It might be that all the giants here make it possible to find out what's happening with the Fist. I say prepare for an attack and make sure we have permission from the giants for everything we try to do.
Bring everyone and have them ready then poke the thing..
Quite possibly, but for the moment at least getting the Giants to safety is a bigger priority.

In Thenn Valley we at least had the firepower to throw back a concentrated assault from the Others. Here we just have Viserys and a select few Companions. If we make a wrong move there goes the last of the Westerosi Giants.

Part MMMCDLXXXIX: Whence Giants Walk
Whence Giants Walk

Tenth Day of the First Month 294 AC

Flowers can speak and magic might whisper its secrets to you, you know, having dared far stranger and more perilous circumstances than this for knowledge's sake, but you and your companions are not alone here and you would not risk them to whatever attack might come from disturbing this working. Unlike in Thenn you have no army here. Whatever these flowers may signify can wait a few days longer until the giants are on the path south.

Which begs the question of how you are going to get almost four hundred giants and seven hundred mammoths into your lands. Once you are south of the Wall it should be easy enough, use the demiplane to ferry them over, it is large enough to fit them all with room to spare, but it is the journey through the Haunted Forest that troubles you the most. It's about sixty leagues to Castle Black as the crow flies, closer to eighty on paths mammoths can travel and graze along the way. Both beast and giant are more hardy than more common caravans would be, but even so they will take eight or nine days to reach the Wall.

Ordinarily you would not be too worried about the safety of hundreds of giants marching together. It would take an army of wildling to face them and few beasts even in these times of awakening would have the stomach to nip at their heels, but you have no doubt the Others remember Thenn too and all that they had lost there, in treasure, unliving thralls and even in the life of one of their own lords to Waymar's new sword.

"I could do it. I would still have almost three weeks in the Reach to study fey magics," Lya offers at once. After a moment's pause she adds as though it had just occurred to her. "Plus I'm the most expendable one if it does come to a fight, this is just a body after all."

Hells to that... The words 'expendable' and Lya should never be in the same sentence in your opinion. "Death is not the worst danger out here."

"You can't raise a soul to unlife if it's still bound to living flesh, that is one of the fundamental principles of necromancy. Wyla and Qyburn both agree that it would be impossible to do within anything resembling the paradigm of that sphere of sorcery," she counters. "Our enemy may be more knowledgeable in the art than they, but I'm hardly likely to meet the Night's King on a stroll through the forest with the giants."

She does make sense, you have to admit, Lya almost never lacks for that. "Well... alright, you should still be cautious of curses and other ills."

"Always," she smiles.

"You know..." Dany begins with a smile as she waves Xor over from a few of his newfound friends. "It is called the Haunted Forest. If the Night's King would be so kind as to show up to die in midsummer I'd not begrudge him for it."

"Don't..." Rina cuts herself off. "Don't jest about that, Your Highness. They are..."

"It's Dany, shorter and avoids making it sound like I'm some sort of royal effigy lashed to a standard," your sister interrupts. "And I do know they are powerful, but I will not give them more power over me through fear. Our enemy can die, not just their thralls, not just their puppets, but they themselves. Waymar proved that." She gives a small bow towards the young knight who just rolls his eyes, an expression he seems to have picked up from Tyene.

"It was a bloody hard fight though," he says. "I wouldn't mind a way to get the giants to the Deep faster if we could. Do they really need the mammoths?"

"Probably not, but it's going to be about as hard to separate them as the Dothraki from their horses," you interject. "Their entire way of life so far has depended on the mammoth herds with hunting and foraging adding to it as circumstances allowed. Magical mammoths down south are going to be a hard sell."

"You could probably make it though," Tyene points out. "You could sell sand in Hellholt if you tried hard enough."

She does have a point, but the question is do you want to try? Magical means of carrying this many giants would not come easily and part of you rather wants to parade the last of the giants through the gates of the Wall to make it clear that they too have sanctuary in your lands alongside the Singers.

How do you send the giants south?

[] On foot
-[] Write in escort

[] By magic

OOC: I used the average walk speed of elephants to judge how fast the giants could go long distance. I figured all of them would have the stamina go eight hours per day, not including stopping for food and grazing. If you guys figure out how to speed up everyone involved that would of course factor into the final calculus.

Bah, the restrictions of travel on foot. And there are too many to stuff into the Moonchasers to boot.

I wish we were of a higher Mythic Rank. We could turtle all of them, collect them, then fly south.

Just a quick thought that might be unfeasible: could we send the giants south already with the Moonchaser and the other ships, possibly in multiple flights? We could then leave a companion or two with some troops and a few giant herders to escort the mammoths to the wall. It reduces the attractivity of attacking the mammoths, makes it harder to attack the giants, while hopefully keeping the giants happy.

We could just reassign assets to their escort. It's not like we're lacking them, we are just extremely (maybe overly) cautious elsewhere.

PR be damned we need to get them out of here ASAP.

If I was a cold hearted void lined piece of shit I'd be monitoring the hell out of these guys. The minute they act out of character, say by going towards the south in direct violation of my trap, I'd be pissed.

We don't need to poke the flowers to set these assholes off, and I'd rather get all of the VIP's out as quickly as possible.

Don't care if we have to bottle the lot and shove them into our cloak, whatever works we need to get it done.

Problem is there are just so many to bottle.

Ahem... giants are humanoids, so reduce person works, then teleport, a few at a time. The opposite of Animal Growth spell would do the same for the mammoths. Sure, it'll take a few days' work for the highest level casters, but doable and probably safer and much, much faster.

Magical means of carrying the mammoths do come easily though, the mammoth are animals so we don't have to care about their feelings, that mean we can Polymorph them, and just transport them as a few hundred turtles.

or heck shadow of the doom the mammoths, collect the mammoth statues, and turn them back into mammoths in the south.

Edit. Yeah I think Shadow of the doom, is the easiest way to transport the mammoths, it's not something you do to friends, so we shouldn't do it to the giants, but transporting the mammoths, are already half the job done.

Two things:

1) Build wagons. So that the hairy elephants take turns to pull them and are always moving, that divides travel time by 3.
2) Magical buffs on reduce amount of animals, like haste or whatever else there is to buff.
3) Speculation: use Miracle to summon a herd of Spectral Steeds to carry almost everyone.

Well a set of Titan's Tools to level out terrain/clear growth + Fabricated big wagons might actually work, in theory, except the mammoths aren't trained to handle being hitched to them. You would have to control each mammoth via magic not to freak out.

How many shadow steeds can we conjure, if we use all our spell slots? Because if we can make shadow steeds for all the giants, we can Shadow of the doom the mammoths, then have them restored to flesh, whenever we have spare spell slots.

This is Beyond the Wall, so unfortunately this is directly affected by the Builder's Anchor which prevents casual teleport. If it weren't for that we could just bring them into the Shadow Tower or the Imperial Demiplane.

Speak with animals+Vee should work wonders to prevent them from freaking out. We can offer them juicy unfrozen grass!
