One thing to note about Balerion, that you can raise him at all means he did not die, as most suppose, of old age, he certainly did not die in battle either so that leaves sickness or foul play and you can all guess which one Viserys is betting on.
I just wanted to ask about that. Allegedly he was growing weak at the ripe old age of 200-something and died of old age.

Meanwhile, Cannibal is probably older then Balerion and looked just fine right until he disappeared.

@Duesal, I personally think it's mostly about compatible characters when taming dragons. Obara and Cannibal just sound like two ornery bastards that would get along.

However, that hope has been dashed. :(

On the plus side though, we can get Balerion.

And Stannis can be a dragonrider. Maybe he would like to try his luck with Cannibal? They share the fratricidal urges at least. :V

As a note you can use ritual magic, such as Malarys knows to make even less compatible riders work. Not sure how someone like Obara would feel about learning magic though

@DragonParadox

So I have to point out, given the wording on which dragons could be raised, you specified that Ceraxes' bones had to be recovered, but implied that Vhagar's didn't?

Ceraxes climbed back ashore before passing, so his bones would have likely been included in the 17~ dragon skulls the Targaryens kept handy in the Red Keep, whereas Vhagar was lost to the bottom of the God's Eye and it would have been tremendously difficult to get anything of him out of there. So isn't it the reverse?

We got Aegons crown, Aegons sword and Aegons attitude towards the delusions of sovereignty the Westerosi have.

Aegons dragon fits right in.

We actually don't have Blackfyre, but two outta three ain't bad.

That has been pointed out and edited. You have the bones if you want to raise him.

His age is pretty much unknown.
He was allegedly old by the point the Doom was roughly 200 years ago, but no idea how old he was when he left Valyria.

Also, weirdly enough, he was described as "having just stopped growing" around that time.
Now Red Dragons reach their final age category and stop natural growth at around 1200 years, the halfpoint of their natural lifespan.
Even if the life of Valyrian Dragons is vastly sped up he should have left half his life before him after the point he stopped growing.

I want on the bandwagon!

Also, as one of the more strident voices arguing against Viserys getting his own Valyrian Dragon, allow me to say:
It's The Black Dread.
Argument Officially Withdrawn.

I know. That the dragonkeepers tried to keep a Targ away from Balerion simce he was "too weak" also rings a lot of alarm bells. They were probably worried he would recover if taken away from his daily gallon of poison.

Wouldn't be surprised if he has an irrational hankering for roasted old men with clinking chains.

@DragonParadox

New omake tonight, already wrote some of it while waiting for my shift to start.

Criston PoV, with a Thoros PoV in the back-half. And special guests, Bonnifer Hasty and Melony!

Because it seems exceedingly likely Mel would pay our favorite (poorly recovering) alcoholic priest a visit.

@DragonParadox
Do we have the next set of mage-matches?

I'll roll those up tomorrow. I want to get the proposal done today

Sounds great. Looking forward to it.:)
