Chon'sin style : Lon'qu's training allowed you to master the basics, but there are no doubts that this might be the best place to train in that style.
-[X] Severa
During your stay in Chon'sin, it isn't long before you decide to engage in your favourite past-time : swords. You decide to take Severa with you, and while she does mock you for your single-mindedness, you notice with a smile that she still follows – almost looking happy about it. Locating the training grounds is rather easy ; and as it was to be expected, the place isn't empty, with several youth already practising their fencing – though you notice that even the youngest here seem at least three or four years older than you. Nonetheless, you still go introduce yourself to some of the younger group, requesting permission for you and your friend to train with them.
The first reaction isn't quite to your liking. While it is not a refusal, you can't help but find the smiles offered to you rather condescending, and you can't quite suppress an eye twitch when you hear the word "cute". It's bad enough when coming from an adult, but from them... Severa seems far less willing to tolerate the general attitude, and looks almost ready to throw herself at the closer one when you hold her back, before offering them your brightest smile. Thank you so much for accepting! Perhaps a spar would be a good way for you to learn?
Two minutes later, the boy who volunteered is flat on his ass, Severa is barely holding back a snicker, and you feel rather good about yourself. From this moment on, the rest of the group seems far more inclined to take you seriously, and you and Severa get to join them in their daily practice. Though she struggles a bit at first, your friend picks up the basics of the style rather quickly, even though her form remain quite rough, and that she keeps slipping back into her old style when her focus begins to wane. Still, you know from experience that learning a new style when you're already used to another can be a bit tricky at first, and you can only hope the advices you give her will help in the long run.
The whole group gets the pleasant surprise of having one day Say'ri herself join on the training session one morning. While it is known she's still a regular on these grounds, many are surprised to see her here at that particular time, and you suspect your own presence might be an explanation for this change in schedule. And while she does find the time to help each student of your small training circle, you get the impression she pays a particular attention to your own form, quick to point out flaws in your guard, to suggest ways to improve your legwork, and to offer praise after a particularly well executed kata. Her own demonstrations are as impressive as you remember ; while Lon'qu's style, all speed and efficiency, is worthy of praise, you can't help but being drawn by the queen's more fluid display. It feels... right, in more ways than one.
Skill : Chon'sin style improved to D
Severa is now trained in Chon'sin style
So many ways to sword differently... Trait gained! Twin path of the blade : you are now almost as familiar with your second style than with your first. Switching from one to another comes a lot more naturally to you, and with time, it might be possible to even mix the two indiscriminately during a fight, drawing from the strength of both while minimizing their weaknesses.
Your time in Chon'sin ends far too soon for your liking. Those few weeks had been a great experience, and you sincerely hope you'll get the chance to come back one of these days. At the very least, you certainly don't regret coming here. Though you have to admit, you can't wait until ou get back home to tell everything that happened to your friends and parents!
Then you remember that before that, you have to step again on a boat. This world... is merciless.

Relations with Severa improved
As summer end, you find yourself back in Ylisstol, more determined than ever. However, it seems your free time might be reduced this time around ; now that you're growing older, the demands on your education are becoming more strict. At least one classe has been added to your usual lessons, and you suspect there might be more to come soon.

Pick six (6) actions
[] To the limits : so far, your training with Frederick has paid off. You can feel yourself growing stronger, bit by bit. At this point, that feeling of progression is enough to keep you going, despite the fatigue. Lisa warned you not to overdo it, though.
[] Path of the swordmaster : you're beginning to be rather familiar with Chon'sin swordmanship. Time to show Lon'qu the progress you made abroad!
[] Time to tip the scales! : your strategy lessons are going rather well, if Robin's appraisal is any clue. And while nothing can replaces experience, getting as much theory as possible should prove quite useful.
[] Tomes of magic : magic certainly seems to play a larger role in your life as of late. You already know a bit about healing, but what about the other forms? Maybe you should look into it.
[] Spend time in the library : your first foray in Ylisstol's library had been a fascinating experience, and you suspect there is still a lot more you can learn from its tomes. Who knows how much knowledge you can still dig up from it?
[] Any specific topic in mind? (no extra action)
[] Attend some royal audiences : as heiress to Ylisse's throne, you are acutely aware that one day -as late as possible, you hope- you will be called up to rule. Now that you're beginning to have a better idea of what it might entails, it could be a profitable experience to see how your father does it.
[] Speaking to the Divine Dragon : you experience in the shrine, and your exchange with Tiki made you curious. Even if you don't think you'll ever communicate as easily as her with Naga, continuing your visits to the temple might help you make everything clearer.
[] How to train your dragon : after your absence, it's time to pick up Cu's training. Perhaps you'll be able to take her on a flight this time?
[] Spirit of the Hero King : with Tiki's help, you're close to a breakthrough, you just know it. All you need is a little more time to unlock the einherjar secrets...
Gh. That one took forever. I really should have split it, I think, but... *shrugs*

As always, Frederick's tutoring is merciless. But this is what you've come to expect over those long months. What does surprise you, however, is that this time you're not alone ; his son, Yarne, was apparently brought along, though you don't think he's particularly happy to be there – and not particularly impressed by the claims that "hardship builds character". You'd like to talk to him a bit more about his presence, but Frederick's lessons leaves little breath to waste, and both of you are usually far too tired by the end of it. You can't but notice the fact that while his physical condition is very good, his will can be more fragile. There are several times where he simply gives up when you're pretty sure he could have kept going – and though he does a good job at keeping it hidden, you notice the small frown of disappointment of your father's guardian.
You try to push those concerns aside and focus on your own betterment. By now, you can feel yourself growing stronger, growing tougher. However, while your performances increase, you notice that recuperating from those lessons is beginning to take a bit longer. When you point out that fact to Lissa, she has a long talk with Frederick, before both of them come to see you. At this point, he explains, he believes it might be time to lighten up on your training. You've already in top physical condition for your age, trying to push yourself even more might end up being a problem for your growth. He is not giving up training you, he's quick to reassure you, but from now on, he believes a lighter schedule is preferable, until you grow up some more. You can't say you're happy about this, but you will have to trust the adults on this point.

[X] Sword training (ylissean royal style) (LOCKED)
Nonetheless, the benefits of your training are beginning to show. This is most noticeable during your sword lessons, where despite training with the same wooden blades as an adult, the weight is no longer a real problem to you – though the size still make it cumbersome. You manage to put a lot more power behind your strikes on the training dummies, going as far as outright breaking one of your swords during a particularly intense session. The expected reprimand from your father never comes, and you instead receive a smile and a "how nostalgic" comment. By now, you have no problem executing the strong strikes of the royal style, who almost have become instinctive.

[X] Path of the swordmaster
Nonetheless, this is only one facet of your sword training now. You are truly becoming proficient with the Chon'sin sword arts by now, a fact that is met with Lon'qu's approving nod. In that respect, your training with Say'ri have been quite helpful, as you find her form easier to mimic than the one of your current teacher. He doesn't seem to take offense to that, though, far from it. Each swordmaster worth its salt is bound to develop its own quirks and preferences, he explains. The fact that you're beginning to show clear preferences is the sign of your new understanding of the Blade.
By this point, the initial distance between the two of you have been greatly reduced. He's still reluctant to physical contact, but no longer give the impression of being able to bolt when you approach him. You also notice something strange about his stance – he seems to favour his right arm, but by closely observing him, you came to realize he was left handed. When you ask him about that, he tells you that he had his left arm broken in a fight long ago, and while he mostly recovered from that, it can still be a hindrance even to his day. As you wonder aloud which kind of opponent would have been skilled enough to inflict him such an injury, an ironic smile grows on his ace as he announces you it was done by your father.
You immediately protest that he would never have done that to an ally, but as Lon'qu explains, they were not ally back then – in fact, this was their first meeting. A tournament in Regna Ferox, from what you understand. As you timidly ask if he resents your dad for what happened, Lon'qu reassures you that this had been perhaps the finest duel he ever fought, and that his injury had been a small price to pay to have a part in such a memorable fight. And even with the handicap, he managed to survive two wars, so clearly it was all good. Now back to training, girl.

[X] Time to Tip the Scales
While physical training is one thing, as Robin is willing to remind you, the mind can be the sharpest weapon out there. Your lessons with him continue at an almost frantic pace, you and Laurent struggling to keep up with the rhythm. Nonetheless, your understanding of warfare is growing quite quickly. By now, the master tactician has taken the habit of submitting you seeingly random scenarios that an army might face, and have you designing a strategy to achieve the best possible outcome. While he's quick to point out the flaws in your suggestions, and holds no criticism back, his method is rather effective, you think.
Your prolonged interractions with the Grandmaster have you thinking about Nah and Morgan more and more. You find yourself almost asking about them several times, but still feel some reluctance openly breaching the subject. Robin seems rather touchy about his family, and these last months, he seems more and more on edge. You don't want to give him a reason to stop teaching you... but surely a simple question wouldn't hurt, now?

Random event : Yarne the stalker?
At first you thought it was just an impression born from your recent interractions during Frederick's training. But now, there's no doubt : you're meeting Yarne more often these days, seemingly at random. From him going in the same direction as you when you're walking through an halway, to him watching some of your courtyard training sessions("it might be educational!", he claims), rare are the days you're not seeing at least once these last weeks. … is he following you? You're not quite sure what to do about that. Should you even do something?
