To nitpick here, depends on the undead.
Zombies and Skeletons drop all classlevels, only care for RHD.

For the souls you are correct though.
While they drop all class levels, I've always seen their HD gained from class levels added to the total HD for the purpose of raising them. Otherwise, you couldn't raise a basic human skeleton, what with humans not coming with RHD.

A high-level soul likely makes for better Outsiders.

So their value increases with time.

Likewise, a high-level body makes for better undead.

So their value increases even more.

You wouldn't kill a piglet when you could wait for it to become a fat, juicy sow, right?
Most ways of making undeads that let them keep their class levels, require you to stuff the soul back into the body, so why would we do that to our Legionaires? When we can just stuff the bodies into the Fungus Forge, and make the soul into an Outsider.

Part MMMCCCXIII: From Deepest Seas to Sunrise Plains
From Deepest Seas to Sunrise Plains

Ninth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

Your first instinct is to accept, reincarnation is useful certainly but only a spell of the Fourth Circle, easily within the grasp of genie wishcraft to mirror... too easy. Why would the emir request consent to obtain something he already had only in a slightly more convenient manner? Why would any genie, much less one of such power, request the aid of gods however indirectly? Perhaps it has something to do with the Succession itself, the renewal, and if there is one thing you do not wish to do is meddle in the succession of another realm unknowingly. You are looking for more allies not more wars.

"I am afraid I cannot allow agents of a foreign power to recruit sorcerers in my realm with so little understanding of the situation," you reply to the herald, wrapping the almost-refusal in as much courtesy as you can manage.

Alas it is not enough, or perhaps he speaks the full truth when he says that the emir is too entangled in affairs of state to offer an audience to unexpected guests. Either ways you make a note to warn the Inquisition that there might be Dawa recruiters seeking those able to reincarnate the dead in need of watching. Bloodraven too, you almost smile, he would not take kindly to any intrigues that might harm the interests of the Old Gods or the realm and if there is anyone who might find the answers for you it is he. For now however, you and Lya travel back to Sorcerer's Deep, leaving Moonsong to show the flag and recruit what sellswords she can find.

***

"Did anything of note arrive in my absence?" you ask seemingly to empty air outside your study, knowing that Hestior is near when you return from a journey.

"A short message from Her Grace," the hearth spirit replies.

Short is something of an understatement. Your mother's note is only seventeen words long: Jon Bulwer stands with us, do not invite him to any entertainment more sophisticated than a hunt.

You snort in amusement as you hand Lya the note, though she only glances at it, still struggling to get some odd salts out of her hair that resist simple arcane cleaning. "The Reach seems well in hand," she says after a moment. "Perhaps we should look to the east in preparation for the battle."

So you do, the earth and sea flying under your feet under the power of translocation as you seek out your companions scouting the Golden Company and making the final preparations do deal with Bittersteel's legacy and Tiamat's influence once and for all.

There is of course no camp to find, no fire to cast telltale smoke into the heavens, no footprints to mark the particular patch of dry grass as any different from another in the vast expanse of the plains of the Jogos Nhai, to show that beneath them lies buried a stone with your mark upon it. Listening closely you can hear the almost imperceptible hum of the small arcane portals your companions are using to rest and plan in. You wonder if you would have realized what it is if you had not been paying attention, though the thread of thought is quickly lost as Dany gracefully slips down one rope to hug you and Lya in turn and ask how things had gone in your travels.

Ser Richard, Tyene and Waymar greet you no less enthusiastically if a touch more sedately while Rina and Teana climb down last, bringing the reports acquired so far. "Ahh, adventure in distant lands, not quite how I was expecting," the Headmistress of the Scholarum sighs dramatically. "Still, at least everyone here has either decent penmanship or a calligraphy wyrm."

You look over what they have found so far, the newly revealed powers of the drakes are somewhat troubling, the ordinary soldiers far less so and as for the news of R'hllor worship, that is a boon unlooked for, but one to be grateful for just the same.

What do you do?

[] Continue scouting, there is much you do not yet know of
-[] The wizards in general
-[] The priests of Tiamat
-[] The elephant riding mages
-[] The drakes and their riders
-[] The young dragon you heard of and any others of that kindred
-[] The boy Aegon and any immediate guards or companions
-[] Write in targets

[] Contact Ser Dick Cole to see if you can gain a first hand account of the company's position beyond what ledgers and shadow spies can tell

[] Write in

OOC: This jumps around quite a bit, but hopefully it's not too jarring.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

The scouting is well in hand, but this could use a personal touch.

We eventually need:
1. The amount and skill of the Tiamat Clerics & Acolytes
2. All info on F!Aegon and whatever guards/companions he has
3. The exact numbers of the Tiamat Drakes, both adolescent and mature, and what their riders do
4. Intel on how many other dragons are loose in the world (this includes finding out how many true dragons Tiamat has in the wings if that intel is available)
5. Intel on the mages of the Golden Company, how strong they are, what projects they're working on (reminder, apparently they've got rudimentary Flesh Forging skills)
6. Intel on what fiends have been summoned, that one Essarion Demonbinder probably wasn't alone in her skill

While they drop all class levels, I've always seen their HD gained from class levels added to the total HD for the purpose of raising them. Otherwise, you couldn't raise a basic human skeleton, what with humans not coming with RHD.
They are, by the template, dropped to a minimum of one.
A human (and most other PC races) must have at least one classlevel after all, or they would not have existed.

Finally caught up, took me months, the way it is organized makes it kinda hard for new readers, but I really liked.
By far the most complex quest I ever seen and I am impressed with the qm ability to keep up with it all.

Welcome aboard! It's always nice to have another questor join the insanity.

It also gets ever more impressive when folks catch up, considering the length. :)

I wonder if Dick is one of the R'hllorites who believe Viserys is the Azor Ahai?

That could make things simpler.

Or he might assume Egg is, and had been led astray. Though in that case, our mutual 'goal' of 'rescuing' him would actually be in alignment.

I'm impressed he's been able to hide that shrine. That's not an insignificant amount of magic, and as far as we know, Dick isn't a mage. He might not be the only R'hllorite hidden in the Golden Company and one of them could be a mage.

It must be awkward to find a moment to space out and stare into the flame. As far as we know, that's how R'hllorites commune with the Red God, and staring into bright, harsh light isn't really something people do without a reason.
