I'd be curious to what people actually think a crafting hammer artifact would actually do mechanically. If its just save on cost/crafting time, I'm not sold on that being worth several thousand hd worth of sacrificesI just dont think we'll manage to restore the Hmmer, be it with Zathir, or any other God.
If we can?
Sure, let's do that instead.
(And I already said that, you know?)
I actually think Anu's lore should be unrecoverable from the corpse. The charnel god had forgotten it, so that lore shouldn't be there. But if we can't, empowering Stormy is still a nice thing to do all-around. Gets us another Deity to counter weather effects, gets us another Deity to call on in case we need a massive anti-God weapon like agaisnt Timmie, gets us one more active contender for faith in Westeros, and gets an easy way to recover Anu's lore.
I agree with Artemis, this is neat, but not in any way urgent. These all sound fine to me, but I need to know whether they are of any priority.
Do we want them (first tier at most?) done before Reconquest?
Do we want to keep researching powered armor and Inquisition armaments meanwhile as well?
Or do we want to keep on "Psionic Stuff"-research and proof our forges and crafters against it, throw more people at Godcrafting, and finish stuff like "forging elemental Outsiders", or at least starting tiers there?
DP already ruled some of it is recoverable, so we'll pull however much we can, unless DP decides to retcon now.I actually think Anu's lore should be unrecoverable from the corpse. The charnel god had forgotten it, so that lore shouldn't be there.
Oh I think there should be useful lore there, especially for our god making project, I just don't think there should be any crafting lore there.DP already ruled some of it is recoverable, so we'll pull however much we can, unless DP decides to retcon now.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Considering this would be an artifact reforged by a god of creation from the last remnants of another god of creation, I don't think it'd be as simple as it just saving on cost/crafting time. We should have some idea of what options we have when we talk to Zathir either way.I'd be curious to what people actually think a crafting hammer artifact would actually do mechanically. If it's unrecoverable that's fine. But if any of it is recoverable, the Storm God doesn't have the right synergy to get the lore we want. He only has a Sky Domain overlap, and the lore we're after is covered under the Creation Domain. It makes far more sense to recruit Zathir to get that lore for us since he actually has the correct Creation Domain overlap.Oh I think there should be useful lore there, especially for our god making project, I just don't think there should be any crafting lore there.
I can't speak for DP about what this effectivly means for our projects, but i do know the dead god's build, and while Anu-Simung had the Artifice Domain, the Charnel God was limited to 2 domains and dropped it like a hot potato in his quest for killing Dothraki. If it's unrecoverable that's fine. Let's see what options we have once Zathir takes a look at the hammer and the body, then.I can't speak for DP about what this effectivly means for our projects, but i do know the dead god's build, and while Anu-Simung had the Artifice Domain, the Charnel God was limited to 2 domains and dropped it like a hot potato in his quest for killing Dothraki.
The closest thing he had left was the Metal Domain.
Law and Knowledge.what domains does Viserys grant clerics again? i think it was fire and knowledge but i can't quite remember.
also all the gods (both ours and enemy gods) should probebly get their own threadmark instead of sitting in the rules and maps threadmark
Well damn, that sort of strength is unreal. Total dominion over your realm to the point of commanding rivers and mountains? The whole tying your health to your realm thing makes that less than ideal, of course."At first it worked very well. I know the crown grants one power over the land in ways no mortal magic could, dominion over the flow of the rivers and the march of the clouds, even the raising and wearing away of mountains, yet at the cost of binding the bearers life to that same land. As it sickened so would he. It also grants one the sort of utter authority within a domain as to be almost divine, or perhaps akin to the least of divinities," Lya explains.
"Which domains?" you ask keeping an even more wary eye upon the rooted circlet of vines.
"Balance and Strength," she replies. "The latter affinity comes with the power to change one's size from a grain of sand to the greatest of giants, both useful for a king whether he take fearsome mien in battle or sneak about unnoticed to listen to the intrigues of his court. The trouble came when I discovered the latter ability. No soner did I figure it out that the crown seemed to vanish altogether, that they fey had recovered it somehow or perhaps some other enemy had stolen it right from under my nose."
It grants total control of your realm. Yes. I very much want to eat that energy field. So, @Azel, we still want toeatbreak the thing to push our way into CoS' part of Feywild and kill their Queen?
The power of the Crown alone seems to be (almost) enough of a sacrifice there.
Yes. The Court of Stars needs to go, and the Crown of Flowers is the perfect tool to do it.So, @Azel, we still want toeatbreak the thing to push our way into CoS' part of Feywild and kill their Queen?
The power of the Crown alone seems to be (almost) enough of a sacrifice there.
Seconded. I want this power. I really want this power. It grants total control of your realm. Yes. I very much want to eat that energy field.
I would appreciate you phrasing the thing then, I am kinda only getting access to internet on-and-off right now.@egoo, for the hammer and the lore, the god corpse is more of a template than anything else. The power would be purely from Zathir through our favor with him, along with whatever favor we've gotten for building him a Grand Temple in Sorcerer's Deep.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.Of Curious Crowns
Twenty Sixth Day of the Second Month 294 AC
The choice is little choice at all in the end. You have made sacrifice of blood and you have made sacrifice of magic, but never have you made sacrifice of that which you truly consider treasure, the unique, the fascinating, the irreplaceable. Grim as the gateway anchored to the bone in Lya's hand might be, it certainly is that as much as any work of gold and gems.
"Well it's no crown, but it is more than worthy to rest in a vault than most such," you say in idle jest. At the word crown, Lya's expression sours and it takes you only a moment to guess why. "They fey crown was less than cooperative?"
"That's one way of putting it," she scoffs. "Come on, I'll show you when we put this away..."
***
Although you do not yet have the use of vaults delved beneath the palace-to-be, there are lesser chambers deep below the godswood that guards the Scholarum plinth. Here, amid the still slender roots of the weirwood, nothing can move without the Old Gods' knowledge. Even were it not so guarded, Lya had added her own protections when she had the time to guard those treasures which for one reason or another could not be brought into the Shadow Tower. You are content that the ruby encrusted bone and the gate it anchored would rest here in safety under the watchful gazes of Heralds. Still, you wonder at what could have caused the Fey crown to be taken here and not in the Tower's Shadow for study, until you see it.
The Vault of rune-carved stone, which must have once been bare, unlike the others you have seen down here was now filled with life, curtains of emerald vines hang from the ceiling and flowers bright as stars shine upon a carpet of moss. It feels almost like... "Is this the Feywyld?" you ask, perturbed.
"No, but not for lack of trying on the part of this," Lya motions to the crown rooted upon a pedestal of stone. "It did not take me long to realize that, like a flower closed for the night, it would be impossible to look inside until it opened at least a little. At first there did not seem to be a mind to it, just life, so I cautiously let it extend its influence a little for me to study. There is a dimensional anchor on the whole vault, of course, but I laid down wards even against the gaze of gods, fey wards, but of another kindred that the Court of Stars would have no knowledge of."
"I take it things did not go well?" you prompt, glancing at the crown with arcane senses, though you perceive nothing but a haze of twisting colors and dizzying glamors. Hardly surprising that it's not so easy to puzzle out, Lya has been working on this all month, after all.
"At first it worked very well. I know the crown grants one power over the land in ways no mortal magic could, dominion over the flow of the rivers and the march of the clouds, even the raising and wearing away of mountains, yet at the cost of binding the bearer's life to that same land.
"The latter affinity comes with the power to change one's size from a grain of sand to the greatest of giants, both useful for a king, whether he take fearsome mien in battle or sneaks about unnoticed to listen to the intrigues of his court. The trouble came when I discovered the latter ability. No sooner did I figure it out than the crown seemed to vanish altogether. At first I thought that the fey had recovered it somehow, or perhaps some other enemy had stolen it right from under my nose."
"But they hadn't," you can imagine why she had not shared that bit of news in the middle of the Sarnori campaign.
"No, the crown had just shrunk to something too small for the eye to see, but if I had thought it gone and eventually we cleared out the Vaults here..."
"It would just be sitting here, waiting for some fey agent to recover it," you finish. "So then there is a mind within trying to escape?" the words are hardly a question.
"I believe so. I think it welcomes my studies because I'm reminding it of its own powers. I'm not sure if it is worth studying further or if we should put it away until we have the palace vaults ready."
