Mind you, a Shock Trooper build would be devastating on a Praetorian. He could literally charge a fully armored knight on horseback, tank the lance and then proceed to cut straight through rider and mount with his burning VS sword.

Also, speaking of which, the text on the hand graft states that overuse will damage the weapon...

...but what if the weapon is Valyrian Steel?

You'd need Wildfyre or dragonflame to have a hope of hurting it.

We could add the Enlarge Person effect that Richard has on his belt so they can grow to Large-size at will. That makes counter charging galloping knights even more interesting.

It's a cheap effect, too.

All the fun of having your own Fire Giants, except they're not literal flaming assholes!

Take that, Brass Ass!

@Azel How do you think The flaming hands graft would interact with the burning hands SLA from firesong Orphan?

Edit: Also, guess I know where were getting the burning hands grafts from...

Uhm... not at all? Though if the Praetorian has 5 HD or more, he gets 10 points of fire immunity.

By the way, on the matter of height. We can conceivably say that the average Praetorian is a foot taller then the average human. That's still within the range of the Medium size category and half-way towards a 40K Space Marine.

To illustrate:
Cersei / Lena Headey - 1.66m
Guy On The Left - ca. 1.73m, which is incidentally roughly medieval average
The Mountain / Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson - 2.06m

So every Praetorian would look like the show version of The Mountain That Rides. I think that should fulfill the desire of buffness.

Edit: Have another:

Hardened gold, naturally.

@Azel what class were you thinking for Praetorians?

I heard crusader

But I... were you guys going to strip the manuevers out of Crusader?

Edit:
Also, 30 fucking 7 ac @Azel

Is it odd to anyone else that they have way more AC than our PC companions that wear plate?

In a Legion it's accounted for by the shield wall, but for one man to tank greater hits than Richard is...odd.

Am I reading something incorrectly about this?

All this faux Latin, tsk tsk.
I'll admit it's been grating on me as well. The Legion makes sense since the Ghiscari are a thing in-universe and they're blatantly inspired by them, and I guess we can say the same thing about the Praetorians. Personally, looking at their role as ultra elite mooks capable of keeping up with high-level PCs and serving as Captain America's for the public, I think we should call them Kingsguard. I get that Viserys and the thread don't hold the institution in any real regard, but they are seen with a great deal of respect by many people, and it'd be a much more IC allusion to an elite royal guard that also acts as a military unit. Although I really like the pic Azel posted, having them decked out in pure white plate and capes is also extremely striking.

Doesn't Valyrian Steel have a true colour?

Leaving it unadorned is statement enough I think without overlapping with Legion or going gaudy/outside of colour scheme.

Praetorian seems forced to me, can't see a good reason for it IC.

Everyone growing up in Sorcerer's Deep learns to read, write, basic skills in arithmetics, basic knowledge of magic and what it can do (this is to head off any and all charlatans), history, geography, etc. We're aiming for the quality of a modern education.

Knowledge (Planes) too. If you know your place in the cosmos its harder to fall for a charlatan.

Dark and smoky grey, with rippled patterns like Damascus Steel.

If they're decked from head to toe, even the shields which add nearly no advantage then I say leave them in raw VS.

It looks cool and it makes a powerful statement, also links them to us without having to deck them in house colours and clash with the Legion.

It 's the subdurmal armor mesh. We just got the stuff, so none of the companions have it yet.

I wasn't sure how it stacks and not in a position to check ATM, I remember 0 ASF though so why not on Scholarum mages if it's so effective and cost-effective, money arguments basically don't work when it comes to our mages because they are the most capable of generating personal income.

Kingsguard sounds stupid, specially since they won't do much guarding and more straight killing.
To be fair, the actual Kingsguard also functioned as agents of the Crown's will as well as bodyguards. The supersoldiers would only have a spiritual connection to the old Kingsguard, anyway, they wouldn't even have to be knights. I'm just proposing it because the name has a great deal of respected history to it we could use and 'Praetorian,' while being cool, doesn't make a great deal of sense IC.

Also, I don't think 'Kingsguard' sounds stupid, although that comes down to personal preference.

Actually, not a bad use for them at all. The rebel fey are going to be a serious problem at some point.

You can say that again. Having ground troops capable of whipping them should deflate their egos a bit... and keep the peace. Someone said PC's cant be everywhere to stop Fey incursions. Well, these guys are the answer.

Spitballing some names (because I'm also not too taken by praetorian):

Kingswatch.
Silverguard.
Grey Talons.
Imperes.
Warblades.
Dragonguard.

Axel is insisting on them gaining 7 NA on top of 4 DEX, so that's 9 AC, so plus 10 base, plus 11 armor, plus 5 shield, that's 37.

Aka, why 7 is too much.

When it comes to a vote, I'm pushing a 5k/5 AC version.

Yeah. Maybe not Dragon Knights, but something that I would actually hear in ASOIAF.

I alread dislike Imperium, to be honest. Empire is perfectly fine.

I like Kingsguard quite a bit, actually.

Honestly I'm half tempted to give them Feybane Cold Iron Thinblades as backup weapons just to give the fey the message that we're not messing around.
