I think Snowfire is busy-ish, and I'm going to the gym.

I'm not sure which is the harder introduction, Lya or Mercy.

I'm home now, so I'll see what I can do. Kinda just staring at my screen in horror right now though, wondering how the hell I (or anyone) am going to manage explaining this without shattering at least half of the protective illusions that we've let Rhaella keep and that are currently keeping her sane.

We could take refugee in audacity. Explain Mercy and nobody will pay much attention to our relationship to Lya.

Well, Tyene is a good resource. She's a bastard and knows it, but is also canny about people and their perceptions and preconceptions (she's already maneuvering around Malarys).

You might consider just going with 'sister' for now and explain the details later. It would be closer to lying than you have gone so far, but not entirely a lie either.

I still think 'daughter' is actually rather close to what she is.

Obviously, that only makes sense when you already know what she is.

Edit: Is Aradia done already? She should be.

All that does is solidify an already dangerous illusion to the point that we'll have to end up breaking it. I also really don't know where to even start with the whole 'creation of life' thing. Especially when Mercy is still getting used to it.

Yes, but she's also not exactly someone Rhaella thinks of that highly - see how she refers to her in the interlude. Helpful, yes, but a lot of what she'll say is going to get routed through a filter of 'she's a bastard, therefore her opinion is lesser'.

I mean, yes, that's basically the only solution I have left. But it raises the issue of why she wasn't in any of our stories so far, given she's clearly supernatural, and...other stuff. Also would Mercy even be likely to accept that?

Mercy is sort of used to following other people's leads in social situations for now so even if she is confused about the matter she will play along.

Yes but she looks the same age. If you want to say something comforting you have to so with what makes sense to the audience.
Since you quoted without the other question I edited in.

Is Aradia already done? She should have been made shortly after Mercy.

This would be even funnier* if this wasn't Mercy, but the new Arcanum even Viserys doesn't know yet. :V

* Funnier in the "Look at that trainwreck!" sense.

Well, I think this is the best way.

Seeing Lya might have made problems with the whole dynastic nonsense, but seeing Lya and the life she created should shatter any illusions that things like titles and names could possibly matter compared to that.

So, she either accepts it, or has a breakdown which we can Heart's Ease her out of and then she accepts it.
There, issue solved.

Spoken like a true Sociopath. :p

You know Heart's Ease does not make people accept whatever the caster deems as reasonable, it's not mind control. It just makes them sane as in 'able to process reality in a coherent manner'.

Sorry.

Just find Snowfire's worrying about the issue a bit irritating.
We'll have to shatter the worldview of every man and woman in Westeros that hasn't already accepted the new reality, or is on the way there, anyway.

That Rhaella is our mother only changes how much we try to cushion the blow, it can't ultimatly change it.

Without the option to avoid processing reality she'll eventually have to see what's before her eyes.

I cannot fathom how bumbling into having to perform the psychological equivalent of Greater Restoration, for no apparent gain, would count as a solution.

Rhaella has limits. This is a woman who wedded her own brother because that was how the world was supposed to work. Who suffered repeated violation of her body, pride and self at the hands of someone who could be fairly called a monster but who was also someone she must have loved at a point. Who had no place where she could be safe, and who endured everything, protected her children, played the part of the Queen because that was what remained.

Even if she were to be "healed" from the immediate effects of psychological trauma, this is not something that would go away. It is asking her (no, telling her) that her sacrifice, her one reason for staying sane, was a farce worth less than nothing.

I really do see Snowfire's point of view here.

I'm mostly worried that this will turn into a trainwreck if she breaks, but otherwise I'm with you. Westeros will get to learn these truths in a far more jackbooted manner.

OK, I feel really weird and not a little uncomfortable asking this, because it was a majority decision, but (considering the many concerns) would you guys like me to ret-con Mercy out of the teleport group?

How about an introduction by skill - "main priestess of Yss, skilled assassin (just not like that ...), Wizard and apprentice.

For me, no. It fits Viserys that he first thought about the technicalites of the solution that's needed, and for him Lya and magic is noremal. Forgetting for a moment that he has to explain them to his mother is something that could happen.

To be frank, I wasn't aware Mercy was included in that group until you mentioned two Lyas arriving. Last moment edits can do that and the discussion was only about Lya and Vee.

Or she goes catatonic and we never get her back. Which happens when you push too much change at the human mind.
She does not have the option to go catatonic.
Insanity is not a given escape here, that's what Heart's Ease, or if needed Heal and Restoration are for.

She'll adapt. Best case by herself, but if not she still doesn't really have other options.

Yeah, trainwreck is very possible. Goldfish was right from the start, but nobody made those arguments when we first decided to raise her, thousands of pages ago.
