Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

Reading through this conversation, I have to comment that some of our guy's ideas and discussions are brilliant for what information you have.

Makes me feel a bit proud to be your QM to present these challenges.

Anyway, before I tally the votes I want to make a few comments:

Red Rose's ability to kill Lunar's Doom Sneak is actually tied into her specialty of killing other Magical Girl-level combatants. And stands as the reason she held her position of #2 in the old Guard while these two were 6 & 7. The hint isn't some hidden ability as Gore's been implying, it's actually her hidden Spell that Nepgear knows is there but can't remember the specifics of.

As it is, if you weren't trying to take them alive, she could have killed them both in about three turns.

Is it safe to assume that the Goddesses are more skilled than they were at the time of White Soul's death, allowing for more effective use of their power? Basically, I'm asking stuff like if Gold already had her extremely fine control over the power of her spells back then.
They're more skilled, but that's not the standing problem.

At the time White Soul was #1, literally everyone was under the impression (except the Old Guard who knew the exact specifics of her abilities) that she was out and out unkillable. As in there was no one capable of killing her at all. This was (semi-ironically) "proven" a short time after she went off reservation and became a sociopath.

White Soul fought Goddess Gold, and survived.

The specific events around the scuffle I won't state, but Rei found herself intercepting White Soul outside of a backwater town where she was planning on killing a whole lot of people. The resultant fight was short, Rei "confirmed" her inability to actually kill White Soul, and sent the former #1 scurrying away.

What Rei doesn't know, and what I'm saying on the matter, is that she sent her scurrying away with her tail between her legs.

Thing is, Rei could kill White Soul. The problem is she had both a lack of information, as well as a pre-existing "belief" that there was no real way to kill her. So instead of actually trying to kill her, she simply focused on trying to drive her away.

(The funny part is, she almost killed White Soul anyway and that scared the ever loving shit out of the woman.)

makes sense, this is very much the kind of setting where something that could tank a nuke to the face might be vulnerable to bullets in the right circumstances.

I mean look at nep, she's all but unkillable but a medium strength kill spell keyed off of the targets hp would drop her at the start of a fight easy.

Wasn't actually trying to imply that. Sorry to everyone if it came off that way.
If it makes you feel better know that I used the energy from being angry at you to finish the next update of UtOS.

(I may have been a bit attached to the idea of having Brilliant Key beat Solar Radiance senseless . And you went overboard when you put Superslayer on doom Snek, couldn't you have just let the stat increases from Stone Cold and Hydra Problem make that turn into an issue?)

I modelled it after a incredibly dangerous attack from a very bad fiction. And it's level 200, it should have one Super-Ability.

Also, it could have been worse: Crystal wanted it to be immune to magic, and I wanted to give it an anti-Aura ability.

We didn't even use all the XP making the thing.

The finalized mechanics of Gaia's Modifier Roll for her Instant Evolution is that half of it is the amount of XP the target gets pumped full of for the "evolution". I think the Doom Snake still had 6,000 XP left after our spending binge.

And I wawanted a TPK notch on my character's belts. But we, mostly Crystal I think, decided to let this turn end early.

And all of you laughed when Crystal said it be ten rounds before you could vote again.

Would anyone like to run a vote count? I'm fairly certain that Desperation won, but it'd be best to have an official tally to make sure.

Here's a vote tally. As I suspected, Plan Desperation is the winner.

Vote Tally : Original - Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest! | Page 585 | Sufficient Velocity

-[X] Brilliant Key is to continue casting her healing spell whenever necessary.

True, I didn't think there would be anything left of Team GEAR after ten rounds in biting range of doom snek. And Red Rose would start having problems if Gabriel and Brilliant Key dropped (until she killed them, anyway.). With the +125% from Stone Cold and Hydra it should deal 31.5k to Lucky and Gabriel, 33.8k to Solid Core, and 18.9k to everybody else that isn't Red Rose (~600 to Red Rose by my guess). (That's enough to drop them from full Health, if you were going to check.)

Is there a reason Unstoppable didn't trigger when it attacked Gabriel?

Do you have any hints as to what's going through Solar's and Lunar's heads right now? My guess is that they can see plainer than day that Solid Core and entourage are planning something, our team survived hits that should have left them painting the walls and Solid Core is emitting baleful radiation. If I were running them I would have Lunar attack each group and Solar follow up on those attacks expecting Lunar to have her attacks negated. Basically try to pick off Solid Core, Lucky, and Gabriel, since they are the most dangerous to Solar Radiance and simpler to kill than negate.

The seal makes me wonder if this is even seen as a severe fight by the two of them. If it was they should be treating Red Rose with more attention. Say, constricting her or trying to disarm her. On the other hand their attacks would have been lethal but for Echo of Peace and Core Connection. Is the need to make their goals match Goddess Red disrupting their tactics?

It occurred to me that after spending over six hundred thousand EXP it has defenses only slightly better than Solid Core does. Arguably the Snek's defenses aren't even better :V.

You'd have to ask Crystal about that one.

I don't know what's going on with them actually. I was brought in on consultation as my character sheets were... not the best. As they were made early on, before we found out how bullshit they needed to be to compete. After that I was brought in and I told Crystal the concepts that I had in mind when making them. Crystal took those ideas and fucking ran with them.

As for the tactics and boss fight itself... I'm not really a part of that discussion so much. More Crystal, and Gore sometimes, came in with a thought or idea of what they might be doing or how the battle was going and I offered some input. *Shrug* I really couldn't tell you much, and what I do know I don't want to spoil for you guys.

Lunar and Solar are unique in one aspect that might be affecting how they act here though that I can think of. They have Patrons. One's who fucked with their affinities, and thus minds, as can be kind of seen on their char sheets.

So who else hopes that Red Rose will manage to discover Solar's Control Seal quickly, before Red has to put down Solar lethally? I know I'm hoping that, and I'm hoping that Sam's stunning spell will work in Solar.

So I've been playing World of Final Fantasy, and it's a pretty decent game! I'm thinking about making MGs of the two main characters, albeit with some tweaking. So with that in mind...

@crystalwatcher, could Myth and/or Legend be used as a primary or secondary Affinity? Like, used in the "this character's magic revolves around mythological things" sense? Because the only semi-appropriate Affinity I've seen is Fairy Tale, and that doesn't quite have the right thing to me.

Fiction?

Rather obvious loophole would be to go for a "Mythology" affinity instead of "Myth".

"Fable" might also work.
