Good night guys see you tomorrow with the award ceremony for the melee, jousting and the arrival of Yrten and the Golden Wind bearing extra-planar targets for raiding.
Yeessssss. I seek news of Turtle Ships and Devil Hulks. Especially Devil Hulks.

Also, with the war with the Deep Ones looming, I want to strike at the Lich Salamander King and steal his relics of Cerulean Sign.

@Azel I think you're not only ignoring Dany's input, but being a bit too tongue in cheek. Sandor would not appreciate the joke, IMO.

[X] Ask Dany to allow Sandor to serve as her sword, shield, and reacher of things on high shelves.
-[X] If she agrees, Dany will offer Sandor the position herself, with Viserys' blessing, when he receives his prizes for winning the melee tournament.

Daenerys doesn't need a bodyguard! How dare you ?!? She's made a huge deal out of her independence! She doesn't need to be coddled!

I dislike Sandor as a sworn shield and think that Danny could do better.
For one thing, having a sworn shield who can't follow you around when you go flying kinda sucks :/
He'll also die horrible in any real level-appropriate encounters for her !

I know that keeping a living fighter around at her level is basically one big status symbol, but is it really worth the effort and money?
And he's an ass! Not exactly a great friend for her!

"You want me to what? Follow a bloody girl around while she stitches doilies, hosts tea parties, and other terrible activities?"

"... Yes. That's exactly what you'll be doing."

Gravely chuckling ensues from Richard.

"What's so bloody funny Lonmouth?"

"Just picturing you enjoying the tea and dress up Clegane. In the Plane of Fire."

This isn't coddling. Viserys doesn't need a sworn sword, yet Ser Richard proves useful time and again.

Not liking the character is one thing, but the flying problem can be fixed very easily, and I'm fairly certain he'd be able to keep up with the main party. At minimum he's somewhere around level 14.

He just won the melee. A big chunk of his gear is already being accounted for.

I'm not entirely sure why people think Dany wouldn't want Sandor around. She already spent time digging into his past and then scaring the shit out of Oberyn until he listened to her, just for his sake.

Given previous behavior from Dany herself and comparing this to Viserys regular behavior, we can safely assume that Dany has already declared "MINE!" and adopted him.

It would also somehow increase the murder rate by the same magnitude.

That's a feature :V

And yet, it should be her choice who she takes as her Sworn Sword. You are trying to remove that from her, which in itself is a removal of agency.

No. Fuck no, in fact.

I dislike Sandor as a sworn sword for Daenerys. She doesn't need one, and the very idea is terrible. Her personal strength (of character and strength of arms) has been a fundamental trait for over 8000 pages now. And you want to hire a babysitter for her? Some goon to follow her around and look angrily at people for her?
This is ridiculous!

He almost lost to a level 11 Oberyn, so I expect him to be level 11 or 12 max.

You know what they say about assumption.

Look, all we're asking for is that you give her the choice. If she says yes, no issue. But give her that, damnit.

Frankly, you are being ridiculous. The intent is for Dany to have someone around to soak up damage and sword things while she is casting.

Do you really want to suggest Viserys is weak because he keeps Richard around?

That's not the point that Talon is arguing. And regardless of if she should have someone to do that or not, there's a massive body of difference between 'convenient meat shield' and 'sword sword'. You have got to know that.

Would you like if your brother told someone to follow you around constantly, interfering in your social life and being a pain in the privacy?
I certainly wouldn't.
I think you are mixing something up there. A sworn sword is a personal minion, not someone glued to your ass.

That Cersei can't take 5 steps without someone to commandeer around is her own choice.

I was under the impression that a sworn sword is in fact someone glued to your ass, one-man bodyguard style. It certainly seems that way in canon, at least.
Let's not even mention the Kingsguard...

Going with this because I can't imagine Dany saying no and this argument is dumb, and always will be dumb.

Way to suck all the joy out of something.

  • [X] Assign Sandor as Danys sworn sword.
-[X] If he believes that this means a lot of boring standing around while Dany is doing princess things, don't correct him. Just make sure you are around to see his face when he learns the truth.

Actually, there are two terms. Sworn shield and sworn sword.

The former is the bodyguard thing, though you can still commandeer them around when you don't want them near you.
The latter is basically your personal beatstick and attack dog.

What Richard to Viserys is a sworn sword and if there is one thing we can say about that relationship, then that Richard tends to be very far away from Viserys a lot of times.
