Bah. Always this dragon obsession...

I'd take planar scattering to get those sweet 36 Point-Buy and take a human with Suzerain template, giving me Leadership and 26 charisma. Take a level of Sorc, Precocious Apprentice, then 2 levels of Favored Soul and Alternate Source Spell. Now ride Mystic Theurge and Sage of Creation to 20th.

Done.

Strategy would depend mostly on where I end up, but I should have no big trouble getting a comfortable amount of power going before considering long-term options, but with access to both Arcane and Divine 9th levels, this should be a doozy.

Hey, sometimes you just want to be an almighty archmage whilst simultaneously being a flying armored fighting vehicle with a flamethrower in your mouth... or literally any other energy just about.

Get caught in a AMF? Try again, still a Dragon.

Hit with Avasculate? Not a good situation, but half of a "fuckton" of HP is still a shitton.

SR and all good saves? Well after a certain point it's all mostly SoD tag anyway.

That is a good strategy, and I considered something similar except with the Sublime template rather than Suzerain, but I wanted to front load my survivability to a reasonable degree. Not all Planes are safe or hospitable, and starting in the Plane of Water or Fire would be especially awful without some baseline spellcasting already baked in.

@TalonofAnathrax Even with the guarantee at the beginning you aren't in immediate hot water, there is no way I would rely on my own cleverness not to die to something embarrassing in the Game of Thrones setting. Petty abuses of power are a standard from the outset, it's only recently in this setting that a little thing called "accountability" has reared its ugly head for a few more people (and disappeared entirely for another select few, beyond what they impose on themselves of course).

If I had to rebuild without an Outsider or Dragon as an option, I would still ensure I started out able to just peace out or fight my way out of a variety of minor complications like "irate noble gets annoyed you spilled wine on his doublet, calls for your head".

@Azel, your build is nice, but why not do it all on top of a Dragon chassis? By taking a dragon now you're just delaying those levels, not replacing them.

@Crake relying on my own cleverness isn't something I'd like to do normally. But hey, you're making me a peak human genius with access to magic and amazing disguise and escape abilities. It'll work out.

Then I'd rather take Ultiharid + Lich instead of Lizard.

At this point, you are just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian
[:V]
I merely have zero interest to be part of the shitshow that is Tiamat.

Also, the Lizards are overrated. I can have my moon base set up and be done training the Ironborn as my space-pirates as a Ultiharid long before a Lizard has reached useful age categories.

Yeah, but long-term unless you're going to be an Illithid Savant or a Dusk Giant going full cheese, it's basically the best powerup because it stacks with everything else.

My best plan is to choose to become a Metallic dragon, along with my 11 companions, I will choose to grab 11 fictional heroes Bahamut would be happy with, and I will choose heroes who are about to die, then I will use the fact that them being heroes I just saved from death, and gave a second chance to be heroic, is likely going to make them rather protective of me, and Bahamut is going to be happy with me for bringing him 11 champions, even if I'm not really champion level myself, so as long as I keep from being evil my afterlife is secured, and with 11 other dragons, who are going to back me up as long as I keep moral, my chance of living long enough to become a powerful old dragon, are pretty good too.

Because I have no confidence in doing this on my own, but with a little bit of time, I'm sure I can find 11 heroically inclined characters, who are in bad enough situations, that as long as I don't become a vile person they will support me out of gratitude, while also doing all the hard work of helping save the multiverse, and by making us Metallic dragons, I get a lot of goodwill from Bahamut, which is a good protection against Tiamat plots.

1. Normally "be a Dragon" isn't free. You have to pay off that pesky LA before taking class levels.

2. These things would be a lot more interesting if not every second answer would be "I start as deagon!" or "I use immense cheese to become a Dragon."

It's also plenty annoying to be bothered for not picking Lizard.

Oh.

3. Being a one of a kind Dragon is likely to bit you guys. Just saying.

Nobody is going to care about a lvl 1 Human with a template.

Part MMMCCCVI: Passage for Two
Passage for Two

Eight Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

With a slight inclination of the head, careful not to let any of your surprise show, you reply: "Fairly said, I would not wish to betray the confidence of even my own hostages." Though you value your word above pride also, and somehow you doubt the ancient dragon feels much sympathy for his hostages as you had for Stannis Baratheon. "I will see to it that the emir knows your mind on this matter."

"My thanks," he rumbles, the words more than a formality. "Hopefully having the news carried by a neutral party will give him pause to consider more than anger and spite." To listen to him one might think the wyrm Galzerai the most peaceful of being in all the Boundless Sea, concerned only with making his foe understand the virtues of a swift resolution. His second meaning does not escape you however, a third party would already know of his daughter's impending use of wishcraft. How many more might soon learn likewise?

Once more you dip your head slightly as you had on greeting him, without taking your gaze from his for a moment: "Elder Cousin, this discussion has proven not only productive, but insightful. I would not wish to tarry more than necessary, but should you wish to engage in further dialogue, be it with fruitful exchanges in mind or merely slaking one's curiosity, know I too hold you in high esteem for the courtesy shown, and would in similar regard grant you passage to my realm at a time of your choosing. Further, I offer you the opportunity to open an embassy in Sorcerer's Deep."

It is only once you are back within the white walls of Pragnat that Lya turns to you and asks. "Do you think it's well... entirely wise to invite so many dragons? I still recall how much you worried about Relath, I know we are all more skilled than we were a year or two ago, but these dragons are not Relath."

You consider the matter a long moment. Am I being too cavalier about the danger of draconic pride or greed causing more harm than good in a realm still so young in magic? In the end you shake your head. "I do not think they would be inclined to make trouble, as Galzerai reminded me they are more likely to think in terms of decades and centuries than months and years, and a few centuries from now I think even so mighty a wyrm as that would be wise to tread lightly under the sun."

Satisfied with the answer Lya nods and begins looking around for a convenience to travel onward to Kelasi.

Ninth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

What you find in the end has the look of something that might have come from an ambitious bulabar's sketchbook, the ungainly offspring of a galley and a windmill that somehow propels itself forward considerably faster than you could swim, if not half as swift as you are in flight. So the two of you embark, just two more faces in the crowd, a not unfamiliar feeling for you, who have put on so many masks fleeting and enduring, but Lya had little reason to partake in such subterfuge of late.

"This is nice," she says leaning her head on your shoulder as the bench you are sitting on sways with the movement in the ship. "One of the best things about having another body working is that I do not have to feel guilty about taking some time to just sit and let my thoughts fly like those silverfish out there. "

"So what you're saying is that I should feel guilty since I don't have another body working?" you ask teasingly.

She rolls her eyes. "I'm not sure the world could handle two of you."

"Which part of me would make the cup run over do you think? My kingliness, my arcane power or maybe my striking good looks?" you continue with a smile.

"Your unique sense of humor," she replies dryly, then gives lie to your words by starting to giggle, drawing odd looks from a pair of elderly maridar coral prospectors.

The journey passes so swiftly you are almost surprised to hear the voice of the captain from the ship's speaking-horn above. You had arrived in Kelasi. Now you must decide how to introduce yourself to the emir in the best possible light, especially considering you bear news of his enemy.

How do you present yourself?

[] As a Dragon King from the Garden of the Elements

[] As a signatory of the Concordant of Stone and Sky

[] As a merchant prince looking for new opportunities

[] Write in

OOC: Another slow journey update to keep you guys from being bombarded with new locals, alongside some of Viserys and Lya just talking.

How do you resent yourself?
Very strongly.
We are so, so inefficient, after all...
:V

It was a nice mini-arc, DP, I liked how our expectations of Galzerai were gradually subverted, even if that meant no dragon-fighting.
Worry not, @Duesal, chances are, we'll have enough of dragons to fight this very month.

[X] Goldfish
And with that, I'm off for a nap, see y'all tomorrow.

You know we really should make a few clones so viseryis has time to relax. They if mindlinked could be crucial for our mental wellbeing.

[X] As a signatory and the one who brokered the Concordant of Stone and Sky, a ruler who has arranged alliances with realms across the Infinite Spheres and made trade connections far and wide, and an avowed foe of those who seek ruin upon all life and reason, who seeks to gain allies who themselves have pledged to fight back such as the Lords of Madness. That you are a dragon has only entered into the calculus of politics when it best suited you. That it happens to be most of the time is a coincidence. That time is not right now.

@Crake, should we mention that we are not only a signatory of the Concord, but also the individual who brokered it to begin with? That might carry a bit more weight.

[X] Crake
I was presuming there would be one person who would be like "But I don't want to bring any of these."
Oh, bringing people is great, it's more the fictional characters that cast too wide a net.
Presuming everyone consolidated build options, you could legitimately start the challenge as a group of nascent godlings ready to clean up Westeros and Essos, or become high profile movers and shakers in the Planes.
I kind forgot that, while they lost their innate abilities, they do get 20 levels.

Was super late, okay?
Edit: Thinking about it, a good hard cap to this challenge would be to make the Benefits actually only go up to 20 free levels, at the stated rate. So you can either buy up to 20 Level Adjustment worth of Racial/Template(s), yeah you can take more than one if you plan on just using up all 20 at once, or you could take a race with no level adjustment and guarantee yourself 20 levels in as little as seven years with virtually no input from yourself.
For the sake of your own choice being legal, I'm assuming we are using CR here?

So we have 20 points worth of CR to pick, with varying levels of freedom based on the start combination? And it can't be an outsider?
Making a lot of assumptions here...
I feel we throw this phrase at each other a lot :V

Yes, I'm assuming this will go into some variant of the usual ways. But it's in the Challenge section, so are those odds truly long?
Okay, so I'm going to pick something that isn't a Dragon or high-CR race, just for variety
*Proceeds to make a Killer Gnome*

I'm not surprised :V

"... And the one who brokered it" is right there. Unless that's an edit?

Also, Sublime Creature loves some HP, eh? That's probably going to be ~+20 HP per level for a Sorc main, and some Fast Healing 10-12.
