Maybe, but the thing is you do not know how you will react to PTSD until you suffer from it, same principle here.
Point.

Though all said and done I did get the impression that Mel has been through more than enough shit already and would have long left the whole job of travelling the world and converting or smiting Burny's foes if she wasn't build for this life.

And loosing a few Misfits would be worth it to come closer to the goal of turning her from Burny's PC into Viserys' PC.

As for the real-world analogy, analysing how a potential soldier reacts to stress and trauma without causing serious harm should be done anyway, before sending anyone to war.

Imagine being unwilling to sacrifice a weak pawn in exchange for a stronger one. What a strange idea!

Let's keep that as a last-ditch solution, of course. It'd be poor PR. Hopefully there's a way to keep both!

I did say OOC in the very first comment of the chain.
Of course Viserys would and should hope for a full success of the mission, with loot and champange afterwards.

Did anyone invent sparkly wine in Planetos?

One more thing you guys might like to consider is that death and whatever horrors Haren would inflict afterwards might just cause people to break down, they might not want to be resurected, or they might not want to be adventurers. Do not underestimate the mental toll something like that would take.
Would they remember said horrors, you don't remember your afterlife when resurrected, do you remember horrors inflicted on your soul after death?

  • [X] Capture some or all of the pack of flesh warped creatures
-[X] Seek out the pack of Ghonatines and capture as many as possible, especially the multi-hued monster. Use Ancestral Awakening to learn Chain Spell in order to deploy by the Mass Turtle Beam (Chained Baleful Polymorph), if necessary to aid in the capture before the Ghonatines can scatter.
    [X] Turn Full Dragon
-[X] Fly to the fleshwarpers and challenge the leader for dominance! :V

Part MMCMLXXV: Strange Hunt
Strange Hunt

Fourteenth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

The nest, if nest it be, will keep. The pack might scatter at any moment, and so you fly north along the river and then over the eastern bank until you see the pack running between the trees below you. "Change," you command in the tongue of Valyria as you had so many times before, seeking to transmute flesh warped by sorcery into a more harmless forms, the word echoes through the twisted vine-choked trees, seeking to snare them all with a single spell, but the leader is unharmed and of the others only two are snared, twisting and shrinking with the sound of twisting bone and cartilage.

That is when the leader does the first thing that surprises you, rather than bellow a challenge or try to flee it turns to grab one of the afflicted before running off, scattering the pack. So much for an easy sweep. Still, you are far swifter and more agile in the air than the lumbering creatures are on the ground. Twisting and turning to catch sight of them through the thick canopy, the spirit you had conjured keeping you on track, you manage to catch another pair, but it is Vee who managed to catch the leader, turning the murk under the trees cloying and thick like sap to a fly. The remaining pair escape in spite of Lya's, Dany's, and Malarys' efforts.

Captured 1 Mighty Ghonhatine and 4 regular Ghonhatines

That is when the second surprise of the day arrives, this one far less welcome, for when you reach the nest you find that it has been ripped apart, unrecognizable scraps of bone and offal scattered on the bank and flowing in the river, not even a trace of magic to hint at who or what may have done this.

Vee frowns, first looking then touching the moist ground carefully. "There aren't any fresh tracks around here besides the lizards."

"So whatever did this must have flown," you guess. You might have missed a particularly swift and silent flyer while you hunted the beasts.

"Or it tore itself apart," Lya says. "You did say it looked alive and it had plenty of... limbs." Curiosity wars with nausea on her expression, before the former wins out as you knew it would. "Maybe we should question one of the prisoners..."

"Not here," Malarys interjects thoughtfully. "Previous reports indicate that the fleshwarped always fled when confronted with strength enough to capture them, and now this, something destroying an obviously magical site before we can study it. We are dealing with some manner of higher mind at work here, and I doubt we will be so fortunate as to find one as benign as Set'Var's guardians here."

"Doubt anyone wants to be the heir of his shit," Ser Richard grumbles, looking down at the river as a flat horned worm-thing breaks the surface to look up with stalked eyed.

"That looks kind of cute," Dany offers after following the knight's gaze. In the faintly disbelieving silence that follows she adds, "Xor's cute."

That, no one can deny. Alas that you do not have the time for idle curiosity.

What do you do next?

OOC: Another short update since I need to know your long term plans. Expect to see more extinct animals, both as animals and other things here in Sothoryos. If GRRM can rob the Mesozoic for setting elements I can do the same with the rest of the fossil record.

Dany: "I will make a killing selling Xor plushies."

Viserys: "Dany, I don't know if that's a good idea for your first company."

Later...

Dany: "What was that? Aberrantly Adorable is making a killing you say? More money in one quarter than three of Viserys' companies? The Braavosi are asking me to write an editorial about how I became so good at business?"

Viserys:

I believe this is what one calls a power move.

Would they know where more of these nests are? The Ghonhatines that is?

Alright, let's get our heads straight here, everyone:

Our priorities are, in order of importance:
[] Securing the Flesh-Forge.
-[] Destroying any active threats (i.e. whoever's been operating around here)
--[] Destroying any passive threats (i.e. remaining fleshcrafted creatures that can be hunted down later on, or by other PCs, whose time is less precious).
---[] Looting various interesting fauna.

All in agreement?

I doubt interrogating the creatures will get us much, INT 4 is kinda problematic there.
At most we'll propably get an impression of areas they fear and similarly stuff of some value.

[X] Question your prisoners
-[X] Rather than attempt to interrogate a potentially hostile creature, Malarys will use Brain Spider to sift through the thoughts and memories of the Mighty Ghonatine to learn all he can of interest. We are especially concerned with learning about what other powerdul creatures inbabit the area, primarily those with supernatural abilities, what they might know of the ruined city, and what was the purpose for the meat hive.
--[X] Unless Malarys' efforts turn up something of critical importance, we will proceed to searching the ruins for the most likely entrance to the Flesh Forge.
-[X] In the meantime, have Viserys use Runestaff of Old Gods to cast Commune with Nature while Lya uses Inspired Spell to duplicate the effects of a Tectonic Communion spell.
--[X] Specify search for Leylines (on which we known Fleshforges to be built); Large and/or underground carverns, and anything out of ordinary for the jungle (like, for example, someone's secret encampment).
-[X] Expedition Members: Viserys, Dany, Lya, Richard, Vee, Malarys, Xor, and Sandor

The main issue is that we don't know where the forge is. It could be anywhere on this island. It could even be in the ruins. Frankly we need more info regarding this place. Also seeing what the hell those lights are.
