[X] [React] They appease the elders by launching a surprise invasion of the Zaradysh.

War will lead to martial innovation. No government change, under any circumstances!

[X][React] They continue Mairyn's preparations for a war with the Forluc.

I dont think getting them as a vassel with our military was a good idea anyway. Could have gone slow and steady intergration. We do stay as allies right?

Why is that anyway? Why cant we have a non aggression pact or something?

You don't have any formal agreements with them. So far, everything has been informal and done via the personal union that Mairyn gave you. Without her, none of those agreements will still be valid and therefore they will cease upon her death unless you keep up the personal union.

Switching to hereditery monarchy just to keep one vassel seems odd to me since the Arthwyd don't really have a thing for planting their flag unless it's to neutralize a potential threat or to build more villages so the traditinal ways are fine.
I'd go for metal but I doubt we can push bronze hard enough to discover, produce and equip our troops before hostilities break out so its more troops for me.

[X] [Cadlon] They simplify the matter by switching to same method of succession as the Raradysh. (Switch to Early Ancient Theocratic Heredity Monarchy, Greatly improves relations with the Raradysh, Improve relations with lowlander cultures, -1 Legitimacy, ???)

[X] [React] They take measures to support the Arthwydish territory in the lowlands.

It was entirely possible that Mairyn would be succeeded by two different Cadlons and if that were to occur, it would completely undermine the Raradysh being part of the Arthwyd Empire.
@Oshha can't we do this? The Raradysh have their own succession system and the Arthwyd cadlon rules over them. The shahanshah to their satrap.

Also, how come they have Very Low dependance? They're right next to the expansionist, slave-taking Forluc.

That would be the outcome of this option should you win the resulting war:
[] [Cadlon] They elect a more qualified priestess to be the new Cadlon of the Arthwyd and force the Raradysh to stay. (Go to war with the Raradysh, ???)

If you want the Raradysh to remain subordinate to the Arthwyd without keeping the personal union up, you will need to military defeat them first. The Raradysh are fine having their Cadlon being the same individual as your Cadlon, but they don't want their Cadlon to be subordinate to the Arthwydish Cadlon. To get a set up like that, you will need to set up by force or at least if you want it right now. You might be able to get them as a subordinate diplomatically without resorting to violence, but that would take time and effort.

also, how come they have Very Lowe dependance? They're right next to the expansionist, slave-taking Forluc.

They don't need any assistance from the Arthwyd to support themselves. You could cut them loose and they would be fine for self-sufficiency.

I think the scope of what Dependence covers is too limited and that you should expand it. It's a measure of how much a vassal needs to stay with us for its own well being and there should be factors to that beyond merely how much food they grow. If without us they will suffer death, slavery, and greater humiliation, that should be greater incentive to stay with us even if they don't actually like us any more.

Dependence is meant to represent how interconnected and reliant a subordinate is upon their overlord. Factors like relying upon their overlord for valuable materials (like food or bronze tools) or having a interconnected bureaucracy would increase independence. Outside stuff like how vulnerable they would be to invasion or third party interference don't factor into determining dependence. A subordinate who is dependant on their overlord would suffer troubles with their economy or government or something long those lines while one that isn't dependant could lose their overlord and not suffer internal problems.

Ultimately it isn't a measure of how much a vassal needs to stay with its overlord, but a measure of how much of the vassal's society is dependant on their overlord. A subordinate relying upon their overlord to provide their military forces would make them more dependant, but being threaten by a third party wouldn't make a subordinate more dependant on their overlord if the vassal can still see to their own defences without aid from their overlord.

@Oshha is this a main action or a secondary?

EDIT:
@Oshha I think this should be 8 (8). We start with temp 4, lost 1 from working on the temple, gained 1 from Main Train Sacred Warriors, gained 2 from Secondary Train Sacred Warriors, and gained 2 from the census.

4-1+1+2+2=8.

Okay, you got no martial innovations, but the Merntir got really lucky when it comes to metal as they both found three new mine locations and discovered alloys (even if they haven't got any useful alloys yet). Beyond that, things have been peaceful as while war is on the horizon, no one wants to kick start it just yet.

Beyond that, you got a potential succession crisis to deal with and your mid-turn actions before the next main turn comes about. For those wondering, Mairyn is an old lady in her nineties who only has another year or two left to live.
...no war and a succession crisis. Really should have done some social engineering on the Raradysh.

Letting the Raradysh go would be kindness right up until the point where the Forluc annex them. And while switching to hereditary monarchy might open up a route to peace with the Forluc, our civ was kinda built on a bedrock of egalitarianism.

[X] [React] They appease the priesthood by planting another sacred forest.
[X][React] They make efforts to study metal and look for more of it.

I'd rather not go to war with the Forluc just yet. Not without an innovation.
Metal could be good for the chance of innovation, though I'd personally prefer to finish the Priest quest and grab the Nature innovation(which might let our Infrastructure policy flip to walls or temples).

Main Train Sacred Warriors to fulfil the Warrior quest.
[X] [React] They continue Mairyn's preparations for a war with the Forluc.

Good enough.
