Part MMMXLVIII: A Dance of Daggers
A Dance of Daggers

Twenty-Fifth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

There is no time deal in veils and intrigues while the battle rages all around you, your friends and allies in mortal peril. You shift to half-human form and stride across the broken glass already drawing a Valyrian Steel dagger held hilt first as you approach the slave. "Do not resist," you call as Xor floats into the room behind you, all five of his eyes fixed upon the 'slave'. Siduri you do not see, though from the rustle of silk behind you the sorceress too has entered the shattered room.

"Be Bound," you call, words like thunder in the air, no subtle spell this but it will be made manifest upon the incandescent edge where mortal magic meets the power of a demiurge. Rage burns like hot embers behind her eyes.

A flash that does not illuminate but devours light and color both passes between you. Where there had once been one face now there are three, no less beautiful but twisted into a mask of ageless disdain. "We have stood against powers far mightier than you, Idol of Flame," they proclaim as one, dagger, sword, and staff whirling in three pairs of tangled limbs. A Ruin Dancer stands before you all, Upasunda, in the tongue of Baator from which they hail, lesser by far would you count her than the Asurendra you had seen before... save that she shows no fear at her ruse being unveiled.

The curved dagger flies in a deadly arc over your head to strike at Xor even as the folds of your cloak narrowly deflect the sword, but not the whirling bladed staff that draws blood, the brief sting of poison in the wound evaporating to nothing under the power of the crown, even as the magics of the earth bound within your scales close the wound to nothing.

Xor loses 24 Temporary Hit points

Viserys loses 17 Temporary Hit Points

"You will die, all mortal flesh shall ro..." the leftmost head begins to proclaim just a chains spring up from the ground at Dany's command to bind its limbs and send it sprawling. A ray of pale light briefly connects one of Xor's eyes to the creature's poisoned gaze, leaving it clouded, emptied of some of its malignant will though none of its rage. In truth it grows all the brighter as Siduri's spell strips arcane wards from her one after another.

Seeing your chance you toss the focus dagger from one hand to the other to draw Dark Sister for a sweeping overhead blow that was never meant to land, and when that blow is twisted aside you intone the spell once more and this time there is no ward between the dagger's pommel and the sprawling Fiend. This time she is bound, a look of what might have been betrayal in her eyes. Like a light wind against your scales you feel the echo of a stillborn contingency in the air.

Captured Upasunda Asura

"Come on!" you call, pushing aside the divan that had been tossed aside during the brief but vicious fight. "We still need to catch her master!"

Before you had taken a single step, however, the dagger and the Fiend bound within are almost ripped from your grip by some unseen force. The sixfold horror you had seen before through the mirror's shine stands in the door of the cabin, its burning gaze remote, as though turned towards some other sighs, some other world.

One hand is raised in dreadful mockery of divine benediction as it speaks a word so foul as to corrupt even the tainted air of Fallen Valyria. Siduri flinches for a moment, hands raised to her ears, but then she remembers what all of you had already known and trusted from the start. Dany's spell wards you.

Spells of death and ruin, of fire that can burn even those born of Hell's embrace are already upon your lips, but the creature speaks a handful more words, not magic but a warning: "Strike me down and you shall draw the eye of He whom you most fear, little idol."

What do you do?

OOC: Yes, that was quickened telekinesis in place of quickened blade barrier, because I rebuilt the Fiends a little (and in the case of the lesser one buffed it too). Which is not to say that your preparations did help a great deal, of course. The Spellbane and Spell-Immunity went a long way to locking down your enemies.

PFFFT-
Asmodeus?
We are already at war, and going to do no-holds-barred campaign at rooting out his influence in Slavers Bay.

Fifteenth?
We knew what we were getting into when going to Valyria.

[X] Goldfish
fuck him up.

Generally speaking Upasunda's would make decent minions. And she felt betrayed by her current master, for her easy defeat.

I think we should try recruiting this one later.
We don't have an Asura in our collection yet.

Edit: She could teach the new and improved Seeker how to murderblend with multiple weapons properly!

Problem is, she's almost guaranteed to be Asmodeus', and we can safely grab only Noodle's people.
Like, we aren't going to even try to turn those Erynies we learned the True Names of - let alone any other devil in his direct service.

But they are not Baatezu, and thus outside the Pact Primeval?

Asura are not Devils.

She might be in his service, or not, but she is certainly not bound to him in any meaningful metaphysical way. No clause in the First Pact for the deniers of divinity.
The most likely candidate for her immediate master is standing in front of us right now.

Made a few edits to the chapter, @DragonParadox.

Whew, glad to see I wasn't wrong to take precautions against Blasphemy and Contingency.

@DragonParadox, did we ever get a character sheet for Siduri? I cannot recall now and I'm trying to come up with what spells she should have available. Greater Dispel Magic was a safe assumption, but there are a lot of other options after that. Wasn't she a specialist Wizard of some kind?

Eh, we already acted against Asmodeus in Gogossos. What's once more? :p
He'll see us every time we see him in the Realm of Balance.

"Sorry, could you be a little more precise?"

"'Cuz I got a whole multiverse worth of them. There's this Fey King I'm about to rule over (the green one not the black), a Rakshasha King that almost ripped my soul, the Night King after I stole his minion and blow up a mountain inside his lair, Sseth hates me, what else... Oh! There's also Noodle. Say hi, Noodle."

"Sorry, could you be a little more precise?"
Pick any of the known enemy actors?

Tiamat,
Fifteenth,
Bloodstone Emperor,
any of the Archdevils (except Noodle, he's harmless),
Asmodeus,
Void (and subsequently Others),
Sultan of Brass,
Ymeri,
The Pale Lady (one of four (?) Daemonic Deity-figures),
the Eldritch thing in Essaria,
Illithid Overmind,
that Archdemon we fucked over in Mantarys,
Sseth,
Lolth,
Harpy Queen...

We have plenty to choose from :V
EDIT: Ripper'ed

Wild Arcana - Maw of Chaos

This spell creates a rip in reality that plunges into the interspatial vortices that constantly churn with the raw destructive chaos of the Abyss. Each round at the beginning of your turn, the maw of chaos attempts a drag combat maneuver check against every creature within 40 feet, using your caster level plus your primary spellcasting ability modifier in place of a CMB. If a creature is dragged into a maw of chaos, the area erupts in a surge of chaotic energy and the creature takes 1d6 points of damage per caster level. Only one such eruption can occur per round.

Creatures dragged adjacent to the maw of chaos become entangled by the frayed strands of reality being torn apart at the rim of the maw of chaos. Escape requires a successful Escape Artist check or grapple check against a DC equal to 10 plus the spell's save DC. Every creature without the chaotic subtype that ends its turn adjacent to a maw of chaos takes 2 points of damage to each ability score. Creatures with the lawful subtype take double this amount of damage; creatures with the chaotic subtype take no damage.

Calling, summoning, and teleportation effects used within 30 feet of the maw of chaos or that cause a creature to appear within 30 feet of a maw of chaos are redirected, causing the creature to arrive adjacent to the maw of chaos rather than at its intended destination. Unattended objects (including dead bodies) adjacent to the maw of chaos are drawn into it and affected as by disintegrate at the beginning of the caster's next turn.

Edit:

And drop Polar Midnight on top, if they are grappled then they are still for one turn and get frozen solid.

Any creature that doesn't move on its turn becomes encased in a sheath of ice equivalent to wall of ice, is helpless, and cannot breathe.
