A Reforged World (NO SV, You are King of Italy, in a Greatly Changed World)

Anyway, what would be the current goals of Italy in terms of Foreign Assembly? Establishing a Sphere of Influence across the Mediterranean?
Have it through our naval fleets already.

The goal, per prime minister selection, is to bring Italy into this new world/century of progress and learning. We have a good start on that with the schools. Developing the Italian countryside and getting all the cities rebuilt from the damage they have taken over the year would be good ways of continuing, as would increasing Italy's wealth

Per the founding of the nation one of the goals was securing trade lanes against pirates and promoting relatively free trade between nations. We are about half way there.
Wouldn't be surprised if there are anyone in the Thread and the Quest who has the ambition for Italy to restore the City of Byzantium under "Roman" (Italian) Rule.
Has been mentioned yet. We worked pretty hard to get to peace with the ottomans. Going back to war three years later is just contradictory. That said, slave trade and piracy are legitimate targets.
That will actually be an action next turn.
Aren't we the dominant naval force in control of the worlds current premier trade routes? Doesn't that count?
Wouldn't the concept that even Commoners from the lows and highs gets the opportunity to have education would attract immigration from across Europe?
Numerous great intellects did that without the prime ministers education plan in original history. Should be bigger now. Maybe it'll give us a discount to rebuilding Rome(Still say we should have picked Florence).

I just realized that if we marry Isabella than we aren't just friends with Charles, we're his brother-in-law.

So... First I am going to do a Small, Italian Centric Rumor mill, to prepare us for the next turn. Mostly to find out if Isabella survives her journey.

Then, we get the turn...

And then... we will see just how fucked up things are going to get. :V

Also: I swear to God our Navy will be able to fight God Himself with the crazy bullshit that is our rolls.

Bold Words..knowing the Magoose Dice.

And then... we will see just how fucked up things are going to get.

The Haseanic League vs Italian Merchants vs Spanish Traders vs Portugese Merchants

Like I and my Prime Minister Rival already mentioned in different words, over the coming years would see a Brain Drain within different nations as the Academic portion of "Tabula Rasa" is basically adopted as a policy reason towards everyone having access to education.

Knowing the King is also a Commoner and Innovator, along the above's Education Focus..would result in innovations that aren't guns having a much faster time being conceived than before..alongside the spirit of the Renaissance.

The Italian Golden Era is occuring, many other powers just don't know it yet.

The Rumor Mill 2
The Rumor Mill 2:

Macheveli:D100 => 90+20=110+D100 + 20 => 44=154
Isabella of Austria:D100 => 89

He smiled and looked at the numerous onlookers that were trying to snatch a peek at the princess in his estate, resting on the road so that she may recover from her long journey. "I am told that you would be better to rest, and recuperate, in a warmer climate, would do better for you." He said as he looked to his own doctors. "And the fact they do not bleed you when your humors are not misaligned."

The Princess nodded. "Thank you, Minister-"

"I am not minister my dear. Only someone who clearly holds the best interests of my country in his old stony heart." He said with a smile. "And that is why you are here, instead of being murdered by your doctors in Germany."

"These men that were assisting me were only doing the best to keep me alive." She said as she coughed into a handkerchief, and one of her ladies-in-waiting assisted her, bundling her with another warm fireplace. "They were the best in the world."

"The best at butchery perhaps." the old man stated as he looked at her. "I have been reading many treaties and teastries from Master Leonardo Da Vinci, a masterful man, you have heard of him, perhaps?"

"I have, a brilliant painter."

"Far more than that. He has been working on discovering the human body, and why it is, as it is. I have been fascinated by the subject myself, since my retirement and my heart attack." He stated with a smile as he walked around. "Including a very real possibility, that bleeding people of blood is a terrible idea. It makes one weaker and less able to fight disease."

He then looked closely at the young woman and cracked a smile. "Perhaps… enough for a sickly girl to die on the way after harsh travel."

"Are you threatening me Macheveli?" She demanded.

"No. I am making a promise to you. The boy you are about to wed… is my son." He whispered. "In all but name and blood, but you knew that, you are no fool, and you don't need to play ignorant anymore." Her demeanor changed to one of recognition. She knew. "I will not have him destroyed by the politics you will soon bring to his house. Nor will I let it destroy Italy."

"You will wed him, and then you will serve him… and perhaps he may serve you." He stated.

"I have no choice but to forgo my father's wishes?" She asked.

"Your father cannot help you anymore," Macheveli stated. "You are not his servant to use and persuade. You are now Luciano's… and mine."

"Do well to remember that. Or our next meeting will be far less polite."

Reward: Machiavelli shows why he is Italy's greatest living statesman…

Isabella survived her trip, though still rather weak, but will recover from her doctor's malpractice in time. Perhaps even well enough to have children.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime Minister Travoli:D100 + 20 => 119+D100 + 20 => 72=191

(due to his Government being a near majority, there will be no rolls of the factions for now)

The First Minister, or Prime Minister among his colleagues has done much to secure not only the popularity among the people and his government, but the Trust of the King.

An administrator par excellence, much of the day-to-day bureaucracy that would bog down lesser kingdoms and lesser states has become highly efficient, and even well maintained. Though the Minister lacks in other areas that he cannot shore up by his lonesome, there are many things that having such a brilliant man in charge can make things easier.

Like after his education reforms… he wishes and hopes to turn towards the army.

Reward: The Government, runs smoothly and efficiently. Unlike the vast majority of Europe.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rome:D100 => 73

While in Rome, a Newspaper, handwritten and traveling fast, with criers and learned men alike reading… Senator Octavian tries to increase readership for his newspaper

Times New Roman…

But that is a fantasy of political activity that many think is just a fad, something to entertain the educated middlemen.

And to ignore the backbreaking labor that is being used to rebuild the City the World Desires.

Reward: The first newspaper of Rome, the Times New Roman, has begun to find a readership, but it is small.

Rome continues to Rebuild and revitalize after centuries of neglect.
------------------------------------

Florence:D100 => 46

The City just… carries on. Not important or forgettable… just there.

No one would claim anymore, or any less.

Venice:D100 => 69

While in Venice, a peculiar sight has slowly taken over the city.

Pornographic statues and graffiti from the local youths… expressing a desire to "Show the natural beauty of the human body."

It is widely considered just a bunch of sex-starved teenagers screwing around, and trying to start an orgy and causing trouble.

But hey, that sounds like fun, until their parents come and take them back home.
-----------------------------------------------

Naples: D100 => 77

Naples continues to see much wealth begin to take shape, after such a long time.

Di Medici has begun to sponsor several local painters to make beautiful monuments to show his wealth, and to put his mind at ease.
---------------------------------

Sicily:D100 => 39

And Sicily, finally free from the threat of pirates… only takes a sigh of relief. And pray to god for good tidings.

For they fear they will be back.
----------------------------------------------------
The Army:D100 => 79

The Army… well continues to be the army. Taking up a large portion of the budget, and slowly developing.

But what can be said, happily might it be added…

The first crop of new NCO's have graduated from their training… and now, they are slowly putting men through the works.

Reward: The Army, slowly changes.
-------------------------------------

The Navy:D100 + 20 => 118+D100 + 20 => 95+D100 + 20 => 57=270

The Navy has a new Flagship, one that is the largest Ship ever made by Italian Hands.

Three decks of over 24 gun ports, and the deck themselves…

In all, 48 guns on either side.

They Call it Rome Invicta. And she is the most powerful ship in the World, according to her creators.

Reward: you have a 48-gun warship… and she is considered the most powerful ship in the world.

Isabella survived her trip

Ahh..Great..

Time for her to convert towards the Commoner-Monarchial traditions of Italia.

In which the Monarchs are free from many pompous traditions that does nothing at all..but instead the ability to learn and not be restricted by Zealots or Tradition.

This is not the Era of Absolutism that the Habsburgs would've desire, but rather an Age of Enlightenment for those who are willing to learn with the people.

Excellent year all around.

Yup. I'm starting to think we should have waited. In retrospect, it's fairly obvious that the people who rush there brides to us soonest are all people with designs on our nation. Nothing for it now, but something to keep in mind if she croaks.

Efficient government, and all it took was a moderati majority and a minister willing to invest in the nation.

Damn teenagers

The Navy continues to solidify it's power.

Welp the New Roman Empire doesn't have to worry about us anymore since we married their emperor daughter though doesn't mean they will live long because France is Winning

Its still far to early to call the curtains on the HRE. It may even see some morale revival, from "bringing Italy back to the fold".

Still, Austria/Habsburgs will be in difficult spot. Which means they will relay on Italian support more by sheer necessity.

Its a good occasion to mend some bridges north of the alps.

will relay on Italian support

The Ottomans nearly wins Vienna..

But a Cannon Ball strikes them as a shadow looms over them..

The Ottoman Soldiers looks at the horizon with a terrified look..

The Italian Navy somehow manages to learn how to make their ships fly.

Speaking of Cannon Vehicles, I wonder if there would be plenty of attempts by Manufacturers and Innovators (even the King) would attempt to try and build the Da Vinci Tank.

(IRL, the Da Vinci Tank was thought to be purposefully sabatoged in its design by Da Vinci himself..as after a few fixes it was found to be working as it should've been.)

Ehh, your forgetting the talk Machiavelli just had with Isabella. Honestly, between Machiavelli giving Isabella the shovel talk and a closer look, I figure all of the brides come with Great rewards but great problems as well. Obviously anyone who came knocking immediately and rushed through to offer Luciano a bride has some political agenda beyond being allies.

I'd be warry about mending bridges to hastily and keep an eye on Hapsburgs taking an interest in Italy. Whoever wins the war between France and Holy Rome, unless it's a pyrrhic victory we aren't better off for it. Best we can hope for is a long, impoverishing stalemate.

While the most ideal situation for us regarding the French-HRE war would be for both sides to weaken themselves enough to not be a threat to us, that may not be something we can accomplish. In that case, between HRE victory and French victory, it would be better for us if HRE were to win, since France provided help to the Ottomans during their Italian campaign, so we know they are out against us and if they get stronger, they might try to either attack us again or persuade the Ottomans to have another go at attacking us.

Well, we are about to have a larger and better educated Italian populace, during an age of learning and innovation, while the efforts of the church to curtail such are weakened by the popes long feud with Luciano. I'd say someone young and brilliant figuring it out is possible.

Honestly though, I'd rather have him invent a cost effective steam engine. He made a simplified version in his original life. With a team of well educated research assistants and supporting smith teams, 16th century steampunk revolution may be possible.

Best we can hope for is a long, impoverishing stalemate.

Read a bit on the IRL Isabella..let's say her dad threw a tantrum at the fact she had less influence than the King of Denmark's mistress. (The Wiki basically painted her as a "proper wife of the times"..meaning we must liberate her away from the Habsburg's Concepts and embrace Italia.)

Now, we know trying to out-influence Machiavelli in Italia is a bad idea if you seek to focus only in the Family (Prestige) and not the betterment of Italy and its people..so it is rational that the Emperor shouldn't try to throw his weight around during a war and against a unified Italy.

However, possibly the thought would've been is to have dear Isabella persuade Luciano to join the Austrians at war against the French with some additional points as can be seen in the war.

While it'd be nice to get Nice and Savoy or borders up to Rhone River..I can see the Habsburgs attempt to call in Favours at "how they were nice enough to bring those territories into Italy"..maybe giving them Venice? A steep discount for Italian Goods? Forcing Luciano to adopt Habsburgian Status Quo?

As I said it once, and twice..now thrice. We must liberate dear Isabella from stuck notions of "What a Queen should be" in the Habsburg sense.

I'd rather have him invent a cost effective steam engine.

Hmm..if we get Da Vinci (if he's still in Italia) to work on peaceful applications of Steam..whether that be in production or pumping out water from coal mines..that would be the spark to it.

Actually since the Hapsburgs are losing, an appropriate sized minor influx of rifles would turn the war into a slow grind. Hapsburg would still be losing, but it would be slow enough and costly enough to the french to drain france's coffers and deny them manpower enough to divert toward italy or conquer more Holy Roman land. The result would be a weakened and humiliated HRE and an over extended and in dept france with depleted armies stuck occupying hostile Germanic lands. It's tricky, but it could be done.

We don't have much of an army worth it's salt. I think it's more likely he wants rifles and ammo for his own armies and to access to the senate to try and bring the Grazini's into prominence. Maybe he also imagines once Machiavelli dies, Isabella could have pushed Luciano to resent his replacement and convince him to install a Hapsburg's figurehead in his place.

I think we brought him onboard back in rebirth? Either way, if Italy becomes the forefront of none conflict focused innovation as a result of an educated populace and a government willing to invest in things other than war, I imagine that would have him knocking on Luciano's door regardless.
