@TalonofAnathrax MFW, given rolls, the most formidable enemy in the entire recommended Quest is a Fashion Statement, and the sense of vicarious triumph felt when it is finally overcome. 😌

More satisfying than arranging Jon Arryn's death, only slightly less euphoric than blackmailing House Tyrell in a Braavosi vault surrounded by our own piles of money.

You should write a "top 10 Viserys/Lya/Daenerys achievements lists" in that same style.
We'd be here all day re-tiering that list trying to hedge out only slightly less worthy incidences of us being fucking balls-to-the-wall in this quest. We're the longest running quest with the highest word count and some of our plans were inspired. Others were just inspired in how dumb they were. Hell I tried to make a convincing argument about the chivalric ideal to a motherfucking Dayne of all people.

And that's just one of the dumbass things I've been involved with that somehow worked out in the end.

Wouldn't that be fun though?
You're talking about that discussion like it would be a bad thing.

When is it planned to tell Blood Raven to no longer sabotage Cersei's attempts to kill Robert?

His death, the knowledge that none of Cersei's children are Robert's and that his two acknowledged bastards are either with us (Mia Stone) or with Stannis (Edric Storm).
Which really leaves the Kingdom without an eligible Heir besides, well, Viserys.
That should make it hard for them to work together.
Though it'll also cause Chaos.

It's mostly a formality, by the acknowledgement of the Lords loyal to Robert, by rights, Stannis would be the legal heir, seeing as how Renly or rather "Renly" has abdicated not only his position as Lord of Storm's End, eroding any and all legitimacy he might have as a candidate, but Stannis is the only other Baratheon with undisputed claim to the Throne. These Lords in question do not recognize Viserys' claim, because Robert's was that of a Warlord, planting a new Dynasty over the old by right of conquest, with the sop that he is somewhat related to House Targaryen soothing the worst of bruised egos and inflamed passions about the legality of the matter.

Those loyal to Tywin or at least politically aligned with his interests would, as in canon, completely disregard such slanderous lies, and move to protect Joffrey's rights.

Everyone else would wait to see how it played out, or in the case of our loyalists, wait for us to make a move.

Ironically, Stannis would not even acknowledge people trying to sway him to contest the throne that is "his by right". He recognizes us as his sworn liege... which is just doubly hilarious considering everything else mentioned.

The greatest effect I see is on Lord Stark. That guy is loyal to Robert as his friend.
If he gets to know that
1) Cersei assassinated Robert
2) None of Cersei's children are Robert's
It'll have quite an effect on his actions.
It'd certainly drive him away from the Lannisters.

No, it would be, it's just that my head is spinning just trying to think of all the shit we've done. I'd have to re-read the quest. Again.
I fail to see the problem here.

More seriously, you could toss out 10 or 15, and I'm sure we'd all be willing to chip in and squabble over the list.

My personal favorite is obviously blowing up that mountain after claiming we weren't sent by the Gods, but here are a few others I liked a lot :
  • For Daenerys, threatening to kill the Sealord. And of course her fight against the Avatar of Tiamat when the attacked the Golden Company. That had nice banter, cinematic action, and was a nicely climactic event.
  • Monster-hunting in Sororythos. We did it so casually ;)
  • Our fight against Relath, and the immediate buildup to it.
  • Stealing the Shadow Tower.
  • Killing Mammon, and then skinning him and wearing him like a cloak.
  • Using Disguise to infiltrate a Faceless Men operation.
  • Stealing an entire inn, on a whim.
  • Crossing the Wall at one point on day 1 without any guards or provisions, and then crossing back halfway across the continent on day 2

Conquering the Seven Kingdoms by force of arms was totally legitimate, it's how our ancestors did it after all, it's just that by that same token, us reconquering it will be equally legitimate.

If it was good enough for Aegon the Firsts claim, then it's good enough for Roberts claim, and good enough for our claim.

  • [X] Seek out F!Renly and invite him to chat over a nice meal
-[X] Ask how he's been, make sure he hasn't been too roughed up by his general situation
-[X] Get his take on the state of the Stormlands and of Westeros in general
-[X] Ask if he's learned any magic since you last saw him, in general get a basic idea of his level and class and any special abilities
--[X] Also see what gear he's already got, and what gear his Fey Creature Horse has
-[X] Make arrangements to see him equipped and trained over the next few months. You support his expedition, but he's not going unprepared.
--[X] As part of this, point him in different places where he can recruit companions for the journey (the Scholarum for a mage, the Circle of Battle for warriors and rogues, the Orphne Court for a fey guide, etc).
---[X] For good measure, take F!Renly directly to the Orphne Court, introduce him to the former Orphne King, and help him bargain for a Fey guide. It's better if they know each other and train together before setting off.
-[X] For training, F!Renly will have special access to the Scholarum libraries to learn of the Feywild

Part MMMXXXIX: Liar's Honor
Liar's Honor

Twenty-Third Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

The library is quiet as ever, hardly surprising given that the eyes of Erinyes are upon these halls, though few of those who frequent it know their true nature. Yet even among the hushed whispers some news is hard to disguise. Renly Baratheon had come to Sorcerer's Deep to pledge himself to the Dragon's banner, they say and wonder if it was honor, folly, or both that had him renounce his seat beforehand, for surely the Lord of the Stormlands would have received a better welcome than as an exile with only his lance and horse to offer.

As is often the case when dealing with the Fey, not one of those assumptions is true. The man who had come to the Deep is not Renly Baratheon in truth, though he has cared for the man's duties better by far. The Stormlands are yours, though Stannis Baratheon now holds them, and you are most interested in what your visitor has to offer once his self-appointed quest to find the lost boy is done, one way or another.

Even without following the trail of curious onlookers the young man would not be hard to find. A Fey seeking feylore in the works of mortals, the bite of irony is painfully sharp.

"Hail, Ser Renly," you call out softly among the dusty rafters.

A dark-haired head twitches in surprise at the name, bright blue-green eyes widen in surprise at the sight of you. "I fear that neither the name nor title fits me, Your Grace," he answers even as he bows in greeting with practiced grace.

"I would not be so quick to cast it aside either," you reply with a smile. "I for one share my name with two other kings long dead. Alas that we shall never have a chance to argue over who deserves it more, and even Aegon the Conqueror shares his name with one of Walder Frey's bastards, a more bizarre pairing one could scarce find."

Seemingly in spite of himself the man laughs, the melancholy in his eyes drawing back ever so slightly. "Fair point, Your Grace, but..."

"As for the title," you cut him off, voice growing serious. "You have done a great knightly deed, for all it was by necessity done in secret. Come, I would be honored if you would join me and my sister for lunch, that we might discuss matters privately. The books shall wait, I promise you, and so will the collections of the Scholarum."

"Of course, Your Grace," he rises at once to meet you. Beneath almost instinctive courtesy and lingering confusion you are glad to hear a note of genuine curiosity, perhaps even anticipation.

***

Ser Renly's company is charming in every sense, for truly a whisper of Fey enchantment is woven into his every word, inseparable as one's shadow, but beyond all the sorcery he is simply good company in spite of the veil of darkness that lies over him. He complements the city for its beauty and liveliness both, the local wines for their unique bouquet and even the Godswoods, which where so many born to Westeros south of the Neck find eerie he names serene. "I must admit 'twas strange to see the Golden Hearth here, stranger still to see it so veiled in Fey enchantment, but it was hopeful also. How many times has Robert bid me accompany him there..." he trails off, the thread of memory snarling in cruel truths.

"Speaking of the Stormlands, I would be very interested in your thoughts regarding the position of the Houses there as of your parting, Ser," you interject, as much to distract him as aught else.

"Not as settled as I might have wished to leave them I'm afraid, Your Grace," he sighs. "Much as I attempted to make the lords understand that Stannis would be the better lord as much as he is the true one, the deception at the heart of it all made things difficult to explain. Many of the those I was close to saw my choice to leave as a betrayal, or worse still as some plot of Stannis' and I could not find the words to dispel their fears. I was almost tempted to..."

"Yes?" Dany prompts gently.

"I was tempted to show them some of the magic I found within myself, to claim that for the reason I could no longer rule, but that would only deepen the pit of lies, and it would leave the true Renly Baratheon in a poor position when I finally recover him," the Changeling continues.

Your sister sniffs delicately "Well, maybe he deserves to be in a poor position, Ser, given that he abandoned his duty and his kin to wander who knows were."

"He was only a boy," the knight excuses him awkwardly.

And you are the man he should have been, you think but do not say aloud, knowing he would feel compelled to keep defending his counterpart's folly. Instead you merely note: "You handled an extraordinarily difficult situation not only with honor but with skill, Ser. I have every confidence that you will find him, but I ask that you do not try to do so alone or unprepared. The Feywild is a perilous place indeed."

Silver clinks against porcelain as his hand trembles ever so slightly: "I do not wish to presume upon your kindness, Your Grace. It is enough that you let me study here in the Deep to ready myself for the journey ahead."

"It is hardly presumption to take aid when offered, Ser. Your task is honorable as it is brave..." If likely pointless since the boy has already proven himself unfit to rule as he is unwilling, you refrain from adding. "And I would not see it fail for lack of aid I can so readily provide." you reply firmly. "Now, what is this sorcery you can wield?"

Courteous as ever, the knight refrains from pressing the matter and instead answers your questions. The powers he can call upon are glamours and illusions for the most part, nor are they particularly broad in kind, though one of them is surprising for the cunning and secretive Fey, though not perhaps for the man before you. He can share the sort of instinctive understanding of silent signals that usually takes years to develop with all who stand near him. Truth be told you are not even sure it's magic, for nothing you can do is able to dispel it, but it is certainly no natural skill.

Spell-Like Abilities (Caster Level 9): (3/Day) Dancing Lights, (1/Day) Faerie Fire, Entangle, Glitterdust, Deep Slumber, Major image, Confusion

Evasion (Ex): Can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. Upon making a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, instead take no damage. Evasion can be used only if wearing light armor or no armor.

Silvered Tongue (Ex): A number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier, you can roll 2d20 for a Perform check and take the better result. (6/Day)

Challenge (Ex): Whenever an order of the blue rose cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +3 morale bonus on attack rolls made against the target of his challenge, if the target is an intelligent creature to whom the cavalier offered the chance to surrender (by taking a standard action to offer terms).

Flat of the Blade (Ex): The cavalier of the order of the blue rose gains the ability to moderate his attacks in order to take an enemy alive. He no longer takes a –4 penalty when attacking with a lethal weapon to deal nonlethal damage. When dealing nonlethal damage, the cavalier receives a +2 bonus on damage rolls. When the cavalier makes use of this ability, he must attempt to subdue his target without killing it; dealing lethal damage after using this ability, or allowing his allies to kill the target, is considered a violation of his edicts.

Cavalier's Charge (Ex): A cavalier learns to make more accurate charge attacks while mounted. The cavalier receives a +4 bonus on melee attack rolls on a charge while mounted (instead of the normal +2). In addition, the cavalier does not suffer any penalty to his AC after making a charge attack while mounted.

Symbol of Inspiration (Ex): The gallant's personal crest becomes an inspirational symbol of his chivalrous ideals. As long as he displays his crest on his tabard, banner, or similar item, allies within 60 feet who can see him gain a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against charm, compulsion, and fear effects, and a +2 bonus on damage rolls to deal nonlethal damage.

Inner Peace (Ex): The cavalier has learned that while not all things in the world will go as he wishes, he must remain calm and centered. As an immediate action, the cavalier may ignore an amount of damage from a single source (one attack, spell, or effect) equal to his cavalier level plus his Charisma modifier. He can only ignore hit point damage in this fashion. (1/Day)

Greater Tactician (Ex): The cavalier receives an additional teamwork feat as a bonus feat. He must meet the prerequisites for this feat. The cavalier can grant this feat to his allies using the tactician ability. Using the tactician ability is a swift action (Bonded Mind)

Sociable (Ex): As a move action, grant all friendly creatures within 30 feet who can see or hear you (including yourself ) a +2 bonus on Diplomacy checks for a number of rounds equal to your Charisma modifier (6 rounds)

----

Anklets of Rapid Translocation:
  1. Benefit from a +30ft Enhancement bonus to ground movement speed.
  2. 2/Day Instantly teleport up to 10 feet to an unoccupied destination within line of sight and line of effect. The wearer can teleport with objects, up to their maximum load, but cannot bring other creatures.
Boneward Belt: +2 Constitution, +5 Competence bonus to Ride skill checks

Challenging Mithral Shield (+1): AC Bonus: +3, ACP: 0, Weight: 7.5 pounds
  • By spending one use of you Challenge class feature as an Immediate Action, you can apply your Charisma bonus to your Shield bonus to AC against the target of your Challenge for 1 minute.
Earring of Arcane Acuity: +2 Charisma, +2 Wisdom, +1 Intelligence, +5 Competence bonus to Diplomacy skill checks
  • 3 Charges/Day: 1 Charge(Darkvision 60 ft., 1 hour), 2 Charges (See Invisibility, 10 minutes), 3 Charges (True Seeing, 1 minute)
Greater Ribbon of Disguise: Alter Self, Magic Aura, Undetectable Alignment (At Will)

Greater Ring of Protection from Evil:
  • 3 Charges/Day: 1 Charge (12 Temporary Hit Points), 2 Charges (18 Temporary Hit Points), 3 Charges (24 Temporary Hit Points), Duration: 10 minutes
Handy Haversack: This backpack is of high quality but appears otherwise normal.
  1. It has two side pouches, each of which appears large enough to hold about a quart of material. In fact, each is like a Bag of Holding and can actually hold material of as much as 2 cubic feet in volume or 20 pounds in weight. The large central portion of the pack can contain up to 8 cubic feet or 80 pounds of material. Even when so filled, the backpack always weighs only 5 pounds.
  2. While such storage is useful enough, the pack has an even greater power. When the wearer reaches into it for a specific item, that item is always on top. Thus, no digging around and fumbling is ever necessary to find what a haversack contains. Retrieving any specific item from a haversack is a Move Action, but it does not provoke the Attacks of Opportunity that retrieving a stored item usually does.
Launcher:
  • Somewhat resembling a crossbow where the bow mechanism has been replaced by a two foot long and two inch diameter hollow steel tube, this device allows its wielder to shoot items no larger than Tiny-size or weighing more than 10 pounds using the Launch Item spell up to 440 feet. Where applicable, the wielder must make a Ranged Attack roll to strike a target.

10x Thunderstone
20x Vermin Repellent

Equipped Magic Items: Anklets of Rapid Translocation, Bead of Newt Prevention, Boneward Belt (+2 CON), Challenging Heavy Mithral Shield (+1), Cloak of Resistance (+3), Cold Iron Longsword (+1), Earring of Arcane Acuity (+2 CHA, +2 WIS, +1 INT), Gloves of Zephyr's Grace (+2 DEX, +2 STR), Greater Ribbon of Disguise, Greater Ring of Protection from Evil, Handy Haversack, Launcher, Masterwork Composite Duskwood Longbow (+3 STR bonus), Periapt of Health, Quivers (x2; 20 Cold Iron-tipped arrows & 20 Steel-tipped arrows), Reinforced & Segmented Mithral Breastplate (+1), Ring of Self-Sufficiency, Valyrian Steel Lance (+2), Valyrian Steel Longsword (+2)

Mount's Equipped Magic Items: Horseshoes of Speed (+30ft Enhancement bonus to ground movement), Muleback Cord [Slotless](+8 STR for purpose of Carrying Capacity), Reinforced Mithral Chain Barding (+1)

Of other Fey gifts he has but two; a finely woven cloak of shifting green like shadows in the summer woods that sharpens body and mind, and a clasp forged in the likeness of a monkshood flower that wards off all illness, be it common or mundane. No arms and armor had he been given, you suspect because he was never expected to win on the field of war. Plans you are all too happy to set awry... With Valyrian Steel you arm him and enchantments of swiftness you add to Fae grace, spells to see through all illusion as well as a ribbon to wear another face if he should please.

  1. Anklets of Rapid Translocation
  2. Bead of Newt Prevention
  3. Boneward Belt (+2 CON)
  4. Challenging Heavy Mithral Shield (+1)
  5. Cold Iron Longsword (+1)
  6. Earring of Arcane Acuity (+2 CHA, +2 WIS, +1 INT)

  8. Greater Ribbon of Disguise
  9. Greater Ring of Protection from Evil

  12. Quivers (x2; 20 Cold Iron-tipped arrows & 20 Steel-tipped arrows)
  13. Reinforced & Segmented Mithral Breastplate (+1)
  14. Ring of Self-Sufficiency
  15. Valyrian Steel Lance (+2)
  16. Valyrian Steel Longsword (+2)

It is upon this last that that the knight's eyes fall with an odd mix of longing and wariness. "It would be dangerous to wear that, would it not?" he asks hesitantly. "If any should see through it then my presence here veiled might be taken for some plot."

"One more whisper among the din of rumors, you mean?" You offer him an honest smile. "Do not trouble yourself for it, Ser. There are others with more cause to hide behind glamours here in the Deep."

"Can a twice told lie make a truth, I wonder?" He shakes his head. "Thank you for all you have done for me, Your Grace, though I feel mere words are a poor way to express my gratitude that is all I may offer until my task is done."

So he understands you wish for his service... You nod in understanding and raise your wine cup in toast to his success.

What do you do next?

OOC: The Changeling rolled ludicrously well for stats, but I refrained from min-maxing him since he is, after all, supposed to mirror Renly with some fey improvements like the ridiculous diplomacy score. Anyway, break point here to give you guys a chance to make suggestions plans knowing his character sheet.

One of them is surprising for the cunning and secretive fey, though perhaps not for the man before you. He can share the sort of instinctive understanding of silent signals that usually takes years to develop with all who stand near him. Truth be told, you are not even sure it's magic for nothing you can do is able to dispel it, but it is certainly no natural skill.

Dancing Lights (3/Day)
Faerie Fire, Entangle, Glitterdust, Deep Slumber, Major image, Confusion, (1/Day)

(5/Day)

Sociable (Ex): As a move action, grant all friendly creatures within 30 feet who can see or hear you (including yourself ) a +2 bonus on Diplomacy checks for a number of rounds equal to your Charisma modifier (5 rounds)

Equipped Magic Items: Cloak of resistance +3, Periapt of Health

Of other fey gifts, he has but two, a finely woven cloak of shifting green like shadows in the summer woods that sharpens body and mind and a clasp forged in the likeness of a monkswood flower that wards off all illness, be it common or mundane. No arms and armor had he been given, you suspect, because he was never expected to win on the field of war. Plans you are all too happy to set awry... With dragonsteel you arm him and enchantments of swiftness you add to fae grace, spells to see through all illusion as well as a ribbon to wear another face if he should please.

  1. Valyrian Steel Longsword
  2. Anklets of Translocation
  3. Boneward Belt (+2 Constitution)
  4. Earring of Arcane Acuity
  5. Gloves of Zephyr's Grace (+2 Dexterity)
  6. Greater Ribbon of Disguise
  7. Handy Haversack
  8. Ring of Protection from Evil
  9. Ring of Sustenance

It is upon this last that that the knight's eyes fall with an odd mix of longing and wariness. "It would be dangerous to wear that would it not?" he asks hesitantly. "If any should see through it then my presence here veiled might be taken for some plot."

"One more whisper among the din of rumors you mean?" you offer him an honest smile. "Do not trouble yourself for it, Ser. There are others with more cause to hide hidden behind glamors here in the Deep."

"Can twice a lie make a truth, I wonder?" He shakes his head. "Thank you for all you have done for me, Your Grace. Although I feel mere words are a poor way to express my gratitude, that is all I may offer until my task is done."

So he understands you wish for his service... You nod in understanding and raise your wine cup in toast to his success.

What do you do next?

OOC: The Changeling rolled ludicrously well for stats, but I refrained from min-maxing him since he is after all supposed to mirror Renly with some fey improvements like the ridiculous diplomacy score. Anyway break point here to give you guys a chance to make sugestions plans knowing his character sheet. Not yet edited.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

EDIT: Gimme a few minutes and I'll update his character sheet with his new gear.
