Green Sun, Black Shadows (CG/Exalted)

I am not well versed in Exalted so I have to ask , couldn't we design a upgrade charm to remove the dowside of What Is And What Should Never Be ?

What would we need to do in advancing the goal of destroying Britannia to get a dot of essence via motivation completion? Cause honestly that sounds like an Essence 3 level motivation, could be an Essence 4 motivation if Britannia ruled a larger section of the world (read: almost all of it) or we decided to take over the world.

Well for us it is a large enough motivation and that is enough

A great homebrew Background revision of the Unwoven Coadjutor.

Of course, of course. It would make me incredibly happy if someone were to design custom Charms. Of course, you can't get only bonuses...

I am thinking of using this flatcost Xp chart. Thoughts?

Favoured or Caste/Not Favoured or Out-of-Caste

New Trait: (Xp Cost)+(Training Time)
Ability: 2/3 - Immediate/6 days
Specialty: 1/2 - Immediate/6 days
Charm: 8/10 - (Min. Ability) days/(Min. Ability + Min. Essence) days
Sorcery Spell: 8 - (spell circle) weeks

Improve Trait: (Xp Cost)+(Training Time)
Attribute: 6/7/8* - 1 month
Ability: 3/4 - Immediate/6 days
Specialty: 2/3 - Immediate/6 days
Essence: (current rating)x8 - If 2+ immediate, if 4+ (current rating) months
Virtue: 3 - Immediate
Willpower: 3 - Immediate
*(6 Xp to improve it from 1 to 3, 7 Xp to improve it from 4 to 7, 8 Xp to improve it from 8+)

Is fine i think. I would reduce the cost of spells though, first circle spells aren't worth as much as a charm. (Well, except summon demon)

No you aren't. You're way too low Essence and lacking in Charms for that.

At what point would it come into play?

I am not well versed in Exalted so I have to ask , couldn't we design a upgrade charm to remove the dowside of What Is And What Should Never Be ?

Yes and no. It's complicated. You can't really remove the drawback, at least not without adding some other drawback or losing some benefit. The thing about being an Infernal is that many of the Charms change you - you're becoming more than human and less at the same time. This is because you're literally taking pieces of the Yozis into yourself. The Yozis are literally made of Charms which reflect the concepts they embody. However, Green Sun Princes have a few benefits in that they can take Charms from any Yozi that has opened up their Charm set for use, so a GSP can become greater than the individual Yozis because they can embody multiple sets of concepts while also still having a human foundation that allows them to understand concepts outside of the Charms they've taken.

There are a few methods by which you could remove the downside of an Infernal Charm...

1. The Devil Tiger method - At Essence 6+, become a Devil Tiger and go down that Charm tree. This essentially lets you establish your own Charm set, and part of that is an option to remove the Charms you have for one Yozi, get the XP for that back, and then replace them with Charms from your custom set. However, the newly designed Charms must be designed as Infernal Charms and as such many of them will require sacrificing some amount of what makes you human, for good or ill, and it must be thematically appropriate with the new Charm set's conceptual theme.

2. Creating a custom charm upgrade - You can do this within the existing Charm tree. However, doing so will generally require you insert a different, still thematically appropriate thing that would likely be considered a drawback in a different manner. Also, the Yozi whose Charm set you are expanding gets this Charm, and it's also opened up to every other GSP.

3. Take a charm with a conflicting bonus/malus from a different Yozi - An example of this would be taking Witness to Darkness and Green Sun's Subtlety. The former makes it so you are never penalized by darkness and you get a really good bonus with deception/Manipulation, but in exchange you take a small penalty to actions when exposed to Creation's sun and get a severe penalty with honesty/Charm. The latter is the opposite, with you never being penalized due to bright light and being much better with straightforward, honest approaches, but getting a small penalty for acting in darkness and a severe penalty with deception and lies. By spending XP to get both, you will not be penalized in either light or dark, nor will you receive penalties to honesty or deception, but the bonuses for honesty and deception become small to balance things out. As such, expect that the usefulness of the Charm you're attempting to mitigate the drawback of will likely also come with the Charm being less powerful.

Also, something to keep in mind is that some of the sacrifices made for Charms aren't clear cut good or bad, and it comes down to personal preference whether you think they are worth it. One example is the Cecylne Charm Transcendent Desert Creature. The Charm makes it impossible for you to be tracked in a place of desolation by mundane means, makes you immune to the environmental hazards (like the heat of the desert sun), makes it so you can much more easily find food or water so long as it exists in the area, limits the problems caused by starvation and thirst, and gives you a perfect metabolism. And by perfect, I mean perfect. The change to your humanity is that you produce no waste. At all. You don't sweat, you don't pee, and you don't poop. That part is both a benefit and a drawback depending on the situation. As a drawback, people might notice if you never sweat when it's hot or wonder why you never go to the bathroom, and if someone wants to do an in-depth physical exam you're going to need to sneak in someone else's urine if they need a sample of that. Most people would probably think the benefits would outweigh the drawbacks there, but if you're trying to stay hidden and keep from being noticed...

Just a heads up, I'm attempting to create a custom charm.

Hope it works out...I've never done this before.

Good luck!

Alright my dear players, two news for you. The first is that soon it's sleep time and tomorrow I'm outside most of the day for mundane reasons. So you have all the time to discuss between yourself and sort things out, from Stunts to custom Charms.

Second, as some of you may have guessed you will meet other Infernals in the future: a Defiler who was blessed by Cytherea, a Slayer in love with Isidoros' Charms...that sorta thing. Interesting posts and discussion about hypothesis and/or why a certain combination is better than the rest may provide Xp.

Which is to say: amuse me and I'll reward you ;)

Also, something I found in the Broken Winged Crane:
HEARTHSTONES OF ORAMUS
MORTALITY-ENTANGLING GEM (MANSE 5)
This diamond-bright stone flickers in and out
of visibility. When its bearer would be killed by an
attack, it shatters in a breach of causality, so that
the bearer both does and does not die. The bearer
finds herself standing over her own corpse at the
beginning of the next scene, unaffected by the killing
blow. Magical possessions on the body are not
duplicated. This is a Blasphemy 5 effect.

Well good news is that I think I have what I want the charm to do. Just not sure on a name and a few other things

Alright, here it is

Cost: -
Mins: Essence 3
Type: Supplement
Keywords: None
Duration: permanent
Prerequisite Charms: What Is and What Should Never Be

The Dragon Beyond the World sees both Creation and the Impossible at once, his paradoxical and vast being allowing him to suffer no ill effect from that Which Is and what is Not without fail. The Prince attempts to emulates the Lord of Not, expanding his sight to gaze upon all that which is real and that which is Not without distraction. This removes the perception penalty while in creation from What is and What Should Never Be. However when looked upon with sorcerer's gaze(?) the Infernal's eyes shine with a kaleidoscope of impossible colors.

A Essence 4+ repurchasing this charm allows the Prince to see though all attempts at magical disguise, for he sees that which is and that which can not be. However mundane disguises require the usual roll for seeing though it.

This is the prototype. Feel free to tell me what's not right, illegal and such. I would like to hear people's opinions.

Also tell me if I step on the toes of another charm thanks

I think that thematically this Charm fits and it could be worked with, but there's a few issues IMO.

1. I'm not sure what you're meaning by sorcerer's gaze. If you mean that if someone is being looked at by the warlock (another name for Infernals) and that person and only that person look at the Infernal's eyes and sees the kaleidoscope of impossible colors, then might work. If it's only someone using a magical means of looking at the Infernal, that's probably not good enough. For the former, another option is that the kaleidoscope effect becomes more pronounced as the Infernal's Essence increases. Another way of handling this might be that the kaleidoscope effect is visible to everyone, but only when they look directly into the Infernal's eyes, and perhaps once noticed it becomes difficult for them to look away. (this would serve both as a means to distract but also come with the drawback of drawing notice to the Infernal)

2. The Essence 4+ repurchase to see through all magical disguise is too powerful because it is absolute. It completely negates charms like Loom-Snarling Deception regardless of differences in relevant Abilities, Attributes, or Essence rating. Instead, it would be best if this was handled somewhat in the opposite way of that Charm, providing a bonus to seeing through and/or detecting magical disguises. For instance, it might provide a free roll of (Perception + Awareness) plus (Essence) successes to pierce through the magical disguise, or just the flat opposite of Loom-Snarling Deception and providing (Essence) successes to any attempt to see through a magical disguise.

The name and text might also need some work, but that's something that can be hashed out without too much difficulty.

Sorcerer's Gaze- Things like All encompassing Sorcerer's sight, That was the intention at least but I meant change it before posting the Charm.

But your suggestion about the eye effect reminded me of my earlier build of this charm. I think I could add in the alien beauty charm we have to this one as a prerequisite to justify the effect and build up on it.

"However the Warlocks eyes shine with a kaleidoscope of impossible colors. The effect is only obvious when one looks the Prince in the eye directly. Doing so ensnares the watcher, making it difficult to look away. If the being fails a will power check to look away they build, or increase, a intimacy of fascination with the Infernal."

How does that sound?
------------------------------------------
On the matter of the disguise effect, yes your correct that it's broken for the level. That was a bad idea from the start with it.

Also the repurchase effect being the opposite of loom snaring works perfectly, to me at least.

The name and text...yeah it needs work. I had issue naming it at all so I'm not surprise it isn't very good.

Right, time to save Kallen, cause she's the only useful one and the rest are traitorous assholes. ... Okay, Ohgi's good middle-management I think, but other than that, they're just bodies to throw at a problem.

Not to mention, for Kallen, love interest and bunny suit. We must save her! :V You are now imagining Ohgi in a bunny-girl suit.
C.C, Orange Knight, Kallen and Sayako are top four loyalists, I think Kaguya is fine as long as Lelouch drown her in honey too.
I will gladly shoot Ougi for fucking listen to the enemy first instead of his superior-the guy who almost freed Japan if someone didn't butt in, okay I too will be lured by hot brown but come on, her country was colonizing yours. Couldn't he pump more blood into his brain?
What would we need to do in advancing the goal of destroying Britannia to get a dot of essence via motivation completion? Cause honestly that sounds like an Essence 3 level motivation, could be an Essence 4 motivation if Britannia ruled a larger section of the world (read: almost all of it) or we decided to take over the world.
I think freeing 1/3 of Britannia's colonies will give us Essence 3.

Well, more Infernals. That should be interesting. The question is whether or not they've Exalted yet, or if we Exalted first. Having a headstart is definitely an advantage in terms of getting them to join us, because we definitely want the other Infernals in our circle.

Now, as to why certain combinations are better... that's poppycock. Especially when you can homebrew charms. Better for certain things? Sure. But ultimately Infernals are very flexible and no combination is really invalid since it depends on what you want to do. So the real questions should be how awesome each combinations are be and how are they best used?

The Defiler with Cytherea charms will be interesting. Defilers are often mad scientist types, and while I'm not really all that familiar with Cytherea my understanding is that she's involved heavily in creating stuff or catalyzing it in some manner. As such I can see this person being a very powerful crafter who could make all sorts of goodies. This would synergize well with us getting Muse of Unearthly Delights to have them make unique items. I've got three possible candidates for this character from the named characters...

1. Lloyd. He's already a fucking mad scientist. He even has the insane personality. He cares more about his work than anything else, really, aside from maybe one or two personal relationships, and even those still take back seat. However, I'd put him as a rather weak candidate for Exalting as an Infernal for no other reason that I can't really see him failing so badly that he'd warrant an Infeneral intervention because of his position and having Schneizel's backing.

2. Rakshata. The other mad scientist. Not quite as insane, but still a mad scientist in her way. She got into the field she's in hoping to end war, so her motivation would meet ours in terms of trying to create a peaceful world. Also, she refers to her creations as her "children" so that motherly aspect might be something that would draw the interest of Cytherea. Also, being on the underdog side she's got a fair chance at failing at something.

3. Nina Einstein. This is paradoxically a candidate that I think is both a dark horse and likely at the same time. She's got a brilliant mind, in canon making both the in world equivalents of a nuke and an anti-nuke. She's also got the capacity to go bug fuck nuts when things don't go right. I can definitely see her failing in some manner that might warrant the Yozis' attention.

Now, the Slayer chosen by Isidoros... god good, that's gonna be someone who's really good in any kind of straight-up fight. This is the person we'd send to trample our enemies with hooves covered in radioactive green fire. They would seriously fuck them up. Two candidates...

1. Jeremiah Gottwald. The guy is straightforward and brash enough, and even though he's got a big loyalty thing going on he seems like he can do things quite independently. Just point him at what you want dead and don't try getting in his way. Seems like he'd be down for a bit of hedonism as well. He's also got ample opportunity to fail.

2. Kallen. I'd prefer her for the Lunar role (bunny ears are a must) but she could fit this role well enough, and she's got a brash and independent streak.

Which is to say: amuse me and I'll reward you ;)

Precious, precious XP!

Also, something I found in the Broken Winged Crane:

That's certainly something we need to get one of. Being able to cheat death is very nice. Heck, we could use it to fake our death in some circumstances.

But your suggestion about the eye effect reminded me of my earlier build of this charm. I think I could add in the alien beauty charm we have to this one as a prerequisite to justify the effect and build up on it.

I think that fits very well, especially with requiring the alien beauty Charm. The add of the Intimacy on a willpower check is also good, because it's double edged. On the one hand it's a possible way to draw someone in, but on the other if you can't they're likely to start snooping into your business which could be bad. You also don't necessarily know if the Intimacy was formed or not.

This bit of the Charm could also be expanded on with later Charms to add effects to those who stare into your eyes, like perhaps infecting them with the nightmares of Ululating Nightmare Wings next time they sleep, or some other impossible dreamscape determined by the Infernal.

I think freeing 1/3 of Britannia's colonies will give us Essence 3.

Liberating Japan alone might be enough.

This is pretty spot on. I Bet on Nina myself.

Not so sure about this one. It only considers possible recruits. There are many good fighters that fit here better than Kallen or Jeremiah. Like Luciano, who is basically a bundle of pure rage.

Due to Creation physics it needs to be Thematically Epic rather than Mechanically Epic. Instead of a hard number of freed colonies we need to get into an Epic battle, in whatever form, and take over/free a place from Britannia. Probably take over, because Yozi and our Urge, but a Solar could probably get away with Freeing for the Essence upgrade.

So Enjou's probably right, especailly considering what they went through in canon to do it.

Don't forget we have extra bonuses for new and unusual; tactics like stealing the enemy.

Luciono could fit an Isidoros Slayer, sure, and really he's exactly the type of person that the Yozis prefer for their mission to turn Creation into an expansion of Hell. He's certainly selfish enough for Isidoros. However, he isn't in Japan right now and canonically won't be for some time (though the canon rails are pretty much fucked, he'd still need pretty good reason to be called in), but the biggest thing is that he has to fail in a situation where winning is seemingly impossible to attract the Exaltation and then he has to accept the deal. He's one of the Knights of the Round, and unless he is sent to Japan soon his opportunities to fail enough to warrant an Infernal Exaltation seems pretty low given he'd have to lose very, very badly but still be alive, which would likely have to involve us and if he's an explicit personal enemy of one of their agents the Yozis may not want to Exalt him anyways.

For the Isidoros Slayer we may end up getting an original character. Or maybe Cornelia. She might have enough of an independent streak to warrant Isidoros's attention.

A Essence 4+ repurchasing this charm allows the Prince to reflexively roll (Perception + Awareness) plus (Essence) successes to pierce through magical disguises, for he sees that which is and that which can not be.

Now all I need is a better name and some text alteration.
