absolutely not
neutral is the same as a normal human judge
they can be bribed, corrupted, intimidated (depends on type)
even if they are none of those things, this does not mean they make a ethical decision, which invalidates the whole point of have a outsider as a judge

for most other jobs i would have agreed with you only not this one

False. There are neutral outsiders who's very nature it is to judge fairly without bias.

Wait a minute. We forgot about selling off Relath's stuff. When we drop off Xor in Mantarys, can we do a quick visit to Tolos for a trade off?

oh "very nature it is to judge fairly without bias" should that not make them good it we are going by your differentiation

also what type

No? And there are outisders of all types, the planes are infinite after all.

But I don't want an outsider judge because I'm not certain we can have them judge based on our laws and perspectives over their own. At the end of the day they are alien and a Judge is there to deal with the ambiguous in a lot of cases.

If you did go that route my reluctant choice would still be some variety of neutral outsider so it can be paid to do its job perfectly and it won't care either way what it is enforcing.

E.g. The hangings or sacrifice of those so worthy.

ye the alignment is very weird when ever i read it i think there the people making it have a chip on their shoulder or have a mental illness

the archon have a a ability to always now the truth and a rare few can tell you if have committed a evil. this with there nature means no one will ever be falsely punished and a just ending of the case
remember our kingdom does not have many rules

also laws can be bad like the law lords have the right of the first night were on the brides wedding night the lord rapes her before she can be with her husband
also they are not guards (that is some one else job)

there job if some one feels slighted (modern life you sue) or a criminal course case. because of there abilities and nature they find who is in the wrong and then they punish them justly

Talk of Relath reminds me of how much I want to kill him and take all his stuff...

Part MCCLXVI: Odd Audience
Odd Audience

Fourth Day of the Ninth Month 292 AC

Your captains grumble somewhat at the tasks you set them: to Sunspear, Gulltown, even distant White Harbor as well as more familiar ports like Pentos and Myr. Though you have little doubt that they are right to worry about the profitability of such journeys, you have other reasons than coin for the tasks you set, and the promise of constant pay (which you have never failed to deliver) keeps complaints at a low rumble, an acceptable state of affairs as far as you are concerned, though other princes might have been less tolerant... other princes.

You sigh, setting down your enchanted pen for the moment. Your title grows more fitting by the moment, and you have little doubt that in the halls of power to the east and west even those lords yet blind to the rise of magic begin to notice your ascension to power. Somehow the fact is not as unambiguously pleasing as it was in your childhood fantasies, perhaps because with power come expectations of how you should live your life and whom you should associate with. That you can break those unseen chains you've little doubt, but how many lives will be broken in the doing?

The study of law for your current project has given you a new understanding of just how much of what allows men to live and work together is simple force of habit and unquestioning submission to the laws of rule under with they welt all their lives... When those laws falter or worse yet when undone chaos is king, men and women scramble to find a new place, not out of ambition (which you would be the last to disparage) but desperation.

"What is the Tyroshi position on common law marriage again?" you ask your servitor assistant. The little false-dragon's excellent memory for minutia has saved you more times than you can truly say.

"That it can exist only between freemen and that are neither slaves or lords, tradesmen, artisans..." comes the swift and sure answer followed by a numeration of exceptions and even a few clever comparative inferences.

You are startled out of the discussion by a short, sharp knock on your door, followed by it opening without awaiting an answer... Vee has never paid more than lip service to courtesy, you think, amused.

It is indeed a rather grumpy Vee, but her companion is surprising. Lady Valaena stands on the threshold stuttering a greeting and looking like she would rather be swallowed up by the earth.

"Said she needed to talk with ya," Vee announces before vanishing into thin air back to her own tasks, leaving you alone in the company of a girl who had likely never been alone with any nobleman she was not related with in her life. Come to think of it the two of you to share some kinship...

"Greetings, cousin," you say with a smile to put her at ease. "Come, sit..." You motion to a chair rather carelessly set against the far wall.

Though still blushing, the young Velaryon no longer looks like she wants to bolt at least. "Thank y-you, your grace... I want to help," she blurts out.

"Help?" you ask in a pleasant though mildly surprised voice. You had expected the girl to have enough on her plate with the lessons you had arranged to and... whatever it is young ladies of good breeding do when not at their lessons. Come to think of it, the Deep may not be the bast place for that.

"Everyone..." she stops. "Many are offering valuable service... some far younger than I. I feel it behooves me to offer to aid your endeavors in whatever small manner I can as a token of my House's service." She looks at you with poorly disguised dread, as if she expects a rebuke, or perhaps a dismissal that would shatter her fragile pride.

What do you answer?

OOC: With Tyene busy on the moss project, Valaena was left in something of a limbo, and this is what she ended up doing to rectify the matter.

Stick her with Waymar and turn her from the Seven. That way she can appreciate a religion that actually answers and not the useless(not to mention our future enemy) religion drummed to her since birth.

[X] Offer her a spot in the Academy, where she will be able to learn to harness the nascent magic that courses through her veins and perhaps even develop skills her father would not approve of for a daughter of House Velaryon, such as gaining some proficiency with a blade (putting her on the path to becoming an Eldritch Scion archetype Pathfinder Magus).

Also conveniently keeping her out of our hair for a while.

Seriously, it's been hinted she could go into PC-doom. Why snatch that away from her for a middling gish?

Go Sorcadin if we want her to gish it up, but seriously, Magus instead of sorcerer? Hell, we don't ?even need the proficiencies.

She wants something to do. Maybe she could accompany Waymar with Yss Priesthood?

There was a lot of in thread discussion a couple weeks ago about her future class before we decided on the Eldritch Scion Magus, which DP approved. It's an interesting class with a lot more flavor to it than just some Wizard/Fighter multi-class mishmash.

I don't recall anything being "decided" as such.

DP flat out said she'd be a good sorceress, why are you insisting on a bard spell progression? You might as well be shooting her in the foot.

Also, she is already taking a multitude of lessons to ascertain her talents.

We aren't going to make First Night laws but we will have laws that Good Outsiders won't enforce and we can't split it between cases they will rule on and cases they won't that would make our justice system a circus.
