Hell yes, Sandor's our first Praetorian! That said, @Azel, two things.

1. We should do his augments and gear with Imperial Steel instead of Dragonsteel.
2. Can you update the Praetorian infopost to account for Imperial Steel?
Imperial Steel isn't actually a thing yet. It's in the pipeline, though, and should be available within the next month or two, IIRC?

For now, Sandor's equipment is quite good and doesn't need to be updated further.

I only mentioned augmentations, Duesal.
I know you did, but you were replying to me as though I was only addressing augmentations when I was targeting the gear.

Dragonsteel gear for the Praetorians is going to be innately less effective than Imperial Steel gear thanks to that Ghost Touch property.

It isn't a thing yet, but IC we know we're going to be getting an upgraded version of Dragonsteel once Meraxes finishes the project.

The rest of his gear is perfectly serviceable.

Though you know, upgrading our Companions' armor with Ghost Ward would not be a bad idea.

I think their AC is improved against attacks from intangible Undead already, but only minutely. For the most upgraded gear, +5 vs. intangible touch attacks would be great when stacked with dexterity and the other ward.

@Crake, wasn't the overall idea that:
1) Viserys deal with assorted Fey-courts
1.1) Meanwhile, Rhaella diplomances Reach lords.
2) Viserys picks up Rhaella's slack after they are both done.
?

I'm getting confused as to when we are going to do the main thing that was written in Viserys' action-sheet this month.

These are necessary discussions to determine what to do about each of them in subsequent months. We have to A) get permission from Baelor to modify his city in any way, and B) we need to get an exposition dump at some point and I would rather get it now.

We'll be talking to Fey Courts first since I think people are going to start freaking out soon regardless if we talk to more Lords about why they should stop poking magic until they take a few courses in the Scholarum, or find less idiotic heirs.

Actually, there isn't much point in giving Sandor an Imperial Steel weapon, either. His Valyrian Steel greatsword has already been upgraded to +4, and it has a Greater Weapon Crystal of True Death, which not only increases its damage against Undead by +1d6, it also gives it the Ghost Touch property.

Not really worth it at this point. By now they're all wearing significantly upgraded armor which would cost a lot of time and resources to replace, or in cases of those like Garin or Waymar, isn't really possible due to the mechanics of their builds. Garin wears enchanted Mithral so he can fully benefit from his high Dexterity and Waymar wears bronze to gain the full benefit of his PRC.

What we can do, however, is provide all of them items that carry the Ghost Touch Armor spell. That's not only cheaper, but advantageous, because it's not always helpful to have your armor affected by a Ghost Touch effect, since that allows Incorporeal creatures to easily manipulate the armor.

Reminder that Ser Richard's armor hasn't been Valyrian Steel since the Monadic Deva upgraded it (@DragonParadox, that is something that should be looked into for Valyrian Steel research) and as such it can potentially be laced with Adamantine to give DR since it will no longer eat other metals).

50x Flame-born Young Scorpionfolk (12 HD, CR 7) Armed and Armored with +1 Lances and Suits of Plate -- located at ??
Came around to adding scroppeople to SD.
It's a weird place nowadays, even by "high fantasy city"-standards.

@DragonParadox, can we get an updoot on the Snek Port, their defenses specifically, and the numbers of the eggs hatched?
Ya can probably fit something like a "rumor post" for Sothoryos in there as well...

1x Herald

---Citizens---
312x Common Serpentfolk Eggs (Sun-Walker)
71x Hidden Fang Serpentfolk Eggs

43x Thirsting One Serpentfolk Eggs

I'll do a full write up of it soon.

  • [X] Meet with Lord Hightower first as a courtesy to his being Lord of the city.
-[X] There are a few matters to discuss:
--[X] Firstly: You have some idea of how to improve the city's defenses but they require significant, covert modifications to the catacombs and sewer passages, which might end up being quite invasive. The Lantern Bearers chief duties would be to keep people away from these for plausible reasons.
---[X] These methods include warded and lead-lined chambers or tunnels, plant servitors immune to the powers of the mind, and mold-driven soulforged dead capable of grappling with the greatest of horrors. Should a coordinated assault of the city occur by the Deep Ones it will come from these vectors and the Lantern Bearers, while great for uncovering hidden threats and acting as a last line of defense, are not at this time equipped to handle the attrition from the kind of fighting that will involve. At least, not without greater levels of funding than Lord Baelor might be willing to commit to that force without compromising not only their reliability, credibility, but also trust. Most of the Lantern Bearers seem to be involved in the work out of deeply personal reasons, and most Lords do not seem willing to engage in the systematization of military service as Viserys is.
----[X] Coincidentally, including Purification systems throughout the sewer system would lead to cleaner, clearer waters, deal with any lead contaminants from outflows into the bay, and also curb attempts at biological warfare, though a similar system would have to be introduced into the drinking supplies.
--[X] Secondly: You want to know about House Hightower and their allies' movements in the political arena. You will brief him on matters involving the Fey pacting with Lords for proper context. You have another group researching this right now and are determining the best way to deal with it.
---[X] This would be much easier, admittedly, if you could trust House Tyrell, but you would rather have a handful of prominent Lords you can rely on without question such as Lord Baelor and Lord Tarly. Even Lord Florent wouldn't do anything without your sayso, if not for altogether desirable reasons.
--[X] Thirdly: You want to start to grapple with matters of Citadel politics soon, so learning more about what they have been up to, how factions align, and other useful information so you are not meddling with it blindly.
---[X] You have a well-placed contact within the Citadel through one of your guises, but that seems more of use to exploit as a social lever, if you want to have a reason to be in the Citadel and find time to talk to others within its halls, but you doubt you will get the opportunity to linger long enough to investigate anything of worth. A better reason to be in the Citadel, of greater status than mere acolyte who will be restricted in their travels, would be ideal.
--[X] Lastly: You want to hear about the Faith and what objectives they have been pursuing.
---[X] Having the angle from both the Most Devout, the leading lay figures such as prominent brothers and sisters, as well as the High Septon, would be ideal, since those three all would have vastly different goals from each other.
----[X] Everyone else besides Richard will spread through the City and take on a different aspect of your interest in it and begin their own investigations. You expect to spend time raising relations with House Hightower for the better part of a day before evaluating what to focus on next month from what you learn here.

@Duesal, I'll not add Imperial Steel until we actually have it.

@Goldfish, @Crake, it bears remembering that we never used the actual Ghost Touch enchantment from the DMG, since it's a +3 enchantment for armor, but the Ghost Ward variant from the Magic Item Compendium, which is +1. They are mechanically distinct in that Touch grants the armors Enhancement Bonus against Incorporeal attacks, while Ward grants it against all touch attacks.

Hence Ward being a very interesting property for everyone and also the one that's supposed to go on Imperial Steel.

That in mind, I need to update the Construct Armor for Imperial Steel. The inherent Ghost Ward frees up a +1 ability.

Part MMMCDXCIX: In Most Uncommon Company
In Most Uncommon Company

Fifteenth Day of the First Month 294 AC

The Seeker accompanies you from the courtyard, cloak billowing in the afternoon breeze, though by the time you make it back into the keep it had taken on a glamoured form possessed of only two arms, though as ever the face it adopts is not one to incline strangers to chat. By contrast the pair of mind dragons show up in human form with their hair dyed brilliant blue after the Tyroshi fashion and wearing layered veils in the manner of the djinn lords. A more obvious set of spies you would have a hard time contemplating...

"We are hiding in plain sight," one of the pair tries at your look in askance.

"Try to look a bit more plain then," you offer, struggling not so smile. It is easy to forget how young they are sometimes, but at times like these it is plain as the sun in the sky.

There is a knock on the window behind you.

You do not turn around. "Come in Kira, we were just getting ready to depart." Hopefully.

The incarnate floats in, gigging and wholly unrepentant. Ser Richard murmurs something almost inaudible from the back of the room and you suspect the trio of furies who entered with him would join him if they needed to make use of something as crude as words to mark their displeasure.

Qyburn and company drift in shortly afterwards... well, as much as an animate corpse encased in hardened steel can drift at least, but its guiding intelligence does seem to be looking around with genuine interest, quickly striking up a conversation with Kira abut the potential dangers of Oldtown and the worth of the enemies remains once slain.

"I'm glad there won't be quite so many of us in Lord Hightower's solar," your mother says diplomatically. She had obviously thought better than attempting to curb the increasingly bloody conversation.

Danar and Alyssa are the last into the meeting, looking more lighthearted after spending some time with their daughter. "Oldtown eh?" the Skagosi asks. "Dangerous place I heard, though I'm betting not as much as all of us."

"Best not to put that to the test," you reply even as everyone joins in a circle for the journey, living and dead, mortal and immortal.

***

The stone flies from under your feet and you are in and alley near the Honeywine, the Quill and Tankard just barely in sight. "Ahh," Qyburn sighs. "This brings back memories."

"Good ones?" Danar asks, curious in spite of himself about the soft spoken flesh-smith whom even the younger dragons treat with the respect of a favored uncle.

"Remarkable ones," he replies. Osryx and the mind dragons all nod in understanding while the skald seems to think the better of asking any further questions, for now at least. An excess of caution is not in his nature you know.

While Qybirn and company go about their business through the winding streets and Elaheh lets slip below them, the others slip into the city to begin their own investigations regarding what has gone on in the Reach in past days, leaving only you and Ser Richard to head towards the Hightower itself and receive news from its lord.

***

Baelor Hightower greets you with a smile worthy of his more common moniker, though from the stacks of parchment hastily tucked out of sight you suspect he would have circles under his eyes were it not for the band of enchanted sliver you spy upon his left hand. Though you cannot read its aura you can certainly read the shaitan script on it, a ring of sustenance. "I must warn you, my lord, that even with twenty two hours awake every day there still does not seem to be enough of them," you offer in jest.

"Alas, Your Grace, that I have already discovered," he replies ruefully. "To what do I owe the honor of your company?"

You go on to explain that you have some idea how to improve the city's defenses, particularly in the sewers and catacombs, adding however that that such alterations will not be easy to enact. From simple purification rings to lead-lined chambers and corridors to making use of green-born servitors immune to enchantment and other powers of the mind to soul-forged unliving driven by puppeteer molds there is much you could to to make Oldtown safer, and you do not hesitate in naming any of those means plainly.

"The Lantern Bearers while excellent at their current task would not be able to stem an all out assault from the sea," you finish simply. "I need them to help keep any inquisitive souls away from the underground works while these defenses are put in place."

"Of course..." He shakes his head. "Strange business having to set up protections against the enemies of all in secret, but hopefully that will not last much longer. I do have one question for you before we continue, broadly speaking how much authority will I have over these defenders of Oldtown? I have seen battle before, if not of this sort, and know how important it is to have a clear line of local command in case of sudden attack."

What do you reply?

OOC: Hope this does not jump around too much while I was getting everyone to where they needed to go with a bit of interaction to keep things flowing.
