Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Since the people that have been complaining about how the S9 are being dealt with (for weeks) don't seem to understand the reasoning behind this decision, here's the reasoning.

The delay with the CF vs S9 has nothing to do with either the CF or the S9, it has everything to do with the Thinker Predictions of individuals and groups outside the situation. The only ones who know that Apeiron can fake out thinker predictions are the CF. Apeiron wants the entire world to think that only those who pick a fight with the CF will be attacked by the CF. People assuming that thinkers can predict the CF is a security blanket that prevents panic.

If the CF attacks the S9 before they are close enough to Brockton Bay to be considered a threat to Brockton Bay, then EVERY Thinker in the WORLD will know that they CANNOT PREDICT the Celestial Forge. With how terrified everyone is of the CF this panic could start WW3 amongst other panic induced consequences. If the CF waits until the S9 are close enough to Brockton Bay to be considered a threat to Brockton Bay, then the Thinkers will still believe that they can predict the CF.

This decision by Apeiron is a political move that leans into PR. If you feel skeptical then reread the Chubster Interlude. Please stop complaining about how Apeiron is manipulating the S9, it's annoying. It's especially annoying when all the complaints about this either don't understand or completely ignore the real reasoning for this decision. If you are going to complain about Joe's decision to wait for the S9 to come to him, at least include the proper reasoning so that you don't come across as someone not paying attention to the story you're reading.

Took maybe 20 minutes to write this d*mn post not including the bathroom break and reading new posts, this is exhausting I definitely prefer lurking.

Victor can't succeed because his goal is to resurrect a person who's soul he doesn't have access to.

Uber can succeed because March's soul is hosted in her Shard.
Slight correction: Victor won't succeed because he'll try to get his dead girlfriend's soul through Truth instead of from where it's stored in her shard. I sort of expect Uber will make a similar mistake, but maybe he'll mange to do things correctly. They think Alchemy is based on parahuman principles, so it never even occurs to them that they need to manually change the method they're using to reach the targeted soul. From the WoG repository:

LordR: If Victor had perfect understanding of both the limits of human transmutation and the nature of shard space then he might be able to resurrect a parahuman without dealing with Truth. Unfortunately, he's flying blind and the only way he's going to learn about those aspects of the resurrection process is by making the attempt. He is working from previous examples of parahumans being returned to life, but approaching it completely through the lens of alchemy. It doesn't matter if his first love's soul is technically stored in her shard rather than beyond the gate, he's going to Truth to get the soul, so Truth will be the one demanding the price. Specifically, truth will be informing him of the value of a soul compared to what he could offer in exchange.
Anyway, I'm sure March's plan to attain godhood by using an unstable Simurgh'd proto-Endbringer can only go well for her. On the off chance she actually manages to get that far, I hope Noelle decides to turn the tables on her and anyone else participating in it by instead having the clones drain the originals. If Noelle really wanted to, she could even have her loyal super-Butcher clone get passed through all the other super-clones to either build up a single really powerful minion or just kill the clone herself. Noelle with super-March, super-Butcher, super-Bakuda, and whoever else she adds to the mix... Maybe that could actually be mildly difficult for Joe to deal with.

As it stands, though, Joe will probably raid Coil before any shenanigans happen.

True, at least the only one of that group inclined to tell anyone is March. But people won't believe March because they would think that she is directing attention away from her spoofing thinkers to Apeiron spoofing thinkers. Which is funny because people originally thought it was Apeiron spoofing thinkers, until they realized it was March, but now that they have realized that March can spoof thinkers Apeiron has gained the ability to spoof thinkers right as they believe he is innocent of spoofing thinkers :rofl2:.

Are You Really an Angel? (Spidey_phd)
The more the Workshop expands, the more I expect it'll be perfect to transform part of it into a shelter and city for evacuees of major events.
Because when Leviathan shows up, having a majority of Brockton Bay moved into a newly built city inside the Workshop for both their safety and to keep them housed and fed.

Joe needs to have the Matrix create a Fake Karakura Town in the Workshop.

Plus, imagine the hilarious POVs.

___

"So Leviathan was attacking, the Endbringer sirens wailing, and I was trapped outside in the street with my grandmother."

"Grandma had serious lung problems. She needed to be on oxygen constantly and rarely left the apartment."

"I was trying to help her get to the nearest shelter. The streets were a mess. Abandoned cars everywhere. Rain pouring down like it came from a firehose."

"Grandma didn't even want to leave her apartment and try to get to the shelter. It took me a while to convince her. Once we were in the street and she saw how bad it was she tried to make me leave her and run to the shelter by myself."

"I stayed with her. You don't abandon family, you know?"

"We were almost to the shelter when we heard the wave. We knew that Leviathan likes to hit cities with tsunamis. But it didn't look like a wave. It looked like a mountain. We both just froze and stared."

Then my grandma pushed me. "Run, child!" she screamed. "Leave me. Save yourself!"

"But I knew it was already too late. Not just for me but for all of Brockton Bay. So I just held my grandmother close and cried as I waited for the tsunami to hit."

"Suddenly, there was a flash of light and the wave was gone. The storm had disappeared. It felt like a sunny summer day."

"The city literally started repairing itself before my eyes. Abandoned cars were sliding into the nearest available parking lots. The water disappeared from the gutters. All of the trash and dirt vanished."

"Then one of Apeiron's flying drones dropped down from the sky. It shone a purple beam of light over my grandmother while I just stood there, gaping. Grandmother stopped gasping for air. Later the doctor told us that the drone had cured her COPD. Cured! In seconds Apeiron's drone had fixed a problem which had debilitated her for over a decade."

"It was like God had finally remembered Brockton Bay and reached down from the heavens."

"When we were finally transported back to Earth-Bet, learning about what had happened with Leviathan was huge news but it almost seemed anticlimactic in a way. We had already seen, already felt, a real miracle."

"As soon as we got home, Grandmother insisted we make a shrine dedicated to Apeiron. You know, out of respect and gratitude. We didn't really pray at the shrine but Grandma set up her old laptop next to it and insisted that we all get on PHO to defend Apeiron from all of the negative media."

"A week later, I got hit by a car while crossing the street. Guy was texting while driving."

"Then I ended up here. Where ever here is."

"Is this heaven? Because the temples are gorgeous, the giant dinosaur mechs are awesome, and I love the food. But I didn't expect to see the Celestial Forge here."

"So, are you really an angel or what?"

Everyone keeps saying that Victor will get fucked over by Truth but doesn't Joe need to roll Truth first for that to happen?

Nah. If Alchemy exists so is The Truth. Joe would simply meet Truth without an absolutely horrific price if he roll the perk but theoretically nothing stops him from trying resurrection and meeting Truth the normal way.

People seem to think that Uber will be running into Truth. Which... I guess that can happen, if he makes a mistake, but as far as I understand FMA alchemy, manipulating souls is completely fine. You can put them in stones and use them as batteries, you can even put them back in their bodies if those bodies are still intact. In fact that will happen naturally. Souls want to return to their bodies if that's an option. You can bind them to objects, have them pilot suits of armor around, and put multiple souls in the same body. There's nothing stopping an alchemist from messing around with souls to their heart's content.

Uber's goal is completely possible.

As long as he knows what he's doing, that is.

It's a ridiculously difficult procedure, more complex than anything anyone but Father and maybe Hoenheim did in the canon show. Fixing a body as messed-up as March's is basically on the level of Homonculus creation, and transfering her soul from her shard and into her newly built body may be as difficult as the Ling-Greed transformation was, and Uber, unlike Father, isn't a knowledge spirit born from the living universe, nor does he have centuries of experience with alchemy and a philosopher's stone 500.000 souls strong.

But he does have a parahuman shard, which we all know are completely bullshit.

And the fact that March's Shard is probably all for resurrecting March means he might actually be able to manage it.

Truth doesn't block human transmutation. Truth steps in when you're going against the laws of nature. That's what Truth is. Truth are the laws of nature, and one of those laws seems to include the cycle of souls. You can't call souls back from the afterlife. At least not with alchemy, because there is no equivalent exchange. There can't be. Souls are invaluable, and they're uniquely invaluable, so you can't even sacrifice one soul to get another.

That's not a problem if the relevant soul is within your grasp though. Then you can manipulate it just fine as long as you know the rules.

Victor can't succeed because his goal is to resurrect a person who's soul he doesn't have access to.

Uber can succeed because March's soul is hosted in her Shard, and her Shard is probably helping.
If Uber was trying to get her soul with Alchemy, he's doomed to fail not just because they're uniquely invaluable, her soul is also not there. Alchemy is aimed at the wrong Afterlife, he couldn't get her soul from there even if he could break every rule of alchemy.

"No." She said sharply, waving her hand in a cutting motion. Hemorrhagia gave her a concerned look. "They were trying for a while, but since this morning they've been quiet. I have things under control."

The Butcher suddenly froze mid-gesture as a soft light and warm tone filled the office. Hemorrhagia stared at the source of the disturbance. A glowing node of crystal, suspended in the air by the Butcher's right hand.
Rest in pieces. Looks like #3 and #7 has been gaining influence over Butcher. They even got the confirmation that because the current living Butcher is in charge because they are the 'biggest.'
I could have provided a complete translation, though some of the context would have been lost in converting to spoken English. That would have been difficult to explain and didn't really seem to be necessary.
Glad to see the fashion translator is almost done.
Actually, she was extending her power much further than what she had previously demonstrated. The upgrades to her gloves from Feel It Out was evident as her telekinesis had expanded in range, strength, and precision. As the opening demonstration it was more than enough to hold the crowd's attention.
Protectorate is seeing Garment's growing ability as a confirmation of the cluster theory with the Celestial Forge doesn't they.
When she explained that her sister had already given her a detailed breakdown of the program based on her meeting with Parian… well, she didn't actually swoon, but I might need to talk to Survey about what was clearly becoming more than the incidental attraction her identities tended to draw.
Parian may even think that Delphine likes her advances or their talk since she explained Parian's program to Tetra beforehand.

Thanks for the chapter. I'm always thankful for your work Roust! Cheers!

Exactly!

And that was just a perfect blurb there. And honestly? Something they should do. Matrix alone could make some Fake Karakura to keep people safe. They have a fucking continental space to play with.

Time to make a shelter for all mankind if needed. With end of scarcity level supplies. Because Star Trek tech was like one of the first big techs he got.

To clarify: In Wildbow's grimderp universe, if someone triggers and becomes a parahuman then their identical twin also triggers by default and gets the same power? Do they also get the Kiss/Kill dynamic?

Kaiser is proud to show off his "masculine prowess" by displaying Fenja and Menja on his arms. The twins were raised by Heath, Kaiser's first wife, which effectively means that he was the twins' stepfather. Not creepy at all.

Othala is still a teenager now. How old was she when she married Victor? She's seemed fairly submissive until now. Does Victor expect her to accept a polygamous marriage if he succeeds?

Is it weird that I suddenly kind of respect Cricket? The E88 seem to want their girls to be submissive and obedient little girls. Then there is Cricket clinging onto her kamas in the middle of a bunch of superpowered Nazis. I hope she keeps traditional kata nomenclature and theatens anyone who tries to make her change her "aesthetics".

Twin triggers are not the same thing as cluster triggers. I believe they actually both have to be in the triggering situation, though that may just be a guess. Anyway, twins triggering with the same power is basically a lazy shard looking at a trigger event and thinking, "Well, it's basically one person in two places at once, and if they can be in two places at once, that's twice the chance for [DATA], so yeah, sure, here ya go." They don't do this more often and more liberally, because there are rules of engagement they are being held to.

Fenja and Menja are twin capes, and rather lucky ones. There are those case 70s like Capricorn in Ward where the twins are forced to share one body. Kinda like the Shard took a look at them and said, "You're have two bodies. You're not supposed to have two bodies. Have one body. Here's your power. Make [DATA]."

Uber nodded with a wide grin on his face. "Oh yeah. It's gonna be more than enough. We'll have it ready to go." He paused for a second and glanced to the side before clearing his throat. "I'll make sure of it."
I am just enjoying the set up for the Schadenfreude. Enough? Uber, honey, it's been.....what? A week? The 3 days tech is still very much a thing and Apeiron already has hard counters for that little Metaverse thing of Leet's

Not sure how I feel about massively overcomplicating the S9 situation. I get that he wants to make an example of them and crush their efforts trivially as part of that, but he could've achieved the goal so much easier with some common sense.
That is true......however this is not about being efficient. This is about "PRESENTATION"......and elaborate revenge....in a sense....no, more like mercy killing.
He wants to make the extermination of the 9 a spectacle, something everyone will see and go, "Ok he just killed the Murder hobo band that has been terrorizing America for as long as people can remember, the one not even the Triumvirate could bag.......and he made it a freaking spectacle with music accompaniment."

Omake idea; Someone or even an entire group gets pulled out of the way of the Slaughterhouse, and basically kept in the workshop for about 70 hours (outside time) so they don't accidentally leak info.

Both twins don't experience a trigger event if they have the same power. Basically for all they get refered to as space whales or worms computers are a more appropriate comparison for shards. Due to this they are so dumb that they use dna to track hosts and basically consider people with similar enough dna such as clones or twins to be multiple terminals or instances of the same being so they hook them up with the same power.

They don't experience kiss/kill but have other dangers such as if they are close enough when the trigger occurs the shard gets confused and case 70s them. That essentially means their bodies get overlayed so that only one can be out and about at any time while the other is trapped unable to move or do anything except experience things through the others senses. They also can switch but only as the one in the front seat choosing to step back. The only real advantage to it is the two get similar but different powers. Clones also have issues with getting bleed from the original and it being possible for the original or other clones to posses them.

Othala is young because Victor was supposed to marry her older sister to marry into the clan but she died so Othala took her place.

Ohhh, the plot thickens.

I had honestly counted out March faction from being much of a problem, but if she is messing around with Echidna clones and artificial triggers+extra connections to passengers we might end up with some type of Titans showing up - which would be an even bigger mess than an Endbringer attack and something that actually is a challenge for Apeiron. Not from a raw power perspective but from the side effects and potentially uncontrolled dimensional breach that has to be managed with no warning. Basically a big out-of-left-field mess that forces him to improvise while the rest of Earth Bet loses their minds and generally panics.

Fun times! 😈

Plus Apeiron gets to have a big "I told you so!" moment if March lets loose a Titan, because this was exactly the type of thing he went after her to stop. Except the whole 'Breaking the Ice' mess in Ward was even worse than creating a single Titan.

The S9 are not being handled now so that LordR can do the following, IMO.

I don't really like the… pacing isn't the right word… I'm not sure how to describe but it feels like Lord is making way too many plot threads or different ideas and not developing any of them. It might just be an effect of how rapidly events are occurring in story but it feels like if someone few out a time line there would be a exponential growth curve in events over time.

This is exactly LordR's plan, IMO. He wants to tie up all the threads at one time.

To show that the MC & his team can solve everything in one big battle scene. Show it to the reader and to the Protectorate & the world at the same time.

Handling the:
S9
Teeth
Coil
March
Bacuda
Uber & Leet
at a minimum.
Plus
E88
Merchants
+ anyone else I forgot

all being curb stomped in one big fun scene that goes on for 100K+ words.

BTW, next chapter is going to be Chapter 100 according to the threadmarks. 🥳👏 I'm going to celebrate by doing a slow re-read of the whole fic all the way from the start. Which probably will take about two weeks unless I binge it...

Lord's stance on the matter boils down to: if Emma could trigger, she would do so in ABB alley. As she did not, it means she just can't.
All that means is that she wasn't being monitored as a potential host at that time, or if she was it wasn't the right type of trigger for the shard that was watching her. Taylor probably wouldn't have gotten powers in Emma's place, either because it wouldn't fit any of QA's preferred triggers or because QA was still monitoring Danny at that point.
Honestly I'm surprised that Bakuda is struggling with anti-cancer research as much as she is; I would have thought that the dimensionally exotic equivalent of Chemo would be a lot easier then, for instance, a bomb that interacts with nervous-systems to the exclusion of all other kinds of tissue. I'd expect it to knock out all of her senescent cells, or even just lagging-behind or inefficient cells, while it's at it as well.
I think there are two main reasons. First, Bakuda's power excels when she's making lots of random stuff in a fugue and fielding said untested bombs. If she's even capable of making a 'cure cancer bomb', I suspect her ideal research process would involve going to an oncology ward, stripping machines for parts, and testing the bombs on people with cancer until she finds one that works. Even with access to good equipment, being stuck in a pocket dimension is very much not conducive to her methodology.

Secondly, sometimes I've seen her power misstated as delivering arbitrary shaker effects, but that leaves out the fact that she doesn't get to pick what those effects are, and every single one she's displayed is offensive or destructive in nature. She can make very exotic bombs, bombs that clearly use tech which would be better suited for constructive purposes, but a healing "bomb" that doesn't also give you cancer might be too far out of specialty for her.
But since March is technically still very much alive and just pilots her body from other place it might be completely fine to drag her soul back from Shardspace and shove it back into her body
No, her whole issue is that she's technically very much dead and is puppeting her own corpse from the afterlife.
