... You know, I've got my eye on that Salamander Lich... assaulting his fortress could be our first big mission with Amrelath in the Plane of Fire. I want those anti-aberration relics.

Speaking of... @DragonParadox, how many halfdragon children does Relath have now?
Yes, we did. It's some fine cheese! None of that industrial english crap! This was hand-made by a team of quarreling (drunk?) old men, comme en Provence!

I'll do some planar rumors towards the end of the month.

As you fly alongside Amrelath over the Stepstones and beyond, hidden from overly-curious eyes by the veil of clouds, you find in him an odd though not unwelcome dichotomy. He is skilled in sorcery beyond what one might expect of a dragon of his apparent size and power, but all those arts he turns to battle. Whether to confound a foe's blows or give him more strength Amrelath is a warrior before he is is scholar, a duelist in the air and fierce fighter on the ground who wins not by flame or sorcery but fang and claw. His long ages of imprisonment have not left him unmarked in mind or spirit, even once he has left the Shadow Tower far behind the chill of the grave hangs around him, and at times the sun casts his shadow not as the dragon he is now young and filled with life but as the misshapen skeletal form he had been cursed with.
Thankfully he seems to pay little mind to these small imperfections in the return to life, calling them 'scars' and counting himself all the better for it as he yet lacks the ones he had earned in his first life. Yet not all scars can be seen easily, much less dismissed. Once he had taken flight Amrelath proved reluctant to take human form even for a moment, arguing that it has been too long since he has been free to fly and hunt or coil on a warm rock to give it up.
However, the offer to enter Yss' temple and speak with the God's herald himself, a echo of long vanished divinity, proves enticing enough for him to shed his scales. He moves through the whispering halls heavy with mist and incense with all the certainty one might expect of a wyrm, yet when the corridor narrows his gaze begins to wander. It seems Amrelath fears being entombed anew...
Were he a mortal man you might have offered comfort or advice, but for a wyrm such an act would be nothing more than a show of contempt, a cruel jest to be played upon the weak. Perhaps some day he might come to know you enough to speak of fears and sorrows. For certain you have more hope for him now than you did mere days ago. His curse and binding had done little to curb his disdain for 'lesser beings,' but they had taught him patience and a certain appreciation for justice as more than merely the whims of the mightiest. The offer to abide by your 'laws' had not been carelessly chosen.
Amrelath the Ash-Risen
Name: Amrelath Age: Roughly 6000 Years Alignment:Likely Neutral Evil Race: Dragon (True, Red). Sovereign Archetype: Loredrake Feats: Multiattack, Versatile Spellcaster, Power Attack, Rapidstrike (Claws), Improved Rapidstrike (Claws), Improved Rapidstrike (Wings), Beast Strike, Flyby Attack, Flyby Breath, Strafing Breath, Flaws (Haunted, Claustrophobia) Skill Tricks: Collector of Stories, Swift Concentration Senses: Low-Light Vision, Darkvision (120 ft), Blindsense (60 ft), Keen Senses (4x as far in low light, twice as far in normal light) Speed: 40ft, Fly 150ft (poor) Languages Spoken: Draconic, Ignan, Infernal, Abyssal, High Valyrian
Gear:Amulet of Protection from Evil, Soulfire Bracers, Anklet of Translocation (with 3/day Lion's Charge), Crown of Untarnished Glory (+2 Cha, +2 Int, +1 Wis), Earring of Arcane Acuity, Greater Ribbon of Disguise, Interplanar Whispering Brazier, Muleback Cords, Ring of Sustenance, Monk's Belt (with Healing Belt effect and +3 Con, +2 Dex, +1 Str), Plane Shift Talisman (2/day), Ring of Mighty Fists (+3), Bag of Holding Type IV (with Gentle Repose effect), Scrolls: Life Bubble (x2), Panacea (x4), Teleport (x2)
As the sun slips past its zenith you call out: "I fear this shall have to be the last of our flights for a while, cousin." Much to your surprise there is a grain of sincerity to the words. You had enjoyed the flights, the chance to share your thoughts on the world and what may yet be made of it. "Fly as you will through my lands, but I ask that you be discreet in your acts. In a world all but bereft of dragons any glimpse of one might upturn plans long in the making."
"I will fly high and hunt in lonely places, and should I desire the company of mortals I will seek it in the guise one of their own," he vows. A handsome offer, and yet you would still rather he stay closer to Sorcerer's Deep for a while longer. Fortunately you can think of just the place to snare his attention...

The library bustles with activity from students rushing about with their heads bowed over scribbled lists to foreign scholars looking around in wonder at the tall shelves laden with lore mundane and mystical. You catch sight of a Summer Islander in striped robes chatting with a man wearing padded armor and moving with a warrior's gait, though at his neck you spy a glint of metal that marks a maester's chain. For such a moment you feel a flash of worry, then you recall who the guardians of this place are. Lotus spirits are wise as they are thoughtful, and devils ever with an eye for treachery.
"Strange to see those such as them sorting books," Amrelath motions to a Fury, veiled in mortal seeming.
"How did you know?" you ask, surprised that he had so unerringly picked out the devil from amid the library's merely mortal assistants.
"I guessed," he shrugs, the gesture slightly exaggerated from long disuse. "She walks with the gait of one in the habit of going over or through obstacles rather than around them."
As you help Amrelath choose books to help him understand the living world he has found himself within, you also discover new writings not found in some forgotten trove but put to parchment by your companions and allies. You find yourself intrigued by a book on shadow-weaving from Teana, as much a book on the philosophy of truth and lies as one of magic. However, it is a tome of dragonlore that references the history of Valyria catches your companion's eye.
Voice of Shadow
Description: At first glance one can tell this book was written in some manner of cypher, though not as a protection but as a test for one looking to understand shadow-weaving, lies and trickery made true in the mind of those subjected to them. One must first acknowledge the many veils that define human existence, from language to the very senses themselves.
Content: A mage who studies the book for one week, making a DC 18 Intelligence or Wisdom check in the process, can have his or her Shadow Descriptor illusions count as 5% more real. The effect is doubled for classes with an inherent link to shadow.
Dominion of Dragons
Description: Bound between these simple black covers are secrets of the Freehold written by a sure and steady hand, a priest of Balerion, an advocate of the Crimson Code, a True Dreamer. Though the subjects are among the most esoteric and perhaps even troubling to the ordinary reader, they give insight into Valyrias' relationship with the broken dragons they rode on till the very eve of the Doom.
Contents: Grants +2 to Knowledge (History) regarding the later years of the Valyrian Freehold as well as to any knowledge regarding the taming and training of dragons. Contains the rune-markings used by the mage-priests of Balerion to control their beasts as well as the most common means by which one may restore a sacrificed limb lost in the process.
"How like us they were in the end," Amrelath muses, leafing through the pages. He sounds almost wistful. "Perhaps I will meet with this godless priest once I have read his words."
"Both I and my sister will be more than happy to introduce you," you hasten to assure him. Well-mannered or no, you have no intention of allowing the first encounter between a dragonlord and an ancient wyrm take place without some supervision from one both parties respect.
@DragonParadox, great chapter all-around.
It dragonises humanises Amrelath to a degree that even Ican barely think of just dropping him on a sacrifice altar now.
:/
Also, it is really heartening to hear that a scheme so long in making, one that started with Azel's proposal for Scholar's Heart Tree, is moving along.
We may not yet be on a level of Shaitan's Spire, or Jinn's... whatever, but I'll be damned, if we are not making Sorcerer's Deep the best repository of all lore and knowledge we can.
Talking about lore...

Technically, Garin qualifies for reading it, doesn't he? He has spellcasting.
But I'm not sure how (if in any way at all) it would affect him. @DragonParadox?
Also,
(the following started roughly 1.5 months ago)
--[] Have Relath write down all his dragonlore and history on Brine Dragons and any other dragon species he might know of.
--[] Ask Amrelath to write down some more books
---[] History of Dragonkind on Plane of Balance before Ancient Valyria, history of their fall and (all) what he knows of proto-Valyria itself.
---[] Any insights in magic or secrets of the planes he holds.
(these are of this month, but I think were held as a part of an agreement longer ago?)
--[] Ask the Yrael and his Archons to write a book about the Celestial Planes and the Celestials therein
---[] Ask Yrael what method allows the Celestial Planes to produce the prodigious number of enchanted weapons and armor for their soldiers.
--[] Get Wyla to contribute to the Scholarum library, and also ask if she'd be willing to write a book on vampirism or any other subject she holds expertise in.
Resurgence or shield of faith? There are few combat-time spells that a relevant in a battle at his level, most of the useful ones work just as well as a Page..
But a minute per level spell vs an hour per level on "which to page, which know" has a clear outcome in my view

His spells were not selected with the thought of "well, if he can't have it here, he'll get it as a PoSK". His spell selection is meant to be natural for him, choices he would have made to enhance his personal combat ability.
Scintillating Scales transforms his Natural Armor bonus into a Deflection bonus. Since Deflection bonuses don't stack, Shield of Faith is useless to him.

Excellent intro for Amrelath's return to the living, DP. I think the selection of his flaws, and the way you represented them, was spot on.
[X] Contact the Shaitan Vizier to share with him the fate of the Bey of Beggars, if he doesn't know already, and to secure our payment for services rendered.
-[X] Commission the previously voted on items for Amrelath. Total Cost: 23,800 IM
--X] Bag of Holding Type IV w/Gentle Repose Effect (2,600 IM)
--[X] Monk's Belt (2,600 IM)
--[X] Plane Shift Talisman [2/Day] (6,480 IM)

[X] Then visit Dalla, you have a few things to talk to her about.
EDIT: My apologies, ya'll. When calculating the expense of the commissioned items for Amrelath, I forgot to double the price for most of them to represent purchasing rather than crafting them. That said, we're rich.
