Well, it's in the minor action list as a voting action. It's still apparently evil, and talks to it's wielder, so warning Valaena and letting her know if it gets too much that there would be no shame in wanting a less grating weapon. She's strong enough that the ego isn't a danger, right? I'm not sure how that whole thing works.
Ego only triggers in specific conditions:
1) Wielder has celestial blood.
2) Wielder flees from a devil with less than 10HD.

It should otherwise be a loyal, bloodthirsty, evil puppy.

It's a really awesome chain. Free trip and extra AoO on a spiked chain? Checks every box, especially awesome for aerial combat due to matching or overcoming the reach for most Large creatures, tripping flying creatures makes them fall, and the AoO is just icing on the cake for those Fly-By duels.

Hell, we should get her Combat Expertise and Improved Trip ASAP. Maybe even Knockdown, so she has multiple trip attempts every turn. A

Maybe we can explain things to the chain instead? Slowly dull and tear apart other weapons un front of It until it gets the message.
Maybe put It under the tree every once in a while.

It's still going to be whispering at her to kill people all the time (At best. It is LE, so more insidious things are also fair game). Something to help her deal with the Ego roll would mitigate some of it. Right now she's rolling a...what, +3/+4 against the DC of 9? That's roughly a 25% failure chance there. According to the rules alignment conflict can also trigger a ego roll.

Advising her to spend significant time not wielding it if she isn't training might be good as well.

I'm also mildly concerned that the chain seems to like her. Is it because she's already LE, or because it thinks it can browbeat her (compared to most of the other PCs)? I still think it's a good idea, but we'll want to go with precautions.

You joke, but I'm genuinely tempted to do this just to see what kind of update DP could make out of that.

And the POV for that should be some random guard wondering what the actual fuck the king is doing.

Malarys likes staves and maces.
He does, but he can train with a longsword just fine. And we kind of promised him everything a proper dragonlord would get in our service. His own dragon, his own loot, etc. A Valyrian Steel blade is wonderful for him thematically. In the future we can even see about getting it enchanted for him. After a quick trip to Avernus for all the sacrifices we need, of course.

She'll have a PfE amulet.

And just because it's Lawful Evil doesn't mean it will be acting as some stereotypical shoulder devil, trying to convince her to do bad stuff. As Malarys so perfectly demonstrates, LE can be quite loyal and accommodating.

I always thought that the Whorsehouse staffed by Demons would be our oddest idea, but intimidating a sentient Devil Chain has beaten even that.

It's basically going to be like an Evil Cheerleader. It can't actually influence her, otherwise that would have been mentioned by the cursebreaker.

During a battle it'll be cheering for all the most bloodthirsty options. It's completely up to Valaena on what she actually ends up doing.

Maybe we should start letting her tag along so she can start emulating the party members on how things are done during adventures. How NPCs should be dealt with, how allies should be dealt with, when and how monsters should be fought, etc. She's going to be one of our foremost vassals in the future, so I see this more as being proactive with our investment instead of leaving her development up in the air.

I'm sad I can only rate this once. This post deserves way more.

While Rhaella's version looks interesting, I'm not to sure that she will be in a position to use it for a long time. And Dany's version is really specific. We don't fight dragons that often, there are to many other groups to throw at us.

She is idolizing Malarys pretty hard, so I think her path is well and truly beaten already. The chain probably just senses the shape of things to come.

That being said, our best lawyer should make sure she becomes the productive kind of Lawful Evil.

If only, though. :(

I would be overjoyed if we had the option of regularly going after chromatics. We could do so many things with a dragon corpse. Armor that even druids can wear, dragonbone bows, dragongut lutes, dragontooth daggers & speartips, wonderful trophies, etc. Dragons are basically living loot.

Could you possible change your vote to [] TotallyNotEvil? The tally gets confused easily and I don't want a surprise Rhaella victory on this issue.

We'd get waylaid by groups of devils, demons, deep ones, and soon Efferit over half the time we tried.
