OOC: Can anyone guess what Malarys is that he can dispel and Extraordinary ability with a touch

OP and BS?

It is diffrent in the way it is described. Give two a Sorcerer and a cleric the same spell and each by DPs writing will have its own flavour and style. Each Caster is uniuqe in how they use and understand their magic. Which is a big deal with a story that features sorcery this heavily and he does it with a masters touch.

Yeah I got what you were saying, I was hoping you'd have an example cause I don't recall noticing the difference due to source only the Metamagic we apply as Azel has already mentioned.

From Malarys' description of his abilities, I'm going to guess he's Cleric 3/Church Inquisitor 8 or 9. I am very happy with that!

And he's most likely Lawful Neutral. :)

@DragonParadox, would Malarys' ability still work on Viserys when he gets a True Dragon form? Our understanding of Dragonblooded was that Viserys is equally comfortably in human and dragon form, so both would be his "natural" shape.

Does it just flatly force him back into human form?

Because if so, this is an incredible ability. I want to fight another Aspect of Tiamat so we can try this out.

Force Shapechange (Su): A church inquisitor of 6th level or higher can force a creature into its natural form. The church inquisitor must make a successful melee touch attack against the creature. If the attack is successful, the church inquisitor makes a caster level check as if casting dispel magic against the shapechanging effect. The church inquisitor?s +4 bonus on dispel checks (the Inquisition domain granted power) applies to this check. This ability undoes the effect of alter self, polymorph, shapechange, and alternate form abilities, whether exceptional, spell-like, or supernatural in nature. The affected creature cannot change its shape again for 1d6 rounds. The church inquisitor can use this ability at will.

For now such an ability would force Viserys into his human form. Come 15th level, that's another matter entirely...

@DragonParadox

If he's using this

What exactly is the DC for our HD form seeing as we didn't use a spell to change?

Edit:
Did that also work through the Bead of Newt prevention or did Viserys remove his for the test?

...Can he do that in an antimagic field?

Anyway, searing agonizing mass fireshield and haste? Obviously not MHD/LHD lol.

Looking at the class, I'm now wondering at Malarys's alignment. Valyria was kinda LE, but it sounds like he was from the softer colonies, and served a LG order. DP could have made changes to the alignment requirements, or Malarys could be LN, or even LG. If he is values dissonance LG I'll be very amused.

Though, if he's LN and DP didn't change the alignment requirements for the class, it just shows the superiority of law. A lawful neutral man, served a lawful good order, that existed in a lawful evil empire, yet all managed to work together to some degree.

Anyway, fight! And loot! And XP! @Goldfish, do you have a plan?

EDIT: Here's to hoping we'll find something we can add to the trophy room.

Vee's first time teleporting Viserys. Can't remember that chapter. Think when Maelor are the berries in Erresia

Edit: he probably served a le order, possibly ln imo. Valeria was covered in Devils

This is all I have for now. I think we need more info before we go in, spells blazing.

[X] Ride On
-[X] Viserys once again uses the Staff of the Old Gods to summon an unkindness of ravens to scout ahead, attempting to discern both the situation ahead and which party is the aggressor. If the Xorn are being attacked, or the situation appears to call for it, use the swarming ravens to distract the attackers while we approach the scene.

I think we are going to get a lot of use out of the new staff, BTW.
Yeah, agreed completely. So far this staff has:
1. Found a Frost Dragon hiding in the middle of a blizzard and allowed us to attack it with pinpoint accuracy
2. Found an ancient petrified weirwood dating back to the Dawn Age
3. Scouted out a tunnel holding a Mouther and a Gibbering Abomination

This thing really is one of the best pieces of loot ever. Going north to Bloodraven would have been worth it for this alone.

And can you imagine how much fun we'll have with Tree Stride?

Greatest Uncle is a very accurate tag. His gift I'd totally worth killing a pantheon for.
10/10 would face oblivion for staff again.

@Goldfish if we are not on the horses, then a haste first and we all run and either open with an appropriate fire brand, or maybe searing agonising fire shield if our chosen allies are near us?

Edit: @Azel, maybe he is saying what he thinks he wants Viserys to hear? He did something like "so you truly do care" when we first got asking him questions, I never understood why, but I think he is misrepresentating who he is a bit. Consider how he got on in the meeting in SD.

Have hope! He could just want Viserys to think he isn't utterly selfish! :D

Dany giggles. "Forcing a wyrm into human shape... One would half expect them to spontaneously combust from sheer outrage."
It can apparently force a dragon into human shape if they regularly take human shape, so it would assuredly still be able to force Viserys back to human.
I'm curious about how that is supposed to work, if it's really the Church Inquisitor's Force Shapechange at work. Wouldn't "the great wyrms, particularly those who were over-fond of human shape" still have "dragon" as their "natural form"?

So, Malarys is not LE.

Huh.

Seems like the Saltcave is getting that conference center after all.

Aw, don't be sad! If I'm right and he's a Church Inquisitor that has nearly completed that PrC, he's still an awesome addition to the party. And LN is basically LE, but with less overt malice and better PR.

And alignment is open to a certain amount of cultural interpretation. LN in Old Valyria could very well be more like LE in present day Planetos.

Yes, and that would leave them exceedingly dangerous, but it would force them out of hiding, especially if they were trying to avoid enslavement or destruction. The Church Inquisitors can use the ability at will, so it's not unreasonable to assume they could have regularly swept the population for shapechangers, Dragons included.

I mean, he's still a ruthless, slightly assholish loyal minion, which is like, the best part of an LE minion right?

Even if he doesn't turn out to be LE (which considering he lived in Vaylria, I would find to be unlikely) he still has all the LE aspects that you seem to like.

Yes, that occurred to me, and makes perfect sense in isolation. It's Dany's line which left me confused - is she just wrong about how it works?
