You quickly learned that you just didn't have the voice to sing, too low but not low enough your instructor explained, much to your confusion. In truth, singing didn't hold particular interest for you anyways, so you were quite glad to move on from that. Next, they tested your talent with a variety of instruments over the course of a few days. You played the flute with a woman from Braavos, practiced the lyre with a man from Highgarden, and even spent some time with the court fool Mushroom as you learned the drums. By the end you were quite exhausted and your hands ached.
By the way, @Teen Spirit is this definitive, or that may change in the future once Rhanyra finishes her growth spur?

I am mainly asking because Emma D'arcy has a pretty great contralto voice for both reciting and singing, and it is kind of a shame that Daemon can beat us in this regard...
There's no reason to settle for anything less than the best, is there? Besides, it's a pretty unique trope, I've never seen a harp used by a hero in a quest...ever?
Actually, in most Targaryen Quests that I have seen here it is fairly common to go for the Harp choice, if only because it makes it quite simple to use a Rhaegar's image as the character portrait...

Admittedly I just didn't want to do Singing right now but sure it might be an option later.

For the kind of knightly romance that Alicent desired, few things worked better than a harp.
Say no more!

You wanted to tell her everything. Show her the depths of your passion. See what further boldness would stir within her. Another part of you wanted to be the bold one. To finally ravish your fair lady with dozens of kisses.

But you hesitated. You knew she was not ready for such a thing before, and you couldn't help but fear she still wasn't. Much had changed between the two of you since your relationship started. Alicent had changed in these months. But was it enough to do something so bold?
On the other hand, maybe say a little bit more.

[X] [Alicent] Tell Her of your Desires, How You Nearly Swept Her off Her Feet the Day of the Tourney

Alicent deserves to know how we feel. She knows we won't do anything she's not okay with, but she needs to know what Rhaenyra wants before she can agree to it.

Well huh. The inevitable conversation with Gwayne went... about as well as we could have possibly hoped, and certainly better than I feared?

try words

i literally dunno for the instrument. Stationary and Rhaegar-esque? Mobile and minstrel? More mobile, no calluses, but mouth occupied?

currently biased towards minstrel, and Rhaenyra already has calluses from warrior training. may come back and change tho

I'm still partial to Strong if only because in canon (to the best of my knowledge) the romance between him and Rhaenyra was genuine and here he respects her strength instead of being a little pissbaby like Criston.

With Gwayne it's transactional at best, though to be fair he obviously sees how we feel about Alicent and knows there's not a lot of room for anyone else in that relationship. He also acknowledges our Knighthood and treats us as such, even holding us to the standard in his argument so he get's points for that at least.

I very much agree, my first preference as a husband would be Harwin, with Quooren as a close second...

As I have said many times, if we are willing to renounce to a marriage of love for politics, then there is no best match than Laenor...
I mean we were just told that we can't sing, so having something that prevents us from singing isn't bad
That was Teen Spirit who admittedly just didn't want to do Singing right now, but he has edited the update so that we would be able to try later...

Okay, but even so. When I think of flutes in a medievalesque context, I think of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The flute to me is a whole lot less serious than the lute.

However, Harwyn would be the greatest uncertainty in regards to Alicent. We know Gwayne is okay with it, we can be a hundred percent certain Laenor would be, and we can hope for Qhoren's Dornishness at least, but Harwyn might be a different story.

Honestly, he was pretty happy with a significantly worse deal in canon, so there is that...

Wasn't there info on Alicents preferences behaviour wise when we first got with her that warned against this kind of thing and gave us advice?

Who even are the serious contenders to be her husband at this stage? The Velaryons are not eager to ally up. We need to speak to more houses to decide and definitely should not decide before the tour is resumed.
