Not even a single day to grab the Court Mage's ship? Can't we send Amrelath to get that for us in proxy?
Dude, we can't attack the Sultan's court mage with anything less than our full party.
That guy has to be a level 20 fullcaster to get the position, I'd be wary of attacking him with everyone, but sending just a few people is a suicide commando.

Amrelath is currently slotted in to lead the anemic B-Party we had left over on barrow raids in case of Other responses to that. And all our A-List is busy with cleaning up after Varys, research, Scholarium courses and what not.

We can't take the court mage without screwing over important strategic goals on Planetos.

Don't we have an undead god that hates devils swimming in that place?

Seems to me opening a portal to hell is basically just ringing the poor bastard's dinner bell.
It's a demonic artifact not a devilish artifact, it will be summoning demons not devils, the undead god will probably still enjoy eating them, but not quite as much as it would devils.

Dude, it's one day. We should be able manage that, regardless of what else is going on. Taking a day long break from research or whatever else is going on isn't going to ruin progress.

And if not, at least we can tell the Djinni and Shaitan about him.

EDIT: It doesn't really matter right now, though, because my vote doesn't lock us in to anything.

Not to mention the fact that the court mage wouldn't be poking around for rare reagents during a war for no reason. We really don't want him to bring them back to the Brazen Throne.

Do we want to take on that guy at all?
Court Mage of the Brazen Throne?

The regular mages of the City could pull off a Mythic ritual to channel the Sultan's power.
This guy is very likely better.

Do you want find out what an archmage on a Malik-chassis looks like from close up?

Guys I just realized there is a slight confusion, the court mage will not be personally looking for reagents. He sent an expedition.

Anyway vote closed

Poor comparison, IMO. It took two high level Efreeti mages to pull off that ritual, it requires the Sultans power to be channeled, and it rendered them helpless while in use.

Even if he is a 20th level caster, that's hardly an insurmountable obstacle for us now, though I certainly wouldn't treat him as a soft target.

No, that's hardly one day. Or do you want to attack them in the middle of a no doubt fortified Efreeti city?

The month is already full of interruptions for all involved. Don't push it by again pretending that a whole raiding expedition is a minor action.

TBH I think we could get in one battle by handing off an Arcane Marked stone and being prepared to hear a Sending.

Djinni Captain sends to us, "We've found them, the fight is right now."

We planeshift in a strike group, greater teleport to the stone, and then we're in business. We stick around for the fight, get in some minor looting (a few turtle ships sound tasty) then deuces.

Ordinarily a expeditionary attack to another Plane would take at least a week.

We have allies to do the scut-work.

Expeditions take time to both travel and to achieve their objectives.

Just hire out someone to keep track of them or secret an Arcane Mark somewhere on it and we'll be able to track it down when we have more time.

Bribing a low ranking crew member for status updates is almost certainly par for course in this political environment.

That's what I was thinking. We don't have to do any of the travel time at all. And even with all the things listed -- the Varys cleanup wasn't being handled by us, the vast majority of Pentos' conquest isn't being handled by us but by the Sealord instead (all we're doing is showing up for the battle and scaring the crap out of the Pentoshi), and the conclave takes at most two weeks though it's probably shorter.

Saying that we sacrifice all our strategic goals in Prime Material by sparing one day for the battle seems exaggerated.

And it should be noted that this might not be a Prime Material strategic goal, but it's a strategic goal nonetheless. We do not want that Court Mage to get his hands on these reagents.

...can the "ingredient" the expedition is being set for, be the undead-snek itself?

The possibility is there, we know it is hunted actively.

Getting more info won't be reasonable either - time is short due to strategic tasks.

Well, I can't do more then warn you, but this will definitely take more then a day. It's exceedingly likely that the whole thing is just the hook for another fetch-quest that binds us 2 weeks in the PoF.

If you're so worried about it then we don't have to go, just send Amrelath and a few PCs in our place. Since the Court Mage isn't on the ship it won't be a suicide mission and he can handle it, and we get the reagents.

As for timing, we could just have Yrten and Siduri only call when the ship is both just out of the port and when they're readying to attack. I seriously doubt it's a hook for a fetch quest, though. Sometimes loot is just loot. Was Zathir's ship attached to a fetch quest? No. The quest was capturing the ship.

@TalonofAnathrax Dunno if you're participating in France's new national sport today, but I read that things got a bit violent today. Hopefully you didn't get caught up in any rioting.
