  • [X] Send them all back to Sorcerer's Deep to rest and recover. They've done very well. Now they should take the time to enjoy themselves and live the lives they came so close to losing.
-[X] Mention to Ting that there is a new denizen of Sorcerer's Deep he might wish to meet, one with a unique perspective likely to appreciate his philosophies and learning on the nature of life and existence. <Viserys can do this much more subtly than I can word here, but the end goal is for Ting to meet with and mentor the Adamantine Golem with a hope toward it learning just one level of Unchained Monk or gaining the Monk Creature template.>
-[X] Next month, after they've all had a couple weeks to rest and recuperate, we will send the Misfits and Thoros to clear out Hagswood, providing them additional support in form of Lesser and Greater construct Ravens, along with one or two Erinyes should they prove needed.
-[X] Ask Melisande to assist Lya with parsing through Fey lore... And the prized book of Lord of Light, one you had yet to fully understand the secrets of, even after so long.
--[X] Help Lya to get 3rd Tier of understanding Light of Creation, and a couple of points to her Research Action.

Part MMCMLXXXIV: By Strange Paths
By Strange Paths

Sixteenth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Reasoning that Ser Denys and company have had enough of sleeping with one eye open, you ask of them no more than returning to the Deep where they might see to their own affairs. Of Ting alone you ask that he make some time to speak to the adamantine golem you had invested with will and reason, which the monk accepts with surprising serenity given the strangeness of the request.

Thoros is in the same position you imagine... but Melisandre of Asshai presents a different conundrum. "What do you know of Fey and their works, my lady?"

"More than most I would wager, though I have seen less of them than other kindreds of spirit," she replies at once, and you see no reason to doubt it. Her business had been with radiant Celestials, Fiends, and the shadows that lay between.

"I am certain you will be of considerable use regardless, given what else Lya has chosen to set her sights upon this month," you say, going on to explain Benerro's text.

"The Light of Creation," she muses, one finger moving though crimson locks. "Not a secret lightly mastered by one who does not serve the Lord of Light."

You do not of course point out that is the very reason you wish her aid, too obvious by far. Instead you merely motion to the chamber, the keep freed of all its specters. "Surely all those who would stand in the light and against the darkness are pleasing to R'hllor whether they call to him in battle or not."

The silence lingers a full ten heartbeats. "Each in their own way, but that way may not be of understanding the holy text," she replies at last.

Weighing the words you realize she is not refusing to attempt it to the best of her abilities, but merely wishes to make clear that failure is still a possibility.

To that you only nod in understanding. Impatient as you can be at times you do not expect perfection at every turn. "Come then, we must depart."

Speaking of imperfect solutions, a soft knock can be heard at the door as though summoned by talk of leaving. The dark-haired boy who slips in with a mumbled 'm'lord' looks like precisely what he is, a goatherd chaffing in fine hose and a wine-red doublet courtesy of Lady Whent's generosity. While his gaze is certainly not unshadowed by his brief touch of death, he seems more troubled to be leaving behind the only life he has ever known, but still the hopes of grander, stranger fates drives him on.

Gogossos does not lack for strangeness of its own of course once you return. It takes all of your strength even in the largest of your Half-Dragon forms to lift the enormous stone plug thirty feet across and thirty feet hugh that forms 'the slaves' door'. Roots snaps and soil sifts down... Whatever arcane mechanism that had once opened and closed it likely died with the city, though that is no reason to assume there are no further surprises down the long dark tunnel.

Vee sends four dream-spun scouts to explore in your place. Alas they are stymied all too soon. "There's a dead magic tear two-hundred feet down, and the walls won't let 'em shift through them."

"Wards and a dead magic area so close," Lya smiles happily. You can almost see the wheels spinning behind her eyes. "Fascinating..."

While you agree in principle, it also leaves you unable to scout as you had preferred.

OOC: This still feels a little disjointed, but not as badly as if I'd included in with the knighting.

The Adamantine Golem learning how to be a monk will be all kinds of amazing.

@Goldfish, any ideas for what kind of gear we can give him?
Wisdom, Dexterity, and Strength boosters, an Amulet of Mighty Fists, a PfE ring, a Cloak of the Hedge Wizard(Conjuration), a pair of Boots of Rapid Translocation, and a Visor of See Invisibility.

Later, a Handy Haversack appropriately scaled for a Huge-sized individual (likely involving something closer to a Portable Hole enchantment) and a Ring of Mind Blank would be good, too.

Made a few edits to the chapter, DP.

I don't think it's disjointed, though mention of Viserys taking a short nap on the magic bedroom wouldn't be amiss. He did just spend several high level spells hopping across the planet.

A +15 item for the perception skill would be good, so nobody can easily bypass it with stealth. Also a slotless +2 type amulet of mighty fists for phase-locking, to ensure that nobody can teleport away from it, so it can finish fiends and others once it gets close. Its first two (epic) feats should be Epic Feats :: d20srd.org and Epic Feats :: d20srd.org

I'm tempted to send a Lesser False Raven with a Sunrod to see what it can learn past the AMF zone.

Assume he did so, it's too late to edit properly

@DragonParadox, how wide is the tunnel, and what is the layout? Was it a straight shaft down?

Thirty feet in diameter. It slopes at a 45 Degree angle.

Preliminary plan. Is the part at the end with Vee crazy?

[X] Plan Justified Paranoia
-[X] Clip off the active end of a Sunrod and give it to a Lesser False Raven, along with a small stone affected by a Light cantrip.
--[X] The Raven's instructions will be to first fly down the tunnel and determine exactly how much of the shaft is covered by the Antimagic Field based on when the Light cantrip stops functioning and when it resumes. After it reports back with that information, it will be tasked with further exploring the tunnel beyond the Antimagic Field, though with instructions to return immediately at the first sign of danger.
--[X] While the Raven Construct explores, Vee will use her Hallucinogenic Smoke and Augury spells to determine the likelihood that we safely enter the Forge.
-[X] If the AMF effect extends further than the Raven can safely determine, or Vee's Divinations indicate we are unlikely to safely enter the Forge, we will seek out another entrance.
-[X] If the AMF effect is limited and the Raven reports no obvious dangers, and Vee's Divinatory efforts agree, we will carefully proceed into the tunnel.
--[X] Lya casts Wind Walk and Life Bubble on everyone, and Vee casts Mass Aid.
--[X] Dany will use her Detect Secret Doors spell and once we reach the AMF zone, Viserys will use his previously cast Greater Arcane Sight spell and a Blood Wished Dungeonsight spell to see what he can learn of the immediate surroundings.
--[X] Vee will use the Titan's Tools, specifically the Greater Stone Shape device, to bring the entire 30 foot stone plug down the shaft with us, continually shaping it into a sort of massive five foot diameter worm or serpent.
---[X] When we reach the AMF zone, if the shaft's geometry and stability allows it, Vee will form a massive hollow stone cylinder which Viserys in HHD form will dragonhandle into place, pushing it all the way though the AMF zone to form a sort of tunnel within a tunnel through which everyone can pass if deemed necessary to protect them from traps hidden in the walls of the shaft.

Proposed level up for Thoros. Not much happening for him this level up, though he does get another daily use of Smite Evil and an additional 2nd level spell.

He should get a Flaming Valyrian Steel blade. What does he prefer? Longsword? Bastard Sword? Greatsword?

I know his armor is Adamantine, but did we get it enchanted?

@Goldfish Comments?
Looks good, dude.

Kinda confused about the Alchemical Simulacrum, though. Does it still have the limited duration like a regular Lesser Simulacrum, or does it persist until destroyed?

He already has a really nice VS sword, though we could add the Flaming property to it, too.

Valyrian Steel Greatsword of Stunning (+2): 2d6+2; 19-20/x2
  • On a successful melee attack, you can command this sword to Stun a creature for 1 round. This effect is resisted with a DC (10 + 1/2 your character level + your Charisma modifier) Fortitude saving throw. This ability can be used (1 + your Charisma bonus) times per day. Once this ability is activated, only the person who did so can make further use of it until the following day.
His Adamantine fullplate is enchanted with a +1 Enhancement bonus.

Limited duration, I believe, as the latter "Greater Alchemical Simulacrum" specifically mentions "as Simulacrum", which is Instantaneous.

They'd be fluffed as prototypes or, more honestly, 'failed experiments'. Because they die after a short while. Ethically, it's probably okay, since they're not sentient really, but it would be kind of squick to dispose of dead bodies that look just like yourself all the time.

@Goldfish Now the better question, because they're a creature, can you use Awaken on them? This merits... experimentation.

On ones that wouldn't live a tortured, screaming half-life existence, of course. :V

Kinda weird for it to take 24 hours to grow on, but only have it persist for one hour per caster level.

It's a necessary gateway Discovery if you want to go further down the Alchemical Simulacrum line, so it'll have to work, I guess. You are intending for Denys to go that way, right?

Yup, that's the plan. I also have their other Discoveries planned out. His other 7 will be Collective Memory, Greater Mutagen, Greater Alchemical Simulacrum, Elixir of Life, Grand Mutagen, Greater Cognatogen, Grand Cognatogen in that order with his Grand Discovery being Eternal Youth.

He's an alchemist who creates homunculus' (depending on DP's ruling on Awaken), a literally superhuman mind with perfect recall, the ability to bring the dead back to life and Super Soldier Serum that can either double his physical attributes, or double his mental abilities, and finally never grows old.

He's basically just missing the "turn lead into gold" card.
