Also, I don't think anyone has picked this up yet, but it looks like Schreiber grew up and lived in East Germany during the Cold War, from the mention of the Nationale Volksarmee, the armed forces of the German Democratic Republic, or as we know it as East Germany, marching through his hometown.

Makes me wonder how WW2 would have changed if Japan and Germany hadn't allied.
Bare minimum? Suddenly it becomes a
lot harder to justify war with Germany. If Germany is supporting China, then they're supporting the theoretical
ally that we're trying to support too. And since the average American will be much more interested in fighting Japan, and since Hitler is not an
idiot and would likely condemn Japanese aggression* if he chose to support Chiang instead...
No German declaration of war, public opinion more tilted towards revenge for Pearl, a Hitler who is likely to see a chance to keep America out of the war by condeming the Japanese...even a President with as much power as Roosevelt would have issues ending up at war in Europe in that situation. Not to say it wouldn't happen, but still. Assuming Hitler didn't do a dumb and still declare war on America, but I don't see that happening.
*mind you without the Tripartite Pact saying that Germany would support them, the Japanese may take the risk of
just going after the European colonies and not attacking Pearl. Hard to say.
