[X] Buy a Myrish crossbow (+1 mundane enhancement to attack and damage due to quality) for 30 Iron Marks
[X] Alinor was supposed to travel with Ticho to a countryside retreat this evening. Go there at once. More likely than not the missing girls, if they are alive, are there.

You pick up Ser Richard without incident though the more sober thugs look at him in askance.
Yeah, that was expected reaction.

We have enough money for a better weapon. As for the retreat - it's more interesting option than the first two. And they all seems pretty dangerous, just in different ways.

Just thought of a new option:

[] With magic you could replace Alinor, with a sword disguised as a package and wearing the equivalent of chanmaill (Removes risk to Alinor requires revealing magic)

Uh. The Qm say to take this, I take this.

Meh. She will report to the thief boss and we don't want that.

We can very much afford the +1 bow, 30 iron is a ridiculously cheap price for such a bonus and it is definitely going to help us a lot in combat.
Depending on the crossbow size, we are looking at average damage of 3.5, 4.5 or 5.5.
I am guessing 3.5, a +1 to damage is huge. And a +1 to hit is nothing to scoff at either

You need to repost the rest of your vote. The vote counting software only counts your last post in which you made a vote (denoted by the [x]).
So by only posting your crossbow choice on that post you are effectively deleting the rest of your vote.

[X] Mellore knows of a herbalist and supposed maegi that sells a powder which is meant to near instantly put even a strong man to sleep in a blink of the eyes. This would make getting your hands on Ticho considerably easier however the powder is expensive and you do not know for certain it will work. Moreover this gives him more time to realize something can go wrong.

Just a question, but most people in Planetos are going to be Level 0 or Level 1 characters, right? Is anyone in Planetos even at Level 8-10, i.e. at the level of end-game Baldur's Gate 1 characters?

Selmy the Ninja Knight in his prime was level 9-10.

IIRC, we'd be buying a Mastercraft crossbow. As a mundane bonus, the +1 only applies to our attack, not our damage.

It needs to be a magical bonus for it to apply to damage.

It's worth noting that most NPCs have, well, NPC classes instead of PC ones.

So instead of a bunch of level 1 fighters, most mooks are level 1 warriors. There is an actual difference, and it gets much bigger for every level you add.

Most people should have literal levels in Peasant, Sailor, Warrior, Merchant or Noble.

When you consider Fighter is a solid Tier 4 class, imagine the Warrior that has literally no class features outside weapon and armour proficiency?

Sorcerer is a Tier 2. Unfortunately the difference only gets apparent at higher levels, and we won't be able to munchkin much, especially without Fiend-Blooded.

Still, a level 4 Fighter is a pretty good, even elite Knight, while a level 4 sorcerer can transform into a dragon. A knight wearing top tier armor, the full plate (and many knights are probably wearing the slightly inferior half-plate), can get an AC of 19. 17, if they are using half-plate. A heavy shield adds +2 for a total of 21.

Just with dragon form and mage armor we can get 22. 23 if we manage to round up our Dexterity. And we can fly.

We are not buying a "masterwork crossbow" we are buying a "Myrish crossbow"

Well, the Myrish really seem to know what they are doing then.

"It was for the scent of the Blood Orchid a Summer Island plant with a very unique scent, truly wondrous but the natives refuse to collect it for any price saying he plant is bad luck. Ticho Demetrys asked for nine vials of it, an unusually large amount. When I questioned him he said it was to help discover her, the way he said it..." the merchant stops for a moment. "He sounded... fevered." The merchant certainly looks discomfited now perhaps at having revealed more than he meant, perhaps at the events themselves.
Yup, either a vampire or a cultist of some sort. I mean, come on, Blood Orchids? That are noted for being evil omens? Seriously?

Part XXXVI: A Place of Ill Omen
A Place of Ill Omen

Fifth Day of the Tenth Month 289 AC

You cannot in good conscience risk Alinor's life as bait. You had considered revealing your magic and going in her place but only for a moment. Your magic is most powerful when it is not known. The potential complications of having it become known are too profound and far reaching to risk. You will have to travel to Ticho's "countryside retreat" as soon as possible and see if the missing women are there.

Alignment shifts 5 points towards Good, now True Neutral (55/55)

Ser Richard looks less than pleased with so risky a plan but you refuse to budge. There is something sinister about this situation, something strangely familiar like it calls back to a memory from a time you were very young.... or a dream you had forgotten with the dawn.

You spend two more hours finding out where Ticho's supposed countryside retreat is by buying drinks and making merry (or at least pretending to do so) in the taverns around the Moon Pool. Fortunately saying that it is in the countryside is something of an exaggeration. It is supposedly a hunting lodge built by Ticho's grandfather at the edge of the lagoon where the marshland meets the firmer land of the Braavosi Coast. You only encountered one man that had actually been there and he described it as "a miserable, gloomy place that would drive a man to drink." Though the last part may have been a hint to call for another drink.

After some searching you find a serpent boat wiling to take you that far out in exchange for a price so high you think you could have bought the boat for it. You pay nonetheless as time is of the essence. Hopefully you can rescue the vanished girls and remove Ticho before he can further imperil tour friends.

Lost 4 Silver Moons

***

Sixth Day of the Tenth Month 289 AC

After a wet cold boat journey and an even wetter and colder two hours on foot during which you learned more than a score new and creative curse words from Ser Richard you finally spy your destination in the distance. At least you did not get lost.

To your light sensitive eyes the pale stone of hunting lodge rises up from the darkness like the corpse of some ancient swamp monster. In the distance a wolf howls mournfully.

How do you proceed:

[] Pretend to be travelers who have lost their way, charm any servants present to find out more of the master of this place.

[] Set a fire to the small stable you can see attached to the house. When those inside come out to put out the fire ambush them.

[] Take on Alinor's seeming (speaking little accusing a sore throat) while Ser Richard takes the role of your guide who is remaining to receive his payment from the noble. Claim that you were so distraught at having missed Ticho that you had to come directly here to apologize.

[] Write in

OOC: As you can see you voted for maximum white knighting. Ser Richard is not pleased that his king is risking his neck to save whores but he has no choice other that to come along and try to keep Viserys safe.

If there is an option to solve things with fire the Targ must take it. If it doesn't work try more fire.

I had wanted to try to pass ourselves for the chief whore but, this guy has a point.

A bit confused about Ser Richard's displeasure - it's the option that doesn't risk Alinor's life, but other options were 1). ambush him on the streets of Braavos, 2). relying on unknown maegi to be competent about potions. Or is he against this mission in general?

He is against his 13 year old king running around to save whores in general yes but he is particularly against this one.

In the other options if the potion failed or the noble spotted you Alinor would have been in the most danger. Here the two of you are in the middle of nowhere planing to take on an unknown number of people in an unknown environment.
