@Goldfish Speaking of raises, since Azema mentioned she cares little for gold (though we should make sure she has all the funds she needs for her debauchery for the near future for sure), she definitely deserves a reward of some kind for putting up with... that.

How about coming up with a wishlist of items for her that would come in handy? Maybe add it to next month's crafting docket.

I'm not actually sure how I'll be handling Thoros. I think his first meeting with the Lads should be their first canon 'on screen' scene, and in any case, I've plotted out a decent climax at this point that adding Thoros in would just feel tacked on. If I handle that scene personally, it'll definitely be its own plot.

Technically, you're already canon, buddy! At this point you're pretty much one request away from handling Thoros' plotline, I feel. But I understand about him being major enough a character to warrant his own individual arc.

I'm thinking we give her a small but well-furnished manor of her own in Sorcerer's Deep to live in whenever she's not on a mission. Same deal as Danar and Alyssa.

I propose to have it called Funtime Manor and have it officially brandished as the go-to place for any "aristocracy" in SD to have some fun.

And Azema having fun over them.

*anti-aristocracy feeling intensify*

Having your omake declared canon is always a special kind of gratifying, yes. But I'm eager to see what DP does with my creations in his universe. That was the major goal of the series, really, to create characters that would actually enter the quest in a meaningful manner.

That was also my goal... if I could finish it!

Due to a slip-up in planning, a new build manse was allocated for both Mereth, Azema and Maelor. Their rooms in the keep have already been repurposed (Lya: "What do you mean I don't need a tertiary emergency library?") so they are stuck living with each other until new homes have been built for two of them. Sadly, between zoning issues and other projects, it will be a few months until that happens. Until then, they are stuck with each other.

Recurring Guests:
- Waymar and Ysilla Royce, who live next door and the latter insists that Azema is the only one suitable to watch her while Waymar is out and about to rescue maidens all over the universe.
- Richard Lonmouth, who regularly comes over to discuss purely work related things with Mereth.
- Oberyn Martell, who keeps teasing Maelor about the harem he acquired.
- Leto, who keeps dropping by at the most inconvenient times and starts berating everyone for the mess of the week.
- Glyra and the Roaming Chaos, who keep crashing in Maelors room whenever they need to lay low for a while.
- Various girls and men sleeping with Azema or Maelor. Ocassionally both. Oberyn keeps hitting on them whenever he is there.

You may begin writing that omake series now.

You forgot their landlord, Xor! It's kind, but concerned with property damage and the lives of the neighbors!

With special guest! AURANE!

He's not in the second season, because he overestimated his value and marketability and asked for a raise when renewing his contract, before being let go.

He went on to star in a far less popular show about a deep sea expeditionary fleet exploring distant climes and battling sea monsters. The technical aspects of the show were actually quite good, but the characterization was criticized for being out of place and overly chauvinistic.

We've not been piling gear on her, but over the last few months I've managed to work some minor equipment upgrades in with Azema in mind. It wouldn't hurt to get her some additional stuff, though. There is some room on the crafting schedule for her.

Her character sheet is out of date. This is the gear upgrades she should currently have.
Anklet of Translocation

Necklace of Natural Weapons +1 (Applies to x2 Claw Attacks) upgrade to Greater Amulet of Resistance
Ring of Animalistic Power (+1 Str, +1 Dex, +1 Con)
Ring of Protection from Good (+1 Wisdom, +1 Intelligence)

SKILL TRICKS:
Collector of Stories:
When you attempt a trained Knowledge check to identify a creature or to learn its special powers or vulnerabilities, you gain a +5 competence bonus on the check.
Second Impression: Once per day, if an observer sees through your disguise with a successful Spot check, you can (as an immediate action) attempt a Bluff check to convince all within 30ft that they're mistaken. Use the observer's Spot check result as the DC for your Bluff check; if you succeed, the observer ignores the evidence of his own senses in favor of what your disguise attempts to show. You must be aware of the observer's discovery in order to use this trick.

Vampiric Touch (Su): An alu-demon gains temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt each time she successfully hits with a claw attack. She cannot gain more than her target's current hit points + the target's Con score (which is enough to kill the target). The temporary hit points disappear in one hour.
Rebuke Undead (+2 Skill bonus to check) (6/day)
Liberation(Su): If you are affected by a charm, compulsion or fear effect and fail your saving throw, you can attempt it again 1 round later at the same DC. You get only this one extra chance to succeed on your saving throw. This granted power is considered a supernatural ability.
Passion(Su): For a total time per day of 1 round per cleric level, as a free action you can act as if under the effect of the rage spell. This granted power is a supernatural ability.
Telepathy 100ft + Mindsight feat
Lore (Ex): Thanks to long hours of study, a cloistered cleric has a wide range of stray knowledge. This ability is identical to the bard's bardic knowledge class feature, using the cloistered cleric's class level in place of the bard level.

Spell-Like Abilities (CL 9th)
3/daycharm person (DC 14), detect thoughts (DC 15), disguise self, suggestion (DC 16);
1/daydimension door

Prepared (Caster Level 1): - can spontaneously convert spells to inflict spells.
Level 0 (3/day): Detect Magic *3,
Level 1 (1+1+D/day): Recharge Innate Magic, Blood Wind, Omen of Peril (D)

Healing Belt (3 charges/day):
1 charge: Heals 2d8 points of damage
2 charges: Heals 3d8 points of damage
3 charges: Heals 4d8 points of damage

Anklets of Translocation (2/day):
Ability: Instantly teleport as per a short dimensional hop (with no chance of error) up to 10 feet. The new space must be within line of sight and line of effect. One cannot use the anklet to move into a space occupied by another creature, nor can one teleport into a solid object; if such an attempt is made, the anklet's activation is wasted. The Wearer can bring along objects weighing up to your maximum load, but you can't bring another creature with you.

GEAR: Healing Belt, Masterwork Mithral Chain Shirt, Razor-Sharp Masterwork Adamantine Dagger, Ring of Animalistic Power (+1 Str, +1 Dex, +1 Con), Ring of Protection from Good (+1 Wisdom, +1 Intelligence), Slayer's Amulet of Greater Resistance (+3 Resistance bonus to saves, +1 Enhancement bonus to Natural claw attacks)

Maybe split up the work?

I could go over the economy related posts if you want, @DragonParadox.

Edit: I'm tempted to suggest setting up a Git repo for this. I'm pretty spooked about parts of the frontpage going kaputt if DP makes a mistake while sleepy again.

I've actually developed a habit of always keeping up old windows of the front page just in case there's a mistake in editing it.

I updated several of the character sheets for DP a couple weeks ago, adding new items, item descriptions, and cleaning up some stuff. I can assist with that again this weekend, if necessary @DragonParadox. Last time I only updated the sheets of the people on the Valyria expedition, so there are several more that need attention.
Couple of weeks ago I finally made a push against my lazyness and wrote a script to fetch the thread. Final idea is to have a place to go through post history (yes, like a Git; may be even Git), discussions between posts and look other stats, but right now it's just several full copies of the thread starting from 2018-10-31, two to five days between them (when I remember to start the crawler).
It's not even parsed yet, just raw HTML on my disk =(
Message me if you need some data, and bzzzt me if you want something to be done about that data at the end.

Hm... having a (semi-)automated process that archives the Informational threadmarks on git would be nice.

Best setup would probably be to have a program that scrapes the posts in question and creates one file for each of them. Then you can trigger that program by a shell script and automatically commit the revisions to git.

[] Speak to Jarlar Sanel, the unsung head of Wine and Steel, to learn more about him
-[] Use your guise as the anonymous investor that has helped them a few months ago.
-[] Inquire about the state of affairs, especially in regards to Aedon's army and the assassination attempt tonight.

Part MMCDLXXXIII: Where Secrets Lie Buried
Where Secrets Lie Buried

Eighth Day of the Seventh Month 293 AC

Jarlar Sanel proves to be far more difficult to pin down than he had been three months past. Though the offices of the Hollow Sword Blade Company are as busy as ever, the man himself is 'indisposed'. At first you think it a common ploy by underlings with an eye to your coin pouch, but neither sweet words nor the jingle of coin are enough to learn his whereabouts. In truth the secrecy is so complete that you begin to wonder if he had not already ran afoul of some plot and now languishes in captivity or even dead in some ditch. It would hardly be the first time in the history of Lys when ambitious clients use the name of a vanished patron for their own gain.

However, Hermetia insists that if the man had been removed from his perch, the wheels would not be ticking along anywhere near so smoothly. "There is a rumor he has a little green booklet filled with all manner of blackmail materials on his associates and allies, and that all those secrets would be made public in the event of his untimely demise," she explains. "Most think it is but a rumor, but Shara saw it and I used magic to check for good measure. It may not be as potent as some rumors make it out to be, but it is certainly real."

"And a useful weapon should Jarlar align himself with us," you finish.

Tenth Day of the Seventh Month 293 AC

After days of fruitless searching, ever more aware of the worth of days slipping by you decide to take more drastic measures. It is easy enough to slip into the banker's study as a wisp of mist sliding under his door, Hermetia at your side to provide local context for whatever you may find. Within you find every drawer and chest is carefully warded with runes of flame and thunder. Not enough to harm you, but certainly troublesome to dispel and replace in good order. To make matters worse, one of the senior clerks is always present in the room with another checking in unannounced as often as thrice an hour. Whatever else the employees of the Hollow Sword Blade Company may be you must admit they are very conscious about the many ways sorcery can slip through their protections. In truth had it not been for Hermetia's aid you might even have tripped a mechanical trap.

"Did that ring some kind of bell?" you ask. Perhaps it would not go amiss to add mechanical traps to your own protections...

"Yes, though personally I would have been more worried about the barbed needles dipped in poison," she replies dryly. "Now let's have a look at what our friend Jarlar deemed worth so much protection..."

You do not as you had half suspected find a small green booklet. At first the cupboard looks to contain nothing beyond the necessities for a quick escape: gold, sturdy clothes in faded colors, even what looks like various alchemist's powders and ointments to craft a disguise. A pity Tyene is too busy trying to get Aedon's army in a fit state to march to see this.

However, that is not all you discover. Tucked on a shelf behind a grey wool cloak is a letter from a solicitor, the ink still fresh and crisp upon it. "On the inheritance of House Bartaris, now made extinct with the passing of its final heir by blood and law Helus Bartaris..." The name sounds faintly familiar but you cannot place it.

"That was one of Shara's creditors, the ones who took apart the Rogare Bank and the rest of the family fortune," Hermetia speaks up, reading over your shoulder. Reading ahead you discover that the inheritance is to be settled on a manse some thirty leagues from the city, and one of the conditions to participating is utmost secrecy, presumably to keep opportunistic daggers from the backs of the various heirs.

"So Jarlar is looking to potentially increase his personal wealth, all the while he is under the protection of this secret meeting just as Aedon was to have been assassinated. How very convenient for him..."

What do you do next?

[] Try to gain access to the testament reading
-[] By stealth (Write in)
-[] By deception (Write in)

[] Plan the Spicers' demise first. Jarlar will come out of his hole in his own time

[] Write in

OOC: We have not had a proper intrigue arc in a long while so hopefully it will be a nice change of peace. If you want to ask questions of Hermetia, Shara, or Azema you can at any time. I just did not want to overwhelm you with exposition.

A competent underling! Finally!

And let's not brute-force this with Commune or Scry please. We could certainly find him easily if we wanted to, after all. But it's not worth the XP expenditure for Commune, IMO.

@DragonParadox
With Wild Arcana we could have used Discern Location.
Discern Location :: d20srd.org

The other information gained from manual search still might have been worth it, but we should have at least tried that.

Edit: Mortal means of hiding from us are increasingly useless.
It's Mindblank, divine intervention or nothing.

Maybe but he seems like the type to have accounted for that and have some means of knowing he is being scryed upon which might have given the game away.

Maybe but he seems like the type to have accounted for that and have some means of knowing he is being scryed upon which might have given the game away.
But this isn't Scrying.
It allows no save or SR and we don't actually look at the target, just immediatly know the name of the target's location.
And our head in turn is protected by Mindblank, so even a counter divination if anyone knows where he is should give no results.
