Oh man... our private Library is going to be 20/20 in no time flat.
The best part is we're getting the Castle Black Library, and we're also going to have our dragonpen write down all the lore we got from Bloodraven about the Old Gods and the Dawn Age. Our library is going to be spectacular. :D

By the way, guys, remember Tor? When we asked him to get us a weirwood, he first thought we wanted it for magical reagents. Then he realized we wanted a sapling and thought we wanted to perform geomancy.

He knew way too much about weirwoods and how they worked. I want to find him and get him to spill every bit of that lore and how he got it.

Should we tell them what the Giants are doing so they are aware and don't freak out when they start moving?

Maybe offer to grow them a Godswood and weirwood heart tree?

Would they want to buy constructs to use themselves?

Then that's when we answer. We don't have to promise that we will bring the wildlings to Essos, asap. Just the general idea that if they won't open the gates, we'll have other ways.

Normally, the watch tries to intercept smugglers from trading with Wildlings (for things like weapons). Since we are going to be sending them supplies at least semi-regularly, it makes sense for the ship to go to Eastwatch, unload, and then head up into the bay of seals and pick up any free folk who have heard our offer and are willing to take it. Explaining what that ship is doing will do a lot to make the Watch less nervous.

(As an aside, thoughts on how to get such an offer spread through the ranks of the free folk?)

"Target: Object or objects with writing"

He could cause 51 seperate books to copy 32,500 words over the course of 130 minutes.

"Blank paper, parchment, or a book must be provided for the spell to write upon. If the target has multiple pages, the spell automatically turns to the next blank page whenever necessary. If more pages in the target exist than blank pages are available, the spell copies the original until it runs out of
blank pages. At any time during the spell's duration you can redirect the magic to copy from another target, copy onto a different blank source, or resume a duplication that was interrupted by a shortfall of blank pages."

Redirect the effect if necessary and pick up where we left off if one caring wasn't enough for a particular work which would have to be roughly the size of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to cause that problem.

It's very much a non-issue.

Hrm, that would be better. Even if true, underselling our abilities might make him more willing to go "fine, make as many copies as you like" if he thinks it's hard as an enticement to fix his own library (I've always been a fan of "undersell and over-deliver," for reputation building).

Why not just make like 10 more pens? We're going to want a copy of every library we take anyway. We might as well have a bunch of extra scribes.
No, that's not how the pens work. They are self-replicating constructs who are far too valuable to allow out of our control lest our enemies get their hands on some. They are more or less used as status symbols for the highest echelons of our government (party members & most important NPCs). If we make a new dragonpen, it's because there's someone we intend to give it to. The one we made in Bloodraven's cave? That one's probably going to either Malarys or Rhaella (with us possibly making yet another pen for Bloodraven himself). We're not going to make pens without owners to keep them.
Maybe offer to grow them a Godswood and weirwood heart tree?
Not just yet. Let's do it at some point, but I want the Lys disaster out of the way first, and I want our Defense Tree grown in Sorcerer's Deep. Once that's done we can definitely grow a Heart Tree for the Night's Watch.

Just decide on a Maker's Mark for all things Targaryen produced, a stylised dragon of some kind that denotes we produced this item but they aren't necessarily under the control of our house.

These goods will obviously be the best thing in the room and naturally remarked upon and all other things Targaryen discussed from there.

Just do a good job and word will spread, hire a few Wildling messengers, no doubt there is an informal class of couriers between the various groups. You don't survive in an environment like the Far North without knowing where your neighbours are, what they're doing and what they have to trade.

...? I'm not proposing trading with the free folk. I'm talking about our offer of escape from certain doom if they kneel to us, and how I don't want our ship to be mistaken as trading weapons to the free folk by their enemies, the watch, who would make frowny faces and talk about how those weapons will be used to kill them.

Pretty sure we're gonna trade with them and quality work wins a lot of legitimacy with people who can appreciate a good tool, such as Freefolk who bet their lives on their equipment literally every day.

Messenger hiring still stands.

What would they even pay us in? Also quality work Beyond The Wall is anything made of metal.

There's probably plenty of herbs and such they could gather and provide samples of for our greenhouses and similar initiatives but really them being on side is the goal in and of itself.

Like overpaying at Eastwatch.

Worst case scenario less bodies for the Other will still be a fine reward.

I wasn't just thinking weapons either, a smart move would be to give them tools to ease logistics, strong fabricate braided rope, sleds and carts etc.

Still valued equipment that happens to make it much easier to move their asses when the time comes.

No, trading with them only encourages them to think they can now stand on their own. It weakens our position, and potentially arms them to attack the watch. Less of them will leave the North, and if they decide they have to, attacking the wall will seem more doable.

I very much disagree, they aren't retarded and they've seen the magic of the Other.

Before they'd even think about staying they'd need a champion and that's just a convenient beacon for Diplomacy.

I'm not sure if that oath should be spoken that often. It would also kinda block others from using it.
I would use something more short and prayer like. Can't hurt to get people into the habit of praying to the Dragon Emperor early.

I was thinking something short and simple, like "duty"... which combined with a statue of a dragon should be a subtle reminder of which King actually fullfilled his duty.

By the way, @Diomedon, don't forget that we brought along a big bag of attuned obsidian sand so we can stay in constant contact with both Aemon and the Lord Commander.

They could pay in animal furs and ivory, too.

We could pay them with tools, foodstuffs, magical healings, etc.

I'm very interested in meeting the Thenns and what they can offer since they are the most well off Free Folk.

Bronze. Lots and lots of bronze. We need to bring Waymar for that one. That Magnar of theirs almost certainly has powerful magic.

Also, diplomancing the Free Folk is a big, big reason I want Viserys to learn the Old Tongue. I also wouldn't mind if Lya learned it as well as preparation for learning First Men runes.

Since we are already here should we offer free healing to Lord commander and other watchmen that need it?

A micro omake for the night shift:

-.Meanwhile, in Stannis's room.-

Servant 1: He's been like that for hours, just staring at the wall...

Servant 2: It's getting worse, last week it was just twenty minutes...

Servant 1: Should we do something?

Stannis: *sounds of teeth crunching*

Servant 2: ... best not to. I wonder what terrible evils the Dragon Sorcerer worked upon our Lord to leave him like that...

Servant 1: *shudders*

-.Meanwhile, inside Stannis' head.-

Opinion of Viserys Targeryean:

Is not my rightful King (-50)

Is my rightful King (+50)

Stannis: *Cognitive Dissonance Teeth grinding intensifies*.

Edit: Seriously, the Thread managed some serious Inception on poor Stannis.

*Feels like Leo Dicaprio*

Edit 2: It gets even funnier if you think about the fact that DP probably has something exactly like this running inside Stannis' head when we enter social combat against him.
