Sorry, I'm not trying to be confusing, it's just I really don't want to go over that in any detail since I do not think it would in any way be helpful to go into the issues that lead to azel leaving, we would just all be chewing over the same criticisms and arguing over it and I don't think that is why we come here.
I would say we're always here to hear you out and offer advice, but you're right, we're all here to have fun as we can manage it, and it often comes down to "least contentious of all options" when no one can agree to anything.

Luckily we've gotten really good at "least contentious" and then we bounce back and get what we want in the end later on.

There's a Community in this thread and with that comes both good and bad, I think it's safe to say we reap more good than bad and as long as we're doing that we have something to be proud of.

Does DP ever give Damage numbers? I just read the Mammon Slaughter and I'm really curious what everyone's damage was like.

Part MMMCLXVIII: Kindled Beacon
Kindled Beacon

Twentieth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC

To know, to see or to endure, three boons you might seek guided by the light of your burning soul, three aspects of fire the Herald bore, at least the three you might find when looking. Who knows what might be found in the dark, for good or for ill. Relath's blessing from the stillborn horror you had given onto the Merling King speaks of that much. But as the crown came to rest upon your head you have found gambles less appealing when you can afford instead the price of a sure and certain boon. "A Boon of Will I would ask for," you proclaim to the serpent.

With a thought you stretch out claw, tail and wing, fire burning in your throat. Gingerly you pick up the heart that seems the nearest ember to you now. Certain to go down easier than a tree, you think, smoke hissing from the edges of your jaw as you recall Dany's jest. You gaze upon the Great Serpent, unsurprised that it still seems to loom among the shadows of its temple, though he had not seemed larger than a dragon when you still bore a man''s shape. Yss nods. "Consssume it and I will lead you..."

Long has it been since fire could burn you yet this does, not in body, not in mind, but in soul, the price of clarity paid. Upon the endless sea of light there swims a serpent. The waves of light become bright banners waving, the ancient tongue of fire into human voices turned.

The beacon in the darkness that dispels fears and casts out phantasms, that shall be the light of your will upon those who would shelter beneath your wings.

Lost 5,000 XP

When the contours of the temple fade back into sight around you you are momentarily surprised to find yourself faintly glowing, as though your scales were steel just come out of the forge and even the gold of your cloak glistening and molten between them. Though the outer light soon fades you know that the inner radiance you have forged from the Herald's Heart will endure forevermore, to give heart to your legions on a thousand battlefields.

Gained Bonus Feat (Mythic) Beacon of Will: All allied beings who can see, hear or somehow physically perceive you and who accept your rule and aid gain the benefits of Indomitable Soul against non-Mythic effects. For instance, being present on a battlefield affects the whole army, however being in telepathic communion with someone from whom you are otherwise separated from does not confer the bonus.

"More?" Yss asks, the soft sibilant word filled with ancient hunger and what might almost be pride at a job well done. The nemesis devil you notice is already gone, swallowed whole in its prison of amber. Fleetingly you wonder what the bear spirit that dwells beneath Mormont Keep would think of its fallen rival's fate.

Taking human shape again, the better to move within the chamber without scraping the walls with your wings, you deliver the still living flesh-smiths of Gogossos onto the Serpent, those who had chosen to endure in flesh rather than join with the spirit of the place and thus ultimately with the Old Gods. "Take this flesh and these spirits and make from them a being to serve as a respiratory of their knowledge as you have done for the Shadow Walker who calls himself Tor, and if you might bequeath upon it the knowledge of any diabolic plots known to the devil you have just consumed that would be pleasing. I ask not for the lore of ages, only the intrigues of the present and any True Names of fiends it may have gathered also."

The vessel is still as stone for a moment, weighing the deal in mind. "Yesss..." Even as the agreement echoed through your mind the black and crimson head lunges, jaws yawning open. One after the other the flesh-smiths are consumed. As the Great Serpent draws back the waters of His pool ripple and something slithers out. Is it one serpent or many, you wonder. The coils seem to divide and join again even as it moves, eyes open like bubbles of crimson light upon its spiked cobra-like hood, shifting even as you watch to get a better look at the chamber of its birthing.

"We are Urak the Forgemaster," the name is not in the tongues of the serpent-kin, nor even in High Valyrian, but in the tongue of dragons where it might mean anything from well forged steel, to a cunningly crafted artifact, to flesh skillfully shaped.

"Hail and well met onto thee," you reply in that same tongue, wondering for how long the flesh-smith had kept the secret of the Dragon Tongue alive and with it the knowledge of Valyria's true birth. "I would ask of you leal service and in exchange offer protection and aid in any projects you might wish to enact, so long as they do not endanger the realm nor break its laws."

"Your Law binds tight... but it is fair... fair, a bargain," the echoing voice replies. "I would study more of this new world, where might such lore be found?"

What do you reply?

[] The public library, that is the most convenient repository of lore for general acclimatization Urak seeks

[] The keep, you can have books brought directly to the serpent, even in Sorcerer's Deep it's form might cause some fears

[] Gogossos, that is where the Forge is and you imagine Urak's fellow flesh-smiths would take at least some time to answer his questions

OOC: That result on the feat was 6 on a d6 for anyone wondering. Next up is Zathir and then we are done here.

Huh Will saves reroll to arbitrarily large amounts of people? Yes please.

Gonna start carrying high volume speakers next time the Legion engages in battle :V

More relevant to the vote.

Just being present openly in a battle will do, they don't litterally have to see and hear Viserys constantly.

Well that's not too hard. Concidering that we are a True Dragon with a size so big that a whole army could see us, both from the enemy's furthest scout to the safely tucked away Commanders.

Which leaves us to the Question at hand...

@DragonParadox, how tall is Viserys in True Dragon form? Standing upright and from leg to head (not head to tail). And also, please use the metric system. We're not barbarians.

Well he is huge sized and I would say at the upper end of the range so about 9 meters tall.

*blinks*

*ponders the realization*

...what sort of Size (Like Huge, Large, etc...) that entails the Creature have tens of meter or hundreds of meters in length? (Again, not head to tails, still standing upright)

And damn, Viserys is small as heck. I always thought that he was Ancalagon the Black's size.

Bruh you were really lowballing Ancalagon's size, not even the biggest baddest Targaryen Dragon gets anywhere close.

Anyways Iirc Viserys still counts as Young Adult Red Dragon so there is plenty of growing still to be done

Well colossal starts at roughly 20 meters (64 ft) and for creatures larger than that D&D does not have distinct size categories, anything bigger is still colossal.

Didn't we used to have a spell that raised our size category by one?
I think that would be a neat spell to use while flying over the legion about to go into battle.

Where did you get that idea? You do know Ancalagon's corpse flattened a mountain range when it fell down from the sky, right?

IDK man. I think it's because I always see Dragons as these titanic mass of muscle, Magic, and Willpower that have the size of a Mountain. That, and the fact that Viserys is the MC here. So I always assumed that he was bigger than that.

Then again, after seeing (for the 5th time, I swear it gets bigger every time...) how big (or small rather, compared to Ancalagon) Balerion is, I now realized how wrong I am.

Utterly, wrong.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

Wow, the Will boon is really neat, DP. It fits Viserys' character and theme perfectly, I think. And it's freaking good, too. Not so much for Viserys himself, but for all of the Imperium and its allies, and for Viserys' legend itself.

Urak might be the most terrifying snake I have ever seen. How big is he? I can't get a good impression of size from the picture. I hope he's not too big, else he'll have trouble moving around the libraries and Forges.

Pretty sure you mean Legendary Propotions. We don't know it, but we have used it in the past once or twice to grow even larger.

Can you please explain to me how making ourself bigger is going to benefit us anything aside from: a) being a Giant walking target for the enemy to fire at from afar and b) Intimidation factor when we need to cower those backward, ignorant, and zealous inbreeds they called 'Nobles' in Westeros.

We're out of that particular group though, our heritage is merely far supreme than the others.

P.S. I do not ask this because I do not believe you, but rather I'm curious at how D&D mechanics work with these sorts of details.

[X] The restricted library, where copies of all the forbidden and dangerous lore we have accumulated is kept in addition to copies of what may be found in the public library. Ask Lya's secondary body, or one of the Erinyes, to assist Urak in the library, as a serpent's form does not lend itself to the accoutrements meant for humanoids.

Sometimes, enough pants shitting terror via "Oh gods, it's a gigantic dragon!" can be exactly what's needed for a given situation.

Mechanically, however, going from Huge to Gargantuan-sized carries a number of benefits. Using Legendary Proportions increases Viserys' Strength by +6, his Constitution by +4, and his Natural Armor by +6. The best thing about these bonuses are that they are all Size bonuses, which stack with all of his other bonuses. Other spells that grant similar bonuses would normally use Enhancement bonuses, but those wouldn't don't stack with the other Enhancement bonuses he already benefits from.

The +6 Strength increases by damage of Viserys' Natural Attacks between 2 and 5 points, depending on which attack is used, which isn't all that helpful, but it also increases his Attack Bonus by +3, which can be helpful considering the high Armor Class of just about anything he would likely be fighting in melee as a True Dragon. It's nice, but not the most impressive bonus.

The +4 Constitution is the real star of the show, IMO. It would increase his Fortitude save bonus by +2 and give him +36 Hit Points, which could easily be the difference between life and death.

Add the +6 Natural Armor bonus, which Viserys' Scintillating Scales spell would make a Deflection bonus (it's one of our standard combat spells) and his AC rises to 58. There are very few beings who can beat an AC of 59 with any kind of reliability, with most of them requiring a lucky Nat 20 to do so.

All in all, it's a very good combat spell which we considered learning during past level ups. I think we chose the Magic Army spell instead. I don't regret that choice at all, since it's worked out very well for us, and now we can use Legendary Proportions via Miracle or Wild Arcana.

Whew, that ended up being more answer than you were probably looking for. :p

As a matter of fact, it is. And I enjoy every second reading it. This post has given me insight that, whilst I read upon some of the discussions, I have yet master the intricate numbers, various stats, and simple buffs that you have clearly written.

It's an eye opener. I will try to understand more of these in the future.

I'm sorry if I sound annoying, asking 'what is this?' or 'what does that mean?'.

No worries, dude. If you have questions, feel free to ask them. You wouldn't be the first one to learn some D&D stuff from this quest.
