Thank for the info! Guess I just want for Planetos to go cyberpunk in Viserys life time.

God, can you imagine?

"The Year Is 460 I.A( Imperial Ascendancy). You're a technomancer who has just uncovered an Ilithid conspiracy to kidnap high-ranking corpos for an unknown purpose. Normally this is something you just give to the Inquisition to deal with and maybe get some creds for your troubles.

The catch? His Fucking Majesty, Viserys Targaryen himself is in the video shaking hands with the squids while they hand him the corpos.

Now what?"

Edit: Just a scenario I cook up. Thoughts?

Well now, that sounds like something waaaaay above your paygrade OR yer gonna have a Mythic Rank sonny jim!

It is for taking and holding it. It's and ongoing commitment of military strength.
Still not much of a problem, it's not like we have to make sure it will hold even in the face of a CR20 enemy deciding they want it, we just need to hold it against casual attempts at taking it, unlike with protecting something like a Weirwood, the consequences of the mines defenses failing is just that we have to retake it.

Which mean Flesh forged creatures are totally sufficient for the task, so we can just plop down a dozen CR10 defenders, and some lower CR scouts and auxiliaries, and call that good enough.

The way the flesh forges work, money equal military strength for us, at least as far as non-champion level soldiers go.

And if we decided that it would take too long to recoup the cost of the troops, House Adjar isn't in the same constant state of expansion we are, so they would probably be open to an agreement, for them to provide the materials to make the defenders in the forges, in return for us reducing our cut, so we could probably get a 10% cut without having to spend a single coin.

Of Shadows and Gold

Thirtieth Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

After assuring the young shugenja that you would find a place for him and his fellows in your service 'with the blessing of the Kami', specifically the Suijin which chooses to dwell among the tritons of the the Aquatic District, you turn to the affairs of more distant spirits, specifically those of stone.

First you converse with the representatives of House Adjar, whom you find in very good spirits by virtue of all the potential commercial contacts the coronation gives them a chance to secure. From clever Westerosi lords, looking to cut out the middleman in the reagent and luxury trade, to Essosi magisters looking for expert advice in opening mines and securing the gifts of the earth, the trading house is expecting vast profits from the chance to approach so many potential customers from a position of trust and royal favor.

Since all of that is likely to make you tax revenue in the end, you toast their success with all sincerity. You are not even surprised that the greatest contract among the Lords of Westeros went to Walder Frey, who cut a deal to exchange honey from promised apiaries and dyes not commonly grown in Essos like yarrow, bloodroot, and smooth sumac. Though generally considered inferior to eastern dye by many merchants, some enterprising Shaitan mage had realized that they actually hold the sorceries of earth and stone better, making them a better fit for the 'garden-sourced dye' used in all manner of minor enchanted clothes and other accoutrements.

Even accounting for magic to give them a little extra luster in the eye of prospective customers, the price of such dyes will allow House Adjar to undercut the competition and will make Walder Frey even richer than he already is. One can almost hear the teeth grinding of his neighbors already...

Perhaps just as unsurprising, they also have a business opportunity for you. Their surveyors had recently come upon a vast vein of aszite steel estimated at tens of thousands of tons of the rare metal. Alas, the gloom-shrouded cavern complex far from the common trade routes of the Endless Delve is also home to hideous worms who seek to lay their eggs in the flesh of their victims. Worse yet, the worms are not mere beasts, but seemingly driven to their task by spectral entities known only as the owb, who do not even leave bones behind on falling to be divined by.

"Attempts at communicating and reaching some sort of mutually satisfactory agreement have ended with our envoys being attacked and driven back with deadly force," Alyneah says, her precise diction doing little to hide her anger at the aggression of these shadow spirits. "With our current resources we cannot take the caverns and make use of the steel without ruinous expense, and there are no more reasonable locals to draw upon for the task, as is common practice. Therefore we are willing to offer up to 50% ownership of the mines in exchange for aid in securing it, potentially with the use of flesh-forged creations. We will handle the mining and transportation of the steel to market."

She shakes her head a little ruefully. "It is not exactly an adamant strike, but it is precious enough to be lucrative for years to come, perhaps all the more so for one such as yourself who makes use of dark fey and other weavers of shadow."

What do you reply?

[] Make a proposal

OOC: I know you guys wanted to get to the politics and war right away, but you did invite a merchant house so I thought a bit of a business opportunity might be interesting. Plus it gave me the chance to roll for Walder's luck in making a deal with the Shaitan. He got very very lucky as seen above.
Made some additional edits to the chapter, DP.

AFAIK, the Yellow Dynasty has Dragon ancestry by marriage, so it could just be the case that they have traditional Sorcerer classes (as in, by preference, the Yellow Emps has been gathering mages from traditions we're more familiar with).
Yeah, but we thought that the guy we met in that auction in Heaven was a Shugenja, so I assume he has at least some bloodmagic-using Shugenja, rather than just Sorcerers.

This seems like a good assignment for a Great Bloodclot Mold, a few Bloodclot Molds, an assortment of Undead mounts and subordinates for them, and some Watchmoles for surveillance and communication, @Azel.

I'd also take some plants and fire creatures. Both the worms and the owb are more dangerous in darkness, so we should take lightsources along.

Didn't you start some research into a Blinding Glory spell that doesn't blind an arbitrary third of all our subjects?
Considering that it's a 9th level spell none of our researchers actually know yet, Mythic duplication not counting for that purpose, I don't think we'll be getting to that any time soon.

Not that I remember.

Preliminary vote:
[X] Accept the deal under the condition that you get all bodies to make more servitors.
-[X] "You had me at 'lucrative'."
-[X] Force composition TBD

@Goldfish, I'd want to capture some Owbs for study. Any proposals for that beyond Lindworm + Necrotic Mold?

@DragonParadox, given that the worms acid only affects organic matter, would constructs be immune to it? What about undead, especially metal-clad ones?

Constructionists would be fine as long as they are made of inorganic mater, With metalclad undead it's a bit more tricky, while they are intact they take no damage, but if they get banged around to the point where the coating gets cracked it will start to eat at their squishy bits

Yeah, I see no problem with this given the pay off. Even besides the money it is a steady supply of special resource to access if needed and a further move to build relations with a key ally.

Though I do wonder if the Adjar's rivals are starting to get jealous of all the profit and prestige they are raking in from various deal with us and our vassals yet. Should we expect that other house might try sounding us out for deals soon to compete?

Every time I hear of Walder Frey I am consistently impressed with how he takes whatever opportunity chance presents to him with both hands and strangles it for every penny it's got.

He's the type of man I want to be when I grow up.
