Honestly, I'm not too happy with this latest interlude. We've asked them to be "loyal" (whatever that means) but we didn't actually ever explain our problem with their previous course of action. At best, we ordered them to stop trying to broker deals with Fey, which is a bit of a blunt solution to our problems.
You know it's one thing to think "We made space marines with magic, science, and good old can do "FUCK YOU" spite" but it's another to read something like this and see some kind of twisted fusion of the best parts of 40k and Age of Sigmar.
Yeah, but harming your opponent seems like a small satisfaction compared to still being at war after a thousand years.
I would have expected a peace treaty after after a few years.
Ideally after we dislodge the Devils from any major holdings on the Material, like Slaver's Bay. Or less ideally entering a truce/cold war with said holdings.
Kudos, @Crake, that was everything one could expect to see in a "centuries later"-chapter of the sort of story we're setting up with our Imperium.
The sheer scale, in particular, is sufficient.
Good job.

They have been winning and winning hard for a long time. It will take some doing to bring Asmodeus to the table. A thousand years and nothing irrecoverable isn't enough to change his mind.
@Artemis1992, I'd expect us fighting it out with Devils once every 1.5-2 centuries at least often, even ifa peace is established for a time - once we think we have a good enough opportunity to gain more stuff than we'd lose in the process of fighting it out.
Same for them.
It's not like we can reasonably trust most of the Archdukes to not sceme against us, Asmy most of all.
Not from the high horse they are riding in-setting at the moment.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect any peace treaty to be much more than a temporary truce.
Any time it happened it would be a true truce, because these are devils and not demons, but... It would be a cold war type of occurrence any time it happened.
Because I wouldn't expect the devils to back down, and by that point no one would expect Viserys to back down. Neither side would break their word... but expect that word to be stretched and folded more than advanced origami.
It would be a real treaty, with real terms, and those terms would be made to be stretched. The exhausting part is getting through the entire negotiation without being worn down and making some mistake when going over yet another revision, the war continuing apace in the meanwhile to encourage a hasty signing.

Malarys: "WHAT! That bordergore is preposterous! And what's this clause here about "dreadnought limits" fixed to one polity as a frame of reference?! They haven't even fought a trans-planar conflict in millennia!"
Aspect of Asmodeus: "The Citadel Council is still considered by some to be the premier governing body in the Spheres."
Malarys: "This is for that thing with Mammon, isn't it?"
Aspect of Asmodeus: "We have dismissed those claims."

So it seen we have cow the Tyrall into subservant, I dislike having to do things like that but considering we could have wipe them out(and it seen the thread was seriously considering that) at least is a "happy ending" as it could be.
And I will not lie, I nearly though Dragon paradox got confused with a 40k quest at first, which since I dont how much it will take, but since we always joke he is kind emperor of mankind:
"No Place shall be beyond my rule; no enemy shall be beyond my wrath. " Viserys, god emperor of mankind, to the tyrell and many others.
"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me.
Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them.
They will be of iron will and steely muscle.
In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest weapon will they be armed.
They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them.
They will have tactics, strategies and magics so that no foe can best them in battle.
They are my bulwark against the Terror.
They are the Defenders of Humanity.
They are my Empire best soldiers and they shall know no fear."
– The God-Emperor of Mankind Viserys about is new creation
"If there anything im guilty is the simple pursuit of knowlage" Lya Primarch of the thousand daughters.
""There is one way to see and that with the knowlage of your own eyes"-Richard loudmoth, primarc of the imperial fist.
"When the traitor hand strike, it strike with the force of a legion" Aegon, Primarch of the son of the dragon, now the blackfyre legion.
"DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!"- blackfyre legion warcry.
"Loyalty its is own reward" Garin drakelis, primarch of the dark angels.
"Those who scale the pinnacles of glory have the furthest to plunge into the abyss. " I quote from warhammer that sum the valyrians and probably us in the future.
Scholarum mastery projects were a mage's pride, the fruit of their journey watered by the sweat of their brow, or at least so dozens of speeches Teana had listened to over the past years would have it. Sometimes they were just the product of being in the right place at the right time to witness something truly strange and recognize how it could be useful, such was the case of the Naathi mage who upon being exposed to one of the newly grown wizard shackles after an unfortunate drunken bar fight recognized that the creatures did not truly devour magic from the mind as common wisdom would have it.
After all, unlike those born to the blood of dragons, fey, fiends or stranger beings her magic was not innate, it was learned, each spell set through exacting ritual and triggered with a command word. Most of the spell had already been cast when the thing latched on and yet if a wizard was exposed to a shackle for long enough they would lose the use of their prepared spells just as readily as a sorcerer whose spells were cast in the moment, unlike say a wave of phoenix fire or gremlin's mischief magic. The well-structured dissertation on Teana's desk argued that the parasite subtly disordered the mind in such a way as to make the precise motions and invocations of arcane workings fail. As proof she was offered the failings of experienced ritual casters who had been fed upon.
However, if the shackles practiced some form of compulsion or enchantment it was one which standard wards did not blunt, with implications as expansive as they were terrifying. Specifically these were the sort of implications that got the mage Sarilei a unexpected if very polite visit from the Inquisition to ensure she did not accidentally spread around the sort of knowledge best kept hidden.
To her credit the young master mage took this as an opportunity to secure funds and access to restricted tomes, with the aid of which she refined her thesis: Seat of the Soul, A Presentation of the Brain's importance to Arcane Workings.
Teana turned the little booklet in her hand, the gold lettering was a bit much, as was the title, mostly dealing with theoretical concepts that had yet to be proven or disproved, but when it came to the principal impetuous of the study, the effect of wizard shackles, the proof were very clear. The creatures effected brain chemistry in such a way that impended the use of magic. It had never been enchantment.
Once the substance was isolated it could be reproduced. While it certainly was not cheap, nor as insidious as the application of a shackle which could regulate the dose such as the victim would not escape the draining without first removing the thing, it was an anti-mage poison that could be coated on a crossbow bolt which would attack the core of that which made enemy mages dangerous. Every other comparable poison attacked general mental faculties which could be restored with a spell, but once actual spell-forms were lost only hours of rest or meditation could restore them.

The Lady of the Scholarum was always proud of the institution she had helped raise up, but today she would have more than the expected batch of numbers to show off to King Viserys. Those the Scholarum trained were truly delving into the unknown and finding their own answers to the mysteries of the arcane.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.
Loved this interlude, dude. Wish we could have more like it.
