Mages' Craft
Twenty-Sixth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC
Better not to trouble the Old Gods over perilous bargains you have no one in mind to make.
Perhaps Ysandrix, you think remembering the dragon's desire to follow in Dany's wake, but not yet. You have much more urgent need to their aid in subverting the rituals of the Court of Stars. The lore you have gained from the Faceless Men will keep as well in the dark fastnesses of the Shadow Tower as it did in the bowels of the House of Black and White.
Speaking of the Shadow Tower and the mages even now vying for a place in the oldest and most prestigious branch of the Scholarum, mages now have one more reason to seek a place in Sorcerer's Deep once their studies have advanced enough that they have mastered spells of the third circle. What is in many places in the Empire mastery constitutes knowledge one must possess to appreciate the lectures of Djinn mages for which the icy winds are as close as their own breath. According to Teana the lectures have been drawing crowds from the first day, though it quickly became apparent that many concepts and techniques did not translate perfectly when wielded by beings of flesh and blood rather than wind and wishcraft. Still the lecturers sent from Armun Kelisk had been quite willing to adapt, eager in fact since they were all volunteers seeking to expand their own horizons.
A pity the Stormweavers were not not able to send anyone yet. Hopefully their own curiosity will be piqued by the accounts of their fellow and the strictures of wars will allow at least a few of their masters to visit soon.
Cryomancer Lecturer Added to Scholarum, Lore Exchange not yet Solidified
The student exchange with Guild of Shapers on the other hand has been far more immediately fruitful, their techniques were designed for quick study by craftsmen whose main craft is not magic itself, but instead sculpture, carpentry, smithing, tailoring, and countless others in which a touch of sorcery can add polish or speed. Their place among the Djinn has more in common with your low mages and ritual casters, allowing for the greater prevalence of magic among the sky cities.
Magewrights Training will begin on the First Month of Next Year (Tier 2 Spell Casting Class equivalent to Adepts and Hedge Mages)

According to Soft Strider, the training given to Windbow Auxiliaries has proven a touch more difficult to make use of. The closest tradition to it already being taught is the Singers' own woodscraft and songs of lore, but teaching 'more of song and less of cunning' goes against the grain. "Had I asked my own teacher for something like this, she would have told me to seek the gods and trouble her no more," the Singer admits, amusement shining in her deep green eyes. "Yet these are not the woods of my youth," she adds wryly, motioning over the surrounding woods where men, Singers, Serpentfolk, Essarians, and even a pair of adventurous Ifrit seek to not only pass the challenges of the day but unravel its mysteries also.
What proportion of rangers should be trained in the new style starting next month?
[] One Third, better to err on the side of scout's craft and skill with blade and bow
[] Half, a balanced approach
[] Two Thirds, magic will often see one safe where mundane skills fail
OOC: Rather short, but I did not want to pass through all these without some kind of player engagement, particularly as these are some emblematic moments for how the Scholarum brings together different philosophies of studying magic.
