On what item was Viserys own Soulfire effect again?

He can just use Deathward as part of his buffing while he lends the item to Bonnie.
That gives her all the time in the world.
No way. Viserys has Soulfire Bracers, which have been upgraded with a Bracers of Arcane Freedom effect that lets him cast spells 2/Day as if modified by the Silent Spell Metamagic. By the time Horde Thief rolls around, I guarantee you they've been upgraded further.

If it's an issue, he can create a Demiplane and stash her in another universe.

It's only Soulfire and Arcane Freedom.
He can life without that during research-work to find a more permanent solution.

If he decides to solve the problem with Fire and Blood though, he would obviously keep it for thenext fight and just shut down the harmful effect/ritual fast enough to avoid long-term damage to the victims.

Part MMDCCXCIV: Kindred Found Anew
Kindred Found Anew

Sixth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

After some discussion it is decided to speak to Lord Hightower before making any other moves in the city. His assistance would make intrigues flow far smoother, and the less plotting you could be honestly said to have done without his knowledge the better you are likely to be received. So you make yourselves comfortable for the night at the inn while your agents continue to walk the streets of Oldtown, dogging the steps of fiends and their pawns. The Drow probably appreciate the darkness.

About an hour before the end of your last watch however you receive a welcome, if unexpected, message as Dany's voice rings in your mind from across the boundaries of the world. "We are coming back, we have the souls, but we also caught something really big. Could you come over to Snare Island to help?"

"Of course,"
you send back, only pausing long enough to tell Ser Richard where you are going before you speak into being the spell of translocation.

You do not have long to wait, about half a minute later an otherworldly behemoth that would dwarf even your own dragon form crashes into the stone of the island like an avalanche of scale, bone, and horn, its single enormous azure eye staring blankly at the sky as Dany rushes towards you with a sweep of silvery angel wings. "So how to you like our catch?"

"An Astral Dreadnought..." you shake, your head recognizing the beast as one that even far-traveling dragons give a wide berth to. "How did you trap it?"

"Oh, it was easy. The beast was stupid and we stole what little wit it had," your sister replies, going on to recount with the occasional interjection from Xor how they had found the monster perched upon a fragment of a statue of Syrax, likely broken from the ruin of her divine realm, using the souls of the dead as lures for mages hoping to recover the souls of some of those lost to the Doom. Of those souls Lady Saenena now held two, coaxed into fragile soul-stones she had wrought with Anu's aid while the bones had been gathered to be delivered into the Fungus Forge.

Material gains:
  • 1 Captive Astral Dreadnaught
  • 35 HD worth of Ancient Bones bleached by the Astral Currents
  • 2 Soul-Stones containing the souls of Lady Saenena's children
XP:
  • Dany: 1,800
  • Xor: 5,400

As the tale ends you lay a hand upon the beast, wish it into smoke and vapor, seal it away in enchanted glass, and then envelope it within the folds of your cloak just as the bones are a moment later.

Lady Saenena Caleris, last of her line, steps through the crimson mist before it has even cleared, her stride more certain than ever you have seen it, her eyes bright with hope. "I found them. Now I ask of you but one small thing—the price in reagents by which I might attempt to restore my children to life—and I will serve you faithfully and my line after me."

"Certainly, my lady," you reply, drawing forth the bright gems, wondering if you aught to remind her that even with the souls at hand it is still their choice if they should return or pass on into the River of Souls. There is fear as much as hope in her eyes... she knows as well as you do, though she might not wish to say it aloud. Instead you remind her of something that may well have slipped her mind: "Aelor died of poison taken by his own hand, but Aenie may well have perished of old age amid the ruins of the Freehold. You would have to word the wish differently for her."

Lost 2 Raise Dead Quality Diamonds (2,000 IM)

She nods in thanks, then places the gems together in pairs upon the soil of the island and upon them utters a wish of blood, fire, desperate hope, and a will that had endured centuries of agony, but above all else she is a mother calling her lost children home. You only hope that they will answer, else her pledge to you will be as brief as the remainder of her life. You still remember the first words she spoke to you: 'I'm not sure if I want to live...'

The light sifts from golden summer morning to the blood red that stains the skies of Valyria, a scorching wind that twists the sand into a whirlwind. Eyes half-lidded against the grit you see something shine in its midst... a pulsing pale light... no two.

A child you have seen once before among the dead and damned stumbles from the dust first, rushing into his mother's arms, then a young woman stares up, blinking against the light, taking in the scene before her in stunned surprise. "Aelor... mother... how...?" Aenie Caleris, child of a broken age and first of the 'Old Blood' of the wastes, asks before embracing her mother and now much younger brother in tears.

Aelor Caleris resurrected
Aenie Caleris resurrected

You offered them a way back to Dragon's Roost then leave them to their reunion for now, you would not deprive them of each other's company after such a long cruel parting.

Dany accompanies you back to Oldtown and of course Sandor accompanies her as a sworn sword must. Xor wishes to do so as well, curious to see the Citadel, but given the troubles the city has had with the Deep Ones he understands why it would be unwise for now. Thus you next seek out Lynesse Mormont to bring her home in turn. You are glad to find her looking more at ease with her surroundings after a few days in Azema's company, though as soon as you mention why you have come a whirlwind of emotions passes over her, too many and too tangled for you to read clearly. In truth you do not think even she is sure of what she will do or say.

The lady's eyes fix eagerly upon the Hightower as though she were the lookout of some ship seeking safe harbor from the storm. "Thank you, Your Grace. I will see to it that Baelor receives you as soon as he is able...." There is more bravado than confidence to the words, wondering no doubt what kind of welcome she will truly have returning by stealth, the soon to be former wife of a disgraced Northern lord.

With Demons, Farspawn, and other foes about you take no chances, escorting Lynesse to the very edge of the bridge that spans an arm of the river to Battle Island where the ancient tower rises above Oldtown.

About an hour later a footman wearing the white tower of his lord upon his livery approaches you with a note, and invitation from Lord Baelor that also includes a carefully drawn bit of geometry marking precisely where you would have to translocate for a private discussion, untroubled by the wagging of tongues.

Truth the told you are quite glad not to have to pass through the lower part of the tower, the oily sheen of accursed stone clear in the morning light. If things go well you really aught to speak to Lord Hightower about that. You are half tempted to build him a whole new tower if only not to have that in the middle of Westeros' second largest city.

Together with your mother, your sister, Ser Richard, and the Hound you make your way along the proposed path to find yourselves across a wide ebony desk from the Lord of the Hightower, master of Oldtown and its lands. Baelor 'Brightsmile' is a man in his late thirties with bright green-blue eyes and an open face beneath his dark blond hair, hinting at how he earned his name, though the smile he gives you is rather more polite than open.

"Good day, my lord, my ladies," he bows to you, your mother, and Dany in turn. "Ser knights," he nods to Ser Richard and Sandor, earning a scowl from the latter for having mistaken him for one. "Before all else I would like to thank you for the consideration you have shown my sister in... troubled times. Whatever else comes of this meeting know that I will be ever-grateful for that." He pauses. "Though from the sound of things she might wish to return than stay if she can..." The phrase trails off, not quite a question as the lord graciously offers and opening to begin negotiations.

What do you say?

OOC: It was actually very unlikely for Aenie to want to return too since she had died at peace after a long life ensuring the survival of her small clan through the end of the world, but the roll was a 98 so you guys get one more full fledged mage. I'm thinking level 8-9 with a social build and without much interest in combat.

Huh. Do we know if any of her clan survives to this day?

Ah, the sweet taste of success.

Good job, Dany!

Sandor, congratulations, you're still sane!

I'm kind of torn on what to do with the Astral Dreadnought. On one hand, it's a nice sacrifice, but on the other it's great Fungal Forge fodder. And on the third tentacle, I kinda want to strip it of free will and agency, slap some armor and a saddle on it, and have some of our people ride it into battle...

We definitely want to extract the Antimagic Eye if we can. That sort of weapon is in a class of its own.

You realize the potential problems with that?
It's a barely sentient soul-eating super predator. I don't think it would trip Dany's slavery-detector, or anyone else's.

With proper preparation, it would be a good addition to our forces on the Plane of Fire when we assault the Adamantine mine.

You are missing the primary problem of a CL boosted Greater Dispel Magic or Disjunction.

You give me too little credit. I would make sure we Feebleminded it first thing to permanently render it no smarter than a squirrel. Then Vee would train it like any other animal.

At that point, Dispels and Disjunctions would be useless against it.

Just idle speculation anyway, no way will it escape the eye extraction/fungal forge/sacrifice career path.

Reached Heal.

But yes, this is much safer. The main thing I want about the Dreadnought is that Eye, and maybe some deeper understanding of how to cut Astral Cords. Then again, if we really want to work out how that's done, we can probably talk to the Githzerai about it during or after the war with the Deep Ones.

Part of me would really love to find Gith's sword and fuse it with Oathkeeper.

I mostly want to cut that eye apart to figure out which parts are producing the AMF effect, then build AMF lanterns. Equipping the Inquisition and Praetori with those would be magnificent.

I have a feeling that they would be absolutely crushingly expensive. Not disagreeing with the idea, but to be honest, they should be expensive in the line of somewhere between AMF and AMR or it just breaks things - and raises the question of why everyone else doesn't have things like it.

Sorry, dude. Nice thought, but I'm gonna fight against that one. It not only promises be stupid expensive, but also game breaking.

Honestly, I would prefer to just use it to try to give Xor an upgrade to his main eye.

I could see minor artifacts crafted with that sort of power, something that would take Lya time. Does that sound like a fair compromise to you guys?

Keep in mind that it's the Githyanki that live on the Astral Plane and have the cord-cutting swords.

The Githzerai are not related to that issue.
