OK, the vote seems pretty settled.

  • [X] Have Varys grab a hair off Hogart's head while under an effect of Invisibility - to ensure that the man won't disappear without a trace once the matter a of bazaar are dealt with - as he always may when Fey are concerned.
-[X] Hogart will be dealt with in accordance with our laws later. This is just a precaution against Fey hijinks.
-[X] Return to Hermetia's manse to scry for the Ankou and Fire Gremlin we saw in Hogart's memories. Depending on what we learn from observing them, we will determine how to proceed.
[X] Place Hogart under arrest, and store him somewhere... safe. Inform him that trying to flee would be incredibly foolish, as it is likely his fae "allies" will be coming to silence him. Permanently. Soul devoured by otherworldly horrors permanently. Afterward deal with him according to the law.
-[X] If he would like expect some leniency, now would be the time to cough up some useful information.

Doesn't he already have Entangling Exhalation on his breath?
I would suggest giving him Voice of the Dragon (social buff, Suggestion) or Heart of Earth (extra HP, DR). Maybe Greater Blink (good action economy, good defense - especially against ranged fire).

I'm also a fan of Ruin Delver's Fortune, to avoid dying to a failed save. He's otherwise very tough, after all!

I would have appreciated some explanation from Egoo or someone voting for him... But it's the weekend. Not much engagement here.

Side note, having raised the topic of Relath - does anyone know off the top of their heads about magic items/spells increasing Swim speed/maneuverability?

We are visiting the Glass City of Marid next turn, and chances are, we'll need much greater stats to feel safe than what Viserys' current baseline Swim is.

(I'll try looking for such tomorrow, but just bringing it up ahead of the fact seem a a good idea)

Wings of the Sea.

I like Fluid Form for general use, though the duration isn't anything to write home about it gives you a swim speed and is a decent combat buff.
So, a Swim speed of 90 is achievable with but these two then.
Nice.

Permanencing them with Diamond dust is going to be eeeeasy, and although dispelling is a problem...

Well, if I'm not wrong Viserys with buffs can cast these at ~24 CL.
Let em try dispell.

G'night all.
(Still gonna look for more)

This is the most basic one:

Swim – Spell – D&D Tools

Complete list of all D&D spells, rulebooks, feats, classes and more!

We need it, because it lasts a decent time and gives the base swimspeed you need to buff it at all.

Part MMMLXIV: The Hollow Man
The Hollow Man

Twenty-Sixth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Hogart is a pawn to be swept off the board later, you reason, yet you have dealt enough with fey trickery to worry that you may not find him after letting him out of sight, vanished into the depths of the Feywild perhaps where you would not lightly tread. You dislike loose ends and so you veil Varys and bid her to collect unseen a hair or three from the tailor's head to keep him from being misplaced before he can be dealt with according to the full rigor of the law. No doubt the Lyseni lawmen shall have a most fascinating conversation with him.

Varys uncoils herself from around your neck and rises in lazy circles, contemplating Hogart as a hawk might a particularly plump rabbit before descending with utmost care to snatch the asked for hair... yet her claws close only on empty air. Under your shocked gaze the figure of the merchant blurs, a glamour fallen to tatters to reveal the fire spirit from the memory you had glimpsed, eyes bright as white-hot embers, a sharp-toothed smile upon its stony lips.

Before you can even grasp the sheer impossibility of what you are seeing contrasted to the thoughts you had spied upon moments before the strange fey speaks a single word pulling at the threads of time, perhaps to fight, most likely to flee. The signet ring upon your right hand flares more in instinct than in thought. The spell dies stillborn, though the effort of it leaves you gasping in effort. What is this being? Some favored herald of Ymeri come to work dark mischief in the world of men?

Thoros does not seem to be troubled by such questions even for a moment, his sword drawn and slashing towards the foe in an arc of golden light as he calls out to R'hllor for strength. The fey moves with uncanny swiftness almost escaping the clinging threads of light, but the sword of dragonsteel strikes true and the will of a god will not be lightly undone. The spirit is bound if only for a moment as Rina stretches out her right hand to hurl a dozen knives of ice across the room, tearing through fabric and splintering wood while from her left flows a cold light blindingly bright. The enemy reels in pain, but there is no blood anywhere from the blows of steel and spell-forged ice.

Had it truly been harmed, you wonder, or was it merely playing a game as it did the role of Hogart for some purpose you cannot yet guess at, your mind racing even as you speak your next spell, to bind or to slay.

What do you do?

OOC: Really short this time but it's the nature of unexpected combat. Whatever this is it lied to Brain Spider, not resisted the spell but fed Viserys the fabrication that it was Hogart. It's not playing by the usual rules somehow.

Lets get it into the forge if we can.

Well then.
That's not the way I expected my paranoia to pay off, but I'll take it!

Also oof, fucking bruh, with things feeding misinormation to Brainspider, no matter how rare of a skill that is, I'm having fewer and fewer options to be calm with! :o

Its not paranoia if they are out to get us!

We should somehow break any narrative it tries to play along now.

[X] Goldfish

I'd say, even a Miracle is not off the table - Fey hate Divine magic enough that it might just unspin it's threads.

Isn't it possible to lie to a brain spider if you roll high enough on Bluff?
AFAIK the bluff skill gets pretty crazy later on, but I can't seem to find a link for its epic uses right now.

This could just be a Fey with high Bluff and good buffs. Or it could have an item that lets it fool these kind of spells : there was one for sale in the slums of Braavos, after all.

Or maybe it has a crazy PrC or is a Simulacrum or something. Let's just stick it in an Amber Sacrophagus and call it a day.
