No, you could certainly hold a Feywild portal open with weirwoods, but there isn't some set limit to such portals, so it would not prevent other portals from opening naturally.
Ah. In that case there isn't much point beyond keeping a permanent portal open between Prime Material and the Feywild for a bastion of the Imperium in there.

But there's also not no point to regulating them as we discover them, is there?

And the best way to do that is to have reliable customs inspections.

Sue, there is some logic to where and when they appear.
If you can pinpoint that logic...

"Has a new Fey passage opened up in X between the dates of Y and Z?"

"Is it in [thematically/narrative-appropriate locale]?" x30

"Is [locale] in [geographic area]?"

"Closer to X or Y?"

"Right, I think this one opened up near Pinkmaiden, better put a tree lid on it and get some inspection stations ready."

Alternatively, the Old Gods get corresponding power projection the more Heart Trees they get planted in places.

So if that number reaches a certain threshold, is it quicker for the Old Gods to just... point us in the right direction? I bet we could also just follow the ley lines.

[X] Finish the reports

I haven't had this much fun waiting for a show since the "Farce of Lys."

Oh this is going to be a treat.

Shame Robby's not going to die by our hands directly, or that we couldn't find a use for him after we broke him in mind and body, but that's just how the cards fall I suppose.

Can we alternatively use Imperial Steel rails to keep a portal open? It's a conceptual solid overcoming planar boundaries after all, so as long as you got a continuous length of it, a portal should be unable to shift away from it. Like a big, expensive nail that keeps the planes from wobbling away form each other.

Should work in theory...

Now I'm just imagining a far distant future where we fix the Planes with gigantic spikes of Imperial Steel everywhere.

Viserys sees no reason why it would not work, though you would have to experiment. it's a novel material so he can't just fall back on the dragon dreams for solid answers.

So the idea is to use it as a sort of planar anchor...I can certainly see it working.

I like when we run into stuff that isn't available from the Draconic Akashic Records. It's just another way we can make our mark on reality by being the first to load new data into the cloud.
