I mainly see no point in pressing the issue. Either he learned his lesson or not.

And let's be honest, if we actually had been doing this for his benefit, we would have told him beforehand.
I get the feeling the Night's Watch would openly welcome Inquisition agents if it meant keeping cultists in check. They've got enough to worry about with the Others as is without having to deal with backstabbing traitors.

That would however run counter to the polite fiction that we have no pretty much annexed the Night's Watch.

However, we can start fully gearing them up for a real war when the dust has settled.

Honestly, we will propably everything we have to fight the Others when the time comes, so they will have no worse chances of dying than any of our soldiers.
Propably better due to having more experience.
That is true. I was more directly questioning the value of owning them if the most useful thing they can and will always do is "prepare for the long night/fight in the long night". But they have actually played dividends. The north is practically in our pocket, it makes us look good. It makes Robert and the Lannisters look terrible and it got us the starks.

The jury is still out if Ned Stark will be smart enough to not openly oppose us. He is still committed to put honour before reason and help Robert.

Even if he crit fails his Wis roll when the time comes, his most important vassals (Umbers, Mormonts, Manderlys, Boltons) are of the "hell fucking no" opinion in regards to standing against the Dragon King.

The North's muster is going to be an absolute embarrassment.

"Muster" is more or less the point anyway.
By the time Stark has any troops gathered, the whole thing will be decided already.

I doubt he will have any opportunity to fight us.

I pretty much just like Jon. (His sister are cool, so are the dogs.)

Ned deliberately made himself a pawn, were going to use him like one.

It's more about appearances. If he calls the banners and can't get together more then a ramshackle militia before we can park the Dauntless over Winterfell, we are free to show leniency, since he obviously did not actually mean to fight us.

If he does some great gesture about fighting us in the name of his late friends Roberts kids and marching an army south to do so, we have to deal with him like the traitor that would make him.

Luckily for him, the odds are greatly against him.

So what do we do with the Lannister kids? I wont lie some small part of me finds the idea of foisting them off onto ned amusing.

What, Jaime and Cersei's bastards?

They will be politically unimportant on the highest level.

Baratheons dethroned? Check.
Them secretly being incest bastards? Check.
The Lannister name in general getting stamped out, with nobody bearing that name ever allowed to gain power of any kind in the Imperium? Check.

Azel floated the idea of tossing them to Volantis with Zherys keeping an eye on them, and I'm leaning towards that these days. Cersei will know literally nobody there and will have no ability to cause trouble.

Maybe this will end up seeing the kids make something of themselves, trying to work themselves out of the shadow of their parents' folly. It'd be pretty neat to see a heroic Joffrey crawl from the mud years down the line, maybe as a Legion officer or something. But fingers crossed Myrcella hasn't made a deal with the eldritch abomination under the Red Keep yet. That'd be tricky.

She's like three.

Even Dany had to be like five or six before she started making deals with dark gods for power.

I hope she has, if only because of how damn funny it could be.

Put Joffrey in Sunspear, place Myrcella in Runestone and keep Tommen in Sorcerer's Deep.

Send Cersei to Volantis. Any of the kids want to visit her may do so at request.

I foresee those requests will stop coming when each visit is markedly less pleasant than the last as they lead happy, fulfilling lives free of her influence.

I somehow anticipate a spate of "wildings" that prevent them from properly rallying when the time comes.

Goddamn Crake. That's next fucking level.

I'd go with Runestone, Volantis and Braavos respectively. I doubt Doran would want Cerseis kids around.

And send Cersei to Mantarys to live a quiet life of contemplation and self-improvement.

However, that is predicated on Cersei not being blown to bits with the Small Council and Robert.

I think this arrangement works out better. Royces to whip Joffrey into shape, Zherys and the Mysterium to harness whatever magic Myrcella begins to show, and Braavos just for a great place for Tommen to live. Watch him meet Syrio and be instructed to chase cats all day.

But yeah, most of all I like the assassination idea for the Small Council. Talk about an explosive entrance.

Aren't we going to duel Robert? I suppose most people would simply drop their weapons when the side they are fighting for is dead.

Unless they want to commit suicide by breath weapon... Yeah, I have to take into account human stupidity too.
