Whence Giants Walk
Tenth Day of the First Month 294 AC
Flowers can speak and magic might whisper its secrets to you, you know, having dared far stranger and more perilous circumstances than this for knowledge's sake, but you and your companions are not alone here and you would not risk them to whatever attack might come from disturbing this working. Unlike in Thenn you have no army here. Whatever these flowers may signify can wait a few days longer until the giants are on the path south.
Which begs the question of how you are going to get almost four hundred giants and seven hundred mammoths into your lands. Once you are south of the Wall it should be easy enough, use the demiplane to ferry them over, it is large enough to fit them all with room to spare, but it is the journey through the Haunted Forest that troubles you the most. It's about sixty leagues to Castle Black as the crow flies, closer to eighty on paths mammoths can travel and graze along the way. Both beast and giant are more hardy than more common caravans would be, but even so they will take eight or nine days to reach the Wall.
Ordinarily you would not be too worried about the safety of hundreds of giants marching together. It would take an army of wildling to face them and few beasts even in these times of awakening would have the stomach to nip at their heels, but you have no doubt the Others remember Thenn too and all that they had lost there, in treasure, unliving thralls and even in the life of one of their own lords to Waymar's new sword.
"I could do it. I would still have almost three weeks in the Reach to study fey magics," Lya offers at once. After a moment's pause she adds as though it had just occurred to her. "Plus I'm the most expendable one if it does come to a fight, this is just a body after all."
Hells to that... The words 'expendable' and Lya should never be in the same sentence in your opinion. "Death is not the worst danger out here."
"You can't raise a soul to unlife if it's still bound to living flesh, that is one of the fundamental principles of necromancy. Wyla and Qyburn both agree that it would be impossible to do within anything
resembling the paradigm of that sphere of sorcery," she counters. "Our enemy may be more knowledgeable in the art than they, but I'm hardly likely to meet the Night's King on a stroll through the forest with the giants."
She does make sense, you have to admit, Lya almost never lacks for that. "Well... alright, you should still be cautious of curses and other ills."
"Always," she smiles.
"You know..." Dany begins with a smile as she waves Xor over from a few of his newfound friends. "It is called the
Haunted Forest. If the Night's King would be so kind as to show up to die in midsummer I'd not begrudge him for it."
"Don't..." Rina cuts herself off. "Don't jest about that, Your Highness. They are..."
"It's Dany, shorter and avoids making it sound like I'm some sort of royal effigy lashed to a standard," your sister interrupts. "And I do know they are powerful, but I will not give them more power over me through fear. Our enemy can die, not just their thralls, not just their puppets, but they themselves. Waymar proved that." She gives a small bow towards the young knight who just rolls his eyes, an expression he seems to have picked up from Tyene.
"It was a bloody hard fight though," he says. "I wouldn't mind a way to get the giants to the Deep faster if we could. Do they really need the mammoths?"
"Probably not, but it's going to be about as hard to separate them as the Dothraki from their horses," you interject. "Their entire way of life so far has depended on the mammoth herds with hunting and foraging adding to it as circumstances allowed. Magical mammoths down south are going to be a hard sell."
"You could probably make it though," Tyene points out. "You could sell sand in Hellholt if you tried hard enough."
She does have a point, but the question is do you want to try? Magical means of carrying this many giants would not come easily and part of you rather wants to parade the last of the giants through the gates of the Wall to make it clear that they too have sanctuary in your lands alongside the Singers.

OOC: I used the average walk speed of elephants to judge how fast the giants could go long distance. I figured all of them would have the stamina go eight hours per day, not including stopping for food and grazing. If you guys figure out how to speed up everyone involved that would of course factor into the final calculus.
