Daenerys doesn't need a bodyguard! How dare you ?!? She's made a huge deal out of her independence! She doesn't need to be coddled!
I dislike Sandor as a sworn shield and think that Danny could do better.
For one thing, having a sworn shield who can't follow you around when you go flying kinda sucks :/
He'll also die horrible in any real level-appropriate encounters for her !
I know that keeping a living fighter around at her level is basically one big status symbol, but is it really worth the effort and money?
And he's an ass! Not exactly a great friend for her!

This isn't coddling. Viserys doesn't need a sworn sword, yet Ser Richard proves useful time and again.
Not liking the character is one thing, but the flying problem can be fixed very easily, and I'm fairly certain he'd be able to keep up with the main party. At minimum he's somewhere around level 14.
He just won the melee. A big chunk of his gear is already being accounted for.

Her personal strength (of character and strength of arms) has been a fundamental trait for over 8000 pages now. And you want to hire a babysitter for her? Actually, there are two terms. Sworn shield and sworn sword.
The former is the bodyguard thing, though you can still commandeer them around when you don't want them near you.
The latter is basically your personal beatstick and attack dog.
What Richard to Viserys is a sworn sword and if there is one thing we can say about that relationship, then that Richard tends to be very far away from Viserys a lot of times.
