Real frost giants, remorhazes (remorhazi?), snow spiders, and yetis all come to mind as possibilities. There are tons of monsters with the Cold subtype. DP has a lot of options to pick from, some of them really scary. More than a few cold-type undead that make the Others look cuddly.
With Tiamat's return I wouldn't be surprised to see Chromatic White Dragons start popping up to help the Others (just to spite us).

So, what do you guys think about this concept, @Duesal , @Artemis1992 , @Azel , everyone else, maybe as a subset of Waymar's Knightly Order:
Winged Knight Company
- Each Company consists of twelve men, ten knights, a sargeant and a captain. They are built and supplied as to be able to operate on their own for long periods, if necessary. This group of special operations agents has their skillset tooled as to be able to, as a unit, solve a myriad of different challenges, and their composition reflects such.
- The Knights and the Sargeant are mounted in Warbeast Hippogriffs, while the Knight Captain is given the great honour of riding a Warbeast Magebred Griffon, a noble companion that may follow him through life, and may even accompany his descendants in the skies.
-- The members may also employ their own mounts, if so desired, as long as they fulfill adequately fulfill the role of, at least, an Hippogriff. Fine warhorses are also availble if the mission demands so.
-Unit Composition:
-- Lancers:
Human Fighter 4 (STR 16 [15+1]/DEX 12/CON 16/INT 8/WIS 10/CHA 8) - Power Attack, Mounted Combat, Ride-By-Attack, Spirited Charge, Furious Focus
--- Equipment: MW Lance, +1 Breastplate w/ Least Crystal of Arrow Deflection, backup thinblade and heavy shield.
-- Archers: Human Fighter 4 (STR 8/DEX 18[17+1]/CON 16/INT 8/WIS 9/CHA 8) - Deadly Aim, Weapon Focus (Great Crossbow), Crossbow Sniper, Improved Critical, Rapid Reload
--- Equipment: MW Repeating Greatcrossbow, +1 Breastplate w/ Least Crystal of Arrow Deflection, backup MW light crossbow, backup thinblade and buckler
-- Mages: Hedge Mage 4 (STR 12/DEX 14/CON 14/INT 16 [15+1]/WIS 8/CHA 8) - ???; ???; Fiery Burst - Spells known: two cantrips, two level 1 or lower spells, three level 2 or lower spells. One bonus level 1 and 2 divine spells known, from their god's domain. Spells slots: 3/3/1
--- Equipment: Backup MW Lance, MW Repeating Light Crossbow, MW thinblade, ???, Scrolls (???)
-- Ecclesiarchs: Adept 4 (STR 8/DEX 10/CON 14/INT 8/WIS 18 [17+1]/CHA 12) - Zen Archery; ???; ???; ??? - Spell slots: 3/3/1
--- Equipment: +1 Fullplate w/ Least Crystal of Arrow Deflection, Heavy Shield, backup MW Repeating Light Crossbow, MW Thinblade, MW Lance, Scrolls (???)
--Sargeants: Expert 2/Marshal 2

Needs more work, but it's late. Suggestions?

Eh, a victory of the Others would eventually destroy all that could be her's on the Material and if that's related to the Great Other business Dany found out about maybe even all existance, even her hoard.

Greed is propably stronger than spite.

That probably wouldn't work out too well for the Others, or the Whites. White Dragons are the morons of the True Dragon family tree, with awful tempers and nearly feral mindset. Even Tiamat might have her hands full keeping them in line.

That said, I really doubt we have to worry about Whites showing up before Reds. Tiamat obviously has difficulty working her will on Planetos, so it wouldn't make sense for her to waste whatever limited resources she has access to on the dumbest and weakest of her dragons. In other words, one Red is worth half a dozen Whites.

Alright, we're definitely getting those monster eggs in Molten Skies.

True, true. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Blackfyres with Valyrian Dragons (and god forbid, true red dragons) long before we even get our first egg.

Wait a minute. TNE, wouldn't a Ranger be better for an archer?

Rangers are technically a magic-using class, if the shittiest of the bunch. We'll come across far more skilled muggle archers than we ever will mages with Ranger inclinations. If we ever find Rangers, they'll probably be Wildlings, and hostile to us by default.

Alright then, warrior it is.

On a completely random note, we really need to start training Theon. I don't want to be caught with no options when Euron comes knocking.

Hmm, considering all this, I wonder what's Westeros overall magical readiness. As it is Viserys have a lot of magically capable people, access to extraplanar markets and all that it implies, the start of a Super Soldier program and potentially an all out airforce and potentially combined arms tactics if everything pans out.

On the other hand in Westeros even in this time of returning magic the Realm as a whole seen to be coasting along with what drops on their laps instead of being proactive about it.

I don't count the Seven on it since they're basically the Faith Militant.

@TotallyNotEvil
That doesn't seem too related to that mage-knight order idea. That one kinda implies the people are mages.
And also full knights, so propably better than level 4.

This seems like a useful addition to any army though.

Not really, I'm going for very high one-shot damage, in order to combat DR, or high NA which makes each hit count and TWF or multiple attacks inadvisable for low level people.

You do bring up a good point, tho, there should be a scout there. Maybe make the Squires do it?

I think the idea is to have these Winged Knight Companies led by members of Waymar's knightly order, and then after that have a mix of casters and fighters serving under them.

@TotallyNotEvil, this sound about right?

EDIT: Faceless'd

Falls in line with the in-canon Royces' being technically the Griffin King's successors.
Love it, @TotallyNotEvil!

Also, am I allowed to ask DP about this? Will this be a waste of time?
I wonder what happened to Garin's Kikimora?

... Huh. That's actually beautifully thematic.

And maybe as a huge "fuck you" when we conquer Westeros we have Vee fly in on a giant falcon to harass the Arryns. ;)

Also, nothing's stopping you from asking DP. It's just that he chooses whether or not to actually answer.

Wasn't this always the plan?
I wonder what happened to Garin's Kikimora?
I assume it's still at his house and we can check up on things when we visit Braavos.

Likely the whole thing is being kept secure by a steward until such time Garin has a child that can take over family or Sealord cancel's his exile.

Besides what the others answered, I made sure to underline that would one subset of said order.

The super-high prestige branch, granted, but not the only ones. There's a host of stuff they can work with. They can have a specialized undead-hunting unit, a specialized anti-magic unit, a heavy-cavalry unit (I'm lookint at the Gorgons), a scouting unit.

The above would be merely the cream of the crop.

And I went with Fighter 4 because that's what Richard arrived to us as. He does seem to be the average Westerosi-grade knight. Better than Essosi copies- those being Warriors- but mainly in quality, a much more in-depth training in the form of fighter feats, but comparable HD value.

I would probably stat the Sargeants as Something 3/Marshal 2, and a couple Captain templates as maybe Duskblade/Wiz/Archvist 5.

I don't want it to be a one-off, mainly. We could load up a unit with level 6 badasses, but we'd be lucky to have one such full unit.

Now, while a westerosi knight might not be "average", there are a great deal more of them than said super-hero grade people.

Gorthos, for example, was a Rogue 5. That's a good spot for leaders, maybe with a dash of Expert.

Speaking of Griffins... I really think we have to do the Rhoyne Quest.
Why? Aside from loots and a test run for the Second Long Night final campaign, I think it's our best chance to run into Connington and "Young Griff". They are somewhere in that area in-canon.

Maybe after reporting to Bloodraven Tiamat's promise, he can clue us IC to where they are. He's the one most invested in wiping the Blackfyres afterall.

  2. Seems good overall but do we want to mechanically introduce sub average (average human being 10) Int to our corps? Seems like asking for trouble.

Not everyone in our armies or corps will be smart, but we can trust the knight commanders of each unit to keep everyone in line. They'll be selected from Waymar's order, and Waymar won't tolerate idiots.

They don't need to be smart, 10 is average and 80% of each squadron is 2 points below that as its written up. These guys are actively dense. For a force that's supposed to be capable of independent action this does not inspire confidence.

  1. Seems good overall but do we want to mechanically introduce sub average (average human being 10) Int to our corps? Seems like asking for trouble.

Well, they do have high wisdom, but really, they are supposed to be experienced professionals, how stats affect the narrative should also take that into account. The grunt portion relies more on learned cunning instead of book-smarts.

The Sargeant and Captain would be more mental, and the Mage and Ecclesiarch would be there to help plan.

Things such as ranks in Profession (Soldier) should cover for a lot. How to make a covered campfire, basic repair and maintenance, cooking, basics of stealth, how to tie knots, carry a wounded person, etc.

Keep in mind, the average stat spread does have a couple stats at -1. They aren't dense, especially at that level, they are merely in the lower half of the average, but by no means at the bottom.

But those guys were built using the same point-buy value as our old household knight guards (aka Ser Gerold).

I'd love for there to be a base ruling "Their base Wisdom and Int 10 as to represent their experience, applies only to non-caster units", but until such time, I'd take more Constitution over it.

They need to be skilled and strong and able to follow a plan. High Int means learning new things and understanding complex systems. It's, well, book-smarts.

Cunning is more about Wisdom.

Specialization is the key here.
