@Crake your omake is great too, I don't know much about the material it's crossed with, but it's always nice to see Ser Richard confuse people. Is there anything in that world he could just parry with his class ability the way he could a spell? That's bound to get a strong reaction.

A Strange Day

Eighteenth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

"Your Father has need of you, little lady," the words were strange in Shireen's ears, not because she did not spend time with her father, rather more time than most children of her station and age, if Mara's occasional not-quite-grumbles were to be believed. He would read to her in the evenings on Maiden's Day. Although the stories were not as interesting as the fairy stories her nurses read, or even her mother's reading from the big red book of the Lord of Light, Shireen did not mind since on Father's Day he would ask her questions about some of the things he had read and she could ask some of her own questions in exchange. It was always on the same days, and he had only missed eight of those days since he had started last year. Her Lord Father would always spend twice as long on their talks the next week to make up for it, and he always scowled more then.

It had taken the girl a while to realize he was not upset at her, but at the idea that he could be late, that things did not work out exactly like he had planned. But he had not missed a day this week, and anyway it was Smith's Day. Shireen hoped he was not scowling, whatever it was he needed her for.

Maybe it was an unexpected visitor, she thought as she followed Old Firn down the increasingly familiar corridors of Storm's End. Definitely nicer than Dragonstone, even if that was more magic. She was a stag, not a dragon like Dany, so this was her place. If it is a visitor and they made father scowl, she would kick them, she decided abruptly. He worked really, really hard, and didn't have any time to play for himself. She had asked mother about that, but everyone just kept on asking him to do more things, and then they weren't even grateful. Shireen had heard the servants talk about it when she was really quiet, and took to wandering the halls. They called him mean things, she had only thought they were mean before, but then she asked Dany and she had explained that they were definitely mean. Why were they going outside?

The rain hit her face, cold and clean, and for a moment all Shireen could think of was how happy she was that she could feel it all over. Being scarred hadn't been that bad, not as bad as people who weren't her parents or Maester Cressen thought, but the reminder always hurt. Shireen liked being in the rain, but she didn't want to worry mother, so she didn't go out to feel it often, not to mention the stone dragons had been scary.

A tiny silver dragon much nicer than those old things flashed above her. "Dany!" the girl said, delighted. Oh it would be that sort of visit, she could feel a wide grin pulling at the corners of her mouth. She almost never got to see Dany here here, just in dreams that could kind of look like Storm's End, but weren't really in a way she couldn't put into words.

"What're we doing?" Shireen asked over the boom of thunder. She tried to keep herself from sounding too excited. She was only five years old, she did not do it very well. Was this a magic thing?

Her father opened his mouth to say something, but very strangely for him he did not look like he knew what to say. Definitely a magic thing then. She looked towards Dany's brother, who was a big dragon.

"Pledging your House to the Storm God," he replied simply.

"Pledge, like to a lord?" Shireen looked around at the faces of the others. "Father's busy, he can't do stuff for another... er, thing." It belatedly occurred to the girl that this might not be entirely polite, but it was not like there were rules for standing on top of the cliffs getting rained on, so there.

Lightning flashed and thunder peeled, sounding somehow amused. Now the storm was laughing at her. Shireen thrust out her chin and crossed her arms. For some reason that made maester Cressen chuckle and even the pretty dark haired girl smiled in spite of herself.

"Shireen..." her father began in warning, but Dany's brother raised his hand asking to speak first and father let him. "This is part of making sure your father will have more time to himself in the future."

"How come?" she asked suspiciously.

"Well, lordship is about more than the lord making requests upon his vassal, it's about the lord helping out, too. That's his responsibility. Gods aren't quite like that, but close enough."

"Oh, alright then," Shireen nodded. The girl watched wide-eyed as the pretty girl, Ceria was her name, shaped a table out of the stone and her father placed a hand on it wet with his blood. She didn't scream when he got hit by lightning, though she did taste blood in her mouth for biting her lip.

Father only let her touch the stone when Ceria assured him that she wouldn't get hit with lightning, which Shireen secretly thought was a little unfair. It would be nice to be able to brag about being hit by lightning, much more interesting than getting a new kitten like Tansy.

Lightning flashed in the sky, searingly bright, but she didn't turn away. There was an old man in the light. Grandfather.? No, lots and lots of greats between him and her, but still kin. That made a lot of sense. Why didn't they tell it that way?

Grownups,
Shireen concluded, could be rather silly.

OOC: I'm going to need a vote of what you guys want to do or to see next, but I can't justify breaking up the flow of the interlude for it. Not yet edited.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

I loved Shireen's POV! :)

Well, there's actual magic, but it's pretty rare.

And then there's Dust effects, which is TOTALLY NOT MAGIC I SWEAR, which is less so.

Strangely enough, he could parry both and it would be GREATLY CONCERNING.

Just like we've got Uncle Bloodraven, Shireen will have Grandfather Storm.

Though fun fact, @DragonParadox, Viserys and Dany have some of his blood as well. Way way back a Baratheon married into the dynasty.

Stealing this plan from @Azel.

[X] Meraxes being worshipped as actively as she is is a fine thing - except we know of the danger that grows alongside her.
-[X] Talk to Zherys and Meraxes, try to ensure she doesn't "return to life" for a while longer so that we won't have to worry about the 15th getting proactive.

Not in the same line we're descended from IIRC. Rhaenys' kids all died pretty much, none married back into the line of Jaehaerys.

Edit: Well, I mean they did, actually... I don't know how to explain this without it being pretty embarrassing for our dynasty, but well, Laenor got cuckolded and Laena had kids with Daemon, but they weren't relevant past the Dance. And never married back their blood into the main line.

Not what I'm talking about.

Give me a second to get the exact person.
This might help.

AFAIK, the times Targaryen and Baratheon intermingled, it was marriages outside of the main line, and they never propagated back into it. The one time it almost did was the Dance-era, but well, we know that Rhaenys' kids weren't the best at doing what they were told.

We don't, and Brynden hasn't brought it up.

We can deduce the memories are painful for him.

She kind of faded into history. Probably even Bloodraven doesn't know, since he was forced to take the black and thus wasn't around for the later years of her life.

This is more than a little frustrating for me.

I was originally going off of this tree:

With Ellyn Baratheon marrying Lord Benjicot Blackwood (and being the ancestor of Queen Betha Blackwood), but on closer inspection there's no evidence in the wikis to support that this marriage ever happened. -_- If there were more expansive canon family trees available I might be able to sift through the trees every time someone married into the Targaryens, but there isn't enough info. There's the Velaryons, the Daynes, the Blackwoods, the Arryns, and the Martells off the top of my head. But their trees didn't seem to matter beyond immediate marriages into the royal family.

So currently no Baratheon blood in us. Not that it would have mattered even if there was. Any potential storm god influence is vastly drowned out by our Red Dragon heritage.
